• RenderAction in an HtmlHelperExtension Method?

  I am trying to call the RenderAction Extension Method within my own Html Helper: System.Web.Mvc.Html.ChildActionExtensions.RenderAction(helper, "account", "login"); this is so that along with some additional logic, I would like all html helpers to use a common method name structure when calling it on the view: <%= Html.CompanyName().RenderAccount() %> but the problem I am having is that, asp.net will complain about not finding the actual route it needs to process. It does not take in the parameters of "controller" to be used as the action and "login" to be used as the action. It seems to only reference the current route. Any ideas how I can package up the RenderAction?

• How do I get the value of a DynamicControl?

  I'm using ASP.NET Dynamic Data functionality to do something a little weird. Namely, create a dynamic list of fields as children of the main object. So basically I have Ticket.Fields. The main page lists all the fields for Ticket, and the Fields property has a DynamicControl that generates a list of controls to collect more data. The tricky part is that this list ALSO uses Dynamic Data to generate the controls, so each field can be any of the defined FieldTemplates... meaning I don't necessarily know what the actual data control will be when I try to get the value. So, how do I get the value of a DynamicControl? Do I need to create a new subclass of FieldTemplate that provides a means to get at the value?

• Generate EF4 POCO classes first time only

  The problem I'm having is, using the POCO templates, generating my POCO classes the first time only and not overwriting them when the templates are re-ran. I know this sounds hokey and the reason is that I'm actually changing these templates and trying to generate metadata classes rather than the actual POCO classes, but these metadata classes will be hand-edited and I want to keep those edits in the future but still regenerate a certain amount of it. I have it all working exactly as I want except for the regeneration of the files. I have looked into T4 and it seems that there is a flag to do just this (see the Output.PreserveExistingFile property) but I don't understand where/how to set this flag. If you can tell me where/how to set this in the default POCO templates, then I think that's all I really need. Thanks!! :-)

• Creating a "netbeans property" style dialog box

  Hi I've been trying to create a GUI using netbeans, that includes a dialog similar to Netbean's own "property dialog" that appears when designing. ie. a dialog that contains a table that can be expanded by tree nodes. Something like the dialog on this page, http://platform.netbeans.org/tutorials/nbm-property-editors.html As far as I can understand, the page I linked to describes a custom editor I can set up for use within netbeans while designing - I'm just looking for a way to doing something similar for my actual application I'm writing. Is there an easy way to do this?   I wrote simple load testing tool for testing performance of Java modules. One problem I faced is algorithm of throughput measurements. Tests are executed in several thread (client configure how much times test should be repeated), and execution time is logged. So, when tests are finished we have following history: 4 test executions 2 threads 36ms overall time - idle * test execution 5ms 9ms 4ms 13ms T1 |-*****-*********-****-*************-| 3ms 6ms 7ms 11ms T2 |-***-******-*******-***********-----| <-----------------36ms---------------> For the moment I calculate throughput (per second) in a following way: 1000 / overallTime * threadCount. But there is problem. What if one thread will complete it's own tests more quickly (for whatever reason): 3ms 3ms 3ms 3ms T1 |-***-***-***-***----------------| 3ms 6ms 7ms 11ms T2 |-***-******-*******-***********-| <--------------32ms--------------> In this case actual throughput is much better because of measured throughput is bounded by the most slow thread. • android imageview scrolling to display full high quality image

  hi friends... i am working on displaying an image and placing an icon on top of it... clicking the icon will show an enlarged version of the image... though putting the imageview holding the image in a LinearLayout scales the image to the width of the dialog, the problem is that i need to display the image in a dialog but the image is very high resolution and hence is far bigger than the width of the dialog... I need to show the actual image with scrolling for both ways to see the whole image... But whenever i try putting the imageView in a scrollview the top of my imageview is blank... and again though image scrolls downwards the width is scaled to the width of the dialog... Helppppppppp guys....

