  • Problem with core data migration mapping model

    I have an iphone app that uses Core Data to do storage. I have successfully deployed it, and now I'm working on the second version. I've run into a problem with the data model that will require a few very simple data transformations at the time that the persistent store gets upgraded, so I can't just use the default inferred mapping model. My object model is stored in an .xcdatamodeld bundle, with versions 1.0 and 1.1 next to each other. Version 1.1 is set as the active version. Everything works fine when I use the default migration behavior and set NSInferMappingModelAutomaticallyOption to YES. My sqlite storage gets upgraded from the 1.0 version of the model, and everything is good except for, of course, the few transformations I need done. As an additional experimental step, I added a new Mapping Model to the core data model bundle, and have made no changes to what xcode generated. When I run my app (with an older version of the data store), I get the following * Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: 'Object's persistent store is not reachable from this NSManagedObjectContext's coordinator' What am I doing wrong? VBA Arrays are mutable by all means, but it seems that when they are stored into a Dictionary as values of some keys, they are not mutable anymore. Any ideas?   • XML to be validated against multiple xsd schemas

    I'm writing the xsd and the code to validate, so I have great control here. I would like to have an upload facility that adds stuff to my application based on an xml file. One part of the xml file should be validated against different schemas based on one of the values in the other part of it. Here's an example to illustrate: <foo> <name>Harold</name> <bar>Alpha</bar> <baz>Mercury</baz> <!-- ... more general info that applies to all foos ... --> <bar-config> <!-- the content here is specific to the bar named "Alpha" --> </bar-config> <baz-config> <!-- the content here is specific to the baz named "Mercury" --> </baz> </foo> In this case, there is some controlled vocabulary for the content of <bar>, and I can handle that part just fine. Then, based on the bar value, the appropriate xml schema should be used to validate the content of bar-config. Similarly for baz and baz-config. The code doing the parsing/validation is written in Java. Not sure how language-dependent the solution will be. Ideally, the solution would permit the xml author to declare the appropriate schema locations and what-not so that s/he could get the xml validated on the fly in a sufficiently smart editor. Also, the possible values for <bar> and <baz> are orthogonal, so I don't want to do this by extension for every possible bar/baz combo. What I mean is, if there are 24 possible bar values/schemas and 8 possible baz values/schemas, I want to be able to write 1 + 24 + 8 = 33 total schemas, instead of 1 * 24 * 8 = 192 total schemas. Also, I'd prefer to NOT break out the bar-config and baz-config into separate xml files if possible. I realize that might make all the problems much easier, as each xml file would have a single schema, but I'm trying to see if there is a good single-xml-file solution.

    I'm parsing some input which produces a tree structure containing NSDictionary instances on the branches and NSString instance at the nodes. After parsing, the whole structure should be immutable. I feel like I'm jumping through hoops to create the structure and then make sure it's immutable when it's returned from my method. We can probably all relate to the input I'm parsing, since it's a query string from a URL. In a string like this: a=foo&b=bar&a=zip We expect a structure like this: NSDictionary { "a" => NSDictionary { 0 => "foo", 1 => "zip" }, "b" => "bar" } I'm keeping it just two-dimensional in this example for brevity, though in the real-world we sometimes see var[key1][key2]=value&var[key1][key3]=value2 type structures. The code hasn't evolved that far just yet. Put another way, if I convert 'foo' to bytes, I get 112, 111, 111. What would these char codes look like as a utf-8 encoded octet string? Would it be "0x70 0x6f 0x6f"? Thanks

  • Use a subdirectory as root with htaccess in Apache 1.3

    I'm trying to deploy a site generated with Jekyll and would like to keep the site in its own subfolder on my server to keep everything more organized. Essentially, I'd like to use the contents of /jekyll as the root unless a file similarly named exists in the actual web root. So something like /jekyll/sample-page/ would show as http://www.example.com/sample-page/, while something like /other-folder/ would display as http://www.example.com/other-folder. My test server runs Apache 2.2 and the following .htaccess (adapted from http://gist.github.com/97822) works flawlessly: RewriteEngine On # Map http://www.example.com to /jekyll. RewriteRule ^$ /jekyll/ [L] # Map http://www.example.com/x to /jekyll/x unless there is a x in the web root. RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/jekyll/ RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /jekyll/$1 # Add trailing slash to directories without them so DirectoryIndex works. # This does not expose the internal URL. How can I use the /jekyll/ directory as the site root without revealing the actual URL structure? Edit: After a ton of research into Apache 1.3, I've found that this problem is essentially a combination of two different issues listed at the Apache 1.3 URL Rewriting Guide. I have a (partially) moved DocumentRoot, which in theory would be taken care of with something like this: RewriteRule ^/$ /e/www/ [R] I also have the infamous "Trailing Slash Problem," which is solved by setting the RewriteBase (as was suggested in one of the responses below): RewriteBase /~quux/ RewriteRule ^foo$ foo/ [R] The problem is combining the two. Moving the document root doesn't (can't?) use RewriteBase—fixing trailing slashes requires(?) it… Hmm…

    In Django models/forms the choices for a combobox often look like this: food_choices = (("",""), ("1", "Falafel"), ("2", "Hummus"), ("3", "Eggplant Stuff, Babaganoush???"), So the value to be stored in the database will be 1/2/3, but the displayed value on the form will be the long description. When we are working in code outside a form, how can we quickly lookup the long description given the short value stored in the model?
