• CSS Caching and User-CUstomized CSS - Any Suggestions?

  I'm just trying to figure out the best approach here... my consideration is that I'd like my users to be able to customize the colors of certain elements on the page. These are not pre-made css they can choose from, but rather styles that can be edited using javascript to change the style, so they cannot be "pre-made" into separate style sheets. I am also generating the css into a cache directory since I am generating the css through a PHP script. I am thinking that, perhaps I should: 1) If cached css file doesn't exist, create css file using the website default style settings. 2) If cached css file does exist, check if user has custom settings, if so, edit the cache file before displaying it. Btw, when I refer to "cached file" I mean the PHP generated css document. My goal is to prevent the need to have PHP re-generate the css file each time, whilst still allowing users, when logged in, to have their customized css settings applied. I will store these settings in a database most likely so when they return it is saved for them when they login.

• Wrapping my head around MongoDB, mongomapper and joins...

  I'm new to MongoDB and I've used RDBMS for years. Anyway, let's say I have the following collections: Realtors many :bookmarks key :name Houses key :address, String key :bathrooms, Integer Properties key :address, String key :landtype, String Bookmark key :notes I want a Realtor to be able to bookmark a House and/or a Property. Notice that Houses and Properties are stand-alone and have no idea about Realtors or Bookmarks. I want the Bookmark to be sort of like a "join table" in MySQL. The Houses/Properties come from a different source so they can't be modified. I would like to be able to do this in Rails: r = Realtor.first r.bookmarks would give me: House1 House2 PropertyABC PropertyOO1 etc... There will be thousands of Houses and Properties. I realize that this is what RDBMS were made for. But there are several reasons why I am using MongoDB so I would like to make this work. Any suggestions on how to do something like this would be appreciated. Thanks!

• Internationalized strings in Eclipse plugin.xml file are not found when installed in Eclipse applica

  Hi, I have created 2 plugins, implementing an ODA driver plugin and its UI plugin for the BIRT extension to Eclipse. My plugins both work as expected when eclipse starts up another eclipse application where I can then test the plugins I am developing. However, when I install my plugins into an Eclipse application and then start it from a Windows shortcut, the plugins work but and language keys specified in the plugin.xml files are not found. For example, in my plugin.xml file for the ODA Driver plugin I set the attributes 'id' to '%oda.data.source.id' and the data source 'defaultDisplayName' to '%data.source.name'. I then, in a file 'language.properties', have defined the values for both of these keys (where the keys don't have the preceeding % character). When running the plugins that have been installed into the dropins/plugins directory of an Eclipse application, the wizard for creating my ODA data source names is as '%data.source.name' and saves the data source in the rptdesign (XML) file with an ID of '%oda.data.source.id'. Since 'language' is not the default name for the properties file I went into the manifest for both plugins and changed the 'Bundle-Localization' attribute to 'language'. The language file is located in the root directory of both of my plugins. The properties file is definitely found, since I use the two language files to store other strings used by the plugins, looked up using a java ResourceBundle. The strings are always found whether the plugins are run from Eclipse application loading another, or when properly installed in the dropins/plugins directory of an Eclipse application. Why are the installed plugins not finding language keys reference in the plugin.xml files? There are not errors in the logs and the language.properties files are clearly accessible... • Displaying Many-To-Many Database relationship in VB.NET 2008 with DataGrid, MS SQL 2008

  Computer bombed while posting this, couldnt find a duplicate question but if there is one, forgive me. So, I've run into a wall. And rather than use a ladder to avoid it, I'd like go through it. I'm setting up what I can best describe as a many-to-many relationship in a database. To examplify, imagine I have three primary tables: Items, Categories, Sections(nevermind the potential redundancy) Then I have another table, Properties. Items, Categories, and Sections can be associated with many properties. A single property can be associated with one, all, or none of the other tables. The best way I can figure to do this is to have join tables make the relationship. i.e. tblItems----(Foreign Key)----tblItems_To_Properties----(Foreign Key)----tblProperties In this example, tblItems simply has an "ItemID" Primary Key. tblItems_To_Properties has its own Primary Key(tblItems_To_PropertiesID), a Foreign Key to the Item(ItemID) and a Foreign key to the Property(PropertyID). The Properties table simply has its primary key(PropertyID) I hope this example isnt too confusing...if I have to I can find a way to put a diagram up or something. My problem is, I want to display this in a DataGrid using the Master-Detail method(DevExpress GridControl). I use the tblItems as a test, and I can see the Items in the parent view, but in the child view I see(understandably) the join table and that is it. My goal is to make it so the Grid ignores the join table and shows the Properties table as the only child. Any help on this method or insight into another solution would be muuuuuuuch appreciat