• Zend_Auth using multiple tables

  What I'm trying to do is use Zend_Auth for authentication with the issuing being that the 'identity' is stored in a different table then then 'credential.' I'm able to pass an array for the credential and the identity but when it comes to the actual tables I'm not able to get it to accept the array. It ignores the 2nd table name. I was wondering if anyone has ever made this work in this way without extending the Zend_Auth class or if I will need to do so. Thanks in advance.

• WCF: What is the practical difference between transport and message reliability?

  Hello I am looking at differences between using WPF in .NET or using Silverlight 4 for the GUI front end of an app that connects to WCF services. I have read that net.tcp binding in Silverlight 4 only supports transport level reliability. With a WPF desktop app we can use message level reliability. What is the actual difference? If transport level reliability ensures that all TCP packets get through, doesnt that also mean that all WCF SOAP messages will also get through? I am also concerned that Silverlight only supports async message but thats a different issue. Thanks

• How can I prevent users from taking screenshots of my application window?

  What are some methods to prevent screenshots from being taken, if any? I've considered setting the "Print Screen" button as a hotkey, which makes the window fuzzy. However, there would be the problem of other 3rd party screenshot tools. How can I prevent their use? Why would I want such a thing? The idea is to create a chat client which you can't share the chatted information with others, not by copy & paste nor by print screen... Looking for general ideas or suggestions rather than actual code.

  The title says it all. I have symlinks to certain directories because the directories' names have non English characters that I got fed up trying to get apache's rewrite rules to match. Now the rewrite rules are back to just alpha and _ and - and my security concerns are less and it loads the resources I want. But I still need the actual target directory name for display purposes. To set simple html contents within web view I used this code and it is working fine: [[myWebView mainFrame] loadHTMLString:webViewContents baseURL:baseURLFramed]; Right now, if content is more than its actual size then it appears in web view showing both vertical and horizontal scroller in it. I want to set some default width and manage height according to its content in a way so that neither horizontal nor vertical scroller appears. Can anyone suggest me some solution for it?   I'm working on an automatic trading system. What sorts of safe-guards should I have in place? The main idea I have is to have multiple pieces checking each other. I will have a second independent little process which will also connect to the same trading account and monitor simple things, like ensuring the total net position does not go over a certain limit, or that there are no more than N orders in 10 minutes for example, or more than M positions open simultaneously. You can also check that the actual open positions correspond to what the strategy process thinks it actually holds. As a bonus I could run this checker process on a different machine/network provider. Besides the checks in the main strategy, this will ensure that whatever weird bug occurs, nothing really bad can happen. Any other things I should monitor and be aware of?

• Assembly wide multicast attributes. Are they evil?

  I am working on a project where we have several attributes in AssemblyInfo.cs, that are being multicast to a methods of a particular class. [assembly: Repeatable( AspectPriority = 2, AttributeTargetAssemblies = "MyNamespace", AttributeTargetTypes = "MyNamespace.MyClass", AttributeTargetMemberAttributes = MulticastAttributes.Public, AttributeTargetMembers = "*Impl", Prefix = "Cls")] What I don't like about this, is that it puts a piece of login into AssemblyInfo (Info, mind you!), which for starters should not contain any logic at all. The worst part of it, is that the actual MyClass.cs does not have the attribute anywhere in the file, and it is completely unclear that methods of this class might have them. From my perspective it greatly hurts readability of the code (not to mention that overuse of PostSharp can make debugging a nightmare). Especially when you have multiple multicast attributes. What is the best practice here? Is anyone out there is using PostSharp attributes like this?

We tried to avoid those pitfalls in the code but it likely we still have unknown mistakes left in our code. • Umbraco -- controlling access to media by membership

  I need to set up access to media files with the following structure: A media folder is designated as belonging to a specific member group. Then, a sub-folder below that needs to be available to a subset of members from the parent's member group. Any thoughts on how this can best be accomplished? I'll render the actual file download links with a user control, but how should I set up this access control on the back end? I need a member-group picker and a multiple member picker. Do these exist anywhere?

