  • How to implement an ID field on a POCO representing an Identity field in MS SQL?

    If I have a Domain Model that has an ID that maps to a SQL identity column, what does the POCO look like that contains that field? Candidate 1: Allows anyone to set and get the ID. I don't think we want anyone setting the ID except the Repository, from the SQL table. public class Thing { public int ID {get;set;} } Candidate 2: Allows someone to set the ID upon creation, but we won't know the ID until after we create the object (factory creates a blank Thing object where ID = 0 until we persist it). How would we set the ID after persisting? public class Thing { public Thing () : This (ID: 0) {} public Thing (int ID) { this.ID = ID } private int _ID; public int ID { get { return this.ID;}; } Candidate 3: Methods to set ID? Somehow we would need to allow the Repository to set the ID without allowing the consumer to change it. Any ideas? Is this barking up the wrong tree? Do we send the object to the Repository, save it, throw it away, then create a new object from the loaded version and return that as a new object?

    Hi, I'm trying to install this fossil in DOS 6.22, which is running in Microsoft Virtual PC 2007. I'm hoping that some of you veteran Oracle developers have any recollection of in what order do these diskette images need to be loaded, since I don't have any documentation available for 6.0.33. A friend emailed me the following 720K diskette images: INSTALLE.IMG RDBMS1.IMG RDBMS2.IMG RDBMS3.IMG RSF.IMG SQLLDR1.IMG SQLLDR2.IMG UTIL1.IMG UTIL2.IMG UTIL3.IMG Within Virtual PC, I capture a diskette image, one at a time, into Drive A: VPC's floppy disk emulation supports FAT12, so the supported diskette formats can be: 720K or 1.44MB. If anyone happens to have documentation for this legacy version, I would greatly appreciate a copy of it! Thank You.

  • MS Word opens documents hosted on WebDav share read-only on Windows Vista and 7 but only if no other

    We have a WebDav server with some Word documents on it. (We are using PHP's HTTP_WebDAV_Server but get the same issue on tests with Apache mod_dav - both use digest authentication, basic auth doesn't work on Vista or later) We have a web page that opens the word documents using javascript like: Doc = new ActiveXObject("Sharepoint.OpenDocuments.3"); Doc.EditDocument(url, 'Word.Document'); which causes word to connect to the webdav server and open the document, bypassing IE and most of windows built in WebDav client. On Windows XP, this works perfectly, and (after prompting you to log in) allows you to edit the word document and save it back to the server. On Windows 7 and Windows Vista, this usually opens the document read only, but not in all cases. After quite a bit of trial and error, we found that it worked (i.e. opened read/write) if Explorer happened to be already connected to a WebDav server. Note that this works with any Webdav server, not neccesarily the one with the document that you are trying to edit. So other than telling our users to change settings on their machine, is there anything we can do in the javascript sharepoint call, or on the WebDav server that will fix this issue. Ps. We have the same problem when launching Word from an HTA file version of our system, with javascript like: wordApp = new ActiveXObject("Word.application"); wordApp = new ActiveXObject("Word.application"); wordApp.Visible = true; doc = wordApp.Documents.Open(url); Pps. Sorry if you think this question should be on Serverfault (or even SuperUser).   • Https in java ends up with strange results

    I'm trying to illustrate to students how https is used in java. But i have the feeling my example is not really the best out there... The code works well on my windows 7: I start the server, go to https://localhost:8080/somefile.txt and i get asked to trust the certificate, and all goes well. When I try over http (before or after accepting the certificate) I just get a blank page, which is ok for me. BUT when I try the exact same thing on my windows XP: Same thing, all goes well. But then (after accepting the certificate first), I'm also able to get all the the files through http! (if I first try http before https followed by accepting the certificate, I get no answer..) I tried refreshing, hard refreshing a million times but this should not be working, right? Is there something wrong in my code?   • Is MS Reporting Services suitable for stand-alone reports?

    Hello all: I work for a ISV. Our product can use both SQL Server and Oracle as its back-end server. It includes a number of reports (currently in Crystal). We are investigating moving to Micrsoft Reporting Services, but I'm beginning to think that it's a bad idea. We want for our reports to look and feel as though they are a part of our application, and we will not require SQL Server (the customer can choose Oracle). Although I see the reporting services supports a stand-alone mode (RDLC), the boundry between what requires SQL server and what doesn't looks extremely ambiguous. (example, the stand-alone report builder appears to require SQL Server, most of the documentation appears to be part of SQL Server's documentation) It looks to me like if I want to keep my application DB-agnostic, I had better steer clear of Reporting Services. Have I missed the boat here?

  • How do I search & replace all occurrences of a string in a ms word doc with python?

    Hello there, I am pretty stumped at the moment. Based on http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1045628/can-i-use-win32-com-to-replace-text-inside-a-word-document I was able to code a simple template system that generates word docs out of a template word doc (in Python). My problem is that text in "Text Fields" is not find that way. Even in Word itself there is no option to search everything - you actually have to choose between "Main Document" and "Text Fields".   • MS Excel automation without macros in the generated reports. Any thoughts?

