  • In Eclipse, how do I change the default modifiers in the class/type template?

    - by gustafc
Eclipse's default template for new types (Window Preferences Code Style Code Templates New Java Files) looks like this: ${filecomment} ${package_declaration} ${typecomment} ${type_declaration} Creating a new class, it'll look something like this: package pkg; import blah.blah; public class FileName { // Class is accessible to everyone, and can be inherited } Now, I'm fervent in my belief that access should be as restricted as possible, and inheritance should be forbidden unless explicitly permitted, so I'd like to change the ${type_declaration} to declare all classes as final rather than public: package pkg; import blah.blah; final class FileName { // Class is only accessible in package, and can't be inherited } That seems easier said than done. The only thing I've found googling is a 2004 question on Eclipse's mailing list which was unanswered. So, the question in short: How can I change the default class/type modifiers in Eclipse? I'm using Eclipse Galileo (3.5) if that matters.

  • Is there any tool which can rearrange the css based on same type selector?

    - by metal-gear-solid
    I've big css where selector for same things are on different place. Is there any tool which can rearrange the css based on same type selector? This is just example. #main h2 { font-size: 2em; } #sidebar h3 { font-size: 2em; } #main h1 { font-size: 3em; } #sidebar h4 { font-size: 1.6em; } #main #box h2 { font-size: 2em; } #sidebar ul li { font-size: 1em; } it should arranged like this #main h1 { font-size: 3em; } #main h2 { font-size: 2em; } #main #box h2 { font-size: 2em; } #sidebar h3 { font-size: 2em; } #sidebar h4 { font-size: 1.6em; } #sidebar ul li { font-size: 1em; } if parent selector is same then all should be at same place.

  • Are the atomic builtins provided by gcc actually translated into the example code, or is that just f

    - by Jared P
So I was reading http://gcc.gnu.org/onlinedocs/gcc-4.1.0/gcc/Atomic-Builtins.html, and came across this: type __sync_and_and_fetch (type *ptr, type value, ...) type __sync_xor_and_fetch (type *ptr, type value, ...) type __sync_nand_and_fetch (type *ptr, type value, ...) These builtins perform the operation suggested by the name, and return the new value. That is, { *ptr op= value; return *ptr; } { *ptr = ~*ptr & value; return *ptr; } // nand Is this code literal? or is it just to explain what gcc is doing atomically using c-like syntax? And if this is the direct translation, can someone explain how it is atomic?

  • I serialized a C++ object, how to allocate memory for it without knowing what type it is?

    - by Neo_b
Hello, I have serialized a C++ object and I wish to allocate space for it, although I can't use the "new" operator, because I do not know the object's class. I tried using malloc(sizeof(object)), although trying to typecast the pointer to the type the serialized object is of, the program shut down. Where is the information about the object class stored? class object { public: virtual void somefunc(); int someint; }; class objectchild:public object { } object *o=(object*)malloc(sizeof(objectchild)); cout << int(dynamic_cast<objectchild*>(o)) << endl; This causes a program shutdown. Thank you in advance.

  • Can I have a type that's both, covariant and contravariant, i.e. fully fungible/changeable with sub

    - by Water Cooler v2
Just a stupid question. I could try it out in 2 minutes, really. It's just that I have 1 GB RAM and have already got 2 instances of VS 2010 open on my desktop, with an instance of VS 2005, too. Opening another instance of VS 2010 would be an over kill. Can I have a type (for now forgetting its semantics) that can be covariant as well as contravariant? For e.g. public interface Foo<in out T> { void DoFooWith(T arg); } Off to Eric Lippert's blog for the meat and potatoes of variance in C# 4.0 as there's little else anywhere that covers adequate ground on the subject.

  • Which type of data can be garbage collected when app is in background?

    - by Neoh
Let's say I start from activity A - activity B. While in activity B I press home to exit. After a long time, gc may be called because other apps take higher priority. My question is, which of the following type of data will be garbage collected (I'm pretty sure static fields can be garbage collected any time but I'm not sure about these): i) fields that are declared final or static final ii) intent and its data that I passed from activity A to activity B iii) onSavedInstanceState when orientation is changed during the app running I ask this because I want to ensure that my app won't crash when I restore activity B from background after a long period.

