• Can TFS workspaces be used without being tied to a specific machine?

  So I've got a situation where we have a project with 10 developers. Each developer, when they come in for the day, is randomly issued a machine to use for development that day. The machine names are different, say DEV01 - DEV10. At the time that they are issued to the developers, the machines are identical, and no changes the developers make during the day are persisted on the machines (source code changes are stored in TFS, not locally). These are of course actually virtual machines, but that's not really relevant to the point at hand. The problem is that each morning, the developers run into 3 issues: 1) The machine that they are assigned may not be the same machine they were last assigned to. For example, DevMan A might have used DEV04 yesterday, and received DEV06 today. His workspace definitions are now tied to DEV06; he must create a new workspace, or migrate the old workspace to DEV04. 2) The machine that they are assigned may have been in use yesterday, and some of the mappings may conflict. For example, DevMan A might have DEV04 today, and wish to create a workspace mapping the project folder to "C:\MyProj\Solution". However, DevMan B had DEV04 yesterday, and he used the same project folder. TFS now complains. 3) This may be the first time they are on a given machine. They now need to recreate for this machine all of their source-control mappings for the new machine. All of these issues can be resolved in a straightforward fashion on a case-by-case basis, but it does sap some productivity from the morning. We'd much prefer if the TFS workspace definitions could be 'relaxed', such that they did not include the machine name in the definition somehow. Barring that, if anyone is aware of a solution to the above problems that can run automatically, or with limited user intervention, that would also be ideal.

• JQuery Load() syntax - Changing data source on mouseenter

  Hey everyone. I've written this simple function that is supposed to load a portion of an XML file on mouseenter. It works fine when I specify the data source explicitly, shown below. I have a number of '.invest-port-thumb' divs, each with a unique link. The following code works fine—but it loads the whole XML file—and I only want a portion: $(document).ready(function() { $('.invest-port-thumb a').mouseenter(function() { $('#slider-name').load(this.href); }); }); This code also works fine—loading only the 'cName' portion that I want it to load...Except that this code refers to one of the files, instead of the value of this.href. $(document).ready(function() { $('.invest-port-thumb a').mouseenter(function() { $('#slider-name').load('port/atd.xml cName'); }); }); I guess what I'm saying, syntax wise—How can I combine this.href and the data matching cName? Currently I can read the Gmail db with Gmail.java. There are some problems while I want to open Gmail Activity. In general, we can open Activity with Action and parameters. But Gmail App has not release code base. We do not know what Action set to Gmail Activity and what parmeter shall we put the extras. I only know that the Activity of View detial Message is named "HtmlConversationActivity." • Source folders for a maven project in eclipse

  Hello all, I have a that uses maven... and I want to put it in my working environment with eclipse(Galileo)... the project is in a svn server, and I can create check out the project and everything looks OK. I even can run the unit test and everything is working there. However, now that everything is there I wanted to work in the code, and oh surprise there are no packages in my project... I mean all the source code is in the src folder and browsing through it i can see all my files, ut if I open the files from there, the files are opened as text files with no coloring, but worst no help at all about errors in compilation. I don't know what im I doing wrong now, because I had the same project in other machine and it was working well. So here is what I did, please let me know if you notice if I did something wrong, miss any steps or anything that can help me: In the SVN Repository (Using subclipse 1.6.10) I added my SVN Repository Browsed to the folder where I have the pom file Right Click Check out as a Maven project...(Using m2eclipse 0.10.020100209) Used the default options and finish. The projects were created with no problem. I said projects because this maven project has modules, and each module became a project in eclipse. Back in the java perspective, Right click in the project, Run as maven test(Using JWebUnitTest, because I am testing a servlet) BUILD SUCCESS!! But as I said there is not packages so I can't really develop in this environment. Any help?? Thanks!

So I've tried calling databind on the dropdownlist, and databind on the datasource - and nothing is making this dropdown list update. eg. PropertyAccommodations1.DataBind(); Could someone please let me know what I'm doing wrong. Originally I thought it was due to an update panel issue.. but I've removed the update panel and it still doesn't work (and checked the master page doesn't include an update panel). Thanks!!

• Open an Application .exe window inside another application

  I have an application in WPF running. I would like that, when a button is clicked inside this application, another application opens, with its window maximized. However, I don't want my first application to stop and wait. I want both to be open and running independently. When the button is clicked again, in case the application is minimized, the application is maximized. In case it is not, it is open again. How is it possible using C#? I have tried the following: Process process = Process.GetProcesses().FirstOrDefault(f => f.ProcessName.Contains("Analysis")); ShowWindow((process ?? • Rails Heroku Gemfile.lock error - push rejected (open source)

  I am trying to push my open source RoR application to Heroku but I'm having an issue making the initial push. I have read many similar questions, but none of those answers has helped to solve my problem. I have tried bundle update and bundle install various times. I also have tried removing and then re-committing my Gemfile.lock file, however I get this same error still... $ git push heroku master Counting objects: 5199, done.   I was hoping to open a document in a menu control using a sitemap. I am using the following code in the sitemap but get an error. • ClickOnce File will not associate on open from web browser download

  I have a ClickOnce program that associates with a given extension and that works fine if the file is located on the file system. My problem comes in when this file is downloaded from a website. I have a web handler that prompts the user to Click to download the file. Upon clicking the link the user is presenter with an Open or Save Dialog. If the user chooses Open the program will not launch. If the user saves the file to their hard drive and then clicks the file the association will work. Any advice on getting the association to work on the prompt when the user clicks Open or is a Save required? -Edit : Tested this on both IE8 and Chrome with same result.

