  I'm writing VBA codes for multiple Excel spreadsheets, which will be shared with others from time to time. At some point I find there are lots of duplications in my works. So I want to find a way to share codes in a sort of Excel add-in, like the .xla file. But when I tried to save the Excel file containing shared codes as .xla file, I got some problems: The file cannot be edit anymore after I save it in the default add-in folder If I move the .xls file to a folder other than the add-in folder, and open it directly - I cannot use its classes - which creates problems for sharing the codes Any ideas to create add-ins in a flexible and powerful way please? • Need to show pages without logging in (asp.net)

  Hello friends, I am using Every thing works fine except that, there are some pages like About Us, Contact Us, Privacy Policy etc, which do not need to login to view them. In my case i need to login to view all pages. I want these common pages to be viewable without having to log on.   Transparent persistence allows you to use regular objects instead of a database. The objects are automatically read from and written to disk. Examples of such systems are Gemstone and Rucksack (for common lisp). Simplified version of what they do: if you access foo.bar and bar is not in memory, it gets loaded from disk. If you do foo.bar = baz then the foo object gets updated on disk. Most systems also have some form of transactions, and they may have support for sharing objects across programs and even across a network.   I've had a look around google and this forum but could not find an answer to my question. So probably one of you can help me a little. My intended setup is: Router R1: wan connection to isp. connected backup server. provides some wireless SSID. other connected devices like printer, laptop, etc. both wired and wireless. Router R2: no wan connection to isp but connected to R2. connects mp3-streamer and music server. also serves as a wireless access point with same SSID. other than described connections only wireless connections. I would like to be able to control music even if R1 is off, e.g. with no internet connection. On the other hand I would like to access internet also in the case that R2 is off, i.e. no music access. Last but not least I would like to stream internet radio, i.e., R1 and R2 are on, and music is streamed from internet to R1 to R2 to streamer. I would like to realize all this using DHCP (also using static assignments) so i do not have to configure statically on android, laptop, etc. So my questions are: Can I make DHCP provide a list of two default gateways R1,R2? In order to make clients fallback to other gateway if currently assigned gateway is turned off? Thanks in advance, u_b

• Playing BG Music Across Activities in Android

  Hello! First time to ask a question here at stackoverflow. Exciting! Haha. We're developing an Android game and we play some background music for our intro (we have an Intro Activity) but we want it to continue playing to the next Activity, and perhaps be able to stop or play the music again from anywhere within the application. What we're doing at the moment is play the bgm using MediaPlayer at our Intro Activity. However, we stop the music as soon as the user leaves that Activity. Do we have to use something like Services for this? Or is MediaPlayer/SoundPool enough? If anyone knows the answer, we'd gladly appreciate your sharing it with us. Thanks!

• Most efficient way for testing links

  I'm currently developping an app that is going through all the files on a server and checking every single hrefs to check wether they are valid or not. Using a WebClient or a HttpWebRequest/HttpWebResponse is kinda overkilling the process because it downloads the whole page each time, which is useless, I only need to check if the link do not return 404. What would be the most efficient way? Socket seems to be a good way of doing it, however I'm not quite sure how this works. Thanks for sharing your expertise!

  Hi all, we have developed/customized an internet site that provides functionalities like sharing, swap/barter, selling and rent any object/services trough public or private galleries and/or clubs. We'd like now to expose all or some of the services to the public, so that anybody can take advantage of our engine, but without spending too much as we rae running low on budget. At the moment we have developed some RSS interfaces for the public catalogs and is possible to use JQuery to query the engine. Do you have any advices on how to proceed here? We were thinking about something simple like framset, using openID like authentication, or similar technologies. Even if can be the coolest solution, we a would like to avoid the develop soap, rest or xmlrpc APIs as it takes a lot of time ( =money ) Do you have any super smart ideas?

• Firefox won't start

  OK, I've got this problem again, only this time the problem only seems to affect Firefox and Thunderbird. Rebooted several times. Tried resetting to the last restore point, but that didn't work. Tried setting a new Firefox profile, and that didn't work either. The symptom is that you click on the Firefox or Thunderbird icon, the process appears in the Process Explorer list, but the window never opens. Curiously, if Firefox has been "started" this way, Internet Explorer hangs starting until I kill the Firefox process. Any ideas? I suppose the next thing to try is uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox/Thunderbird, but this whole thing is getting old. The box is a Sony Vaio running Windows Vista. It was completely restored from scratch less than two weeks ago, after the last fiasco. (I'm suspecting that my aborted install of Acronis True Image may have mucked things up this time.) Sigh! Another symptom: It occurred to me to try printing something, but if I open "Printers" it just sits there "searching". So something is rotten in the bowels of Windows. Minor update: It occurred to me to kill Internet Explorer (where I'd attempted printing). Then Printers comes up fairly quickly -- with no printers defined. Clicking "Add a printer" does nothing. Update: Well, following this suggestion to stop and restart the print spooler brought the printers back. And, wonder of wonders, Firefox now starts OK. Stopping and restarting the print spooler!!