  I've got an application that keeps track of (for the sake of an example) what drinks are available at a given restaurant. My domain model looks like: class Restaurant { public IEnumerable<RestaurantDrink> GetRestaurantDrinks() { ... } //other various properties } class RestaurantDrink { public Restaurant Restaurant { get; set; } public Drink { get; set; } public string DrinkVariety { get; set; } //"fountain drink", "bottled", etc. //other various properties } class Drink { public string Name { get; set; } public string Manufacturer { get; set; } //other various properties } My db schema is (I hope) about what you'd expect; "RestaurantDrinks" is essentially a mapping table between Restaurants and Drinks with some extra properties (like "DrinkVariety" tacked on). Using Fluent NHibernate to set up mappings, I've set up a "HasMany" relationship from Restaurants to RestaurantDrinks that causes the latter to be deleted when its parent Restaurant is deleted. My question is, given that "Drink" does not have any property on it that explicitly references RestaurantDrinks (the relationship only exists in the underlying database), can I set up a mapping that will cause RestaurantDrinks to be deleted if their associated Drink is deleted? Update: I've been trying to set up the mapping from the "RestaurantDrink" end of things using References(x => x.Drink) .Column("DrinkId") .Cascade.All(); But this doesn't seem to work (I still get an FK violation when deleting a Drink).

• How do you marshall a parameterized type with JAX-WS / JAXB?

  Consider the following classes (please assume public getter and setter methods for the private fields). // contains a bunch of properties public abstract class Person { private String name; } // adds some properties specific to teachers public class Teacher extends Person { private int salary; } // adds some properties specific to students public class Student extends Person { private String course; } // adds some properties that apply to an entire group of people public class Result<T extends Person> { private List<T> group; private String city; // ... } We might have the following web service implementation annotated as follows: @WebService public class PersonService { @WebMethod public Result<Teacher> getTeachers() { ... } @WebMethod public Result<Student> getStudents() { ... } } The problem is that JAXB appears to marshall the Result object as a Result<Person> instead of the concrete type. So the Result returned by getTeachers() is serialized as containing a List<Person> instead of List<Teacher>, and the same for getStudents(), mutatis mutandis. Is this the expected behavior? Do I need to use @XmlSeeAlso on Person? Thanks! LES

  Dear .Net Linq experts, I am looking for a way to query for products in a catalog using filters on properties which have been assigned to the product based on the category to which the product belongs. So I have the following entities involved: Products -Id -CategoryId Categories [Id] Properties [Id, CategoryId] PropertyValues [Id, PropertyId] ProductProperties [ProductId, PropertyValueId] When I ad a product to the catalog, multiple ProductProperties will be added based on the category and I would like to be able to filter all products from a category by selecting values for one or more properties. I will gather all filters, which I will hold in a list, by reading the URL. Now it is time to actually get the products based on multiple properties and I have been trying to find the right strategy but untill now it does not really work. Is there a way to make this work without writing SQL? I was trying something like this: productsInCategory = ProductRepository.Where(p => p.Category.Name == category); foreach (PropertyFilter pf in filterList) { productsInCategory = (from product in productsInCategory join pp in ProductPropertyRepository on product.Id equals pp.ProductId where pp.PropertyValueId == pf.ValueId select product); }

• Google Maps Api android key

  Hi, I have some trouble testing my Android application which includes the google maps API. The ooficial API example worked just fine but if I copy the code into my own project it keeps saying: "The application has stopped unexpectedly". I looked up the key in the keystore several times and registered it with google. Even tried reinstalling the SDK. Does anybody know what the problem is? • Safari Extension Questions

