  • What is the best way to produce a tilde in LaTeX for a website?

    Following the previous questions on this topic, when you produce a website in LaTeX what is the best way to produce a url that contains a tilde? \verb produces the upper tilde that does not read well, and $\sim$ does not copy/pase well (adding a space when I do it). Solutions? It seems like this should be one of those things that has a very easy fix... if it doesn't, why not?

  • Resizing view to display over hidden uitabbar in iPhone

    I have an uitabbarcontroller which contains a couple uiViewControllers. When i show one of those controllers i am hiding the tabbar. This view has a fullscreen uiimageView. The thing is i am seeing a white rectangle over where the tabbar is hidden. I have tried resizing the views but the white rectangle is still there. Any ideas? Thanks

Should I break up the characters in the query, and individually perform a LIKE % % match on each character against the row, or is there any easier way to get a row that contains one of the two characters?     Here's what I am looking to accomplish, I have a class that has an enum of some values and I want to subclass that and add more values to the enum. This is a bad example, but: public class Digits { public enum Digit { 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 } } public class HexDigits extends Digits { public enum Digit { A, B, C, D, E, F } } so that HexDigits.Digit contains all Hex Digits. Is that possible?

An IOException's Message property contains "The process cannot access the file 'foo' because it is being used by another process.", but this is unsuitable for programmatic detection. What is the safest, most robust way to detect a file being used by another process?

  • why is this rails association loading individually after an eager load?

    I'm trying to avoid the N+1 queries problem with eager loading, but it's not working. The associated models are still being loaded individually. Here are the relevant ActiveRecords and their relationships: class Player < ActiveRecord::Base has_one :tableau end Class Tableau < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :player has_many :tableau_cards has_many :deck_cards, :through => :tableau_cards end Class TableauCard < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :tableau belongs_to :deck_card, :include => :card end class DeckCard < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :card has_many :tableaus, :through => :tableau_cards end class Card < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :deck_cards end and the query I'm using is inside this method of Player: def tableau_contains(card_id) self.tableau.tableau_cards = TableauCard.find :all, :include => [ {:deck_card => (:card)}], :conditions => ['tableau_cards.tableau_id = ?', self.tableau.id] contains = false for tableau_card in self.tableau.tableau_cards # my logic here, looking at attributes of the Card model, with # tableau_card.deck_card.card; # individual loads of related Card models related to tableau_card are done here end return contains end Does it have to do with scope? This tableau_contains method is down a few method calls in a larger loop, where I originally tried doing the eager loading because there are several places where these same objects are looped through and examined. Then I eventually tried the code as it is above, with the load just before the loop, and I'm still seeing the individual SELECT queries for Card inside the tableau_cards loop in the log. I can see the eager-loading query with the IN clause just before the tableau_cards loop as well. EDIT: additional info below with the larger, outer loop Here's the larger loop.     Hi, My table result contains fields: id count ____________ 1 3 2 2 3 2 From this table i have to form another table **score** which should look as follows id my_score ___________ 1 1.0000 2 0.6667 3 0.6667 That is my_score=count/MAX(count) but if i give the query as create TEMPORARY TABLE(select id,(count/MAX(count)) AS my_score from result); only 1 st row is retrieved.Can any one suggest the query so that my_score is calculated for all tuples.   • Can I create a custom class that inherits from a strongly typed DataRow?

    I'm working on a huge, old project with a lot of brittle code, some of which has been around since the .NET 1.0 era, and it has been and will be worked on by other people... so I'd like to change as little as possible. I have one project in my solution that contains DataSet.xsd. This project compiles to a separate assembly (Data.dll). The database schema includes several tables arranged more or less hierarchically, but the only way the tables are actually linked together is through joins. I can get, e.g. DepartmentRow and EmployeeRow objects from the autogenerated code. EmployeeRow contains information from the employee's corresponding DepartmentRow through a join. I'm making a new report to view multiple departments and all their employees. If I use the existing data access scheme, all I will be able to get is a spreadsheet-like output where each employee is represented on one line, with department information repeated over and over in its appropriate columns. E.g.: Department1...Employee1... Department1...Employee2... Department2...Employee3... But what the customer would like is to have each department render like a heading, with a list of employees beneath each. E.g.: - Department1... Employee1... Employee2... + Department2... I'm trying to do this by inheriting hierarchical objects from the autogenerated Row objects. E.g.: public class Department : DataSet.DepartmentRow { public List<Employee> Employees; } That way I could nest the data in the report by using a collection of Department objects as the DataSource, each of which will put its list of Employees in a subreport. The problem is that this gives me a The type Data.DataSet.DepartmentRow has no constructors defined error. And when I try to make a constructor, e.g. public class Department : DataSet.DepartmentRow { private Department() { } public List<Employee> Employees; } I get a 'Data.DataSet.DepartmentRow(System.Data.DataRowBuilder)' is inaccessible due to its protection level. error in addition to the first one. Is there a way to accomplish what I'm trying to do? Or is there something else I should be trying entirely?