  I have a list management appliaction that stores its data in a many-to-many relationship database. I.E. A note can be in any number of lists, and a list can have any number of notes. I also can export this data to and XML file and import it in another instance of my app for sharing lists between users. However, this is based on a legacy system where the list to note relationship was one-to-many (ideal for XML). Now a note that is in multiple lists is esentially split into two identical rows in the DB and all relation between them is lost. Question: How can I represent this many-to-many relationship in a simple, standard file format? (Preferably XML to maintain backwards compatibility)

  Hi, hope someone can help me on learning some new stuff about delegates in iOS-programming. I have a "MainViewController" which is the first VC when the app starts. I´ve a kind of modelselection with different UIImageViews and after choosing one of them, i´m pushing a new VC. I want to handle the modelChoice with a delegate, so all other viewControllers can listen to that and act based on the users choice. But does that mean that i have to alloc a new instance of that "MainViewController" in every VC? Whats the solution on that? How do i create (i think its called) static delegate? • Java: compile and run hanging at command prompt

  I'm having an issue that I'm hoping someone can help with. I'm working on netbook running WinXP Pro SP3, 1.6GHz & 1GB of RAM. I've got a relatively simple java program that I'm able to successfully compile and run on other computers (both XP and Win7), so I suspect my code is working fine--I've verified that all computers are running the same version of Java (build 1.7.0_02-b13). For about the past week, I get maybe three or four compiles and runs at the command prompt (running CMD from within WinXp) before I hang with a blinking cursor after keying my command and pressing enter. If I shut down the command prompt window and restart it, I can compile and run the program just fine--again, pointing to an OS/environment issue rather than code. The only system change I've made in the past week is to uninstall a Lexmark printer that I ditched a year ago, and removing/reinstalling Java. Oh, and an automatic Windows update... :\ I've used this netbook successfully for programming classes for the past year and a half. Anyone familiar with this issue and know of some system tweaks to solve it? I suspect that memory may not be getting cleaned up when the java program quits...only when CMD closes, but don't know any tools to troubleshoot. Ideas?

I've been told that shadow page tables are then used directly by the processor's paging hardware to allow memory access in the VM to execute without translation overhead. I would like to understand a bit more about how the shadow page table mechanism works in a VMM. Is my high level understanding above correct? What kind of data structures are used in the implementation of shadow page tables? What is the flow of control from the guest operating system all the way to the hardware? How are memory access translations made for a guest operating system before its shadow page table is populated? How is page sharing supported? Short of straight up reading the source code of an open source VMM, what resources can I look into to learn more about hardware virtualization?

  What is common practice for coding web applications where part of the site has to be secured (e.g. checkout section) and part not necessarily, lets say homepage. As far as I know sharing sessions in between http and https parts of the site is not easily possible (or is it?). What would be common approach if I wanted to display on http page like homepage, shopping cart data (items) that users ordered on https pages? How those two parts of the site would communicate if necessary? Also isn't it security flaw in popular shopping carts as it seems that many of these have only checkout pages secured (ssl) and the rest not? I'm using php if it makes any difference.

• Can I use meteor for this?

  I'm looking for a way to create an app which has a realtime web interface as well as an API which can be called by a node.js client while sharing most of its code. I'd like to be able to manage data, monitor and execute tasks inside of my app via browser, but also have an automation/scheduling program which connects to my web app and tells it to run various tasks and get results of each task. Unfortunately it doesn't look like I can connect to Meteor from the server, so I'm wondering if there's another approach? Is what I described even possible using Meteor? I have done some testing using socket.io and I think I may be able to do it this way, but Meteor seems like it'd be really great for the realtime user interface.

  Hi, I am comparing my cable TV wire to my network wire. In a TV cable wire, different frequencies are used by different TV channels. And since a certain channel use a fixed frequency, I think the only left way to represent different signal is with the carrier wave's amplitude. But what about the network wire? For all the network card with the same type, do they also use different frequencies to send signals just like TV cable? I vaguely remember that they use frequency adjustment to represent signals. So the frequency should not be a fixed one. So how did all the network cards that sharing the same medium differentiate their own signal from others?

SimpleDB provides an HTTP interface to data. Rather than having to write a proxy that sits inbetween SimpleDB and the client, is it possible for client software (i.e. desktop, mobile) to make calls to read values from a SimpleDB domain, without sharing credentials that shouldn't be shared? Or is a proxy in-between the only way to go?

That is, content creators will be able to sell content through our site and we take a small percentage of the revenue. Can anyone recommend an online payment service that supports this model? We're also interested in: Accept all major credit cards Being able to do international transactions in the appropriate local currency Recurring transactions (monthly, yearly, etc.) Additionally, if the service provided a Java API for integration or the ability to broker PayPal transactions that would be an added bonus. I know Amazon provides a hosted payment service, but I'd prefer not to require all of our customers to have an Amazon account. That provides an additional barrier to entry that we'd prefer to avoid. That makes the system run out of resources as these projects share some other project in the soultion which are heavy in files. Is there a way I can hookup the wcf project on a sinlge visual stodio instance that I am using to debug the asp.net web applicaiton. I do not want to combine the web and wcf project in to one.   We have two websites which only diference is in the design (Diferent images, styles, layouts..etc) but the web structure of files and cs code is the same so we want to simplify its manteinance... Another one is sharing the cs (both aspx inheriting and using the same cs) file but we never have done or seen it done in any website before so we wonder if its a good aproach... What do you think? Any other way better in terms of performance vs development-ease?

  I am trying to find out the practicalities of doing a mail merge when each “record” to be merged on includes some images. I need to: print letters And envelopes Both the letters and the envelopes have: Fixed text Fixed images Text that come from the mail merge record Images that come from the mail merge record I don’t know if all images will be the same size for every record, so a bit of simple “on the fly” automatic formatting may be needed . I need to be able to repeat a single item if I get a problem (e.g when folding the letter). What problems am I likely to have? Is Word 2007 up to this sort of mail merging, or should I be looking at a report writing tool? How do I restart a print run after a printer jam etc? What format should I store the “records” and there images in? E.g Can standard software cope with images that are stored in separate files named after the “CustomerId” that is in the “record” (I can write custom software if needed, but would rather use standard “of-the-shelf” software for the printing, I am planning on custom software for the data creation, so can output in whatever format is needed)
