  • LINQ - joining multiple lists

    I've looked at the 101 Linq Samples here but I can't see anything like this in that list. If I'm just not seeing a relevant example there, please link to it. If I have these 3 classes: class Student { int id; string name } class Course { int id, string name } class Enrolment { int studentId; int courseId; } How would I use LINQ to get a list of courses a student is enrolled on? (assume I have an IList of all three classes)

  • Efficient retrieval of lists over WebServices

    I have a WCF WebService that uses LINQ and EF to connect to an SQL database. I have an ASP.NET MVC front end that collects its data from the webservice. It currently has functions such as List<Customer> GetCustomers(); As the number of customers increases massively the amount of data being passed increases also reducing efficiency. What is the best way to "page data" across WebServices etc. My current idea is to implement a crude paging system such as List<Customer> GetCustomers(int start, int length); This, however, means I would have to replicate such code for all functions returning List types. It is unfortunate that I cannot use LINQ as it would be much nicer. Does anyone have any advice or ideas of patterns to implement that would be "as nice as possible" Thanks

  • Appending item to lists - python

    I have a list lets say a=[[1,2],[3,4],[5,6]]. I want to add to each item in a the char 'a'. when I use a=[x.append('a') for x in a] it return [None,None,None]. But if I use a1=[x.append('a') for x in a] then it do someting odd. a and not a1 is [[1,2,a],[3,4,a],[5,6,a]]. I don't understand why the first return [None, None, None] nor why the second works on a.

    Hi, Quick, hopefully easy question. Google is failing me. I don't want my text exactly centered. I want it maybe 7 characters (blank spaces) over. What do I add to this to do that? <.centerThis is centered<./center Adding blanks in front of the "T" does nothing. (I added the dots in the code above because I can't get <.code blocks/spans to let me put the html code here.) (Nothing fancy - no CSS, DHTML, XHTML - just plain old HTML.) Thanks.

    I'm trying to fill a document with a SVG image using the width="100%" and height="100%" properties, I have height="100%" in html and body tags too, and different colours for body(red) and svg(blue). Result is a full height svg but with a scrollbar in the right, and a thin line of red(body) at the bottom. ¿How can I fill the document with the svg without the scrollbar? Thanks.     I'm considering one selection statement that would target one of many css class names in a single class attribute value based on a string prefix. For example, I want any detail- prefixed class names to get targeted from the following sample links. <a href="eg.html" class="detail-1 pinkify another"> <a href="eg.html" class="something detail-55 minded"> <a href="eg.html" class="swing narrow detail-Z"> <a href="eg.html" class="swing narrow detail-Z detail-88 detail-A"> It's reminiscent of how [class|="detail"] prefix selector works on a scalar attribute value, and also of .hasClass(className), but my question needs both concepts applied simultaneously. Note: The detail- prefix won't necessarily be the first class name of the bunch.

  • Fastest method in merging of the two: dicts vs lists

    I'm doing some indexing and memory is sufficient but CPU isn't. So I have one huge dictionary and then a smaller dictionary I'm merging into the bigger one: big_dict = {"the" : {"1" : 1, "2" : 1, "3" : 1, "4" : 1, "5" : 1}} smaller_dict = {"the" : {"6" : 1, "7" : 1}} #after merging resulting_dict = {"the" : {"1" : 1, "2" : 1, "3" : 1, "4" : 1, "5" : 1, "6" : 1, "7" : 1}} My question is for the values in both dicts, should I use a dict (as displayed above) or list (as displayed below) when my priority is to use as much memory as possible to gain the most out of my CPU? For clarification, using a list would look like: big_dict = {"the" : [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]} smaller_dict = {"the" : [6,7]} #after merging resulting_dict = {"the" : [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7]} Side note: The reason I'm using a dict nested into a dict rather than a set nested in a dict is because JSON won't let me do json.dumps because a set isn't key/value pairs, it's (as far as the JSON library is concerned) {"a", "series", "of", "keys"} Also, after choosing between using dict to a list, how would I go about implementing the most efficient, in terms of CPU, method of merging them? I appreciate the help.

    Simple problem I have so far always solved via PHP: You have a site with header, menu, footer and content field. Header, menu and footer are usually the same for each page. How do you, without PHP or any other server-side language, have the header, menu and footer data exist only in one file? So that for example you don't have ten sites (like home.html, products.html, about.html, ..) all having a copy of the static header and menu in their html files. Now if you want to change the header you have to change ten files. I hope I made my question clear enough, if not please leave a comment :)

Also,I have to modify the representation of a List and alter whatever methods are necessary to make insert_back run in constant time: O(1). This new operation should have the signature: void List::insert_back( const Object& data ); Also, isIncreasing, For example, for a list containing head-() (11) (8) (15) (3), isIncreasing() should return false.     I am printing a menu using UL, the trouble is the order that is generated by my script is ignored because im printing the LI one after the other and they're spanning three across. So the order is 1 , 2 , 3 as opposed to 1 2 3 To counteract this i wanted to split my single UL into three that way the order would be maintained.     I have a huge file (with around 200k inputs). The inputs are in the form: A B C D B E F C A B D D I am reading this file and storing it in a list as follows: text = f.read().split('\n') This splits the file whenever it sees a new line. Hence text is like follows: [[A B C D] [B E F] [C A B D] [D]] I have to now store these values in a dictionary where the key values are the first element from each list. i.e the keys will be A, B, C, D. I am finding it difficult to enter the values as the remaining elements of the list. i.e the dictionary should look like: {A: B C D; B: E F; C: A B D; D: 0} I have done the following: inlinkDict = {} for doc in text: adoc= doc.split(' ') docid = adoc[0] inlinkDict[docid] = inlinkDict.get(docid,0) + {I do not understand what to put in here} Please help as to how should i add the values to my dictionary. It should be 0 if there are no elements in the list except for the one which will be the key value. Like in example for 0.

    Ok, so here is my problem: I have a list containing interfaces - List<Interface> a - and a list of interfaces that extend that interface: List<SubInterface> b. I want to set a = b. I do not wish to use addAll() or anything that will cost more memory as what I am doing is already very cost-intensive. I literally need to be able to say a = b. I have tried List<? extends Interface> a, but then I cannot add Interfaces to the list a, only the SubInterfaces. Any suggestions?
