• Ubuntu 11.10 Random reboots how to find root cause?

  All, This issue started with 11.04, I upgraded to 11.10 this week in hopes it would correct it, but after a few days it happened again.. A few times a day, randomly, my monitors will go black and the machine will come back in the post screen and boot up again. Sometimes it boots up properly, sometimes it boots to disk scan (I understand why...the machine just died with a bunch of stuff open) and sometimes it takes several cycles of this to come up. I connected to the system with my laptop and tailed dmesg, syslog, kern.log, and Xorg.0.log. I also ran a cat /proc/kmesg. Nothing is showing up in any of these log files when it happens..it's just like someone has pulled the plug. I just got through running 4 hours of the memory test with no errors. I have a AMD Phenom 9850 Quad-Core Processor and Nvida 9500GT graphics card. This system has been stable for like 4 years. I'm thinking it might be a hardware problem, but how do I find out? Thanks,

  I have transaction log backup failures randomly. SQL Server Log says 'Memory constraints resulted reduced backup/restore buffer sizes. Proceding with 6 buffers of size 64KB.', and the SQL Server Agent Error Log has quite a few errors like 'Unable to start Job Manager thread for job xxx', '[298] SQLServer Error: 768, Client unable to establish connection [SQLSTATE 08001]', [298] SQLServer Error: 768, SSL Provider: Not enough memory is available to complete this request [SQLSTATE 08001]'. I am really low on the memory? It has total of 32 GB, but I set maximum to 20. Task manager shows it is using 99% of physical memory. Memoryclerk-sqlbufferpool has 32GB for the Virtual Memory Reserved, and 20 GB for the Virtual Memory Committed. From the perfmon, SQLServer:Memory Manager/Total ServerMemory shows 21GB of memory in use, that's what I set the maximum to. I don't where the rest of memory go. Can anyone advice? • Apache2 VirtualHost Configuration with SSL

  Hello! I'm new here and I have a strange problem which needs to be solved. Previously I searched in the whole forum and I've read all of related questions but I didn't find solution to my question. We have two servers and a firewall computer. On the Server#1 there is an Apache 2.2 web server and it forwards the incoming traffic to the appropriate ports, to our subdomains by its virtual host configuration (Apache, Tomcat, IIS, Server#2 and so on). We recently bought an SSL certificate to protect one of our subdomain. I successfully installed and configured the certificate into the Apache and it works flawlessly within our local network. Our Kerio Winroute Firewall is configured to permit https traffic and it is translated to Server#1. But all of our subdomains are unavailable from outside (http & https too). Web browser shows "Failed to connect" message. • AppDomain dependencies across directories

  I am creating a plugin system and I am creating one AppDomain per plugin. Each plugin has its own directory with its main assemblies and references. The main assemblies will be loaded by my plugin loader, in addition to my interface assemblies (so the plugin can interact with the application). Creating the AppDomain: this.appDomain = AppDomain.CreateDomain("AppDomain", null, new AppDomainSetup { ApplicationBase = pluginPath, PrivateBinPath = pluginPath, }); Loading the assemblies: this.appDomain.Load(myInterfaceAssembly.GetName(true)); var assemblies = new List<Assembly>(); foreach (var assemblyName in this.assemblyNames) { assemblies.Add(this.appDomain.Load(assemblyName)); } The format of assemblyName is the assembly's filename without ".dll". The problem is that AppDomain.Load(assemblyName) throws an exception: Could not load file or assembly '[[assemblyName]], Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. All of the dependencies of [[assemblyName]] are: Inside the directory pluginPath, The myInterfaceAssembly which is already loaded, or In the GAC (e.g. mscorelib). Clearly I'm not doing something right. I have tried: Creating an object using this.appDomain.CreateInstanceAndUnwrap inheriting from MarshalByRefObject with a LoadAssembly method to load the assembly. I get an exception saying that the current assembly (containing the proxy class) could not be loaded (file not found, as above), even if I manually call this.appDomain.Load(Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly().GetName(true)). Attaching an AssemblyResolve handler to this.appDomain. I'm met with the same exception as in (1), and manually loading doesn't help. Recursively loading assemblies by loading their dependencies into this.appDomain first.   Hi, I'm doing an eshop with goods displayed as "tiles" in grid as usual. I just want to use various sizes of tiles and make sure (via jQuery) there are no free spaces. In basic situation, I have a 960px wrapper and want to use 240x180px (class .grid_4) tiles and 480x360px (class .grid_8) tiles. Also small tiles to the left from the big one need to be wrapped in another div so that they appear in column rather than row. Now finally the questions: how to generalize the function so that I can use even more tile dimensions like 720x360 (3x2), 480x540 (2x3), etc.? is there a way to simplify the function? I need to make sure that big tile counts as a multiple of small tiles when checking the actual position. Because using index() on the tile on position 12 (last tile in 3rd row) would now return 7 (position 8) because tiles on positions 5 and 9 are wrapped together in one culumn and the big tile is also just a single div, but spans 2x2 positions. any clean way to ensure this? • Get the touch position inside the imageview in android