• Django: Admin with multiple sites & languages

  Hi everybody! I'm supposed to build some Django apps, that allow you to administer multiple sites through one backend. The contrib.sites framework is quite perfect for my purposes. I can run multiple instances of manage.py with different settings for each site; but how should django's admin deal with different settings for different sites, eg. if they have different sets of languages, a different (default) language? So there are some problem s to face if you have to work on objects coming from different sites in one admin... I think settings.ADMIN_FOR is supposed to be quite helpful for cases like this, but theres hardly any documentation about it and I think it's not really used in the actual Django version (?). So any ideas/solutions are welcome and much appreciated! Thanks a lot...

• JavaEE Application Server or Lightweight Container?

  Let me preface this by saying this is not an actual situation of mine but I'm asking this question more for my own knowledge and to get other people's inputs here. I've used both Spring and EJB3/JBoss, and for the smaller types of applications I've built, Spring (+Tomcat when needed) has been much simpler to use. However, when scaling up to larger applications that require things like load balancing and clustering, is Spring still a viable solution? Or is it time to turn to a solution like EJB3/JBoss when you start to get big enough to need that? I'm not sure if I've scoped the problem well enough to get a good answer, so please let me know. • How precise is the internal clock of a modern PC?

  I know that 10 years ago, typical clock precision equaled a system-tick, which was in the range of 10-30ms. Over the past years, precision was increased in multiple steps. Nowadays, there are ways to measure time intervals in actual nanoseconds. However, usual frameworks still return time with a precision of only around 15ms. My question is, which steps did increase the precision, how is it possible to measure in nanoseconds, and why are we still often getting less-than-microsecond precision (for instance in .NET). (Disclaimer: It strikes me as odd that this was not asked before, so I guess I missed this question when I searched. Please close and point me to the question in that case, thanks. I believe this belongs on SO and not on any other SOFU site. I understand the difference between precision and accuracy.)

• C++: A variation of priority queue

  I need some kind of priority queue to store pairs <key, value>. Values are unique, but keys aren't. I will be performing the following operations (most common first): random insertion; retrieving (and removing) all elements with the least key. random removal (by value); I can't use std::priority_queue because it only supports removing the head. For now, I'm using an unsorted std::list. Insertion is performed by just pushing new elements to the back (O(1)). Operation 2 sorts the list with std::sort (O(N*logN)), before performing the actual retrieval. Removal, however, is O(n), which is a bit expensive. Any idea of a better data structure?

  When creating an sfPropelRouteCollection, how can I edit the action names that the collection will generate? For example: # Routing for "product" CRUD product: class: sfPropelRouteCollection options: model: Product module: product actions: [new, create, edit, update, delete] How can I change the actual action that is called for any of the new/create/edit/update/delete methods? I'd like for them to call "ajaxNew," "ajaxCreate," etc. so the URL would look something like "product/ajaxNew", or the action for "update" would be "ajaxUpdate". • Rails 3.0/3.2: Called id for nil, which would mistakenly be 4 -- if you really wanted the id of nil, use object_id

  I'm following the Kevin Skoglund tutorial Ruby on Rails 3 Essential Training, which was written for rails 3.0, though I am currently using 3.2. It uses the following method in the pages_controller with a before_filter to display only the pages which belong to the parent subject. The tutorial explicitly uses .find_by_id because if the result is nil it "will not return an error". However I get the "Called id for nil, which would mistakenly be 4 -- if you really wanted the id of nil, use object_id" error when trying to view a page where @subject has been set to nil. def find_subject if params[:subject_id] @subject = Subject.find_by_id(params[:subject_id]) end end The actual code that is causing the error is: def list @pages = Page.order("pages.position ASC").where(:subject_id => @subject.id) end Is this something that has changed since 3.0? If so, what would be the correct way to implement this functionality in 3.2?