    Hello! I know that the web is full of questions like this one, but I still haven't been able to apply the answers I can find to my situation. I realize there is VBA, but I always disliked having the program/macro living inside the Excel file, with the resulting bloat, security warnings, etc. I'm thinking along the lines of a VBScript that works on a set of Excel files while leaving them macro-free. Now, I've been able to "paint the first column blue" for all files in a directory following this approach, but I need to do more complex operations (charts, pivot tables, etc.), which would be much harder (impossible?) with VBScript than with VBA. For this specific example knowing how to remove all macros from all files after processing would be enough, but all suggestions are welcome. Any good references? Any advice on how to best approach external batch processing of Excel files will be appreciated. Thanks! PS: I eagerly tried Mark Hammond's great PyWin32 package, but the lack of documentation and interpreter feedback discouraged me.

  • Why does MS SQL Mgmt Studio Express keep forgetting my passwords?

    I have about had it with this tool, I check the save password box at the login dialogue but it just doesn't work. Sometimes it will for a few days, and then the password will just be gone. Nearly every time I load this thing up I have to track down the password again and type it in. Is there some password rule in the database that would be causing this? This is driving me absolutely crazy.

    This block of code is for client.html (it is located in this www.client.com/client.html) - client side. The I have the code below that goes something like this: ajaxRequest.open("GET", "http://www.server.com/ajax.php", true); This is how I call the file ajax.php located in the server. Unfortunately I have no luck at all. It cannot connect to the server I'm calling. BTW, the ips /test site I've been using are all no restrictions, and is accessible to all. However, I tried to simulate by putting both client.html and ajax.php in same site and it works well. So my question is does this script works only if you are in same site? or does it work also in client-server scenario? Is there a way to get the path for another user of the same Windows instance? I need it so my installer program can install the templates used by my program for other users as well.

  • Which MS technologies would be suited for a data intensive application?

    I'm a junior VB.net developer with little application design knowledge. I've been reading a lot of material online regarding different design patterns, frameworks, and methodologies. It's become a bit confusing for me. Right now I'm trying to decide on what language would be best suited to convert an existing VB6 application (with SQL server backend.) I need to update the UI and add more user functionality and reporting capabilities. Initially I was thinking of using WPF and attempting the MVVM model for this big project. Reports would be generated from SSRS. A peer suggested using ASP.net and I don't have enough experience to determine what would be better. The senior programmers here are stuck on using VB6 and don't have any input on what to use. They are encouraging me to use the latest technologies. This application would be for ~20 users in a central location. Ideally I would stick to a Microsoft .net language. Current interface is similar to a datagrid table where the user would click in to see the detail of each record. They would need to have multiple records open at any given time. Internal clients within an intranet How complex are the interactions you expect to implement? not very... displaying data from SQL server to UI. Allow user updates to said data. Typically just one user modifying a record. Yes, windows xp environment, potentially upgrading to Win7. Currently in IE.6 moving to IE7 or 8 within a couple of months. Do users need access from anywhere? No, just from their PC.

    Hi, I know there are already some questions about this, but not that specific. I have the self-paced training kit and worked through the test exam tool that is on the CD coming with the book. I constantly fail on the test tool, mostly on the regex questions. I'm not a regex guru. In fact my regex-fu is more than weak. I know what regex'es are, how I can use them and where my 'Regular expressions - kurz und gut' book is in my drawer in case I really need them. And to be honest I feel like learning regex is a total waste of time, because if I need them I have either a colleague that is fit and can do them in just a few seconds or I need my book and get them right in a still fair amount of time. And from my experience I can tell that I need regex like once in two or three years. So just putting in a lot of time into learning just the expressions to pass the exam is.. something I like not to have to do.     If I run a simple query in SQL Query Analyzer, like: SELECT * FROM TableName the Messages pane always produces a message like: (30 row(s) affected) If I run a stored procedure with many statements, the messages are useless because there's no indication of what each one relates to. So firstly: Is there a way to customise the default messages on a per-query basis? E.g. I'd like a specific query to produce a message like: TableName query produced [numRowsAffected] results. replacing [numRowsAffected] with the number that would have appeared in the default message. Secondly, is there a way to suppress the default messages on a per-query basis? E.g. I have a local variable of type TABLE, used in several statements. I don't want any message to appear for statements where I'm just deleting data from that variable before re-using it. I'm seeking solutions that work in SQL Server 8.0.

  • How to synchronize two (or n) replication processes for MS SQL databases?

    There are two master databases and two read-only copies updated by standard transactional replication. It is needed to map some entity from both read-only databases, lets say that A databases contains orders and B databases contains lines. The problem is that replication to one database can lag behind replication of second database, and at the moment of mapping R-databases will have inconsistent data. For example. We stored 2 orders with lines at 19:00 and 19:03. Mapping process started at 19:05, but to the moment of mapping A database replication processed all changes up to 19:03, but B database replication processed only changes up to 19:00. After mapping we will have order entity with order as of 19:03 and lines as of 19:00. The troubles are guaranteed:) In my particular case both databases have temporal model, so it is possible to fetch data for every time slice, but the problem is to identify time of latest replication. Question: How to synchronize replication processes for several databases to avoid situation described above?

    Hi, I want to do the following two SQL Queries in Microsoft SQL SERVER UPDATE Partnerships SET sortOrder = 2 WHERE sortOrder = 1; UPDATE Partnerships SET sortOrder = 1 WHERE sortOrder = 2; The only problem is, I don't allow for sortOrder to contain the same value, it is a unique key. How could I get around this, because the first query violates the unique key rule and terminates? Or will I have to get rid of the unique key rule I have? Thanks!