  I have a imageview in my activity and I am able to get the position where the user touch the imageview, through onTouchListener. I placed another image where the user touch over that image. I need to store the touch position(x,y), and use it in another activity, to show the tags. I stored the touch position in the first activity. In the first activity, my imageview at the top of the screen. In the second activity its at the bottom of the screen. If I use the position stored from the first acitvity, it place the tag image at the top, not on the imageview, where I previously clicked in the first activity. Is there anyway to get the position inside the imageview. • auth.getSession not working

  hi all, i am having troubles with calling auth.getSession in my proxy. It is being called from a iPhone connect client. When the proxy URL is invocated from the iphone, FB returns a 100 invalid parameter error to the proxy. However the 2nd attempt from iPhone yields success. Both times the proxy is doing the same code, only the auth_token is different. Doing a good search, shows that this is a problematic method. I have tried everything in code and even called in a iPhone expert to see if the problem is on the iPhone client. I have concentrated my efforts on the java api being the problem, however i believe the problem lies else where. • jQuery e.stopPropagation() - how to use without breaking dropbox functionality altogether?

  Short story: stopPropagation() prevents a dropdown menu from closing - which is good. But it also prevents the dropbox from opening next time around - which is bad. So I've tried with the e.stopPropagation(), which does indeed prevent the dropdown from closing. Then, when I press enter in the searchbox, I'm closing the dropdown with a .toggle() - also seems to work fine. The PROBLEM arises when I want to to it all again, because the e.stopPropagation() has now disabled the dropdown alltogether - ie. when I press the dropdown menu, it doesn't open anymore! • Weird vps server issue

  I have an unmanaged linux vps Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot). I have LNMP installed. Also php-fpm php-apc, varnish, memcache. I have (or rather had) several live sites on it. under normal load the server uses ~700 mb memory. But since last night its using only 20mb~ memory and a lot of the services seems to be down (according to htop) I only see nginx working and mysql starts up and goes does every few minutes on a loop. • Windows could not start Apache 2 on the local computer

  After installing PHP 5.3, Windows is unable to start Apache 2.2. Apache's error log is empty, no error message on startup: C:\Programme\Apache\bin>httpd -k start C:\Programme\Apache\bin>httpd -k stop The Apache2.2 service is not started. C:\Programme\Apache\bin>httpd -k config Reconfiguring the Apache2.2 service The Apache2.2 service is successfully installed. Testing httpd.conf.... Errors reported here must be corrected before the service can be started. I have no clue where to look for the cause. php5apache2_2.dll is copied to the Apache modules folder. • Apache, Nginx, WSGI, django cookies get lost.

  I'm running into a problem trying to get a Django application running in my staging environment. I'm running nginx as a reverse proxy with Apache 2.2/mod_wsgi as the target, and my Django app behind that. The problem is that the cookies are getting lost somewhere between nginx and Apache. My nginx.conf (ripped out a few locations to keep it small): http { gzip on; proxy_set_header Host $host; proxy_set_header X-Real-IP $remote_addr; proxy_set_header X-Forwarded-For $proxy_add_x_forwarded_for; proxy_pass_header Set-Cookie; upstream django { server 127.0.0.1:8080; } server { listen 80; server_name encendio.iigins.com; location / { proxy_pass http://django; } } } My Apache vhosts file: <VirtualHost *:8080> ServerName encendio.test.com ServerAdmin [email protected] DocumentRoot "/usr/local/www/apache22/data" WSGIScriptAlias / /usr/local/www/apache22/data/sasquatch/wsgi_handler.py </VirtualHost> If I directly to http://encendio.test.com:8080/ the cookies work and I can log into the admin area. If I log into http://encendio.test.com/, the admin area tells me my browser isn't using cookies. Now things get kind of weird. So Apache is getting the cookie in some form, but it's not ending up where Django can see it. I'm at my wit's end for why this isn't working, so any help is greatly appreciated. Ninja Edit: I forgot to mention that Firefox is seeing the cookies. The oddity is that every time I attempt to log in, I get a new sessionid.

