• Cannot access Adsense funds after switching to third-party partnership program

  I had a Google Adsense partnership with $80 in it, but then switched to a different partnership and now can't get my money. When I first started YouTube, I joined the Adsense partnership program. After gaining $80 in my Adsense account, I got an offer to join a third party partnership program called Zoomin.tv. I accepted, and it is paying me monthly now. The problem is that my Adsense account still has the $80 in it, and is not gaining more cash. The Zoomin.tv money is going directly to my PayPal. The payment threshold in Adsense is $100, and you can't make it lower. Therefore, my money is stuck in Adsense and I'd love a solution that allows me to access my money.

• Are there any data remanence issues with flash storage devices?

  I am under the impression that, unlike magnetic storage, once data has been deleted from a flash drive it is gone for good but I'm looking to confirm this. This is actually relating to my smart phone, not my computer, but I figured it would be the same for any flash type memory. Basically, I have done a "Factory Reset" on the phone, which wipes the Flash ROM clean but I'm wondering is it really clean or is the next person that has my phone, if they are savvy enough going to be able to get all my passwords and what not? And yes, I am wearing my tinfoil hat so the CIA satellites can't read my thoughts, so I'm covered there.

• Cannot access system after deleting passwd file

  I was trying to change my user name and also my /home/username and my system started to crash. I deleted the passwd file but I had a backup named passwd_bkp. I tried to rename this passwd_bkp as passwd and it did not work. No commands were being executed... I was in a terminal window. I re-started my system and now I cannot login. The GRub loads two options: Linux and recovery mode. I tried to open a sessions as root but it says the file system is corrupted. I cannot access my files. Did I lose all my files?

  I am working on a project which has a Desktop Application for MAC/COCOA, a native application for iPhone another native application in iPad. All the application do almost same thing. The applications are data driven applications. Every communication to server is made via a restful API developed in PHP. When a user logs in a lot of data is fetched from server. And to remain in sync with server pooling is done. As there are lot of data to pool it makes application slower and un-reliable. A possible solution that comes into my mind is to use Socket based server. My question is that will it reasonably improve the performance? And which technology (of sockets) will be good as a server side solution for data driven application? I have heard a lot about Node.js. Please give your suggestions.

• Demo on Data Guard Protection From Lost-Write Corruption

  Today I received the news a new demo has been made available on OTN for Data Guard protection from lost-write corruption. Since this is a typical MAA solution and a very nice demo I decided to mention this great feature also in this blog even while it's a recommended best practice for some time. When lost writes occur an I/O subsystem acknowledges the completion of the block write even though the write I/O did not occur in the persistent storage. On a subsequent block read on the primary database, the I/O subsystem returns the stale version of the data block, which might be used to update other blocks of the database, thereby corrupting it.  Lost writes can occur after an OS or storage device driver failure, faulty host bus adapters, disk controller failures and volume manager errors. In the demo a data block lost write occurs when an I/O subsystem acknowledges the completion of the block write, while in fact the write did not occur in the persistent storage. When a primary database lost write corruption is detected by a Data Guard physical standby database, Redo Apply (MRP) will stop and the standby will signal an ORA-752 error to explicitly indicate a primary lost write has occurred (preventing corruption from spreading to the standby database). • Enforce VPN connection to access the Internet

  I'm using a VPN when I'm online at an unencrypted wifi. Unfortunately, at my university the connection is quite unstable and at every reconnect the VPN connection is terminated and I manually need to reconnect to it using the NetworkManager, which obviously only works if I notice the reconnect. I enabled the option to automatically connect to the VPN in the NM options, but it seems to have no effect. Is there a way to enforce an active VPN connection before any other application can access the network connection so I can be sure not to send private data over unencrypted connections?   When I try and Access my Windows 7 OS I get the following memo and I have no idea what to make of the code. Error mounting /dev/sda2 at /media/name/Windows7_OS: Command-line `mount -t "ntfs" -o "uhelper=udisks2,nodev,nosuid,uid=1000,gid=1000,dmask=0077,fmask=0177" "/dev/sda2" "/media/name/Windows7_OS"' exited with non-zero exit status 13: ntfs_attr_pread_i: ntfs_pread failed: Input/output error Failed to read NTFS $Bitmap: Input/output error NTFS is either inconsistent, or there is a hardware fault, or it's a SoftRAID/FakeRAID hardware. In the first case run chkdsk /f on Windows then reboot into Windows twice. The usage of the /f parameter is very important! If the device is a SoftRAID/FakeRAID then first activate it and mount a different device under the /dev/mapper/ directory, (e.g. /dev/mapper/nvidia_eahaabcc1). Please see the 'dmraid' documentation for more details. What should I do ?

  I have an external hard drive connected to my Airport Extreme. I keep my photo and music files on it and can access them from both a Mac PowerPC and a Windows XP machine. For some reason I can find, much less connect to, it on my Ubuntu 10.10 machine. I can see my router in the "network" folder but can't seem to find and connect to the shared drive. • Recover files from NTFS drive with bad sectors

  A few nights ago I have created a backup of my data on an external 500 GB NTFS USB hard drive. I have then formatted my computer, reinstalled Ubuntu and started transferring back the data from the external HDD. Unfortunately some files have became corrupted and Ubuntu is unable to copy them over. The same issue happens if I login using Windows 7. Disk Utility detects with SMART that there are "a few bad sectors". Some of files are perfectly intact, but other files cannot be accessed (nor read, copied...) although they are displayed within nautilus and show the correct file size. Is there anything I can do to recover this data? I have thought of using TestDisk but this utility seems more useful for repairing lost partitions or deleted files. I have also thought of using ddrescue so I could at least have a low level copy of the disk but I am not sure what use to make of it in order to recover the data!!!

We would prefer to do this without migrating these sub-directories to their own repositories. Staff also need access to these subdirectories.