  I'm in the process of building my first Safari extension--a very simple one--but I've run into a couple of problems. The extension boils down to a single, injected script that attempts to bypass the native feed handler and redirect to an http:// URI. My issues so far are twofold: The "whitelist" isn't working the way I'd expect. Since all feeds are shown under the "feed://" protocol, I've tried to capture that in the whitelist as "feed://*/*" (with nothing in the blacklist), but I end up in a request loop that I can't understand. If I set blacklist values of "http://*/*" and "https://*/*", everything works as expected. I can't figure out how to access my settings from my injected script. The script creates a beforeload event handler, but can't access my settings using the safari.extension.settings path indicated in the documentation. I haven't found anything in Apple's documentation to indicate that settings shouldn't be available from my script. Since extensions are such a new feature, even Google returns limited relevant results and most of those are from the official documentation. What am I missing? Thanks.

• Thin and Bundler on Windows Rails

  Trying to get Thin working with Bundle on Windows, I know, major PITA but anyways, I'm new to Thin and Bundle gem, I'm on Ruby 1.8.6 and Rails 2.3.5 and trying to get someone else's app running on my laptop, the app uses Thin and Bundle gem to install gems required. I noticed that bundle created a .bundle folder under My Documents folder and put all the gems there for the app. When I tried "thin run", it reported 'thin' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. I check the environment path and it doesn't point to the .bundle folder at all and I found there is a thin.bat in C:\Documents and Settings\Bob\.bundle\ruby\1.8\bin When I tried "C:\Documents and Settings\Bob.bundle\ruby\1.8\bin\thin" start, it gave me another error c:/ruby/lib/ruby/site_ruby/1.8/rubygems.rb:777:in `report_activate_error': Could not find RubyGem thin (>= 0) (Gem::LoadError) from c:/ruby/lib/ruby/site_ruby/1.8/rubygems.rb:211:in `activate' from c:/ruby/lib/ruby/site_ruby/1.8/rubygems.rb:1056:in `gem' from C:/Documents and Settings/Bob/.bundle/ruby/1.8/bin/thin:18 I get the same error if I added "C:\Documents and Settings\Bob.bundle \ruby\1.8\bin" to the env path. Anyone know I can get this working?

  hi all, I am a newbie in working on VS IDE and have not much experience in how the different libraries and files are linked in it. I have to build a OpenCV project which was made in VS2005 by one of my colleagues into VS2008. The project is for blob detection. Following is what he has to say in readme : Steps to use the library (using MSVC++ sp 5): 1 - open the project of the library and build it 2 - in the project where the library should be used, add: 2.1 In "Project/Settings/C++/Preprocessor/Additional Include directories" add the directory where the blob library is stored 2.2 In "Project/Settings/Link/Input/Additional library path" add the directory where the blob library is stored and in "Object/Library modules" add the cvblobslib.lib file 3- Include the file "BlobResult.h" where you want to use blob variables. 4- To see an example on using the blob library, see the file example.txt inside the zip file. NOTE: Verify that in the project where the cvblobslib.lib is used, the MFC Runtime Libraries are not mixed: Check in "Project-Settings-C/C++-Code Generation-Use run-time library" of your project and set it to Debug Multithreaded DLL (debug version ) or to Multithreaded DLL ( release version ). 2 Check in "Project-Settings-General" how it uses the MFC. It should be "Use MFC in a shared DLL". NOTE: The library can be compiled and used in .NET using this steps, but the menu options may differ a little NOTE2: In the .NET version, the character sets must be equal in the .lib and in the project.   I have a Visual Studio 2008 Solution where the main output exe is a VB.Net Winforms exe which has several VB.Net and C# dll's linked from the same solution. The whole solution is under version control with subversion. Now I want to automagically update by generated files with the current svn revision number. For this purpose I found this neat project: http://svnversiontasks.codeplex.com/ You also need the MSBuild.Communuity.Tasks for this to work.   Hello everybody, Today my question is about date formats and strings. My application downloads some strings representing dates from the internet. The date format is always like this: "2010-05-24 at 20:45" I need to convert this string into an NSDate object in order to perform some date manipulations. As long as I switch to 12h clock in the general settings the NSDate object is not created (and the application happily crashes) I have read others having similar problems but I don't seem to find a solution. Now the questions: It doesn't make sense to me that the NSDateFormatter is sensible to user settings as long as I am specifying which format it is supposed to use to parse the string (which is not modifiable because it comes from the web), what's the use of checking user settings? More important, how can I get my task performed (to get an NSDate object from the string regardless the user settings)?