• Android: Using onStart() method in Bluetooth application

  Hello, I am getting a nullpointer exception when my onStart() method is called. Here is the breakdown of my Android app: Opening the app brings a user to the homescreen: The user is then presented with the first 6 icons to choose from. When the user presses the "Sugar" icon it takes them to the SugarTabActivity. The SugarTabActivity is a Tabbed layout with two tabs. I'm concerned with the first tab. The first tab calls the getDefaultAdapter() method in its onCreate() method. Once it calls this, it checks if the bluetooth adapter is null on the phone, and if its null it shows a toast saying "Bluetooth is not available". This works just fine. Then I call the onStart() method. In the onStart() method I check if bluetooth is enabled, and if it isnt, then I start a new activity from the BluetoothAdapter enable bluetooth intent; otherwise, I start my bluetooth service. So I followed this link (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/174430/log4net-could-not-find-schema-information-messages) and configured my settings in a separate xml file and added the following line of code in my AssemblyInfo.cs: [assembly: log4net.Config.XmlConfigurator(ConfigFile = "xmlfile.xml", Watch = true)] And in the actual code, I placed this line: public void CreateUser(String username, String password) { try { log.Info("Inside createuser"); //code for creating user } catch(exception e) { log.Info("something happened in create user", e); } } The problem is that the log file is not being created. • JSON Post To Rails From Android

  I'm currently working on an android app that interfaces with a Ruby on Rails app through XML and JSON. I can currently pull all my posts from my website through XML but I can't seem to post via JSON. My app currently builds a JSON object from a form that looks a little something like this: { "post": { "other_param": "1", "post_content": "Blah blah blah" } } On my server I believe the Create method in my Posts Controller is set up correctly: def create @post = current_user.posts.build(params[:post]) respond_to do |format| if @post.save format.html { redirect_to @post, notice: 'Post was successfully created.' } format.json { render json: @post, status: :created, location: @post } format.xml { render xml: @post, status: :created, location: @post } else format.html { render action: "new" } format.json { render json: @post.errors, status: :unprocessable_entity } format.xml { render xml: @post.errors, status: :unprocessable_entity } end end end And in my android app I have a method that takes that JSON Object I posted earlier as a parameter along with the username and password for being authenticated (Authentication is working I've tested it, and yes Simple HTTP authentication is probably not the best choice but its a quick and dirty fix) and it then sends the JSON Object through HTTP POST to the rails server. Is my JSON still formatted wrong, does there really need to be that holder around the other data? Or do I need to use something other than HTTP POST? Or is this just something on the Rails end? A route or controller that isn't right? I'd be really grateful if someone could point me in the right direction, because I don't know where to go from here.

  I am trying to write a function to post form data and save returned cookie info in a file so that the next time the page is visited, the cookie information is sent to the server (i.e. normal browser behavior). I wrote this relatively easily in C++ using curlib, but have spent almost an entire day trying to write this in Python, using urllib2 - and still no success. • Prototype JS swallows errors in dom:loaded, and ajax callbacks?

  I can't figure out why prototype suppressess the error messages in the dom:loaded event, and in AJAX handlers. If you move the console.log(idontexist); line out of the handler, you get the idontexist is not defined error in the console. I find it a little weird, that in other event handlers, like 'click', you get the error message, it seems that it's only the dom:loaded that has this problem. The same goes for AJAX handlers: new Ajax.Request('/', { method: 'get', onComplete: function(r) { console.log('xhr complete'); alert(youwontseeme); } }); You won't see any errors. This is with prototype.js 1.6.1, and I can't find any indication of this behavior in the docs, nor a way to enable error reporting in these handlers. I have tried stepping through the code with FireBug's debugger, and it seems to jump to a function on line 53 named K, when it encounters the missing variable in the dom:loaded handler: K: function(x) { return x } But how? Why? When? I can't see any try/catch block there, how does the program flow end up there? I know that I can make the errors visible by packing my dom:ready handler(s) in try/catch blocks, but that's not a very comfortable option. Same goes for registering a global onException handler for the AJAX calls. Why does it even suppress the errors? Did someone encounter this before?

