  • Using embedded standard HTML forms with ASP.NET

    I have a standard aspx page with which I need to add another standard HTML form into and have it submit to another location (external site), however whenever I press the submit button the page seems to do a post back rather than using the sub-forms action url. A mock up of what the form relationships is below.   • 100% height with fixed footer and embedded Google Map

    I have a problem with a layout - it's not online anywhere, just local, but if you copy and paste the code below into an html page and run it locally you will see the same page I do. It's very nearly there. What I'm trying to achieve is a page with no scrollbars using up all available vertical space. Yes, I can set "overflow:hidden" on the container declaration and that helps, but it's not quite right. I want to actually have the google map surrounded with a 1em border. I have this on 3 sides but the 100% height declaration on the content div crashes the bottom border. If you don't realise the implications of a percentage-sized google map div, then the parent HAS to have a height declared for it to work. As the footer is absolute and outside of the flow, there is no "bottom" border to work to and the layout just doesn't work. The content div 100% height basically seems to take its size from the viewport and not the containing div. It's driving me mad... just can't seem to work out how to do this and I'd really appreciate some input.   • Increase application performance

    I'm writing a program for a company that will generate a daily report for them. All of the data that they use for this report is stored in a local SQLite database. For this report, the utilize pretty much every bit of the information in the database. So currently, when I query the datbase, I retrieve everything, and store the information in lists. Obviously, the more information that is in this database, the longer the initial query will take. I'm curious if there is a way to increase the performance of the query at all?   • Error details in embedded IronPython

    Hi, I'm executing IronPython in my application. A script produces an UnboundNameException with the message "name 'source' is not defined". Because the script is correct in my opinion I would need more error information, but I'm not able to get them from the exception. The exception itself seems not to contain any information about line number of the source of the exception or something like this. I searched on Google, but all available information seems to be outdated. The Data dictionary of my exception is empty which means that Data["PythonExceptionInfo"] does not exist. The file version of my IronPython assembly is 2.0.20209.0 Any hint how to get more error details? cheers, Achim

  • Problem connecting to postgres with Kohana 3 database module on OS X Snow Leopard

  • What is an Ontology (Database?) ?

    I was just reading this article and it mentions that some organization had an Ontology as(?) their database(?) layer, and that the decision to do this was bad. Problem is I hadn't heard about this before, so I can't understand why it's bad. So I tried googling about databases and ontology, and came about quite a few pdfs from 2006 that we're full of incomprehensible content (for my mind). I read a few of these and at this point still have absolutely no idea what they are talking about. My current impression is that it was some crazy fad of 2006 that some academics were trying to sell us, but failed miserably due to the wording of their ideas. But I'm still curious if anyone actually knows what this is actually all about.

I have a service that returns a streamed response through the following method. public virtual Message GetData() { string sqlString = BuildSqlString(); SqlConnection conn = Utils.GetConnection(); SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand(sqlString, conn); XmlReader xr = cmd.ExecuteXmlReader(); Message msg = Message.CreateMessage( OperationContext.Current.IncomingMessageVersion, GetResponseAction(), xr); return msg; } I cannot close the connection within the method or the streaming of the response message will be terminated. Since control returns to the WCF system after the completion of that method, I don't know how I can close that connection afterwards. However, if I place the test function into my Default.js external file it will function perfectly. I can't seem to figure out why this is happening. Any ideas?

  • No SQLCompact Edition Support IN VS 2013

    Firstly apologies if this is a poor question - I am an engineer not a programmer. I have spent time moving from Visual Basic to C#. I have started C#/SQL tutorials. I have noticed VS 2013 has stopped supporting the compact edition database normally used for standalone desktop apps. Somebody has kindly written a plugin to re-implement support. I have also noticed a belief circulating that SQLite is to replace the compact edition. Would anybody be able to advise if this was accurate - I am slightly confused as to which database is best suited for desktop app development inside VS 2013. Any comment greatly appreciated.   • Silverlight MEF Embedded Resources

    I have two different Silverlight UserControls imported with MEF from two different xaps. The UserControls are simply an Image on a Canvas. Both UserControls have the image marked as 'Resource'. The images are different but their names are the same (key point). I'm not quite sure what's going on behind the scenes of the MEF import but both images seem to end up in the same AppDomain. After the composition when I stick the UserControls on a Canvas, each is an instance of the class it should be, but they both show the same image. Obviously if the image file names are unique across all xaps I import I have no problem but I don't like that solution. Is there a better one?

  • Pull dynamic string out of embedded RESX

    I have a RESX resource file that I can retrieve the values out of using the strongly typed properties and assign to values in my Silverlight 3 app. However at runtime I need to generate the lookup key based on some values to avoid a ton of if/switch statements. I'm trying to use the ResourceManager, but it doesn't like .resx files. Searched far and wide... is this just not possible in SL3? Does anyone have another suggestion?

    I'm making a program that will post data to a database, and I've run into a pattern that I'm sure is familiar: A short table of most-likely (very strongly likely) fixed values that serve as an enum. So suppose the following table called Status: Status Id Description -------------- 0 Unprocessed 1 Pending 2 Processed 3 Error In my program I need to determine a status Id for another table, or possibly update a record with a new status Id. I could hardcode the status Id's in an enum and hope no one ever changes the database. Or I could pre-fetch the values based on the description (thus hardcoding that instead). What would be the correct approach to keep these two, enum and table, synced?
