• How do I use the iPhone Simulator in 3.2 (not iPad Simulator)

  I'm fixing my app to be a universal binary. Testing on the simulator seems to default to the iPad. For small corrections like checking orientations and small UI updates, the only way I can find to get the iPhone version is to plug in my iPhone and build and run on device. Loading the debugger takes valuable time, when running on simulator is so much faster for this kind of work. Can I set the simulator to default to iPhone for this? Setting it to 3.1.3 doesn't work because of the 3.2 code I have in the binary for the iPad.

• Java HTML parser/validator

  We allow people to enter HTML code on our wiki-like site. But only a limited subset of HTML to not affect our styling and not allow malicious javascript code. Is there a good Java library on the server side to ensure that the code entered is valid? We tried creating an XML Schema document to validate against. The only issue there is the libraries we used to validate gave back cryptic error messages. What I want is for the validation library to actually fix the issue (if there was a style="" attribute added to an element, remove it). If fixing it is not easy, at least allow me to report a message to the user with the location of the error (an error code that I can present a nice message from is fine, probably even preferable).

• Java library for HTML analysis

  Hi, (I've seen similar questions, but I think none of them cater to my specific needs, hence...) I would like to know if there is a Java library for analysis of real-world (read: incomplete, ill-formed) HTML. By analysis, I mean things like: figuring out the most prominent color in an HTML chunk changing that color to some other color (hence, has to support modification of the HTML as well) pruning out unwanted tags fixing up the HTML to result in a well formed HTML snippet Parts of the last two are done by libraries such as Jericho, and jTidy. 'Plugins' on top of these would be great. Thanks in advance!

• Flash / actionscript 3 sound delay.

  Hey. Im working on a flash project where I am loading multiple sounds from external files. The problem is that when I play them within my project there is a small delay from when they should be played until they are actually playing. My sounds are very short and are loaded before the project is actually using them. I have looked up the problem online and it looks like the problem is not something that is only happening for me. But, non of the resources I found had any clear ways of fixing this. Some resources say that you can fix this my constantly having a sound playing in the background. I have that but it does not help. I have also looked at the actual sound file in a sound tool and there is a small delay before the sound starts, but it is very very small and should not result in the delay im seeing in my flash project. Does anyone know of a good way to fix it?

• Scrape HTML tables from a given URL into CSV

  I seek a tool that can be run on the command line like so: tablescrape 'http://someURL.foo.com' [n] If n is not specified and there's more than one HTML table on the page, it should summarize them (header row, total number of rows) in a numbered list. If n is specified or if there's only one table, it should parse the table and spit it to stdout as CSV or TSV. Potential additional features: To be really fancy you could parse a table within a table, but for my purposes -- fetching data from wikipedia pages and the like -- that's overkill. The Perl module HTML::TableExtract can do this and may be good place to start for writing the tool I have in mind. An option to asciify any unicode. An option to apply an arbitrary regex substitution for fixing weirdnesses in the parsed table. • Debugging asp.net with firefox and visual studio.net - very slow compared to IE

  Debugging asp.net websites/web projects in visual studio.net 2005 with Firefox is loads slower than using IE. I've read something somewhere that there is a way of fixing this but i can't for the life of me find it again. Does anyone know what i'm on about and can point me in the right direction please? I prefer Firefox for debugging (firebug etc) hitting F5 when debugging with IE the browser launches really quickly and clicking around my web application is almost instant and when a breakpont is hit i get to my code straight away with no delays. hitting F5 when debugging with FireFox the browser launches really slowly (ok i have plugins that slow FF loading) but clicking around my web application is really really slow and when a breakpoint is hit it takes ages to break into code. i swear i've read something somewhere that there is a setting in Firefox (about:config maybe?) that when changed to some magic setting sorts all this out.

• Python: Getting INVALID response from PayPal's Sandbox IPN, slowly going insane...

  Hi All I am trying to implement a simple online payment system using PayPal, however I have tried everything I know and am still getting an INVALID response. I know it's nothing too simple, because I get a VERIFIED response when using the IPN simulator. I have tried putting the items into a dict first, I have tried fixing the encoding, and still nothing. • Tortoise SVN tree conflict with myself

  Has anyone had the experience of moving a file in tortoise and committing successfully, only to later commit a different change and be told of a tree conflict where: the file in its original location has been deleted, but in tortoise is marked as missing the file in its new location is there, but marked as already added. (I use tortoise SVN, and we have client and server 1.60) Nobody else changed either the directory or the file (according to svn log). Why is this happening? Is there a way to avoid it happening? If it does happen, is there a more elegant way of fixing the problem than by deleting the whole folder and updating again?