• Database source control with Oracle

  I have been looking during hours for a way to check in a database into source control. My first idea was a program for calculating database diffs and ask all the developers to imlement their changes as new diff scripts. Now, I find that if I can dump a database into a file I cound check it in and use it as just antother type of file. The main conditions are: Works for Oracle 9R2 Human readable so we can use diff to see the diferences. (.dmp files doesn't seem readable) All tables in a batch. We have more than 200 tables. It stores BOTH STRUCTURE AND DATA It supports CLOB and RAW Types. It stores Procedures, Packages and its bodies, functions, tables, views, indexes, contraints, Secuences and synonims. It can be turned into an executable script to rebuild the database into a clean machine. Not limitated to really small databases (Supports least 200.000 rows) It is not easy. I have downloaded a lot of demos that does fail in one way or another. EDIT: I wouldn't mind alternatives aproaches provided that they allows us to check a working system against our release DATABASE STRUCTURE AND OBJECTS + DATA in a bath mode. By the way. Our project has been developed for years. Some aproaches can be easily implemented when you make a fresh start but seem hard at this point. EDIT: To understand better the problem let's say that some users can sometimes do changes to the config data in the production eviroment. Or developers might create a new field or alter a view without notice in the realease branch. I need to be aware of this changes or it will be complicated to merge the changes into production.

  Since the GUI-side of OSX treats all dot-files (such as .htaccess) as hidden, it doesn't display them in any of the graphical UI:s, e.g. Finder or the Open-dialogues. How can I open a dot-file (.htaccess in this case) in a graphical editor, without doing that thing for all hidden files, universally and without going through Terminal.app? Edit: I'm on Leopard, if that makes a difference. Edit2: TextWrangler and TextMate seem to have features that allow you to open hidden files, which partly answers my question.

• JSP displaying source code instead of executing

  I'm new to jsp and have ran into some trouble. Initially, the jsp file and associated java classes were built and tested fine on a test Tomcat server. Now, they've been transitioned to another server of what I believe is the same setup (except it's linux now instead of windows). But when the jsp page is accessed the source code is displayed instead of the jsp actually executing. I've googled for a while but received no success. I had thought that this page might solve the problem since there was no reference to the jsp file I was using or even the following snippets in my web.xml file in the WEB-INF folder: <servlet> <servlet-name>jsp</servlet-name> <servlet-class>org.apache.jasper.servlet.JspServlet</servlet-class> <init-param> <param-name>logVerbosityLevel</param-name> <param-value>WARNING</param-value> </init-param> <load-on-startup>3</load-on-startup> </servlet> <servlet-mapping> <servlet-name>jsp</servlet-name> <url-pattern>*.jsp</url-pattern> </servlet-mapping> I tried inserting these lines and restarting Tomcat, but no success. • python open does not create file if it doesnt exist

  I am using Python. What is the best way to open a file in rw if it exists, or if it does not, then create it and open it in rw? From what i read, file = open('myfile.dat', 'rw') should do this, no? it is not working for me (python 2.6.2) and im wondering if it is a version problem, or not supposed to work like that or what. The bottom line is, i just need a solution for the problem. I am curious about the other stuff, but all i need is a nice way to do the opening part. thanks in advance

• How best to organize projects folders for unit tests in .NET?

  So I'm trying to introduce unit testing to my group. I've successfully upgraded a VS'05 web site project to a VS'08 web application, and now have a solution with the web app project and a unit test project. The issue now is how to fit this back into the source repository such that we don't break the build system and the unit test projects are persisted as well. Right now we have something like this: c:\root c:\root\projectA c:\root\projectB c:\root\projectC where projectA contains the sln file and all other related files/folders for the project. Now I have this new solution that looks like this: c:\root\projectA (parent folder) c:\root\projectA\projectA (the production code project) c:\root\projectA\projectA_Test (the unit test project) c:\root\projectA\TestResults c:\root\projecta\projectA.sln How do I integrate this new structure back into the code repository? I'd really prefer to keep the production code folder where it was in the source repository for the sake of the build, but is this necessary? If I keep the production code project in its usual place then where do I keep my unit test projects and how do I connect them with a sln file? Is it better to use this new structure and adjust the build process? I'd love to hear how other people are dealing with this issue of upgrading legacy projects to unit testing.

