  • Java if/else behaving strangely

    - by Alex
I'm a real newbie to java, so please excuse me if this is a hopelessly straightforward problem. I have the following from my java game server: // Get input from the client DataInputStream in = new DataInputStream (server.getInputStream()); PrintStream out = new PrintStream(server.getOutputStream()); disconnect=false; while((line = in.readLine().trim()) != null && !line.equals(".") && !line.equals("") && !disconnect) { System.out.println("Received "+line); if(line.equals("h")){ out.println("h"+EOF); // Client handshake System.out.println("Matched 1"); }else if (line.equals("<policy-file-request/>")) { out.println("..."+EOF); // Policy file System.out.println(server.getInetAddress()+": Policy Request"); disconnect=true; System.out.println("Matched 2"); }else if(line.substring(0,3).equals("GET")||line.substring(0,4).equals("POST")){ out.println("HTTP/1.0 200 OK\nServer: VirtuaRoom v0.9\nContent-Type: text/html\n\n..."); // HTML status page disconnect=true; System.out.println("Matched 3"); } else { System.out.println(server.getInetAddress()+": Unknown command, client disconnected."); disconnect=true; System.out.println("Matched else"); } } server.close(); First of all, the client sends an "h" packet, and expects the same back (handshake). However, I want it to disconnect the client when an unrecognised packet is received. For some reason, it responds fine to the handshake and HTML status request, but the else clause is never executed when there's an unknown packet. Thanks

  • Is it possible to make the iPhone keyboard invisible / remove it without resigning first responder?

    - by Alex Gosselin
I am looking for a way to show my own input view (a UITableView) to enter certain keywords in a UITextView faster than typing them, and also be able to type into this text view the normal way. My solution has a button that causes the keyboard to disappear, revealing the table view underneath it. Problem is I can't figure out how to make the keyboard go away without resigning first responder, and losing the cursor. Has anyone accomplished this before? Thanks for any help.

  • How to handle this "session failed to write file" error in PHP?

    - by alex
I am using the Kohana 3 framework, and am using the native session driver. For some reason, occasionally the sessions fail to write to their file. Warning: session_start() [function.session-start]: open(/tmp/sess_*****, O_RDWR) failed: Permission denied (13) in /home/site/public_html/system/classes/kohana/session/native.php on line 27 I am pretty sure Kohana has its own in built error handler, but it is not triggered with this error (i.e. it shows up like a normal PHP error, not the Kohana error). Anyone that has ever used Kohana will notice this seems to have bypassed Kohana's error handling (perhaps set with set_error_handler()). Is there anyway to stop this error from appearing without switching from the native session (i.e. file based) driver? Should I just give good practice the boot and append an @ error suppressor to session_start() in the core code of Kohana? Should I relax the error_reporting()? Thanks

  • Question about inserting/updating rows with SQL Server (ASP.NET MVC)

    - by Alex
I have a very big table with a lot of rows, every row has stats for every user for certain days. And obviously I don't have any stats for future. So to update the stats I use UPDATE Stats SET Visits=@val WHERE ... a lot of conditions ... AND Date=@Today But what if the row doesn't exist? I'd have to use INSERT INTO Stats (...) VALUES (Visits=@val, ..., Date=@Today) How can I check if the row exists or not? Is there any way different from doing the COUNT(*)? If I fill the table with empty cells, it'd take hundreds of thousands of rows taking megabytes and storing no data.

  • Rails nil can't be coerced into Float

    - by alex
After adding items, attempting to view my cart leads me to this error: nil can't be coerced into Float with the math line in this method in my line_item model highlighted: def total_price product.price * quantity end line items create action def create product = Product.find(params[:product_id]) @line_item = @cart.add_product(product.id) @line_item.quantity = params[:quantity] view <div id= "text_field"><%= text_field_tag 'quantity' %> </div> <%= button_to 'Add to Cart', line_items_path(:product_id => product) %> This has held me back for a couple days. (I'm new). Thanks.

  • Would this Jquery selector work?

    - by Alex
    Hi all, would the following Jquery selector get all of the 4th td elements of all the tables on the current page, and return their text as an array?: var isbn = $.makeArray($("table tr td:nth-child(4)").text());

  • Creating a new variable in C from only part of an existing u_char

    - by Alex Kloss
I'm writing some C code to parse IEEE 802.11 frames, but I'm stuck trying to create a new variable whose length depends on the size of the frame itself. Here's the code I currently have: int frame_body_len = pkt_hdr->len - radio_hdr->len - wifi_hdr_len - 4; u_char *frame_body = (u_char *) (packet + radio_hdr->len + wifi_hdr_len); Basically, the frame consists of a header, a body, and a checksum at the end. I can calculate the length of the frame body by taking the length of the packet and subtracting the length of the two headers that appear before it (radio_hdr->len and wifi_hdr_len respectively), plus 4 bytes at the end for the checksum. However, how can I create the frame_body variable without the trailing checksum? Right now, I'm initializing it with the contents of the packet starting at the position after the two headers, but is there some way to start at that position and end 4 bytes before the end of packet? packet is a pointer to a u_char, if it helps. I'm a new C programmer, so any and all advice about my code you can give me would be much appreciated. Thanks!

  • How to customize preferences screen theme to look like that ?

    - by Alex
Ok, I have a Preferences activity set with an XML layout. Here I have a couple of Preferences that open some dialogs. On these preferences I want to have an arrow on the right of them like in the screenshot. How I do this, is something related to the theme ? First screenshot is how I want to look, second is what I have now. http://img545.imageshack.us/i/screenshot1zlk.png/ http://img405.imageshack.us/i/tsc3.png/

  • A non-ugly way to persist dialog contents across orientation changes?

    - by alex
So I have a managed AlertDialog with a number of EditTexts & separate portrait + landscape layouts. The user opens the dialog in portrait mode, enters some text and then all of a sudden decides to pop out the keyboard. Now, I need to remove the dialog and recreate it for the changed layout persisting the text entered. What I can think of is getting references to the EdiTexts in onPrepareDialog(..), then getting the actual text in onConfigurationChanged(..), then removing the dialog, then showing it again, then populating it. Rather ugly, huh? Are there any better options?

  • Capture Stored Procedure print output in .NET (Different model!)

    - by Workshop Alex
Basically, this question with a difference... Is it possible to capture print output from a TSQL stored procedure in .NET, using the Entity Framework? The solution in the other question doesn't work for me. It works with the connection type from System.Data.SqlClient but I'm using the one from System.Data.EntityClient which does not have an InfoMessage event. (Of course, I could just create an SQL connection based on the Entity connection settings, but prefer to do it directly.)

  • Making swedish characthers show properly in Windows Command Prompt using Python in Notepad++

    - by Alex
The title explains it well. I have set up Notepad++ to open the python script in the command prompt when I press F8 but all Swedish characters looks messed up when opening in CMD but perfectly fine in e.g IDLE. This simple example code: #!/usr/bin/env python #-*- coding: UTF-8 -*- print "åäö" Looks like this. As you can see the output of the bath file I use to open Python in cmd below shows the characthers correctly but not the python script above it. How do i fic this?

  • How do I overwrite the functionality of the home button?

    - by Alex
Essentially, I just want to change the home button from just hiding my app to killing the activity that is on the screen. I thought about writing a broadcast receiver that kills the activity, but I'm not sure how to kill the activity from the receiver. How do I change the functionality of the home button to "finish" the specific activity? Thanks
