• Problem using yaml-cpp on OS X

  So I'm having trouble compiling my application which is using yaml-cpp I'm including "yaml.h" in my source files (just like the examples in the yaml-cpp wiki) but when I try compiling the application I get the following error: g++ -c -o entityresourcemanager.o entityresourcemanager.cpp entityresourcemanager.cpp:2:18: error: yaml.h: No such file or directory make: *** [entityresourcemanager.o] Error 1 my makefile looks like this: CC = g++ CFLAGS = -Wall APPNAME = game UNAME = uname OBJECTS := $(patsubst %.cpp,%.o,$(wildcard *.cpp)) mac: $(OBJECTS) $(CC) `pkg-config --cflags --libs sdl` `pkg-config --cflags --libs yaml-cpp` $(CFLAGS) -o $(APPNAME) $(OBJECTS) pkg-config --cflags --libs yaml-cpp returns: -I/usr/local/include/yaml-cpp -L/usr/local/lib -lyaml-cpp and yaml.h is indeed located in /usr/local/include/yaml-cpp Any idea what I could do?   How can I use a TEnumerator to go through my TDictionary in sorted order by key? I've got something like this: var Dic: TDictionary<string, string>; begin Dic := TDictionary<string, string>.create; Dic.Add('Tired', 'I have been working on this too long'); Dic.Add('Early', 'It is too early in the morning to be working on this'); Dic.Add('HelpMe', 'I need some help'); Dic.Add('Dumb', 'Yes I know this example is dumb'); { The following is what I don't know how to do } for each string1 (ordered by string1) in Dic do some processing with the current Dic element Dic.Free; end; So I would like to process my dictionary in the order: Dumb, Early, HelpMe, Tired. Unfortunately the Delphi help is very minimal in describing how TEnumerator works and gives no examples that I can find. There is also very little written on the web about using Enumerators with Generics in Delphi.

  In scala.util.matching.Regex trait MatchData I see that there support for groupnames (Named Capturing Groups) But since Java does not support groupnames until version 7 as I understand it, Scala version 2.8.0.RC4 (Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM, Java 1.6. gives me this exception: scala> val pattern = """(?<login>\w+) (?<id>\d+)""".r java.util.regex.PatternSyntaxException: Look-behind group does not have an obvio us maximum length near index 11 (?<login>\w+) (?<id>\d+) ^ at java.util.regex.Pattern.error(Pattern.java:1713) at java.util.regex.Pattern.group0(Pattern.java:2488) at java.util.regex.Pattern.sequence(Pattern.java:1806) at java.util.regex.Pattern.expr(Pattern.java:1752) at java.util.regex.Pattern.compile(Pattern.java:1460) So the question is Named Capturing Groups supported in Scala? • Helper Casting Functions -- Is it a code smell?

  I recently began to start using functions to make casting easier on my fingers for one instance I had something like this ((Dictionary<string,string>)value).Add(foo); and converted it to a tiny little helper function so I can do this ToDictionary(value).Add(foo); Is this a code smell? Also, what about simpler examples? For example in my scripting engine I've considered making things like this ((StringVariable)arg).Value="foo"; be ToStringVar(arg).Value="foo"; I really just dislike how inorder to cast a value and instantly get a property from it you must enclose it in double parentheses. I have a feeling the last one is much worse than the first one though (also I've marked this language agnostic even though my example is C#)

• Spring: PropertyPlaceHolderConfigurer to set values for non-string/integer properties

  Hi, All the examples I have seen where the PropertyPlaceHolderConfigurer is used seem to be setting simple values like Strings and ints. How do you use the PPC to set the values of classes. E.g. If i had a class signature Source(String name, DistributionSample batch, DistributionSample delay) How would I go about setting the batch and delay properties. There is also a small catch. DistributionSample is an abstract class. On the bright side, The class that is using the propertyPlaceHolder knows the beanName of the "Solid" class that needs to be instantiated. Any help would be much appreciated.