  • Are these REST HTTP response codes right, and what about the Content-Type?

    - by talentedmrjones
    I'm writing a controller helper that sets the proper response headers for my REST controller action. It's pasted below and should be simplified enough for those who aren't familiar with Zend Framework to understand what I'm doing. My question is: Are these codes correct for their respective responses, and in the case of "access denied" do I use a 401 or 403? Also, in case of responding with an error, I understand I should be placing a message in the response body, but should I set the "Content-Type" to "text/plain"? <?php class App_Controller_Helper_RestResponse extends Zend_Controller_Action_Helper_Abstract { public function denied() { // 403 or 401? } public function notFound() { // 404 } public function created() { // 201 } public function deleted() { // 204 } public function redirect() { // 301 // new url } public function malformed() { // 400 } public function gone() { // 410 } }

  • Delphi 2010 - Why can't I declare an abstract method with a generic type parameter?

    - by James
I am trying to do the following in Delphi 2010: TDataConverter = class abstract public function Convert<T>(const AData: T): string; virtual; abstract; end; However, I keep getting the following compiler error: E2533 Virtual, dynamic and message methods cannot have type parameters I don't quite understand the reason why I can't do this. I can do this in C# e.g. public abstract class DataConverter { public abstract string Convert<T>(T data); } Anyone know the reasoning behind this?

  • Without using PECL or system() type functions, is there a way to look up DNS records using PHP?

    - by Navarr
I'm working on creating a new type of email protocol, and in order to do that I had to set up an SRV DNS record for my domain. In promoting this protocol, I'll need to be able to discover if a given host uses my system (and if not fall back to an older protocol). So, is there a way to pull a DNS record (such as SRV) using PHP without using a PECL extension or running it through the linux command line (I already know I can ob_start() and system("host -t SRV hostname") but I'm looking for a better way, if it exists.)

  • For LinqToSQL is 0 true or is 1 (for type Bit)?

    - by Vaccano
I have a column of type Bit (called BBoolVal in this example). I have a LinqToSQL Statement Like this: var query = List<MyClass> myList = _ctx.DBList .Where(x => x.AGuidID == paramID) .Where(x => x.BBoolVal == false); When I look at the sql it ends up like this (I added the spacing and changed the names): SELECT [t0].[Id], [t0].[AGuidID], [t0].[OtherIDID], [t0].[TimeColumn], [t0].[BBoolVal], [t0].[MoreID] FROM [dbo].[MyTable] AS [t0] WHERE (NOT ([t0].[BBoolVal] = 1)) AND ([t0].[AGuidID] = @p0) Because my x.BBoolVal == false translates to [BBoolVal] == 1 I gather that false = 1 (and thus true = 0). I am asking because this seems a bit backwards to me. I am fine to accept it, I just want to be sure.

  • Cast A primitive type pointer to A structure pointer - Alignment and Padding?

    - by Seçkin Savasçi
Just 20 minutes age when I answered a question, I come up with an interesting scenario that I'm not sure of the behavior: Let me have an integer array of size n, pointed by intPtr; int* intPtr; and let me also have a struct like this: typedef struct { int val1; int val2; //and less or more integer declarations goes on like this(not any other type) }intStruct; My question is if I do a cast intStruct* structPtr = (intStruct*) intPtr; Am I sure to get every element correctly if I traverse the elements of the struct? Is there any possibility of miss-alignment(possible because of padding) in any architecture/compiler?

  • enable_shared_from_this and inheritance

    - by DeadMG
I've got a type which inherits from enable_shared_from_this<type>, and another type that inherits from this type. Now I can't use the shared_from_this method because it returns the base type and in a specific derived class method I need the derived type. Is it valid to just construct a shared_ptr from this directly? Edit: In a related question, how can I move from an rvalue of type shared_ptr<base> to a type of shared_ptr<derived>? I used dynamic_cast to verify that it really was the correct type, but now I can't seem to accomplish the actual move.

When I've got a template with certain type parameters, is it allowed for a function to return an object of this same template, but with different types? In other words, is the following allowed? template<class edgeDecor, class vertexDecor, bool dir> Graph<edgeDecor, int, dir> Graph<edgeDecor,vertexDecor,dir>::Dijkstra(vertex s, bool print = false) const { /* Construct new Graph with apropriate decorators */ Graph<edgeDecor, int, dir> span = new Graph<edgeDecor,int,dir>(); /* ... */ return span; }; If this is not allowed, how can I accomplish the same kind of thing?

