• Using ant to add directories to CVS

  How do I add a new directory into my CVS repository using Ant? From all that I've read, it appears that I have to cd to the parent directory and call the cvs command. How do I do that in Ant? I've seen approaches where an to cd is called in Ant; is that the best approach? Eg of what I am trying to do: Let's say I have a module Test_Module with directories "A", "B" and "C". Under each of these directories, there are directories for "Jan", "June", "Sept" and I want to create a "Alpha" directory under Test_Module- C - Sept. So, I create a "Alpha" directory on my local system and run the cvs add command from Root and I get the following errror: cvs add: in directory .: cvs [add aborted]: there is no version here; do 'cvs checkout' first I get the same error when I run this using Ant or from command line. Now, if I cd to the Test_Module/C/Sept directory and run "cvs add Alpha" it creates the directory and everything is fine. So, how do I do the same in Ant? Are there any ant-contrib tasks that are out there that I could possibly use or even a built-in ant task that I am missing? Thanks in Advance!!

(title says it all) Let's say I have a struct struct Foo { void bar () { do_baz(this); } void do_baz(Foo*& pFoo) { pFoo->p_sub_foo = new Foo; // for example } Foo* p_sub_foo; } GCC tells me that temp.cpp: In member function ‘void Foo::bar()’: temp.cpp:3: error: no matching function for call to ‘Foo::do_baz(Foo* const)’ temp.cpp:5: note: candidates are: void Foo::do_baz(Foo*&) So, how do I convert what is apparently a const Foo* to a Foo*&?

• How do you develop Visual Studio Add-Ins?

  I have a vague idea Visual Studio allows you to run a second sandboxed instance where the add-in is being in fact loaded. That'd allow you to debug your add-in code and such. Is this effectively possible? How would I go about doing that? I'm currently using a single instance of Visual Studio. I'm having the problem that as I load and run the add-in, it won't allow me to compile again until I restart that instance of Visual Studio as there seems to be no way to unload the add-in. Even using two instances of Visual Studio wouldn't really help in here. There must be an easier way, how do you guys do it? Thanks

• Steps in creating a web service using Axis2 - The client code

  I am trying to create a web service, my tools of trade are: ** Axis2, Eclipse, Tomcat, Ant ** I need to create a web service from Code, i.e. Write a basic java class which will have the methods to be declared in the WSDL. Then use java2WSDL.sh to create my WSDL. So, is this approach correct: Write my Java class with actual business logic package packageNamel; public class Hello{ public void World(String name) { SOP("Hello" + name); } } Now, when I pass this Hello.java to java2WSDL.sh, this will give me the WSDL. Finally, I will write the services.xml file, and create the Hello.aar with following dir structure: Hello.aar packageName Hello.class META-INF services.xml MANIFEST.MF Hello.WSDL Now, I assume, my service will be deployed when I put the aar in tomcat1/webapps/axis2/WEB-INF/services But, here comes my problem, HOW DO I ACCESS THE METHOD World(String name)???!!, i.e. I am clueless about the client code! • Is writing a reference atomic on 64bit VMs

  Hi The java memory model mandates that writing a int is atomic: That is, if you write a value to it (consisting of 4 bytes) in one thread and read it in another, you will get all bytes or none, but never 2 new bytes and 2 old bytes or such. This is not guaranteed for long. Here, writing 0x1122334455667788 to a variable holding 0 before could result in another thread reading 0x112233440000000 or 0x0000000055667788. Now the specification does not mandate object references to be either int or long-sized. For type safety reasons I suspect they are guaranteed to be written atomiacally, but on a 64bit VM these references could be very well 64bit values (merely memory addresses). No here are my question: Are there any memory model specs covering this (that I haven't found)? Are long-writes suspect to be atomic on 64bit VMs? Are VMs forced to map references to 32bit?   I am using matplotlib In plot() or bar(), we can easily put legend, if we add labels to them. but what if it is a contourf() or imshow() I know there is a colorbar() which can present the color range, but it is not satisfied. I want such a legend which have names(labels). For what I can think of is that, add labels to each element in the matrix, then ,try legend(), to see if it works, but how to add label to the element, like a value?? in my case, the raw data is like: 1,2,3,3,4 2,3,4,4,5 1,1,1,2,2 for example, 1 represents 'grass', 2 represents 'sand', 3 represents 'hill'... and so on. imshow() works perfectly with my case, but without the legend. my question is: Is there a function that can automatically add legend, for example, in my case, I just have to do like this: someFunction('grass','sand',...) If there isn't, how do I add labels to each value in the matrix. For example, label all the 1 in the matrix 'grass', labell all the 2 in the matrix 'sand'...and so on. Thank you!

