• AJAX with Web services and ASP.NET SessionState

  We have an application which uses ScriptManager to generate a client-side proxy which makes AJAX calls to web services. The web services being invoked live in a separate appDomain(separate cluster altogether). The problem is that our application uses a State server for storing session. I want the web services to be able to access session also. First off, does anyone see anything wrong with the client making web service calls to a separate cluster(we're hoping this would be a better approach for scalability)? I was thinking that possibly anytime there is an update to the session dictionary in one appDomain, automatically update the session in the other appDomain also(referring to the web service appDomain, don't know how to do this, only theoretical). What do others think? Thanks!

• Windows disassembler: looking for a tool...

  Hello. I'm looking for a (preferably free) tool that can produce "proper" disassembly listing from a (non-.NET) windows PE file (*.exe or *.dll). Important requirement: it should be possible to run the listing through a windows assembler (nasm, masm or whatever) and get working exe again (not necessarily identical to original one, but it should behave in the same way). Intended usage is adding new subroutines into existing code, when source is not available. Ideally, tool should be able to detect function/segment boundaries, API calls, and generate proper labels for jumps (I can live without labels for loops/jumps, though, but function boundary detection would be nice), and keep program resources/segments in place. I'm already aware of IdaPRO(not free), OllyDBG (useful for in-place hacking, doesn't generate disassembly listing, AFAIK), ndisasm (output isn't suitable for assembler), dumpbin (useful, but AFAIK, output isn't suitable for assembler) and "proxy dll" technique. Ideas? Or maybe there is a book/tutorial that explains some kind of alternative approach?

• How to retrieve JSON Data Array from ExtJS Store

  Is there a method allowing me to return my stored data in an ExtJS Grid Panel exactly the way I loaded it using: var data = ["value1", "value2"] Store.loadData(data); I would like to have a user option to reload the Grid, but changes to the store need to be taken into account. The user can make changes and the grid is dynamically updated, but if I reload the grid, the data that was originally loaded is shown even though the database has been updated with the new changes. I would prefer not to reload the page and just let them reload the grid data itself with the newly changed store. I guess im looking for something like this: var data = Store.getData(); //data = ["value1", "value2"] after its all said and done. Or is there a different way to refresh the grid with new data that I am not aware of. Even using the proxy still uses the "original" data, not the new store. Thanks in advance

• Downloading a file in ASP.NET (through the server) while streaming it to the user

  My ASP.NET website currently downloads a file from a remote server to a local drive, although when users access the site they have to wait for the server to finish downloading the file until they can then download the file from my ASP.NET website. Is it possible to almost stream the download from the remote website - through my ASP.NET website directly to the user (a bit like a proxy) ?   I have a component which should be initialized in a certain way ONLY on the main AppDomain. On other AppDomains, it is initialized as a proxy to the object that lives in the main appdomain. The component uses AppDomain.Current.IsDefaultAppDomain() to determine whether it is on the main appdomain or not. My problem is that when running unit tests (NUnit), this method returns false, as the test runner initializes my test classes in a different app domain, causing the tests to not behave right. How can this be resolved?

  We have setup our network as per the tutorial here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Upside-Down-TernetHowTo. Basically, we have a squid proxy that inverts images for pages that clients request. We're trying to modify the script so that we can edit the contents of the webpage before the webpage is sent to the client. We are not having any luck. I'm wondering if there is something different about .html files that makes this not possible. What is happening is that we do a wget on the URI that is requested, save it locally, modify it and then echo back the new URI. The page that the user gets is the unmodified page and not the one that we just changed.

  Hi all, Is there a vetted Windows-friendly, or even .NET-native, load-distributing/load-balancing utility out there along the lines of HA Proxy? We have a .NET stack product, and the one piece that we step out of the stack is for load-balancing. We need something with configurable rules for distribution -- perhaps subdomain-driven -- that NLB alone doesn't seem to offer. If it integrates directly with .NET, or offers an exposed API callable by webservices, so much the better! Thanks in advance! Clarification: we need to logically part over boxes. • Getting "Object is read only" error when setting ClientCredentials in WCF

  I have a proxy object generated by Visual Studio (client side) named ServerClient. I am attempting to set ClientCredentials.UserName.UserName/Password before opening up a new connection using this code: InstanceContext context = new InstanceContext(this); m_client = new ServerClient(context); m_client.ClientCredentials.UserName.UserName = "Sample"; As soon as the code hits the UserName line it fails with an "Object is read-only" error. I know this can happen if the connection is already open or faulted, but at this point I haven't called context.Open() yet. I have configured the Bindings (which uses netTcpBinding) to use Message as it's security mode, and MessageClientCredentialType is set to UserName. Any ideas?