    - by Alex
I am writing an abstract matrix class (and some concrete subclasses) for use on very differing hardwares/architectures, etc. and I want to write a row and column type that provides a transparent reference to the rows and columns of the matrix. However, I want to tune for performance, so I'd like this class to be essentially a compiler construct. In other words, I'm willing to sacrifice some dev time to making the overhead of these classes as small as possible. I assume all (small) methods would want to be virtual? Keep the structure small? Any other suggestions?

  • WCF REST Service Activation Errors when AspNetCompatibility is enabled

    - by Rick Strahl
I’m struggling with an interesting problem with WCF REST since last night and I haven’t been able to track this down. I have a WCF REST Service set up and when accessing the .SVC file it crashes with a version mismatch for System.ServiceModel: Server Error in '/AspNetClient' Application. Could not load type 'System.ServiceModel.Activation.HttpHandler' from assembly 'System.ServiceModel, Version=3.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089'.Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. After some experimenting and some help from Glenn Block and his team mates I was able to track down the problem in ApplicationHost.config. Specifically the problem was that there were multiple *.svc mappings in the ApplicationHost.Config file and the older 2.0 runtime specific versions weren’t marked for the proper runtime. Because these handlers show up at the top of the list they execute first resulting in assembly load errors for the wrong version assembly. To fix this problem I ended up making a couple changes in applicationhost.config. On the machine level root’s Handler mappings I had an entry that looked like this:<add name="svc-Integrated" path="*.svc" verb="*" type="System.ServiceModel.Activation.HttpHandler, System.ServiceModel, Version=3.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089" preCondition="integratedMode" /> and it needs to be changed to this:<add name="svc-Integrated" path="*.svc" verb="*" type="System.ServiceModel.Activation.HttpHandler, System.ServiceModel, Version=3.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089" preCondition="integratedMode,runtimeVersionv2.0" />Notice the explicit runtime version assignment in the preCondition attribute which is key to keep ASP.NET 4.0 from executing that handler. The key here is that the runtime version needs to be set explicitly so that the various *.svc handlers don’t fire only in the order defined which in case of a .NET 4.0 app with the original setting would result in an incompatible version of System.ComponentModel to load. What was really hard to track this down is that even when looking in the debugger when launching the Web app, the AppDomain assembly loads showed System.ServiceModel V4.0 starting up just fine. Apparently the ASP.NET runtime load occurs at a different point and that’s when things break. So how did this break? According to the Microsoft folks it’s some older tools that got installed that change the default service handlers. There’s a blog entry that points at this problem with more detail:http://blogs.iis.net/webtopics/archive/2010/04/28/system-typeloadexception-for-system-servicemodel-activation-httpmodule-in-asp-net-4.aspxNote that I tried running aspnet_regiis and that did not fix the problem for me. I had to manually change the entries in applicationhost.config.   © Rick Strahl, West Wind Technologies, 2005-2011Posted in AJAX   ASP.NET  WCF

  • Can't boot 12.04 installed alongside Windows 7

    - by PalaceChan
I realize there are other questions like this one here, but I have visited them and tried several things and nothing is helping. One of them had a suggestion to boot the liveCD, and sudo mount /dev/sda* /mnt and to then chroot and reinstall grub. I did this and it did not help. • The long road to bug-free software