• Implement 3270 protocol in Java

  I've got a big problem with IBM HACL for accessing a server which speaks 3270 protocol. The library keeps crashing, and our JNI wrapper is actually a bug-fixing layer for the poorly-implemented and poorly-documented library (and I suspect we have introduced new bugs with it too). Moreover, in our company, everybody knows Java, and could maintain the software if we didn't have the JNI-Layer and the IBM class library. We have to use the C++ class library, because the IBM Java library is unusable: we get every non-printable character translated, and we lose all control characters along the way. Now the question is: can we ditch this library and implement our solution in Java completely (we'd like to avoid using another library from another vendor)? Is the protocol well documented? Is the implementation of 3270-over-ssl really so complex? Thanks.

• How to set my .apk file to run on different screen resolution in android?

  I am using a "WVGA800" for my app. I try to run it on different resolution screens. It it is not perfectly scratching in that resolution . I read and implement issues form this link. http://developer.android.com/guide/practices/screens_support.html But still not result. Please let me know if any one hase a perfect solution. Main issue are that I am fixing hight & width of Image, textsize etc. When these are displayed to screen of "WVGA800". But when I test them on "HVGA", "QVGA" then problem arise. I want to avoid the "if else" conditions by getting the screen resolution at Runtime. If any one hase any solution for this...let me know. Thanks in advance. I am also wondring when there will be new devices with new screen resolutions?

  Actually my issue is , our application is deployed on jboos As 4.0x, we face some issues in jboss logging.. whenever the server is restarted, jboss stops logging , and there is no update in server.log. After that it is not updating the log file. then we do touch cmd on log4j.xml, so that it creates the log files again. Please help me in fixing the issue we cant do touch everytine. we face this issue in both the nodes. thanks, balaji

  Hi Guys, I am using a wrapper class A which initializes the java.util.logger static class A { public static Logger logger; public static void init(){ logger = Logger.getLogger("test"); } Now, everywhere in my program I call A.init() and then logger.log("Message+uniqid"). But recently I moved to HTTP servlets and I am having problems. Basically, If a app is already running and the logger is logging... and someone else runs the app again, the logger from the previous instance stops and starts logging for the second one. Can anyone have a solution to how I should go about fixing this static variable issue? I can pass the logger into all constructor classes but thats really tedious. Any better solution would be appreciated..

• How to recover gracefully from a C# udp socket exception

  Context: I'm porting a linux perl app to C#, the server listens on a udp port and maintains multiple concurrent dialogs with remote clients via a single udp socket. During testing, I send out high volumes of packets to the udp server, randomly restarting the clients to observe the server registering the new connections. The problem is this: when I kill a udp client, there may still be data on the server destined for that client. When the server tries to send this data, it gets an icmp "no service available" message back and consequently an exception occurs on the socket. I cannot reuse this socket, when I try to associate a C# async handler with the socket, it complains about the exception, so I have to close and reopen the udp socket on the server port. Is this the only way around this problem?, surely there's some way of "fixing" the udp socket, as technically, UDP sockets shouldn't be aware of the status of a remote socket? Any help or pointers would be much appreciated. Thanks.

  Is it possible to catch a method in the current class the try-catch block is running on? for example: public static void arrayOutOfBoundsException(){ System.out.println("Array out of bounds"); } ..... public static void doingSomething(){ try { if(something[i] >= something_else); } catch (arrayOutOfBoundsException e) { System.out.println("Method Halted!, continuing doing the next thing"); } } If this is possible how will it be the correct way to call the catch method? If this is not possible, could anyone point me in the right direction, of how to stop an exception from halting my program execution in Java without having to create any new classes in the package, or fixing the code that produces ArrayOutOfBoundsException error. • Frustrated with Objective-c code...

  Well, I've started with iPod/iPhone programming using Head First iPhone Development (O'reilly) and I'm typing code out of the book. There are two problems, one is programming related and the other is not. I don't understand the format of objective-c methods. I'm getting an few errors now, based on source code from the book. Which leads me to my next issue. Some of the code is buggy. I think so because I couldn't get the code to run without modifying it. The book has some typos in the text since it's a first edition and whatnot, but could my "fixing" the code have to do with it? So... Where can I learn more about objective-c methods and how they work in terms of structure and where the return type and arguments go? For those with the book, I'm in the middle of the InstaTweet app towards the beginning. Thanks.