• Paypal adaptive payment API call with C# .NET? Preferably with WebServices

  Okay I might be entirely off track now but here goes: Our "webshop" offers two functions, buying a specific product and selling it back to us. Back-end handles if the user can sell or not. I've decided to use Paypal's adaptive payments for this one as it seems the way to go doing these kinds of transactions. I've never implemented any kind of shop so I'm totally green with this one. I only recently learned ASP.NET and have mainly developed games before moving to this kind of development. HTTP is still some level of magic to me hehe.. I might be confused but I think paypal offers a webservice with their adaptive payment API. My humble request: A nice soul who wants to share an example of implementing an adaptive payment API call with C# .NET. If they don't offer it as a webservice I'll probably find it as a custom .dll or something. Any tips and examples are highly appreciated! Thanks for reading

• ASP.net Pop up Alert without page load

  Hi, In ASP.NET -- I want to popup an alert window in the case of an event. I don't have a button, i do not load the page at that event. When I searched i got a lot of java script examples but I can't use them as they work either on a button click or on page load. I just want a pop window to come as soon as I capture a particular event. I keep checking for the events every 5 second, as soon as i capture one event, there is a switch case for the actions to follow according to the event captured. For one particular case, i need one pop up "Sorry" along with an OK button. Can someone tell me what to do. Thanks

  I have been trying to create a complex form with many nested models, and make it dynamic. Now I found that making a nested model isn't difficult with accepts_nested_attributes_for, but making it nested and dynamic was seemingly impossible if there were multiple nested models. Could anyone shed some light on lines 13 and 16? 13 form_builder.object.class.reflect_on_association(method).klass.new and 16 form_builder.fields_for(method, options[:object], :child_index => "new_#{method}") do |f| From intuition, line 13 instantiates a new object, but why must it do so many method calls? I couldn't find any documentation for the :child_index option on line 16. When the form is created, a very large number is used as an index for new models, whereas existing models are indexed by their id. How does this work?

• Why a very good PHP framework - Qcodo (or Qcubed - its branch) - is so unpopular?

  I am wondering why this framework (QCodo) is almost forgotten and totally unpopular. I've started using it a few years ago and it is the only thing that keeps me with PHP. Yeah ... its development is stuck (that's why there is now more active branch Qcubed) but it is still very good piece of software. Its main advantages: Event driven (something like asp.net) no spaghetti code Powerful code generation good ORM follows DRY very simple AJAX support is fun to write Since then I wanted to be trendy and checked Django but I cannot write normal request-based web application (it just doesn't feel right). Don't believe? chess.com is written with it and surely there are plenty others. My 2 questions are: Have you heard of it (PHP people)? If you are using it what is your opinion about it (show us examples of your work) Thanks

  let w t f = have I missed something? do all value names in F# have to be a single char? preferably x? and do all method names have to abbreviated to a cryptic four chars?? we've had it rammed down our throats for years about descriptive variable/method names in other languages but now this doesnt apply to F#? or it is some coding 'style' bollox? Learning from code examples is hard enough with type inference. why make it harder?

• Objective-C @class / import best practice

  I've noticed that a lot of Objective-C examples will forward declare classes with @class, then actually import the class in the .m file with an import. I understand that this is considered a best practice, as explained in answers to question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/322597/objective-c-class-vs-import Coming from C++ this feels backwards. I would normally include all needed .h files in the new classes header file. This seems useful since it would make the compiler generate a warning when two classes include each other, at which point I can decide whether this is a bad thing or not then use the same Objective-C style and forward declare the class in the header and include it in the .cpp file. What is the benefit of forward declaring @class and importing in the implementation file? Should it be a best practice in C++ to forward declare classes rather than including the header file? Or is it wrong to think of Objective-C and C++ in these similar terms to begin with?

  I've already written some small Android Applications, most of them in one Activity and nearly no data that should be persistent on the device. Now I'm writing an application that needs more Activities and I'm a bit puzzled about how to organize all this. My app will download some data parse it show it to the user and then show other activities depending on the data and the user interaction. Some of that data could be cached, some of it has to be downloaded every time. Some of that data should not be downloaded freshly at the moment the orientation changes, but it should on the moment the activity is created... Another thing I'm confused about are things like a httpClient. I now for example create a new httpclient for every activity, the same thing for locationlisteners. Are there books, a blogs or documentations with patterns, examples and advice on organizing larger apps build on android? Everything I found until now are get startet tutorials leaving me alone after 60 lines of code...

