  Is it possible to add an image(view) on top of a button (which as a background image)? I'm porting an iOS app to Android and it wasn't a problem on iOS, but I'm wondering if it is the right approach on Android because of layouts. • Iframe height not adjusting with javascript in newer versions of Internet Explorer

  I have an Iframe that links to another html page. The iframe is contained within a div. I found some code that would auto adjust the high depending on the contents of the iframe. This code works fine in firefox and older versions of internet explorer but its not adjusting the height in v7 or later..... • iPhone RSS Reader -- parseXML won't Load some XML feeds

  I am using the SIMPLE RSS reading example found at http://theappleblog.com/2008/08/04/tutorial-build-a-simple-rss-reader-for-iphone/ It uses parseXML to load the RSS feeds. Here is the problem I am having. For the following RSS feed example, I am having trouble getting it to load the feed. Comes up with an error that it cannot connect. However on my Mac RSS Reader it works fine, so I know the link is good. • NoSQL replacement for memcache

  We are having a situation in which the values we store on memcache are bigger than 1MB. It is not possible to make such values smaller, and even if there was a way, we need to persist them to disk. One solution would be to recompile the memcache server to allow say 2MB values, but this is either not clean nor a complete solution (again, we need to persist the values). Good news is that We can predict quite acurately how many key/values pair we are going to have We can also predict the total size we will need. A key feature for us is the speed of memcache. So question is: is there any noSQL replacement for memcache which will allow us to have values longer than 1MB AND store them in disk without loss of speed? In the past I have used tokyotyrant/cabinet but seems to be deprecated now. Any idea?

• Running python/ruby script on iPhone?

  From the recent news from the Apple, I learned that one has to use C/C++/Objective-C for iPhone App. Accordingly, it's not possible to use MacPython or similar to make iPhone App. But as the python/ruby interpreter itself is written in C, isn't it OK to make python/ruby interpreter for iPhone to run the scripts on iphone? Is this possible? Does Apple support this? Or does someone implemented this? Or, the user should hack to do this?

• Warn user when new data is inserted on database

  I don't know how to search about this so I'm kinda lost (the two topics I saw here were closed). I have a news website and I want to warn the user when a new data is inserted on the database. I want to do that like here on StackOverflow where we are warned without reloading the page or like in facebook where you are warned about new messages/notifications without reloading. Which is the best way to do that? Is it some kind of listener with a timeout that is constantly checking the database? It doesn't sounds efficient... Thanks in advance.

  I've started to play with CRM Dynamics yesterday so this question should be seen as a very basic one. I've been coding for many years but CRM D is news to me. Apparently, one is supposed to be able to enter JavaScript code to customize the behavior of the application. I've understood that there's an API for that and that touching DOM directly or playing with jQuery is a no-no. Question: Where is the JS-code supposed to be entered? I've gone through all the menus but as far I can see, there's no spot where I could plug-in my custom code. E.g.: Where do I get to define a validation for the last name of a contact currently being defined?

  Occasionally I read news articles that mention about some computer models that computer scientists use to predict winners of some sporting events or the odds for betting which I think there must be a mathematical model behind it. I never bothered to think twice even though I am a "pseudo computer scientist" myself. With the 2010 FIFA World Cup just underway, and since I am also a "pseudo football/soccer player" myself, I just started to wonder about these calculations algorithms. For example, I know one factor is determining the strength of opponents, so that a win against a strong opponent can count more than a win against a weak opponent. But it now kind of gets in a circular loop, or at least how does one determine the strength of a team in the first place, before that team can be considered strong or weak? If it's based on a historical data then there's no way that could be accurate, because those players of the past are no longer on the fields so their impact is none (except maybe if they become coaches like Maradona) Anyway, long question short, if you're happen to be working in this field or have some knowledge, please shed some lights.

