    Hey all, recently I installed the Minecraft .jar and played it. It's a bit of fun, but the coolest thing about it IMO has been the anaglyph 3D option. Yay, a ViewMaster game! Anyway, I'm looking for other anaglyph 3D games and apps. I understand that there's an anaglyph plugin for Compiz as well, although it apparently is an inactive project since 2008. An anaglyph interface for Blender would be severely awesome, right?

  • How to install .deb file from within preinst script

    I have my own application packaged using dpkg. The application depends on several deb files which I'm trying to install from within the preinst script of my application. The preinst script checks if a dependent deb file is installed, if not it goes to installt it using the dpkg -i command. This is repeated for all the dependent deb files needed by the main application. When I try to install the main application using dpkg -i, the commands returns failure when trying to execute the preinst script. Below is that error message. dpkg: error: dpkg status database is locked by another process I deleted /var/lib/dpkg/lock file and retried to install the application. But to no avail. If I run the preinst script separately like any other shell script, it runs without any issue. All the deb files will be installed properly. So, the issue is only when this preinst script is being run automatically by the dpkg -i command. I'm lost trying to determine the root cause. If anyone can shed some light on what the real issue might be, their help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Ashwin

    Say I have a simple structure: app = webapp2.WSGIApplication([ (r'/', 'pages.login'), (r'/profile', 'pages.profile'), (r'/dashboard', 'pages.dash'), ], debug=True) Basically all pages require authentication except for the login. If visitor tries to reach a restrictive page and he isn't authorized (or lacks privileges) then he gets redirected to the login view. The question is about the routing design. Should I check the auth and ACL privs in each of the modules (pages.profile and pages.dash from example above), or just pass all requests through the single routing mechanism: app = webapp2.WSGIApplication([ (r'/', 'pages.login'), (r'/.+', 'router') ], debug=True) I'm still quite new to the GAE, but my app requires authentication as well as ACL. I'm aware that there's login directive on the server config level, but I don't know how it works and how I can tight it with my ACL logic and what's worse I cannot estimate time needed to get it running. Besides, it looks only to provide only 2 user groups: admin and user. In any case, that's the configuration I use: handlers: - url: /favicon.ico static_files: static/favicon.ico upload: static/favicon.ico - url: /static/* static_dir: static - url: .* script: main.app secure: always Or I miss something here and ACL can be set in the config file? I'm thinking of hosting our own site on a separate web host, but emails sent to our domain might be directed to our web host. Is there a way to continue using Gmail while the domain points to the web host? I've never dealt with domain names and web hosts before, nor am I experienced with web development (will use a CMS).

    I'm trying to create an upstart script to run a python script on startup. In theory it looks simple enough but I just can't seem to get it to work.   • How does the new google maps make buildings and cityscapes 3D?

    Anyone who's seen the new Google maps has no doubt taken note of the incredible amount of three-dimensional detail in select American cities such as Boston, New York, Chicago, and San Francisco. They've even modeled the trees, bridges and some of the boats in the harbor! Minor architectural details are present. It's crazy. Looking at it up close, I've found there's a rectangular area around each of those cities, and anything within them is 3Dified, but it cuts off hard and fast at the edge, even if it's in the middle of a building. The edge of the rectangle is where the 3D stops. This leads me to think it's being done algorithmically (which would make sense, given the scale of the project, how many trees and buildings and details there are), and yet I can't imagine how that's possible. How could an algorithm model all these things without extensive data on their shapes and contours? How could it model the individual wires of a bridge, or the statues in a park? It must be done by hand, and yet how could it be for so much detail! Does anyone have any insight on this?

  • With Google Analytics, is it possible to check a specific page in Multi-Channel conversion attribution?

    I'm somewhat new to Google Analytics, and I'm trying to track all conversions that are assisted by a particular landing page, because I don't expect an instant purchase. I have e-commerce tracking set up. Due to the constraints of the associated ad campaign, I can't include the source/medium code in the url when people go to the landing page, and all of my traffic to the landing page is likely to be direct, so I'm not sure how to tell Multi-Channel marketing that it's a significant page. I know how to add events to a page, but I'm still figuring out what they can and cannot do. Would creating a redirect from the landing url to an identical url+source/medium code work? Any advice on how to accomplish this would be greatly appreciated. Tracking the final sale conversion is not the issue. Ecommerce reporting is functioning just fine on the site. I just want to report the landing page as an assist, whenever it shows up in the funnel, and I need to be able to do that across multiple visits.

  • Desktop appliciations are unable to launch my browser in Windows 8 [migrated]

    I have a fresh copy of Windows 8 Pro installed from MSDN. I have Google Chrome installed (stable channel) and it is set as my default browser. I even went into Control Panel Default Programs to ensure that Chrome had all its defaults. When other desktop applications try to launch my browser they always fail. For example, while trying to install the Android SDK for Windows the installer accurately detected that I did not have the JDK installed. It provides a friendly button to visit java.oracle.com. When pressing this button, nothing happens at all. You can see that here: http://youtu.be/XXL8GhuWWg0 If it were only that application that was having issues I wouldn't think anything of it but I have been encountering similar issues all over the place. Probably the most irritating one is when visual studio has updates; clicking the update button does nothing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwd1mn3TId0 You can see in that screencast that Visual Studio is not able to launch the browser no matter what I click. The update button doesn't do anything and neither do the two links in the update's description. Any suggestions? I'm assuming it's a Windows issue since it is happening in multiple applications.
