  • Mysql out of disk space

    I have just finished developing a rails app which has a mysql db as a backend. The app is meant for high traffic and will store lots of information. I am planning to set up my own web server and host the site from it. If in future my disk space runs out i would want to expand by adding more space. But say if my mysql database is housed in my /disk0s1 and by adding a new drive i have more partitions (and hence more disk space), how then would i extend my database to store information on those partitions too, and at the same time prevent any information from being written on the original partition. Should i go for multiple databases? if so how? If i went for a hosting solution i wouldn't be bothering about this as i would just have to worry about making payments for the extra space :) I always wondered how space is added on-the-go by these webhosts. Is there any specific mysql configuration that i have to make?

I am successfully integrated MVC project into WebApp(C#) and also VB.NET MVC and VB.NET WebApp also I am able to successfully integrated. The problem is If I choose WebApp as VB.NET project, and integrated with C# MVC project. In this case the request is not routing to corresponding MVC files. What could be the reason not routing to MVC. Do we need to plug some extra dlls?

  • Problems with kickstart script, partition info crashes deployment

    Hi, Currently testing cobbler, but have problem with the kickstart script when the partition information is loaded. Here is my ks: http://pastebin.ca/1824343 I can't figure out what is the problem with the partsection at all. Without it, it works. I've even tried autopart. If the entry is removed, it works, but of course I have to provide the installer with partition information. Under the kickstart an python exception is raised. I get a Errno 2 No such file or directory. My Apache logs states: File does not exist: /var/www/cobbler/links/CentOS-5.3-x86_64/images/updates.img File does not exist: /var/www/cobbler/links/CentOS-5.3-x86_64/disc1 File does not exist: /var/www/cobbler/links/CentOS-5.3-x86_64/images/product.img But without the part information, no error occours. What am I not seeing? Cobbler 2.0.3, imported the CentOS 5.3 x86_64 DVD, PXE booting from a Xen guest.

  • Changing Focus on my Blog

    I try to limit these types of blog posts – the ones where I communicate some change as if I have a loyal subscriber base that will be somehow affected. Still, I think its of worth if for nothing else than to document for myself an acknowledgement that my career is evolving. For the last who knows how long, I’ve had this as my banner: It’s funny how technology focuses change over time. 3.5 – 4 years ago I was wanting to immerse myself in BizTalk. Then I shifted, focussing on Silverlight. I even started a short-lived Silverlight user group here in Winnipeg that had, IMO, one of the *best* UG logos ever (do a Google search for the old school Winnipeg Jets logo if you don’t catch the reference)… And even how I identified myself – as a Developer – isn’t really accurate anymore as I’ve shifted more into an architect/analyst role at Online Business Systems as well as getting much more involved in business development. So I’m switching the focus of this blog a bit. Nothing too great, but you’ll find my posts aren’t necessarily tied to a technology or platform. Instead I’ll be focussing on current passions and interests. Solution Architecture Before a line of code is written, a solution is envisioned. The process of performing solution analysis and architecture is an intriguing process that encompasses negotiation and interpersonal skills as much as technical knowledge. Business & Entrepreneurship Creating things, building things, and working with others – business is fascinating and exciting! Entrepreneurship, and intrapreneurship, are growing trends that I’ve been exploring over the last few years through my conference (www.prairiedevcon.com) and within Online. Microsoft At Online one of my roles is “Microsoft Practice Lead” and my entire career has been built around the Microsoft stack of technologies. That focus won’t change here on my blog, and there’s tonnes of exciting new products and technologies coming out of Redmond. Adoption This is a very personal subject that’s extremely close to my heart. I’m not talking about technology adoption, I’m talking about human adoption.   • Are there any font rendering libraries for games development that support hinting?

    I've used angel code's bitmap font generator quite a bit and though it's very good, I wondered if there would be a way of using the hinting information to provide a better readable result by using hinting to provide differing thickness based on size/pixel coverage. I imagine any solution would have to use the distance field tech presented in the valve paper on smoothing fonts while maintaining or reducing asset size. (http://www.gamedev.net/community/forums/topic.asp?topic_id=494612) but I haven't found any demos of it being used with hinting information turned on or included in the field gradients in any way. Another way of looking at this is whether there are any font bitmap generators that will output mipmaps that still maintain their readability in the face of pixel size. I think the lower mip levels would try to guarantee fill and space where it is necessary to maintain readability/topology over maintaining style/form (the point of hinting). In response to "Is there a reason you can't just render the size you want", the problem lies in the fact that font rasterisers currently don't render in 3D, and hinting information would be important in different amounts due to the pixel density being different along different axes, even differing in importance along the length of a string due to the size reducing over distance. For example, I only want horizontal hinting in a texture that is viewed from the side, and only really want vertical hinting in a font that is viewed from below or above. This isn't meant to be a renderer that tries to render a perfect outline as accurately as possible, as hinting distorts the reality of the font, instead this is meant to be a rendering solution for quite static scenes, but scenes that have 3D transformed and warped text layout. In this case the legibility is important, more important than the accuracy of representation of the polygon shape.
