  • What's the best way to run Wordpress on the same domain as a Rails application?

    I've got a standard Rails app with Nginx and Mongrel running at http://mydomain. I need to run a Wordpress blog at http://mydomain.com/blog. My preference would be to host the blog in Apache running on either the same server or a separate box but I don't want the user to see a different server in the URL. Is that possible and if not, what would you recommend to accomplish the goal?

    I understand how to create a vanity URL in Rails in order to translate http://mysite.com/forum/1 into http://mysite.com/some-forum-name But I'd like to take it a step further and get the following working (if it is possible at all): Instead of: http://mysite.com/forum/1/board/99/thread/321 I'd like in the first step to get to something like this: http://mysite.com/1/99/321 and ultimately have it like http://mysite.com/some-forum-name/some-board-name/this-is-the-thread-subject. Is this possible?

  • Is it possible to route heroku-rails-app to a subdirectory of my custom domain?

    I want to setup a rails app on heroku that is part of a website. The website which is hosted on a different server explains the usage of the app, shows a tour, plans, contains a blog on related stuff and so on. I want to route to my_domain/app and the app should respond to that url. The custom_domain add-on doesnt allow to enter directories. How can I configure that or how would you realize that scenario?

  • Rails 3 beta 3 -- is it time to start using this for new projects?

I'm nervous about using beta versions but at the same time I really like what they are doing and don't want to deal with legacy 2.3.5 issues with these apps.     I am trying to document the API for my Rails application and I can't help but wonder if there is a better way to generate an XML file based on my routes.rb file. I'm envisioning something similar to the output of rake routes but in a more friendly, XML type format. Corey has some interesting ideas about using reflection/introspection on the routes file here but it's not quite what I need. Please tell me this is a solved problem and I'm not the first one to think of this. :)

    I saw that on so many blogs. Lots of the people that were dealing with ASP.NET tend to play with Ruby on Rails after working hours. And It is just a matter of last one or two years. Why is it like that? Is it because when ASP.NET MVC showed up people become more open-minded - having joy with programming again they realize that some other folks had that many years ago, and they do not want to miss what they currently have?

How can I move it out of the view and still maintain the same structure, or do I need to just rewrite the JS from scratch?

  • how do i load a csv file in rails from a migrate usiing load data local infile ?

    Hi All, I have my csv file in my public folder, and i'm trying to load it from a migration, but I get a file not found error using this script : ActiveRecord::Base.connection.execute( "load data local infile '#{RAILS_ROOT}/public/muds_variables.csv' into table muds_variables " + "fields terminated by ',' " + "lines terminated by '\n' " + "(variable_name, definition)") I've checked and re-checked the file path, and that's definitely where it lives, I've also tried it just using the file name without any of the path, and a few other combos, but I can't make it work :(. can anyone help me out with this? here's the error : Mysql::Error: File '/home/chris/rails_projects/muds/public/muds_variables.csv' not found (Errcode: 2): load data local infile '/home/chris/rails_projects/muds/public/muds_variables.csv' into table muds_variables fields terminated by ',' lines terminated by ' ' (variable_name, definition) -C

  • Rails: Cannot add :precision or :scale options with change_column in a migration?

    This seems to have been asked before: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1402547/rails-decimal-precision-and-scale But when running a change_column migration for :precision or :scale they don't actually affect the schema or database, but db:migrate runs without errors. My migration file looks like this: class ChangePrecisionAndScaleOfPaybackPeriodInTags < ActiveRecord::Migration def self.up change_column :tags, :payback_period, :decimal, { :scale => 3, :precision => 10 } end def self.down change_column :tags, :payback_period, :decimal end end But my schema (and the data) remains as: t.decimal "rate" # previous column t.decimal "payback_period" t.string "component_type" # next column Anybody else have this issue?   • Surgical slave reads for Ruby on Rails, mulitple databases.

    Greetings, I'm currently working on a multiple database rails application. I want to off load the SELECT queries on to the slave databases for only SOME of the databases or specific models. The issue is that in places, we swap out the current database connection and put in a different one for a short time; to load fixtures or to handle sharding. Does anyone have any recommendations on a ruby gem that 1. will split select/(sql writes) with a considerable amount of control. We want to handle just some models and we are looking for a neat surgical fix. 2. does not monkey around with activerecord. 3. is still being maintained. TIA -daniel

XXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXXXX end end Where the XXXX are, how can I get the note.content of the item about to be saved (i'm assuming it hasn't been saved yet to the DB? Is that correct? Also, how can I get the note.content of the save before the current save in progress? Thanks

    Clients have many Invoices. Invoices have a number attribute that I want to initialize by incrementing the client's previous invoice number. For example: @client = Client.find(1) @client.last_invoice_number > 14 @invoice = @client.invoices.build @invoice.number > 15 I want to get this functionality into my Invoice model, but I'm not sure how to. Here's what I'm imagining the code to be like: class Invoice < ActiveRecord::Base ... def initialize(attributes = {}) client = Client.find(attributes[:client_id]) attributes[:number] = client.last_invoice_number + 1 client.update_attributes(:last_invoice_number => client.last_invoice_number + 1) end end However, attributes[:client_id] isn't set when I call @client.invoices.build. How and when is the invoice's client_id initialized, and when can I use it to initialize the invoice's number? Can I get this logic into the model, or will I have to put it in the controller?