• Architecting iPhone Views - seeking help on a specific issue + general advice

  Hi there, I am a web developer (rails, python) that is new to iPhone development. I've done some desktop development in the past within the MS environment (C#). I'm trying to build a really simple iPhone application and I am confused by the way that views work in general. If someone can provide advice for my particular problem, along with some resources where I can learn how to architect iPhone views in the future, that would be awesome. I feel like a lot of the Apple documentation that I've come across is too specific - I am lacking a fundamental understanding of how views work on the iPhone. My particular problem looks like this: I need one view that displays some downloaded text content. This is the view that shows when the app loads, and it is pretty straightforward. Then I need a settings area (I've already decided I don't want to use the iPhone settings area). The settings area main page will have some text fields on it. It will also have a 2-row grouped table. Each cell in that table will take you to another view which also has a grouped table used for multi-select. I suspect that I can reuse the same view for these two final "detailed setting" views. In summary: home page settings main page detailed setting 1 detailed setting 2 Any help and advice appreciated.

• Debug Symbols not loading

  I am trying to enable visual studio to step through the .net framework source code when I am debugging. I have tried with both Visual Web-Developer-Express-2010 and Visual-Studio-2011-Express-For-Web and I am getting the same problem with each. When I get to the break point at the .net method I wish to step into I do right-clickstep-into-specificclick-method-to-step-into. Then VS opens a new tab. saying it couldn't find or load the symbols. It gives a list of the assembly symbols it looked for. There is also a 'Load Symbols hyperlink which doesn't work. And another hyperlink that takes me to the debug settings dialog. I have read tutorials on how to set it up and have believe I have the correct settings. In the debugging general settings I have - enable address-level debugging - checked enable source server support - checked enable .net framework source stepping - checked enable just my code - not checked In the debugging symbol settings I have - symbol file (.pdb) locations - Microsoft Symbol Servers - checked Caching Directory - C:\Users\MyAccount\AppData\Local\Temp\SymbolCache Automatically load symbols for: all modules unless excluded - checked Why is it not working? • Accessing Spring beans from a Tiles view (JSP)

  In Spring MVC I can access my beans in JSP using JstlView's exposedContextBeanNames (or exposeContextBeansAsAttributes). For example, then, in my JSP I can write (${properties.myProperty). But when the same JSP is a part of a tiles view, these properties aren't accessible. Is possible to configure Tiles properly or access these properties in another way? I'm using Spring MVC 3.0.2 and Tiles 2.2.1.   I am developing a Django project with PyDev in Eclipse. For a while, PyDev's Django Shell worked great.   How do I get Spring to load Hibernate's properties from hibernate.cfg.xml? We're using Spring and JPA (with Hibernate as the implementation). Spring's applicationContext.xml specifies the JPA dialect and Hibernate properties: <bean id="entityManagerFactory" class="org.springframework.orm.jpa.LocalEntityManagerFactoryBean"> <property name="jpaDialect"> <bean class="org.springframework.orm.jpa.vendor.HibernateJpaDialect" /> </property> <property name="jpaProperties"> <props> <prop key="hibernate.dialect">org.hibernate.dialect.MySQLInnoDBDialect</prop> </props> </property> </bean> In this configuration, Spring is reading all the Hibernate properties via applicationContext.xml . When I create a hibernate.cfg.xml (located at the root of my classpath, the same level as META-INF), Hibernate doesn't read it at all (it's completely ignored).