• Replay attacks for HTTPS requests

  Let's say a security tester uses a proxy, say Fiddler, and records an HTTPS request using the administrator's credentials-- on replay of the entire request (including session and auth cookies) the security tester is able to succesfully (re)record transactions. The claim is that this is a sign of a CSRF vulnerability. What would a malicious user have to do to intercept the HTTPS request and replay it? It this a task for script kiddies, well funded military hacking teams or time-traveling-alien technology? Is it really so easy to record the SSL sessions of users and replay them before the tickets expire? No code in the application currently does anything interesting on HTTP GET, so AFAIK, tricking the admin into clicking a link or loading a image with a malicious URL isn't an issue.

I know that my eclipse can connect to the 'net because I downloaded subclipse earlier (I had to change my proxy settings). I get a similar message for other SVN locations I've tried to add. Anyone have any solutions?

• What is cached on a client machine when using https.

  I have an application that is working on https for everybody and on http for all but two users. The two users get a JavaScript error when trying to "edit" a page while on http but can edit the page on https. The problem is for occurs for both IE6 and FF3.6 for one of these users. Others have no problem using any browser. I have used Charles Proxy to look at the server response and no request is being made to https when on http and all browser requests return successfully. I have cleared all caches known to me on the clients (browser, jvm). Are http and https caches stored in different locations on the clients computers. Could a cached encrypted file be being read on the unencrypted port.

• Using .htaccess to replace backslash in URL with forward-slash

  I realise that a backslash should never appear in a URL in a form other than a URL escape code, however in this case the URL's are being generated by a .NET application for generating flashbooks. I have contacted the developer of this application with a bug report. In the interim i would like to use .htaccess to rewrite the offending backslashes. This is how the URLs appear in fiddler debugging proxy. www.example.com/folder/folder/thumbs%5C1.jpg I am using Firefox and it looks as though Firefox is translating them into the URL encoded equivalent ( \ == %5C1 ). Interestingly IE translates the backslash into a forward-slash automatically (not adhering to standards but convenient in this case). Is there a way to use .htaccess to rewrite all \ to /?

• How to inject dependencies into a custom UserNamePasswordValidator in WCF?

  I'm using a UserNamePasswordValidator in WCF along with Unity for my dependency injection, but since WCF creates the instance of the UserNamePasswordValidator, I cannot inject my container into the class. So how would one go about this? The simplest solution I can think of is to create a static proxy/wrapper class around a static instance of a UnityContainer, which exposes all the same methods... This way, any class can access the container, and I don't need to inject it everywhere. So I could just do UnityContainerWrapper.Resolve() anywhere in code. So basically this solution solves 2 problems for me, I can use it in classes that I'm not creating an instance of, and I can use it anywhere without having to inject the container into a bunch of classes. The only downside I can think of is that I'm now potentially exposing my container to a bunch of classes that wouldn't of had access to the container before. Not really sure if this is even a problem though?

  We are managing a heavy traffic php site (driven with vbulletin). To get less load I use the cache-proxy varnish. Works very well - with varnish the load was reduced by 50%. But now I am thinking about which webserver to use behind varnish. 90% requests getting to the webserver are php-requests. So is there a difference between apache/mpm-prefork with mod_php and nginx/php-fpm? Is apache perhaps better, because it doesn't have the tcp overhead?   Hi, We use the asp.net UpdatePanel and the ScriptManager/ScriptManagerProxy for ajax related functionality; reducing full page refreshes and calling WCF Services respectively. we also use jQuery and plugins for some parts of the UI. We have had some issues with javascript library related conflicts, but have come across some posts indicating that there is a lot more overhead using the UpdatePanel. I have found some limited reference to UFrame: http://www.codeproject.com/KB/aspnet/uframe.aspx www.codeplex.com/uframe Is this a commercially viable replacement for the asp.net UpdatePanel? We use a ScriptManagerProxy to reference WCF services and easily create and use a proxy to call the various WCF service methods. Would using jQuery ajax be a more efficient solution here? We have got this working well on various browsers but now seem to be getting some security related issues (as seen in FF Firebug: Access to restricted URI denied" code: "1012) which seem to have started since using jQuery a lot more. Is it possible/viable to not use ASP.NET Ajax at all?

  I've added a proxy to a webservice to a VS2008/.NET 3.5 solution. When constructing the client .NET throws this error: Could not find default endpoint element that references contract 'IMySOAPWebService' in the service model client configuaration section. This might be because no configuaration file was found for your application or because no end point element matching this contract could be found in the client element Searching for this error tells me to use the full namespace in the contract. Here's my app.config with full namespace: <client> <endpoint address="http://192.168.100.87:7001/soap/IMySOAPWebService" binding="basicHttpBinding" bindingConfiguration="IMySOAPWebServicebinding" contract="Fusion.DataExchange.Workflows.IMySOAPWebService" name="IMySOAPWebServicePort" /> </client> I'm running XP local (I mention this because a number of Google hits mention win2k3) The app.config is copied to app.exe.config, so that is also not the problem. Any clues?