  Hi all I might be looking at this the wrong way, but I have a form that does its thing (sends emails etc etc) but I also put in some code to make a simple flatfile csv log with some of the user entered details. If a user accidentally puts in for instance 'himynameis","bob' this would either break the csv row (because the quotes weren't encapsulated) or if I use htmlspecialchars() and stripslashes() on the data, I end up with a ugly data value of 'himynameis&quot;,&quot;bob'. • Write STDOUT & STDERR to a logfile, also write STDERR to screen

  I would like to run several commands, and capture all output to a logfile. I also want to print any errors to the screen (or optionally mail the output to someone). Here's an example. The following command will run three commands, and will write all output (STDOUT and STDERR) into a single logfile. { command1 && command2 && command3 ; } > logfile.log 2>&1 Here is what I want to do with the output of these commands: STDERR and STDOUT for all commands goes to a logfile, in case I need it later--- I usually won't look in here unless there are problems. Print STDERR to the screen (or optionally, pipe to /bin/mail), so that any error stands out and doesn't get ignored. It would be nice if the return codes were still usable, so that I could do some error handling. Maybe I want to send email if there was an error, like this: { command1 && command2 && command3 ; } logfile.log 2&1 || mailx -s "There was an error" [email protected] The problem I run into is that STDERR loses context during I/O redirection. A '2&1' will convert STDERR into STDOUT, and therefore I cannot view errors if I do 2 error.log Here are a couple juicier examples. Let's pretend that I am running some familiar build commands, but I don't want the entire build to stop just because of one error so I use the '--keep-going' flag. { ./configure && make --keep-going && make install ; } > build.log 2>&1 Or, here's a simple (And perhaps sloppy) build and deploy script, which will keep going in the event of an error. { ./configure && make --keep-going && make install && rsync -av --keep-going /foo devhost:/foo} > build-and-deploy.log 2>&1 I think what I want involves some sort of Bash I/O Redirection, but I can't figure this out.

• Android: handle unexpected internet disconnect while downloading data

  Hi, I have here a function that downloads data from a remote server to file. I am still not confident with my code. My question is, what if while reading the stream and saving the data to a file and suddenly I was disconnected in the internet, will these catch exceptions below can really catch that kind of incident? If not, can you suggest how to handle this kind of incident? • Zend database query result converts column values to null

  Hi again. I am using the next instructions to get some registers from my Database. Create the needed models (from the params module): $obj_paramtype_model = new Params_Model_DbTable_Paramtype(); $obj_param_model = new Params_Model_DbTable_Param(); Getting the available locales from the database // This returns a Zend_Db_Table_Row_Abstract class object $obj_paramtype = $obj_paramtype_model->getParamtypeByValue('available_locales'); // This is a query used to add conditions to the next sentence. This is executed from the Params_Model_DbTable_Param instance class, that depends from Params_Model_DbTable_Paramtype class (reference map and dependentTables arrays are fine in both classes) $obj_select = $this->select()->where('deleted_at IS NULL')->order('name'); // Execute the next query, applying the select restrictions. This returns a Zend_Db_Table_Rowset_Abstract class object. Zend_Registry::get('log')->debug($obj_params_rowset); I have a profiler for all my DB executions from Zend. At this point the log and profiler objects (that includes Firebug writers), shows the executed SQL Queries, and the last line displays the resulting Zend_Db_Table_Rowset_Abstract class object. If I execute the SQL Queries in some MySQL Client, the results are as expected. But the Zend Firebug log writer displays as NULL the column values with latin characters (ñ). In other words, the external SQL client shows es_CO | Español de Colombia and en_US | English of United States but the Query results from Zend displays (and returns) es_CO | null and en_US | English of United States. I've deleted the ñ character from Español de Colombia and the query results are just fine in my Zend Log Firebug screen, and in the final Zend Form element. The MySQL database, tables and columns are in UTF-8 - utf8_unicode_ci collation. All my zend framework pages are in UTF-8 charset. I'm using XAMPP 1.7.1 (PHP 5.2.9, Apache at port 90 and MySQL 5.1.33-community) running on Windows 7 Ultimate; Zend Framework 1.10.1. I'm sorry if there is so much information, but I don't really know why could that happen, so I tryed to provide as much related information as I could to help to find some answer.
