• Displaying Fields (and/instead of Properties) in a PropertyGrid

  I'd like to use a PropertyGrid to manipulate the data on some objects, however these objects don't have properties, they have fields. Thus a property grid doesn't display them (high five MS!) Before anyone posts "just use properties": I can't at the moment.. these objects are DTOs and are used to send data to a VB6 Interop dll, thus all the parameters for the method calls are "ref" parameters (high five MS!), and C# won't compile if you use a property instead of a field or variable (high five MS!). No, I am not going to create local variables for every property on any given object. There many, many fields, and many, many test cases that would need updating, as well as the production code it self, and this post/question may be the path of least resistance. :)

• What theoretical and/or experimental programming-language features are there?

  I'm designing a programming language, purely for fun, and want to add as many experimental features as I can, just to make programming in it something completely different, and that not in a bad way like Brainf*ck or Malbolge. However, I seem to be quite bad at coming up with new things for it but I'm sure that there are tons of things out there that have been talked about but never really tried out. What experimental language features or concepts not implemented in mainstream languages are there at the moment? E.g: If I asked this in, let's say, 1960, an answer could be "Object-oriented programming". I'm sure that there are a lot of unimplemented ideas computer-scientists have (recently) come up with, at least I was told so.

• How can I use different metadata for a Dynamic Data form view and the list view?

  We often need a summarised list view with more detailed form view. So far, the only two way I can think of doing this are using a 'custom' list or form view than uses a sumplimentary 'remove' or 'add' list of fields anb generalise this over all entity sets, or create a custom metadata provider that infers somehow which columns to supply. Are there any other ways of distinguishing these two views? PS, I wrote a fun little general details page, that handles insert, edit, and view, all on one page template. Maybe I could somehow use that? It's here.

  I don't understand what this explain statement is saying. Which field needs an index?. The first line to me is confusing because ref is null. • How does Maven find a Artifact in a remote repository?

  I'm trying to create a maven plugin to generate a file with the URL to all the dependencies in a project. I have been able to get the dependencies and their artifact, but I'm having trouble getting the download URL. Using ArtifactResolver and ArticateMetadataSource I get some of the artifact information. However I fail to get all the information for all the dependencies. I haven't been able to find documentation on the resolution logic, so that I can call it form my plugin. I can use an ArtifactResolver to download the artifact, but what I really wanted was just the URL. The Maven Artifact API has a a method called getDownloadURL (see http://maven.apache.org/ref/2.0.4/maven-artifact/apidocs/org/apache/maven/artifact/Artifact.html). However I cant seem to find a way to get a real value into it. I always get a null value. Is there a way to have it resolved (downloading or not) and get the URL for where the file came from?

• Relogging a user in with different Spring Security Authorities programmatically

  PreReq: User logs in and is given roles got from the database using a custom implementation of userService. i.e. authentication-provider user-service-ref="securityPolicyService" The implemented method loadUserByUsername gets called and the roles are load for the user for the particular club they are logging into, Default one is loaded first time in. The user then click on a different club from the UI and I call a method on a service that gets the new list of authorities for this club. I then perform the following: Object principle = SecurityContextHolder.getContext().getAuthentication().getPrincipal(); SecureMember sm = (SecureMember) principle; Authentication auth = new UsernamePasswordAuthenticationToken(sm, null, newAuthories); <br><br> SecurityContextHolder.getContext().setAuthentication(auth);<br> request.getSession(false).invalidate(); SecureMember extends User from SpringFramework. • Teaching a kid to type in order to start programming

  My 5 year old wants to start programming, but he doesn't yet know how to type without looking for each letter 1 at a time. I know it's going to frustrate him to go so slow because of his typing speed. And it's not going to be fun looking for all the letters constantly... So what's the best way to get him to type fast? Clearly he'll need to type a lot of punctuation like semicolons, colons and symbols. So his little hands will have to get used to spreading over the keyboard... I did some google searches and found some very poor looking apps that focused on the letters.

• R problem with apply + rbind

  I cannot seem to get the following to work directory <- "./" files.15x16 <- c("15x16-70d.out", "15x16-71d.out") data.15x16<-rbind( lapply( as.array(paste(directory, files.15x16, sep="")), FUN=read.csv, sep=" ", header=F) ) What it should be doing is pretty straightforward - I have a directory name, some file names, and actual files of data. I paste the directory and file names together, read the data from the files in, and then rbind them all together into a single chunk of data. Except the result of the lapply has the data in [[]] - i.e., accessing it occurs via a[[1]], a[[2]], etc which rbind doesn't seem to accept. Suggestions?

• Named keywords in decorators?

  I've been playing around in depth with attempting to write my own version of a memoizing decorator before I go looking at other people's code. It's more of an exercise in fun, honestly. However, in the course of playing around I've found I can't do something I want with decorators. def addValue( func, val ): def add( x ): return func( x ) + val return add @addValue( val=4 ) def computeSomething( x ): #function gets defined If I want to do that I have to do this: def addTwo( func ): return addValue( func, 2 ) @addTwo def computeSomething( x ): #function gets defined Why can't I use keyword arguments with decorators in this manner? What am I doing wrong and can you show me how I should be doing it?

• Custom configuration file custom_config.js not working?