  Hi there, I've got a question about a Silverlight WCF Databinding pattern: There are many examples about how to bind data using {Binding} expressions in XAML, how to make async calls to a WCF service, set the DataContext property of a element in the UI, how to use ObservableCollections and INotifyPropertyChanged, INotifyCollectionChanged and so on. Background: I'm using the MVVM pattern, and have a Silverlight ItemsControl, whose ItemsSource is set to an ObservableCollection property on my ViewModel object. My view is of course the XAML which has the {Binding}. Say the model object is called 'Metric'. My ViewModel periodically makes calls to a WCF service that returns ObservableCollection. MetricInfo is the data transfer object (DTO). My question is two-fold: Is there any way to avoid copying each property of MetricInfo to the model class - Metric? When the WCF calls completes, is there any way to make sure I sync the items which are in both my local ObservableCollection and the result of the WCF call - without having to first clear out all the items in the local collection and then add all the ones from the WCF call result? thanks, Krishna

• Xcode: gcc-4.2 failed with exit code 1

  Hi! I'm working on a game for the iPhone where I use the Oolong engine for rendering, and now I just tried to update my project to the newest version. However - now I get the following error when I try to compile: gcc-4.2 failed with exit code 1 in the build results I see in which cpp file the error happens, but I don't see any additional information. how can I get more info about what is going wrong in order to track down the problem? edit: after inspecting the compile output, i got the following lines, where the error occurs: {standard input}:61:selected processor does not support 'fmrx r0, fpscr' {standard input}:62:unshifted register required -- 'bic r0,r0,#0x00370000' ...somemorelines {standard input}:69:selected processor does not support 'fmxr fpscr,r0' this is some VFO code from one of the #include files. it works fine in the examples that come with the egnine. could there be something screwed up with my project settings? I compared them to the one of the example and they seem to be identical

  Hello everyone, I'm looking for a way to determine if the user switches virtual desktops under X11. I'm using Python with X11 libraries and PyGTK. I found some working examples in C, but I lack the expertise to translate them into Python, and I read the source code of several X11 pager applications (fbpanel, pypanel), but I can't seem to find what I'm looking for. Do I have to register for a signal? Using X11 or GTK? Do I have to busy-wait? I'm completely new to both X11 and GTK, so any hints/help would be greatly appreciated.   I will try to keep this as objective as possible. I've been dealing with PHP since 3 years know, I have always known of Perl but never really "dived" into it. So I took a look at some Perl code examples and I thought: Wow, It's like PHP just failed at cloning it. My questions are: What is bad about Perl? What are the disadvantages that made it so extremely unpopular so that it is actually dying right know? Why could PHP take over? What does PHP have (or what did it have in the times of PHP4) that made it rise in popularity compared to Perl? I'm rather young and the questions above are a bit subjective and I think you can only really answer them when you have experienced the rise of PHP along with the fall of Perl. Unless my question before I hope that this one here can be more or less completely answered. There have to be definite disadvantages Perl has compared to PHP that made it fall.

To split it like the following: Name der Straße 25a 88489 Teststadt to Name der Straße|25a|88489|Teststadt or Teststr. 3 88489 Beispielort (Großer Kreis) to Teststr.|3|88489|Beispielort (Großer Kreis) It would be perfect if the system / regex would still work if parts like the zip code or the city are missing. • Asp.Net MVC - Plugins Directory, Community etc?

  Good evening everyone, I am currently starting to dive into asp.net mvc and I really like what I see so far.. BUT I am somewhat confused about 'drop-in' functionality (similiar to what rails and it's plugins and nowadays gems are), an active community to contact etc. For rails there's github with one massiv index of plugins/gems/code-examples regarding mostly rails (despite their goal being generic source-code hosting..), for blogs, mailing lists etc it's also pretty easy to find the places the other developers flock around, but... for asp.net mvc I am somewhat lost where to go/look. It all seems scattered across codeplex and private sites, google code hosting etc etc.. but is there one (or few places) where to turn to regarding asp.net mvc development, sample code etc?   Hi, I have a program that is compressing a string in an unknown way. I know a few inputs and the output produced, but I am not sure what is being used to compress the string. Here are my examples. (just 38 x a, no spaces or anything else) In: "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa" Out: "026900211AA63000026900"   (just 32 x a) In: "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa" Out: "0209001c1aa7a000020900" (31 x a, then 1 b) In: "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaab" Out: "0209000177c553c000020900" (31 x b, then 1 a) In: "bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbba" Out: "0209001e7754f38000020900" In: "Hey wot u doing 2day u wanna do something" Out: "02990011C7C62E78CE6B8E3ACD83E81B37C5C5A6B9D1E1B06963DB5E71155C1000029900" (same as previous string, but with a space at the end) In: "Hey wot u doing 2day u wanna do something " Out: "02A90012C7718B9E339AE2EB360FA02CDF17177A674786DF4B1EDAF388AAE08000000002A90000" The only definite thing I can see so far is digit 2 and 3 are the amount of characters (hex value), ie first one is 26 = 38 Also the first 6 digits are repeated at the end Any help / advice would be great, thanks!
