• Infinite terrain shadows

  I'm creating an infinite terrain engine, which generates the terrain either with fractals or noise. How can I make dynamic shadows for the sun on this terrain, if I don't know in advance what will be rendered in front of the sun. My terrain: The sun is the only light, it is directional, my terrain is generated on a plane which is positioned before the camera, frustum culled and fits the size of the viewing frustum. • Can coding style cause or influence memory fragmentation?

  As the title states, I'd like to know if coding style can cause or influence memory fragmentation in a native application, specifically one written using C++. If it does, I'd like to know how. An example of what I mean by coding style is using std::string to represent strings (even static strings) and perform operations on them instead of using the C Library (such as strcmp, strlen, and so on) which can work both on dynamic strings and static strings (the latter point is beneficial since it does not require an additional allocation to access string functions, which is not the case with std::string). A "forward-looking" attitude I have with C++ is to not use the CRT, since to do so would, in a way, be a step backwards. However, such a style results in more dynamic allocations, and especially for a long living application like a server, this causes some speculation that memory fragmentation might become a problem.

• Two "subdomains" crossing search results

  My question relates to two websites, each of which is a "Calvary Christian College", however in two totally different locations and unrelated to each other entirely (except by name, and domain). All schools in the state are issued a .qld.edu.au, in this case calvary.qld.edu.au and calvarycc.qld.edu.au. Now what's interesting is that these domains are crossing each other in sitelinks for searches such as "calvary christian college townsville" (if you check the sitelinks 2/6 are to a different domain). I've put a demotion in for this ages ago (we control calvary.qld.edu.au), however we're seeing no change on the results page. I have been able to get the owners of calvarycc.qld.edu.au to submit demotions for our domain, which should go in sometime this week. What can we do to tell Google that these websites are not interchangeable, despite both appearing as "subdomains" of qld.edu.au. We can possibly open channels of communication with the administrators of qld.edu.au but will need to tell them what we need to change, and at this point I'm out of ideas.

  A couple of my friends run a business and they asked me to build them a public website. It will only be used for information about the company with soe pictures. No transactions will be involved. Right now I work for a company where I build internal websites, and do alot of backend programming in C#. I understand html, css, jquery, etc. so I feel like I am completely capable of building a website for them. However, I do not know all the basic knowledge to building one. For example, where should we host the files, what type of security issues do I need to be aware of, what's the best software to use for developing websites (I use visual studio at work), where can I find some design techniques, etc. Any help is appreciated.

Now When I went for interviews I got selected for a company that manifolds into PHP and its technologies to create websites.The other company in which I also got selected offers more than half the higher package than previous but I have to work here on .net platform and all the Microsoft Technologies which I do not merry. The work environment of php company is quite cool with 400employees(onli 10 php developers) and the .net company has only a strength of 20employees Now the thing is I do not know about Enterprise Application Building and other stuff so guys If any advice that may help me select my job would be appreciated.

  I have 2 websites, and on both websites, randomly on time, get's redirected automatically to porn sites. I can't figure out if it's something in the code or if the webhost is infected somehow. The two sites is: http://www.storkas.com/vm and http://www.prowebdesign.no/vm. Where should i start to find out what's happening..? I scanned the sites on hxxp://sitecheck.sucuri.net. One odd thing i saw there, is a reference to: hxxp://js.nohealth.org/js/jquery-1.1.js. I do not have this in my html code..

• Restricting access to sites

  I'm having some problems configuring my local proxy server so that it would restrict access to certain websites. The proxy server I'm using is Squid; I edited its configuration file found in /etc/squid/squid.conf to include the following: acl wikipedia dstdomain .wikipedia.org http_access deny wikipedia I tried to redirect elinks to use Squid. According to Squid's config file, it listens to port 3128, so in /etc/elinks/elinks.conf I added the following: set protocol.http.proxy.host = "localhost:3128" I also restarted Squid with sudo /etc/init.d/squid restart, but I can still access the banned websites using Elinks. What did I do wrong?

What if the focus of the webmaster/client is 100% set on the quality of the content with precise keywords in meta tags, clean design, regular articles updates, clean URLs and highly filtered external links leading to pages on websites dealing on the same,or related subjects; isn't it the job of a good search engine like Google to catch this website and show it in its front-page ? Or does Search Engines count on us to help them find us, and webmasters will always have to be up-to-date regarding SEO tools and rules updates on top of websites' design, browsers customization, progressive enhancement etc ?

  I have defined a host in my CPanel\WHM server and put all my websites under one host account. The host Main Domain is domain.com, and all other websites are Add-on Domains: domain.com --folder --domain1 --domain2 --domain3 ... The thing I need is that when calling domain.com in browser, the server read files from another folder. for example when call http://domain.com it shows us http://domain.com/folder BUT I don't mean a redirection, I want server do this in background without showing visitors the real path. I couldn't do this with Domain WildCard Redirection because it got error. How can I do this? With htaccess or ... ?

• Mobile traffic of my second site redirected to my base site [Edited,have a look]

  I have a strange issue with my website and it seems i am unable to understand what cauese the problem.I would highly appreciate your help.The Scenario is I have two websites. Website A Website B Website A is simply hosted within the root directory of my hosting account.Within this root *directory* i have a sub folder " subfolder A " and within which is another subfolder " subfolder B " that contains my site Website B so the path looks like root/sublfolder_A/subfolder_B/ that contains my **Website B ( i.e subfolder_B) ** All goes fine.When i access the website B from my desktop/Laptop Website B is loaded normally. but when i access the Website through a mobile device , mobile site of Website A is loaded while as it should load website_B Also , to let you know , both websites have different URL's and not subdomain's or anything. I found out that Telerik's Kendo UI is very good to build websites that look and feel native on mobile platforms (e.g. iOS and Android). My question is, is it possible to build HTML5 apps to deploy them on iTunes App Store and Google Play?   I am looking for an enterprise-grade service or a tool that can be used to scan / fingerprint websites and notify when major XHTML code changes are detected. The tool should be able to continuously scan thousands of websites and determine the percentage of HTML code that has been modified since the last run. And then either save the data where it can be easily accessed or send periodic notifications. I know of services like ChangeDetect.com, but they don't do markup only changes and instead focus on everything, including content. We don't really care about presentation content, because a lot of sites we need to cover are updated frequently with content.

  What causes the flash of white to the right of a responsive design when changing orientation from portrait to landscape on iOS? Try it on iOS6 Safari: Websites like this don't do it: http://html5boilerplate.com But this one does: http://www.initializr.com Something to do with re-processing (CPU lag) to fit a wider screen? It doesn't happen in Chrome for iOS6... Update: I just removed all img and from my testing site, but it still happens. This seems to happen with a lot of different websites out there. Is it a bug with their code, or a Safari for iOS bug? Others are completely immune to it...

• Why C# is not statically typed but F# and Haskell are?

  There was a talk given by Brian Hurt about advantages and disadvantages of static typing. Brian said that by static typing he don't mean C#, but F# and Haskell. Is it because of dynamic keyword added to C#-4.0? But this feature is relatively rarely useful. By the way, there are ? and unsafeCoerse in Haskell which obviously are not the same, but something that could blown your head off in runtime similarly like exception thrown as a result of dynamic. Finally, why F# and Haskell could be named a statically typed languages and C# couldn't?

Is there a way to distinguish adsense income from website1 to website 2? I tried using custom channels, but somehow this part of adsense eludes me. Can someone shed some light on this?