And, I believe that might be interesting for people where I live (Internet is not developed - but the cellphone networks are much better). So here are my questions: Where can I find documentation for beginners on that matter (And most importantly) Am I gonna be able to take advantage of acquired knowledge in .NET framework (C#, MVC, JQuery, XHTML, ...)? Am I gonna need my laptop or a special device to develop applications? Am I gonna need Visual Studio? And so on... • iPad --- managedObject problem when [self.tableViewSection reloadData]

  Hi , I am creating a news aggregator application that fetches a xml feed every 4 minutes. After the xml is loaded, I clear everything by deleting all the objects in the database, then save the new objects back into the database. I then call [self.tableViewSection reloadData]; to reload the tableView. Thats when I get a problem. As soon as the code gets to a section where i access the new [[managedObject valueForKey:@"event_text"] description] content it fails with a : * Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSObjectInaccessibleException', reason: 'CoreData could not fulfill a fault for '0x4b3f6a0 '' Now from the flow I described on top, it seems odd to me that the tableView is populated properly the next time i launch the application, with the "new" data I fetched in the previous session. So its not that data thats corrupt , but seems to me something goes wrong when I refetch the managedObject after saving new data. Also keep in mind thats this app runs fine on the iPhone, its the iPad thats is giving me this problem.

  Hi, I develope an application in C#.Net 2.0, Windows. The App has a RSS Feed Reader for specific sites (to collect the biggest news). I found a very nice DLL for this in which I can very easy read the RSS. But my problem is the design, I tried a lot, how to display easy, quick and nice, but it sucks like hell, I tried nerly every control in the toolbox and fill it with the RSS Feeds and it looks ugly. So knows anybody a control to display RSS feeds nicly? I know its an copy, but no one answers there.

• Problem installing wordpress child themes.

  Hi, I've tried to install either the Fusion or Thematic child themes for my blog. My Wordpress directory is located at myblog/wordpress while my domain is just myblog (example). Everything works fine with both basic themes or the parent Fusion or Thematic themes. When I install a child theme for either framework, I can view the preview and select 'activate.' However, after that my entire site crashes. I can't even view the wordpress admin panel. I've had to restore my database from my hosting provider just to get my blog working. All that I'm able to see is my favicon icon and a blank page. I've tried to deactivate all plugins and this doesn't help either. I really want to use the Hybrid News child template. Any thoughts on what might be happening? thanks so much!

  Hello, It happened that I need to pick up PHP based open source CMS. I did a small research and found many candidates. CMS made simple seems to be right choice, but I am not sure what's the current state, I know it was widely used time ago. I need it to be fully compliant with web standarts, lightweight (especially interface). It needs to be as simple as possible - basically just style and page content editing (news, maybe some image gallery) is enough. Sure content and style have to be separated from each other since content will be edited by non-programmer. One of the main goals is SEO so I'd like it to have friendly URLs. I think CMSes like Joomla, Drupal and Wordpress are too big for this project. Are there any recommendations ?

I want the script to resolve the url to an IP address as well, to store that, too. However, some of the URLs are like this: http://111.111.111.111/~example/index.php So it also needs to work with that. I'm not SURE that this is possible, but it only makes sense it would be.   Hey, How often do we see stuff like "Send this page to a friend" on a webpages? Well, I see them quite often. My question is, how do you guys see it's effectiveness? If I hit a webpage that's interesting, and I think my friend would enjoy it, I can just copy the URL from my browser bar, paste it into the email and press "Send" button. In my opinion, it's usually faster and less mistake-aware then the button/link like this on the webpage. In addition, I'm not really sure what this website does with the emails I enter there - don't they store it and then sell for $1/100 addresses to spammers? My question is - when you design a website, do you put such links on the pages (it's often seen on sites with some news/articles)? Does it even make sense?

  I have a lot of websites which are using the same CMS, and they are hosted in 3 seperated servers, only one of this servers has a problem with retrieving the title, description, and the image of any url, and in the FaceBook debugger I get this error: Could not retrieve data from URL. From previous questions, I read that the reason may be an HTML error, but as I said before on other servers there is no problem using the same CMS. You can try putting this URL for example in the debugger: http://www.shaharah.net/2010/news-10054.htm Also, other websites on the same server which are using another CMS, or is just HTML pages are also not retrieved.