• writing a web service with dynamically determined web methods

  Let's say I have a text file of basic mathematical functions. I want to make a web service that answers these mathematical functions. Say the first one is y=x*x. If I wanted to turn this into a web service, I could simply do this: [WebMethod] public int A(int x) { return x*x; } However, I've extracted the function from the list by hand and coded it into a function by hand. That's not what I want to do. I want the wsdl for the service to be generated at call time directly from the text file, and I want the web method calls to the service to go to a specific method that also parses the text file at run time. How much heavy lifting is this? I've found a sample on how to generate WSDLs dynamically at this link, but there's a lot more to do beyond that and I don't want to bark up this tree if there are parts of the project that arn't feasible. Does anyone have any links, guides, books, or positive experiences trying this kind of thing?

  I have a WCF service which can run as Console App and a Windows Service. I have exactly the same code, but running in a windows service and I get the following error when I try to call any of the methods from a client: System.ServiceModel.Security.MessageSecurityException was unhandled Message="An unsecured or incorrectly secured fault was received from the other party. See the inner FaultException for the fault code and detail." Source="mscorlib" StackTrace: Server stack trace: at System.ServiceModel.Channels.SecurityChannelFactory`1.SecurityRequestChannel.ProcessReply(Message reply, SecurityProtocolCorrelationState correlationState, TimeSpan timeout) ...... (lots of stacktrace info - not very useful) InnerException: System.ServiceModel.FaultException Message="An error occurred when verifying security for the message." The exception tells me nothing. I'm assuming that it has something to do with acces to system resources from the Windows Service. I've tried running it under the same account as the console app, but no luck. Does anyone have any ideas?

  I have an AjaxControlToolkit accordion control that i'm trying to load panes at runtime. When I click a button inside a listview, it should add a new pane to the accordion control. Here is the code that adds the pane in the onitemcommand event within the listview var pane = new AccordionPane { ID = key }; pane.HeaderContainer.Controls.Add(new LiteralControl(label.Text)); pane.ContentContainer.Controls.Add(LoadControl("~/UserControls/Covers/" + e.CommandArgument + ".ascx")); accordion.Panes.Add(pane); And this will successfully show a webcontrol inside the accordion control. But when I click on another button in the listview, the accordion is reset and it only shows the new pane instead of appending a new pane. Is there any way to keep the previous pane visible across postbacks like this? By the way, each of the webcontrols that are loaded in the accordion have input fields that will need to be persisted across postbacks as well. thanks!

• Alternative Python standard library reference

  I love Python; I absolutely despise its official documentation. Tutorials do not count as library references, but that appears to be what they're attempting. What I really want is the ability to find a class in the standard library and view documentation for all of its properties and methods. Actionscript, MSDN, and Java all do this just fine (although each with their odd quirks). Where is this for python? For example, I wanted to sort a list. mylist.sort(). Awesome. But what if I wanted it sorted in descending order? Official documentation is not - much - help. Or what if I wanted to specify a key function? That's also supported: mylist.sort(key=lamba item: item.customVar)- but documented...where? I understand that Python's approach to OOP may not be equivalent to Java et. al. Maybe list isn't actually a class - maybe it's just a function that returns an iterable when the tachyon beams are set to glorious and the unboxed hyper enumeration is quantized, but...I don't care. I just want to know how to sort lists. (Apologies for the angst - too much caffeine today)

• WCF Service timeout in Callback

  I'm trying to get to grips with WCF, in particular writing a WCF Service application with callback. I've setup the service, together with the callback contract but when the callback is called, the app is timing out. Essentially, from a client I'm setting a property within the service class. The Setter of this property, if it fails validation fires a callback and, well, this is timing out. I realise that this is probably to it not being an Asynchronous calback, but can someone please show me how to resolve this? • Why can you reference an imported module using the importing module in python

  I am trying to understand why any import can be referenced using the importing module, e.g #module master.py import slave and then >>>import master >>>print master.slave gives <module 'slave' from 'C:\Documents and Settings....'> What is the purpose of the feature? I can see how it can be helpful in a package's __init__.py file, but nothing else. Is it a side effect of the fact that every import is added to the module's namespace and that the module's namespace is visible from the outside? If so, why didn't they make an exception with data imported from other modules (e.g don't show it as part of the module's namespace for other modules)?

