I want to do something very very similar for a site I'm building. ShareThis offers a widget that does the same thing but it's branded and external. I'm looking for a pure Ruby solution. A gem containing a module that could be included in a Rails ApplicationHelper class would be perfect. Suggestions appreciated before I go reinventing the wheel!

  Hi all, I would like to implement a application which backs up all the internal datas like sms, mms, videos, audios, documents, call history stored in iPhone. But this seems to be not possible with api docs that the apple has released so far ... I have gone through the pdf of ENterprise distribution program and some of the links related to Enterprise Distribution Program, specifies about the Remote wipe and accessing of internal datas like Calendar, sms, mms ect .... But they didnt mention how to do it programmatically. Does Apple provide any special priviledges like extra api support to access the internal data in their Enterprise Distribution Program?. Is there any difference between Enterprise Distribution Program and Standard Distribution Program in the development point of view? And since in-house distribution does not require Apple approval, shall we use some other method which are not officially mentioned in apple docs, to access the internal stored data ..   Hi All, i am new to the web development environment, having came from a unix/c environment. i've been recently asked to create a web app, which i thought would require postgresql, java/j2ee, and javascript for the client interface. as i had wanted a nicer gui, i've been reading up on extjs, which looks really nice to me. a colleague mentioned that the time needed time needed to learn all these various pieces is time consuming, and Jdeveloper seems to provide most of what we'd need (i was shown a demo, which appears to be able to generate some nice web interfaces). what are the pros and cons with the different approaches ? some i can think of: - jdeveloper is an integrated ide, which creates UI easily, tightly integrated with database. (pro) - jdeveloper will be heavier? (con) - wizard generated code may be harder to refactor ?   I am using jquery UI tabs and I need to majorly change the styling on it. I need to rempve the background image, the borders, almost everything. I need it to look minimal, and not like it's self contained. What's the best way to do this? I need to use the default UI styling for the calendar widget however, which is on the same page. I've done a lot of research and everyone seems to point to the theme-roller. However, i do not just want to change the colors and border radii. I need to delete crap. theme-roller seems to be just change things like colors (not really useful for the real world) Is it even worth using jquery UI for my tabs?

• django app using amazon aws s3 storage in stead of DB?

  new to python here so bear with me ... i'm looking at django for a rapid prototype to a photo sharing app with an amazon aws s3 storage back end. however, as far as i can tell, django is tailored toward the typical database MVC type of pattern. is there a way to for example provide a custom django model implementation that talks to s3 in stead of a DB? a custom DB engine? would either of these be practical, or am i looking in the wrong direction? thanks.

• Any hosted versions of jQuery that have the 'Access-Control-Allow-Origin: *' header set?

  I have been working with jQuery recently and ran into a problem where I couldn't include it in a userscript because xmlhttpRequest uses the same origin policy. After further testing I found that most browsers also support the Cross-Origin Resource Sharing access control defined by W3C as a workaround for issues with same origin policy. I tested this by hosting the jQuery script on a local web server that included the Access-Control-Allow-Origin: * http header, which allowed the script to be downloaded using xmlhttpRequest so that it could be included in my userscript. I'd like to use a hosted version of jQuery when releasing the script, but so far testing with tools like http://www.seoconsultants.com/tools/headers I have not found any sites that allow cross-origin access to the jQuery script.   I know similar questions have been asked before. I'm using the Sync Demo app I found online here, which uses Picture Sharing as a guide. I've integrated it into my desktop and iphone apps and have the connection working, but am clueless as to how to actually sync my objects. Is it as simple as if ([iphone Object] != [desktop object]) { //merge the two } I have the exact same object model used, I just basically want to know how to check if there are differences, and copy the ones that are different over.   I have somewhat of a strange question that is not really technical, but I do hope to collect meaningful advice. I'm building a large web application, basically a photo sharing community site. As part of this site, logged-in users can go to their profile, from which they can see their own things (images, comments, votes) as well as edit their details and preferences. Users can also see profiles of others users (their images, comments, votes), but of course not edit their details. The question I have is simple but it keeps bothering me: What to call the personal links and content of a user? Should they be named "Your": Your images Your profile ... ...or "My": My images My profile ...or perhaps named, even if you're logged in: Fledder's images Fledder's profile As unimportant as it may sounds, I'm really looking for advice in this area. I'm particularly interested in any standards, why an option is preferred, and in which contexts it is preferred.

  Almost every article I read told me that you can't have chdir in Java. The accepted answer to this question says you can't do it in Java. But in the lifetime of .NET I have to admit I've never actually had a situation where CAS has actually blocked something to my benefit. I have, however, had many times where something as simple as sharing a quick .NET application across a mapped drive becomes an enterprise code access nightmare. Having to break out caspol.exe to create trusted path rules and having no clear way of knowing why something failed makes it seem like CAS adds way more frustration to the development and deployment process than it offers in security. I'd like to hear either some situations where CAS has actually helped more than hurt, or if there are other people out there frustrated with its current implementation and defaults.

