    I have a list of files named: file000 file001 file002 file003 ... file1100 How can I match all files that have a number greater than 800 but less than 1000 ? I am using linux bash Thank you Edit Actually, my files are named like: ab869.enc cp936.enc g122345.enc x2022.enc abc8859-14.enc aax5601.enc cp936-1.enc so the first solution dont match the correct files :( How can I match files that have number between 800-999 ?

    Hi, I want to excluse a specific filename (say, fubar.log) from a shell (bash) globbing string, *.log. Nothing of what I tried seems to work, because globbing doesn't use the standard RE set. Test case : the directory contains fubar.log fubaz.log barbaz.log text.txt and only fubaz.log barbaz.log must be expanded by the glob.

However I cannot imagine working in a language without lists and hashes, maybe I'm just jumping a gun, but surely there are 'standard' collection libraries. I do not see any in the GNU standard lib though, any suggestions?

If necessary a temporary file could be used to hold the output, although I would like to avoid this. I have been able to use \immediate\write18 to invoke a bash command before, but this was only used to write to a temporary file.     Hi, in C++, using printf I want to print a sequence of number, so I get, from a "for" loop; 1 2 ... 9 10 11 and I create files from those numbers. But when I list them using "ls" I get 10 11 1 2 .. so instead of trying to solve the problem using bash, I wonder how could I print; 0001 0002 ... 0009 0010 0011 and so on Thanks

    I've got some experience with Bash, which I don't mind, but now that I'm doing a lot of Windows development I'm needing to do basic stuff/write basic scripts using the Windows command-line language. For some reason said language really irritates me, so I was considering learning Python and using that instead. Is Python suitable for such things? Moving files around, creating scripts to do things like unzipping a backup and restoring a SQL database, etc.

    Hello guys, I've installed MAMP on my MacBook PRO Leopard OS. Phpmyadmin is working fine but I would like to use the terminal or bash to practice MySQL. I seem to have a problem with it. When I say: "mysql -h localhost -u root -p" / "mysql -h localhost -u root", it gives the following error.     So I've just started configuring Nagios in my environment and I'm getting the above error when trying to user the NRPE plugin.   • Determine which active directory object is referred to by GUID in a Directory Synchronization Error Report

    We have active directory syncronization setup between our on-premises AD server and Microsoft hosted Exchange (business productivity online services). I've started getting a daily error report, which details an error for a specific AD user, however it references it by GUID. I can't find any info on how to translate that object guid into something meaningful so I can find and fix the problem. The error is reported as: Error 005: Unable to set the alias for this object in Microsoft Online Services because either the primary SMTP address, the e-mail nickname, or the SAM account name in the local Active Directory contains an invalid character. in reference to the Object GUID: CN={8443cbb4-5199-49f0-9529-ce965430dca6} How can I translate that object guid into a friendly object name?

  • sudo: apache restarting a service on CentOS

    I need my web app to restart the dansguardian service (on CentOS) so it needs to run '/sbin/service dansguardian restart' I have a shellscript in /home/topological called apacherestart.sh which does the following: #!/bin/sh id=`id` /sbin/service dansguardian restart r=$? return $r This runs ok (logger statement in script for testing output to syslog, so I know it's running) To make it run, I put this in /etc/sudoers: User_Alias APACHE=www # Cmnd alias specification Cmnd_Alias HTTPRESTART=/home/topological/apacherestart.sh,/sbin/e-smith/db,/etc/rc7.d/S91dansguardian # Defaults specification # User privilege specification root ALL=(ALL) ALL APACHE ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD: HTTPRESTART So far so good. But the service does not restart. To test this I created a user david, and fudged the uid/gid in /etc/passwd to be the same as www: www:x:102:102:e-smith web server:/home/e-smith:/bin/false david:x:102:102:David:/home/e-smith/files/users/david:/bin/bash then logged in as david and tried to run the apacherestart.sh. The problem I get is: /etc/rc7.d/S91dansguardian: line 51: /sbin/e-smith/db: Permission denied even though S91dansguardian and db are in the sudoers command list. Any ideas?