• How to Sort a TreeList in Sitecore 6 in the Source

  My team uses Sitecore 6 as content management system and then .Net to interface with Sitecore API. In many of our templates we make use of a Treelist. When adding a new item to the selected items Treelist it automatically puts the item at the bottom of the list. In some lists they get very large. In most cases end users would like to see these lists sorted descending by a Date field that is part of the templates that can be added as selected to the Treelist. Programmatically on the .Net side its very easy to handle this using Linq OrderByDescending and all displays great in the site to visitors. What I am trying to figure out is how to get it to display the same in Sitecore Content Editor. I've not found anything from Google search other than there seems to be a SortBy you can specify in the source but I tried this and can't get it to have any effect. Has anyone dealt with this before? Again, main goal is to sort items in a Treelist in the Sitecore Content Editor itself. Thanks for any input anyone has.

• Getting the size of an opening window in WebKit

  Hi, I'm implementing a "WebKit Browser In An Application" which basically embeds WebViews in Qt widgets (we're using the WebKit browser instead of Qt's since it's stabler and more up-to-date). So far everything's great, until someone clicks on a link which invokes a Javascript "Window.open" function with a custom width and height for the new window. I've set the various delegates for the parent window: setFrameLoadDelegate, setResourceLoadDelegate, setPolicyDelegate, and setUIDelegate. I am getting a createWebViewWithRequest in the UI delegate as expected when the window opens (with a null request, as others have noted). I then get a decidePolicyForNavigationAction for the new window, but it doesn't have the proposed window's width or height. I NEVER get a decidePolicyForNewWindowAction for JavaScript window.open (also noted by others). So I'm at a loss. Is there a way to get this information so I can set the Qt Widget's size correctly?

I have tried to use the WebBrowser control to open the new tab as well as tried to use the Script manager however I have not been able to open the new tab. The button I am using is a custom button in a DevExpress GridView, and I am handling its click with this code: Private Sub ASPxGridView2_CustomButtonCallback(sender As Object, e As DevExpress.Web.ASPxGridView.ASPxGridViewCustomButtonCallbackEventArgs) Handles ASPxGridView2.CustomButtonCallback If e.ButtonID <> "customButton" Then Return End If Dim neededID = ASPxGridView2.GetRowValues(e.VisibleIndex, "target") Dim id = CStr(neededID) Dim url = ("targetPage.aspx" + "?ID=" + id) Dim wb As WebBrowser wb.Navigate(url,True) End Sub I'm not sure why this would not work, any suggestions as to how I should open a new browser tab with or without the WebBrowser works for this project. • Managing My Database in Source Control

  As I am working with a new database project (within VS2008), and as I have never developed a database from scratch, I immediately began looking into how to manage a database within source control (in this case, Subversion). I found some information on SO, including this post: Keeping development databases in multiple environments in sync. One of the answers in particular pointed to a number of a links, all of which had good, useful information. I was reading a series of posts by K. Scott Allen which describe how he manages database change. From my reading (and please pardon the noobishness of my question), it seems as though the database itself is never checked into a repository. Rather, scripts that can build the database, along with test data (which is also populated from scripts) is checked into the repository. Ultimately, this means that, when a developer is testing his or her app, these scripts, which are part of the build process, are run. This ensures that the database is up-to-date, but is also run locally from every developer's machine. This makes sense to me (if I am indeed reading that correctly). However, if I am missing something, I would appreciate correction or additional guidance. In addition, another question I wanted to ask - does this also mean that I should NOT check in the mdf or ldf files that are created from Visual Studio? Thanks for any help and additional insight. It's obvious how you can open a window from a javascript link that frames an existing page, or just do a target=_blank from a regular a tag that references an existing page. • Google Chrome window.open height includes URL bar

  When we open a window using: window.open("/calendar",'calendar','width=950,height=576,titlebar=no,statusbar=no,menubar=no,resizable=no,scrollbars=no'); Firefox 3 and IE 7 open it to have a content area height of 576 plus the browser items (URL bar, status bar, etc). Chrome however opens it to have a total height of 576 meaning a scrollbar appears to the right of the content (and then the bottom because the width is now reduced). How can I get around this? It's for a heavy layout part of a web app so it's not just a matter of "let the user scroll", the client doesn't want that. Has anyone come across this? I don't mind browser sniffing and opening the window bigger, but I know that's yucky these days.

• Tools for Automated Source Code Editing

  I'm working on a research project to automatically modify code to include advanced mathematical concepts (like adding random effects into a loop or encapsulating an existing function with a new function that adds in a more advanced physical model). My question to the community is: are there are any good tools for manipulating source code directly? I want to do things like Swap out functions Add variable declarations wherever they are required Determine if a function is multiplied by anything Determine what functions are called on a line of code See what parameters are passed to a function and replace them with alternatives Introduce new function calls on certain lines of code Wherever possible just leaving the rest of the code untouched and write out the results I never want to actually compile the code I only want to understand what symbols are used, replace and add in a syntactically correct way, and be able to declare variables at the right position. I've been using a minimal flex/bison approach with some success but I do not feel the it is robust. I hate to take on writing a full language parser just to add some new info to the end of a line or the top of a function. It seems like this is almost what is going to be required but it also seems like there should be some tools out there to do these types of manipulations already. The code to be changed is in a variety of languages, but I'm particularly interested in FORTRAN. Any thoughts?