  The type or namespace name 'Resources' does not exist in the namespace 'MyWebProject.Web' (are you missing an assembly reference?) C:\Users\...\MySecondProject\Generated_Code\MyWebProject.Web.g.cs I am having some problems trying to add a second SL client project to my (Ria services) SL Business Application. It has to do with the way the shared Resources files on the Web project are linked to from my new SL client project (the SL client project that was generated by the Business App template works fine). The same problem was brought up in the SL forums but copying the Web folder from my existing SL client doesn't seem to work. How can I add a second SL client project using RIA services to the solution of an existing SL Business Application without these problems over shared resources? Should I avoid the Business Application solution template for solutions with multiple SL clients since it seems to presume only a single client app will be sharing the resource files?

  Hi, I have been looking into communication methods between two iPhone devices and as I understand it there are two main methods to do this: Bluetooth and WiFi. However I wanted to know if anyone knows of any other way of sharing information between two iPhones? If I were in an area with no WiFi or mobile signal, and couldn't use Bluetooth for whatever reason, is there anything that could be done to broadcast data from one iPhone to another? I'm sure its a bit of a silly question, but if you don't ask, you don't get; and if someone knows of anything I might be able to look into with regards to this, I would be very appreciative. • Share application in local network

  I would like to eventually create a managerial program that shares and updates information for multiple computers that are on the same network. I am fairly familiar with Python, C++ and a bit of Java, is there a library I could use with any of these languages to design such a program? I could probably create the local interface from where I am right now, but when it comes to packing and sharing data I could not be more clueless; any advice would be platinum. The program will need to differentiate between administrative and user access if that makes a difference.

• Get seconds since epoch in any POSIX compliant shell

  I'd like to know if there's a way to get the number of seconds since the UNIX epoch in any POSIX compliant shell, without resorting to non-POSIX languages like perl, or using non-POSIX extensions like GNU awk's strftime function. Here are some solutions I've already ruled out... date +%s // Doesn't work on Solaris I've seen some shell scripts suggested before, which parse the output of date then derive seconds from the formatted gregorian calendar date, but they don't seem to take details like leap seconds into account. GNU awk has the strftime function, but this isn't available in standard awk. I could write a small C program which calls the time function, but the binary would be specific to a particular architecture. Is there a cross platform way to do this using only POSIX compliant tools? I'm tempted to give up and accept a dependency on perl, which is at least widely deployed. perl -e 'print time' // Cheating (non-POSIX), but should work on most platforms

  Suppose I have the following Domain object mapping to a legacy table, utilizing read-only second-level cache, and having a transient field: class DomainObject { static def transients = ['userId'] Long id Long userId static mapping = { cache usage: 'read-only' table 'SOME_TABLE' } } I have a problem, references to DomainObject instances seem to be shared due to the caching, and thus transient fields are writing over each other. For example, def r1 = DomainObject.get(1) r1.userId = 22 def r2 = DomainObject.get(1) r2.userId = 34 assert r1.userId == 34 That is, r1 and r2 are references to the same instance. This is undesirable, I would like to cache the table data without sharing references. Any ideas?

  I'm currently getting started with Backbone.js. I've wrote some examples with Backbone and they are working fine. But now I need to use Backbone.js with Rails 3.1 and CoffeeScript. I took my well-working examples and rewrote on CoffeeScript using backbone-rails gem. And got the following problem. My ideal solution would be one where I could forward or copy a thread of emails into one spot, and go back after the fact to organize/categorize/add to it. Any ideas?

  Joda-Time library includes different datetime classes DateTime - Immutable replacement for JDK Calendar DateMidnight - Immutable class representing a date where the time is forced to midnight LocalDateTime - Immutable class representing a local date and time (no time zone) I'm wondering how are you using these classes in your Layered Applications. I see advantages in having almost all the Interfaces using LocalDateTime (at the Service Layer at least) so that my Application doesn't have to manage Timezones and can safely assume Times always in UTC. My app could then use DateTime to manage Timezones at the very beginning of the Execution's Flow. I'm also wondering in which scenario can DateMidnight be useful.

  I need help on looking for a best solution of a web based open source FTP client that has a progress bar, e-mail notifications and easy file sharing with others. I am looking to set up one for our print department, and you send it is really getting expensive. I've look into net2ftp.com but styling it, is a bit pain in the bumbum....Also, Uploadify is also an option but with my lack of PHP knowledge I can't make it to actually do what I want it to do. Let me know if you have buymp into and interesting tool like it.
