• Where to start with C#

  Hello fellow programmers. Im a pretty experienced programmer in PHP and mainly web languages but today i have decided i want to start to learn a new language! Im only 21 and I feel as I will never make it in the programming industry without a great set of languages under my belt, So i decided to have a look at C#. The reason I have chosen C# is because some C programmers have told me that C# is the best language to learn for desktop applications. I think i need to get started with the Syntax / Structure of C#, What Development Environment to use, and other things that i might face along my new journey. I hope somebody can guide me Thanks.

• mod_wsgi daemon mode vs threaded fastcgi

  Can someone explain the difference between apache mod_wsgi in daemon mode and django fastcgi in threaded mode. They both use threads for concurrency I think. Supposing that I'm using nginx as front end to apache mod_wsgi. UPDATE: I'm comparing django built in fastcgi(./manage.py method=threaded maxchildren=15) and mod_wsgi in 'daemon' mode(WSGIDaemonProcess example threads=15). They both use threads and acquire GIL, am I right?

• EF exception: Could not find file CodeGenerationSchema.xsd

  I'm using Entity Framework for a new project (VS 2008, .net 3.5 sp1) and "reasonably happy" with it, especially compared to dataset-based solutions. One of recurring annoyances is "Could not find file CodeGenerationSchema.xsd" exception during application startup. Exception seems to re-appear rather frequently after changes to the model. Googling gives temporary and strange workarounds for this error: Delete .suo file, or Set Options Debugging General Enable Just My Code = On May be someone have more permanent, straightforward fix or can explain the reason of this issue.

  arr = [[NSMutableArray alloc]init]; [arr addObject:[NSNumber numberWithInt:4]]; [arr addObject:[NSNumber numberWithInt:45]]; [arr addObject:[NSNumber numberWithInt:23]]; [arr addObject:[NSNumber numberWithInt:12]]; NSLog(@"The avg = %@", [arr valueForKeyPath:@"@avg.intValue"]); This code works fine, but why? valueForKeyPath:@"@avg.intValue" is requesting (int) from each NSNumber, but we are outputting a %@ string in the log. If i try to output a decimal %d i get a number that possibly is a pointer to something. Can somebody explain why the integers become NSNumbers when i call the @avg operator?

I haven't found a baked equivalent of git svn for ClearCase. Is there anybody who has tried to use git locally as a front-end to ClearCase using some tricks, configuration or scripting with any measure of success? If so can you please explain the method used?

  From the documentation: os.path.realpath(path) Return the canonical path of the specified filename, eliminating any symbolic links encountered in the path (if they are supported by the operating system). When I invoke this with an extant file's name, I get the path to it: /home/myhome/myproject. When I invoke this with a 'nonsense.xxx' string argument, I still get a path to /home/myhome/myproject/nonsense.xxx. This is a little inconsistent because it looks like nonsense.xxx is taken to be a directory not a file (though it is neither: it does not exist). When I invoke this with a null string file name, I still get a path to /home/myhome/myproject. How can I account for this behaviour when the documentation says so little about realpath()? (I am using Python 2.5.) Edit: Somebody suggested a way to test if files exist. My concern is not to test if files exist. My concern is to account for behaviour.

• CKeditor 3.0 - How to know which toolbar button is clicked

  Hi, I want to update few variables when any of the toolbar button (like bold, italic etc) is clicked. I'm unable to trap 'click' event on any of these buttons. Could somebody give me an example when clicking on 'bold' button would also pop up an alert box? How can I trap 'paste' event?   When trying to inline a function in Visual C++ (2008 express), I got a linking error, after a close inspection of the code, what I discover is that the function I am trying to inline throws an exception... if I remove the exception throwing, the linking error goes away, can someone explain why it is the case?

  Hey, I stumbled upon a problem of how to mix both acts_as_taggable (on steroids) and will_paginate gems.   I've been using xtable package for a long time, and looking forward to writting my first package in R... so I reckon that if I have some "cool" idea that's worth carying out, there's a great chance that somebody got there before me... =) I'm interested in functions/packages specialized for LaTeX table creation (through R, of course). I bumped on quantreg package which has latex.table function. Any suggestion for similar function(s)/package(s)? P.S. I'm thinking about building a webapp in which users can define their own presets/templates of tables, choose style, statistics, etc. It's an early thought, though... =)

• Formatting when copying SQL data and pasting in Excel

  I want to copy a sql result set and paste it in Excel. But the data I paste in to the spreadsheet doesn't want to recognize Excel formatting. So if I change a column to currency, it doesn't do anything. But...if I double click on a cell, THEN it applies the currency format. But only to that cell. How can I make it automatically recognize the Excel format? I must be something I'm missing. Hopefully somebody can help. :-)

  Hi, I need to edit a Flash movie that somebody else developed in Adobe Flash CS3 on a Mac. I'm using Adobe Flash CS4 on Windows (Vista). However, the font that shows up on my computer is much bigger than on the .SWF that he produced. He used a custom font, which I had to add to my system Fonts folder. Because Adobe Flash detected the right fonts on my computer, it didn't map them to substitute fonts. I verified that Flash is indeed using the same font files that he used. I believe the fonts are being rendered differently because I'm using Windows. How do I fix this?

  Hi, I have an ASP.Net site, in which I am using a ListView with a Datapager. Apparently there is a bug with the Datapager, where it crashes if there is an empty ampersand (&) in the querystring. This is a known issue: https://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/ViewFeedback.aspx?FeedbackID=357344&wa=wsignin1.0#tabs I see that there is a workaround given, but did not understand how to implement it. • Good excuses NOT to use version control

  This question may seem backwards to all logical reasoning, but I encountered a team member who was working on a side project out of the main tree, and had decided ( rephrased ) I'm the only developer, we don't need version control, that's stupid Now personally, the idea horrifies me, and I can't for one justify it. So now my stance is clear, I want some legitimate answers why somebody can excuse themselves from using version control. The default answers will of course be "there is no excuse". Not what I want to see. If you can't see an excuse, then just don't post. ( Feel free to downmod excuses others post that are illegitimate/bad and give reasoning )