    - by Tony Davis
The past decade has seen a burgeoning interest in functional programming languages such as Haskell or, in the Microsoft world, F#. Though still on the periphery of mainstream programming, functional programming concepts are gradually seeping into the imperative C# language (for example, Lambda expressions have their root in functional programming). One of the more interesting concepts from functional programming languages is the use of formal methods, the lofty ideal behind which is bug-free software. The idea is that we write a specification that describes exactly how our function (say) should behave. We then prove that our function conforms to it, and in doing so have proved beyond any doubt that it is free from bugs. All programmers already use one form of specification, specifically their programming language's type system. If a value has a specific type then, in a type-safe language, the compiler guarantees that value cannot be an instance of a different type. Many extensions to existing type systems, such as generics in Java and .NET, extend the range of programs that can be type-checked. Unfortunately, type systems can only prevent some bugs. To take a classic problem of retrieving an index value from an array, since the type system doesn't specify the length of the array, the compiler has no way of knowing that a request for the "value of index 4" from an array of only two elements is "unsafe". We restore safety via exception handling, but the ideal type system will prevent us from doing anything that is unsafe in the first place and this is where we start to borrow ideas from a language such as Haskell, with its concept of "dependent types". If the type of an array includes its length, we can ensure that any index accesses into the array are valid. The problem is that we now need to carry around the length of arrays and the values of indices throughout our code so that it can be type-checked. In general, writing the specification to prove a positive property, even for a problem very amenable to specification, such as a simple sorting algorithm, turns out to be very hard and the specification will be different for every program. Extend this to writing a specification for, say, Microsoft Word and we can see that the specification would end up being no simpler, and therefore no less buggy, than the implementation. Fortunately, it is easier to write a specification that proves that a program doesn't have certain, specific and undesirable properties, such as infinite loops or accesses to the wrong bit of memory. If we can write the specifications to prove that a program is immune to such problems, we could reuse them in many places. The problem is the lack of specification "provers" that can do this without a lot of manual intervention (i.e. hints from the programmer). All this might feel a very long way off, but computing power and our understanding of the theory of "provers" advances quickly, and Microsoft is doing some of it already. Via their Terminator research project they have started to prove that their device drivers will always terminate, and in so doing have suddenly eliminated a vast range of possible bugs. This is a huge step forward from saying, "we've tested it lots and it seems fine". What do you think? What might be good targets for specification and verification? SQL could be one: the cost of a bug in SQL Server is quite high given how many important systems rely on it, so there's a good incentive to eliminate bugs, even at high initial cost. [Many thanks to Mike Williamson for guidance and useful conversations during the writing of this piece] Cheers, Tony.

  • Using javascript to limit survey choices to three unique values

    - by leanne
I'm required to use a limited survey application, and have to adapt the provided code to meet more advanced functionality. I need to create a weighted ranking question, so users can select their top three choices and the data will go into the survey application and be accessible in the survey reports. The application only supports 2 types of questions (text fill & multiple choice) but I can alter the code, as long as it still sends the form data back to the survey application. The code is set up so it will show a drop-down menu of 0-3 for each option. Now I want to limit the user's choices so they can only select one "1" "2" or "3", three choices total. Ideally, if the user already had "2" selected for one option and they tried to select it for another option, it would set the first "2" as "0" or blank. Is this possible to do with javascript? If so, does anyone know of a site that might show code like this, or provide similar enough examples that I could adapt it? Current code here: <html> <head><title>Survey</title></head> <!-- Changes - remove br to put dropdown next to text for each item. Switch text & dropdown order for each item. - add comments to separate each question - removed blue title font - add instructions Goals - limit choices to one 1 one 2 and one 3, three choices total. --> <link href="---" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"> <body bgcolor="#3c76a3"> <!-- TRANSITIONAL DIALOG BOX --> <table border="0" align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" style="background-attachment: scroll; background-color: #3c76a3; background-repeat: no-repeat; background-position: left top;" bgcolor="#3c76a3" topmargin="0" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" width="100%" height="100%"> <tr> <td> <table border="0" align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" id="survey"> <tr> <td><p>&nbsp;</p> <!-- HEADER END --> <!-- FORM START TAG --><form name="survey" action="---" method="POST"> <FONT face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"> <b>survey</b><hr> <!-- 1 --> <input type=hidden name="Buy R.J. a DeLorean_multiple_answers" value="one"> <font size=2><select name="Buy R.J. a DeLorean" SIZE=1> <option value=""> <option value="0">0 <option value="1">1 <option value="2">2 <option value="3">3 </select></font> <input type="hidden" name="Buy R.J. a DeLorean_help" value=""> <b><font size=2>Buy R.J. a DeLorean</font></b> <hr size=1> <!-- 2 --> <input type=hidden name="Fill Lisa's office with marshmallows._multiple_answers" value="one"> <font size=2><select name="Fill Lisa's office with marshmallows."