• The Benefits of Constants

  I understand one of the big deals about constants is that you don't have to go through and update code where that constant is used all over the place. Thats great, but let's say you don't explicitly declare it as a constant. What benefit(s) exist(s) to take a variable that HAPPENS to actually not be changed and make it a constant, will this save on processing, and/or size of code...etc? Basically I have a program that the compiler is saying that a particular variable is not changed and thus can be declared a constant, I just wanted to know what the benefit to adding the constant qualifier to it would be, if it makes no difference then making that change adds no value and thus no point wasting time (this same scenario occurs in more then one place) going back and "fixing" all these variables. • Apache is running but there is no page displayed

  I am on a Mac OSX and I am using the built in PHP and Apache2. I have been setting up MySQL and finally when I got MySQL working my local site won't display. Do note that I did have the web server running and delivering PHP enabled pages, just no database connection. But my question is not about MySQL. I have changed various settings in the 'http.conf' file, and I have the line: '127.0.0.1 localhost' in my hosts file. I also have other alias' pointing to 127.0.0.1. I have checked everything I could about Apache and I have made sure that any message in the error_log is ok. I currently have my errorLevel set to debug, so I get all the messages. At this point (HOURS of self fixing) I think I need help. What can I provide for someone to figure this out with me. Thanks.

• Integrating GSL onto iPhone Xcode

  I have been trying to integrate GSL (Gnu Scientific Library) into an iPhone project using Xcode. The challenge is GSL has all the modules in different folders, yet when their header files are reference, they often reference instead of or . At least with I could use Xcode's recursive header file search to find it. But with , basically file not found. Does anyone have an easy way to address the hierarchical GSL structure to compile into Xcode? I can do it the tedious way of fixing all the #INCLUDE lines but hoping there is a better alternative. This way, I can more easily update GSL when changes are made by the community. NOTE: I found Xcode needs to find the right header file locations (make sure to adjust your TARGET Build settings, not just your Project Build settings).

• Massive SQL issue shutting down our site.

  Our website has started timing out like crazy today. All of our clients are finding it unusable. The only error we can seem to trace down as a potential problem is this: SQLAllocHandle on SQL_HANDLE_DBC failed Error ASP Description Error Category Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers I have no idea what it means or how to go about fixing it. Anyone ever encountered this error before? Currently, you can log in to our site, but then once you go to do anything else, you find yourself logged out or nothing happens. We have a lot of Ajax going on so the "nothing happens" probably has to do with the Ajax pages not loading properly due to logouts and so nothing displays to the user. Like I said, I'm at a loss. Anyone have any advice on this error?

Calling typeof(Foo).GetInterfaces() doesn't work because it returns the entire interface hierarchy (i.e. interfaces variable contains IEnumerable<int> and IEnumerable), not just the top level.

• Actionscript 2.0 mx.managers.CreatePopUp dialog triggers onRollOver for events underneath it

  All, On the main stage I have a button that is highlighted on rollover. I am using mx.managers.CreatePopUp to create a dialog box that pops up and takes user information. When the dialog box appears above the button, mousing over the dialog box triggers the highlight for the button beneath it. Can you provide some suggestions as to what the issue might be caused by? (I am fairly new to Flash so any suggestions would be helpful. Just looking for things to experiment with to get the correct behavior.) Other info that might be helpful: I've noticed that when I create a modal version of the dialog box, this behavior does not occur. Dismissing the modal dialog disables the entire stage. Fixing this issue would also solve my problem, but I've been unsuccessful thus far. Thanks in advance.

• Java Google App Engine inconsistent data lose after restarting dev server

  Hello everyone, I am using Java GAE. So far, i'm just scafolding my data objects and i'm seeing an interesting issue. The records that i am playing around with are getting updated properly as long as my dev server is running up. The second that the my dev server gets restarted, i lose all of my changes. That would be not alarming if i lost all of my records, but, there was a point of time where my data persisted through the server restart. I'm worried that i would lose production data if i launched without fixing this potential bugs? ANy idea on wher ei should look?

• Facebox adding commas to input

  I'm using a facebox to display a form inside a lightbox, nothing too exciting (just a couple of datepickers, some textboxes and a checkbox). However, I'm having issues with the postbacks, whenever I post back from the facebox it adds a ',' to the start of the input (so "rabbit" becomes ",rabbit") Now, I saw that there was the same issue with the modalpopup extender from the ajaxcontroltoolkit, so I assume it's a common issue. Can anyone either explain why this is happening, or tell me how to fix it? provide a decent way of fixing this? I have actually done it, and it works very nicely, but I don't really want to answer my own bounty question so someone else give it a go! • Downgrading to pyobjc 2.0 from pyobjc 2.2

  I accidentally installed pyobjc 2.2 with easy-install pyobjc, and it's causing problems: When I try to import it I get the error Incompatible library version: _objc.so requires version 10.0.0 or later, but libxml2.2.dylib provides version 9.0.0 I'm not interested in fixing that though, all I want is my pyobjc 2.0 back. I've tried removing pyobjc 2.2 and reinstalling python, and I've tried building 2.0 from the svn trunk (I get the error lipo: can't figure out the architecture of [random filename].out) I imagine there must be a good way of doing this but it escapes me. Any insight would be appreciated. Edit: Python 2.6 and OSX 10.5
