  All, I'm using Cucumber for acceptance testing a Ruby command line utility. This utility pulls data in from a webservice. I understand Cucumber is for acceptance testing and tests the whole stack but I still need to provide consistant replies from the webservice. Should I mock the webservice? If yes, how? • How can I use Mongrel for my non-rails ruby webapp?

  I've got a non-RoR but ruby webapp in the works. So far, I've just been using requests, hacks, and mod_ruby; but I'd really like to try out Mongrel--which seems to work really well for RoR sites. I looked at the examples given in GitHub, and none of them does dynamic changing of content w/o having to restart Mongrel like you can do in RoR under dev mode. How can I do this? (Just using load doesn't work.)

  In Ruby on Rails, say a Story object can "has_many" Vote objects (a story is voted "hot" by many users). So when we do a s = Story.find(:first) s is a Story object, and say s.votes returns [] and s.votes.class returns Array So clearly, s.votes is an empty Array object. At this time, when s.votes.create is called, it actually invokes a method of the Vote class? How come an Array class object can invoke a Vote class method?

  I am writing a script that grabs the external IP address along with some other information about each iface. I can't figure out how to make ruby send traffic over a specific iface(eth0 and wlan0 for example). I am currently using the open-uri library to open http://whatismyip.org and read it into a variable. def get_external_ip begin open("http://whatismyip.org") { |f| return f.read } rescue return "none" end end Is there any way to specify this at runtime of the script or from within the script itself(ideally)?