• Reference a internal class from a Windows Workflow Activity

  I'm creating a custom Workflow activity for use within TFS2010. In the same assembly I have a XAML activity and a C# code activity. The XAML activity references the code activity. When the assembly is deployed to our clients, I only want them to be able to use the Workflow activity. The code activity is of little use by itself and would no doubt confuse them. I thought the logical way to do this would be to set the code activity class to internal: the XAML is in the same assembly and should be able to access it. However, when I do that I get an error in the XAML saying that the assembly can't be found. Is there a way to make activities internal/hidden?

• Reference inherited class's <T>ype in a derived class

  I don't know if its possible or not, but here's what I need. I'm toying around with something and want to know if its possible since you can't create your own data type based on a sealed type such as int, Int32, Int64, etc. I want to create a top-level class that is defined of a given type with some common stuff. Then, derive this into two subclasses, but in this case, each class is based on either and int or Int64 type. From THAT instance, create an instance of either one and know its yped basis for parameter referenc / return settings. So when I need to create an instance of the "ThisClass", I don't have to know its type basis of either int or Int64, yet IT will know the type and be able to allow methods/functions to be called with the typed... This way, If I want to change my ThisClass definition from SubLevel1 to SubLevel2, I don't have to dance around all different data type definitions. Hope this makes sense.. public class TopLevel<T> { ... } pubic class SubLevel1 : TopLevel<int> { ... } public class SubLevel2 : TopLevel<Int64> { ... } public class ThisClass : SubLevel1 { ... public <based on the Int data type from SubLevel1> SomeFunc() { return <the Int value computed>; } }

  Hi, In my visual studio project (C++), when i copy a method(meth1) of a particular scope say 'scope1' and paste it in the same code area, it is getting pasted in General Scope. i.e I want to add a method into a particular scope but when i try it is getting added in general scope. How can i solve this? For eg: There is an existing method: void add(int a, int b) { .... } This method is in File scope. i.e limited for that file. Now i want to add another method add2 in the same file scope. So I copied the existing add method and pasted it. void add2(int a, int b) { .... } But this method is getting added in the global scope and not in the file scope.

• A simple WCF Service (POX) without complex serialization

  I'm a complete WCF novice. I'm trying to build a deploy a very, very simple IIS 7.0 hosted web service. For reasons outside of my control it must be WCF and not ASMX. It's a wrapper service for a pre-existing web application that simply does the following: 1) Receives a POST request with the request body XML-encapsulated form elements. Something like valuevalue. This is untyped XML and the XML is atomic (a form) and not a list of records/objects. 2) Add a couple of tags to the request XML and the invoke another HTTP-based service with a simple POST + bare XML -- this will actually be added by some internal SQL ops but that isn't the issue. 3) Receive the XML response from the 3rd party service and relay it as the response to the original calling client in Step 1. The clients (step 1) will be some sort of web-based scripting but could be anything .aspx, python, php, etc. I can't have SOAP and the usual WCF-based REST examples with their contracts and serialization have me confused. This seems like a very common and very simple problem conceptually. It would be easy to implement in code but IIS-hosted WCF is a requirement. Any pointers?

• Linq to sql add/update in different methods with different datacontexts

  I have to methods, Add() and Update() which both create a datacontext and returns the object created/updated. In my unit test I call first Add(), do some stuff and then call Update(). The problem is that Update() fails with the exception: System.Data.Linq.DuplicateKeyException: Cannot add an entity with a key that is already in use.. I understand the issue but want to know what to do about it? I've read a bit about how to handle multiple datacontext objects and from what I've heard this way is OK. I understand that the entity is still attached to the datacontext in Add() but I need to find out how to solve this? Thanks in advance