  Hello gals/guys, I am trying to use a custom configuration file instead of the default config.js file in the ckeditor root. I have placed a renamed copy of the config.js file in my webroot and call it with customConfig. It is not working for me though. Is my syntax creating any issues?   How do I pass a function pointer from managed C++ (C++/CLI) to an unmanaged method? I read a few articles, like this one from MSDN, but it describes two different assemblies, while I want only one. • Using reshape + cast to aggregate over multiple columns

  In R, I have a data frame with columns for Seat (factor), Party (factor) and Votes (numeric). I want to create a summary data frame with columns for Seat, Winning party, and Vote share. For example, from the data frame df <- data.frame(party=rep(c('Lab','C','LD'),times=4), votes=c(1,12,2,11,3,10,4,9,5,8,6,15), seat=rep(c('A','B','C','D'),each=3)) I want to get the output seat winner voteshare 1 A C 0.8000000 2 B Lab 0.4583333 3 C C 0.5000000 4 D LD 0.5172414 I can figure out how to achieve this. But I'm sure there must be a better way, probably a cunning one-liner using Hadley Wickham's reshape package. Any suggestions? For what it's worth, my solution uses a function from my package djwutils_2.10.zip and is invoked as follows. But there are all sorts of special cases it doesn't deal with, so I'd rather rely on someone else's code. aggregateList(df, by=list(seat=seat), FUN=list(winner=function(x) x$party[which.max(x$votes)], voteshare=function(x) max(x$votes)/sum(x$votes)))

• What are the other new features of C# 4.0, after dynamic and optional parameters?

  So, C# 4.0 came out yesterday. It introduced the much-debated dynamic keyword, named and optional parameters. Smaller improvements were the implicit ref and recognizing of indexed and default properties on COM methods, contra- and co-variance (really a .NET CLR feature, not C# only) and... Is that really it? Are dynamic and optional/named params the only real improvements to C#? Or did I miss something? Not that I'm complaining, but it seems a bit meager after C# 2.0 (generics) and C# 3.0 (lambda, LINQ). Maybe the language just reached actual maturity?

• Resources/Teaching ideas to teach computers to kids

  A small initiative from my work place plans to teach very basic computers to not so fortunate kids. I was looking for some very basic topics/resources. These kids are very young and have not seen/worked with a computer before. The fun factor should not be lost and hence I don't want it to be rigorous, just plain, what is computer, keyboard, mouse, browser, where to look for what (google.com) and so on. Has any-one done this sort of thing before, if yes, could you point me to some resources.

I read about C# and the ability to compile -and execute- code in runtime, but that is too hurting.. I am also thinking about assembly... it is easier there to change running code but it is not very powerful... • How to configure Spring-DM OSGi service for new instance per call?

  I'm starting to delve into using Spring DM and OSGi services in an RCP application. I've created a service which is used by another bundle in the RCP application. It does a lookup of the service via calls to getBundleContext().getServiceReference() using the explicit bundle names and service class names. I'm not using DI anywhere yet. The issue I'm running into is that the service that is returned in the requesting bundle is a singleton. At times I notice a threading issue since it is a "stateful" service. How do I configure the application to get back a new service instance with each call? • How to suppress javascript errors for sites I'm not developing?

  I like to keep javascript debugging enabled in my browser so when I'm developing my own code I can instantly see when I've made an error. Of course this means I see errors on apple.com, microsoft.com, stackoverflow.com, cnn.com, facebook.com. Its quite fun sometimes to see just how much awful code there is out there being run by major sites but sometimes it gets really annoyed. I've wondered for YEARS how to change this but never really got around to it. Its particularly annoying today and I'd really like to know of any solutions. The only solution I have is : use a different browser for everyday browsing. I'm hopin theres some quick and easy plugin someone can direct me to where I can toggle it on and off based upon the domain i'm on. Edit: I generally use IE7 for everyday browsing

I assume that it's what it's for, right? My guess is that if anyone would want to write such a constructor, he would have to add some more code that copies the attributes of the first object to the one about to be created.

But I'm using these commands from Maven and anyone who'd used Maven before, knows how much things like external commands bloat the POM.   Now if that isn't a weird question, I don't know what is. But here is the problem: I have a function in my "onSelect" option that has to collect some data (through AJAX) and I have a function in my "onComplete" option that processes the just uploaded files based on the data "onSelect" collected. However, with very small files, the "onSelect" hasn't finished yet before the upload is complete and the "onComplete" fails because it lacks the necessary data. Bigger files work just fine. So, I'm looking for a way to stall the upload of the file. To let it start only after the function in onSelect completed fetching the necessary data. Any ideas?   I have no code to start with. I want to add 2 divs overlapping on each other and then use the new CSS3 Rotate function. The effect I want to create is shown on this page Requirements I don't want to use images I don't mind using CSS3 It should be easy to align the whole thing in the center (which makes it harder to use position: absolute;). It's going to be content below the boxed content (which makes it harder to use position: absolute;). If it's possible without too much position: absolute; it's better. I prefer table free solutions. • Django: How/Where to store a value for a session without unnecessary DB hits

  Hi all, I have an extended userprofile with AUTH_PROFILE_MODULE (ref: http://tinyurl.com/yhracqq) I would like to set a user.is_guru() method similar to user.is_active(). This would results for al views (or rather templates) to e.g. disable/enable certain user messages, displaying of widgets, etc. The boolean is stored in the extended user profile model, but I want to avoid hitting the DB for every view. So the questions is .. Do I use a context_processor, a template tag, session_dict or what have you to, possible cached, store this info for the duration of the users visit. Note: I dont have performance issues, so it's definitely filed under premature optimization. I just want to avoid generating extra work in the future :). Any pointers are very welcome. • How do I hook into a game and write a script to manipulate it?

  Hey SO, I know this is a pretty open question but I was wondering how people go about writing scripts that will "play" a game, or manipulate it in some way. I had been thinking that I'd try to get a working AI to play a game for fun, but don't even really know where to start. Are there any good resources to learn this? What are good languages to use? Once I have the language, how do I get my script hooked into the game? I was thinking of just trying simple flash games, if that helps. Thanks a bunch!
