• How do I stop Chrome from yellowing my site's input boxes?

  Among other text and visual aids on a form submission, post-validation, I'm coloring my input boxes red to signify the interactive area needing attention. On Chrome (and for Google Toolbar users) the auto-fill feature re-colors my input forms yellow. Here's the complex issue: I want auto-complete allowed on my forms, as it speeds users logging in. I am going to check into the ability to turn the autocomplete attribute to off if/when there's an error triggered, but it is a complex bit of coding to programmatically turn off the auto-complete for the single effected input on a page. This, to put it simply, would be a major headache. So to try to avoid that issue, is there any simpler method of stopping Chrome from re-coloring the input boxes? [edit] I tried the !important suggestion below and it had no effect. I have not yet checked Google Toolbar to see if the !important attribute woudl work for that. As far as I can tell, there isn't any means other than using the autocomplete attribute (which does appear to work).

  Hi All, Ideal situation/setup: A page containing 1 Flash movie and a separate div containing a few hyperlinks. • Multiple marker icons, how to add to google mashup

  I have created a Google maps mashup, where with a bit of input, I have managed to have a sidebar that links to a video icon/marker that then opens up an info window showing virtual tours. I would, however, like to put different coloured marker icons on the map depending on the category that the video is in. This would be easy enough to do, but my page is made up of a mixture of J-Query and JavaScript all calling to the individual flash files. Could someone help me with the code for adding extra marker icons for different categories? The first Label is styled using css, and the second with the Label's inline properties (both Labels have identical styling). But the first Label doesn't output properly, it's border is broken. If I replace the first Label's markup with plain "Hello world" text it renders properly, but it breaks again when I use markup. Can someone explain why this is happening?

  I want to position a DIV (or a TABLE) element at the center of screen irrespective of screen size. In other words, the space left on 'top' and 'bottom' should be equal and space left on 'right' and 'left' sides should be equal. How to do it? Note: I prefer a complete CSS solution, but if is not possible without Javascript then using Javascript is also fine.   While learning JavaScript, I did not get why the output when we print the array returned of the Sting.split() method (with regular expression as an argument) is as explained below. var colorString = "red,blue,green,yellow"; var colors = colorString.split(/[^\,]+/); document.write(colors); //this print 7 times comma: ,,,,,,, However when I print individual element of the array colors, it prints an empty string, three commas and an empty string: document.write(colors[0]); //empty string document.write(colors[1]); //, document.write(colors[2]); //, document.write(colors[3]); //, document.write(colors[4]); //empty string document.write(colors[5]); //undefined document.write(colors[6]); //undefined Then, why printing the array directly gives seven commas. Though I think its correct to have three commas in the second output, I did not get why there is a starting (at index 0) and ending empty string (at index 4). Please explain I am screwed up here.

• Finding missing files by checksum

  Hi there, I'm doing a large data migration between two file systems (let's call them F1 and F2) on a Linux system which will necessarily involve copying the data verbatim into a differently-structured hierarchy on F2 and changing the file names. I'd like to write a script to generate a list of files which are in F1 but not in F2, i.e. the ones which weren't copied by the migration script into the new hierarchy, so that I can go back and migrate them manually. Unfortunately for reasons not worth going into, the migration script can't be modified to list files that it doesn't migrate. My question differs from this previously answered one because of the fact that I cannot rely on filenames as a comparison. I know the basic outline of the process would be: Generate a list of checksums for all files, recursing through F1 Do the same for F2 Compare the lists and generate a negative intersection of the checksums, ignoring the file names, to find files which are in F1 but not in F2. I'm kind of stuck getting past that stage, so I'd appreciate any pointers on which tools to use. I think I need to use the 'comm' command to compare the list of file checksums, but since md5sum, sha512sum and the like put the file name next to the checksum, I can't see a way to get it to bring me a useful comparison. Maybe awk is the way to go? I'm using Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.x. Thanks.

• How do you Bind to a ComboBox in a DataTemplate?

  I have a listbox that is bound to an observable collection of Audio (custom class). The Audio class has two properties, DisplayText (string) and a property called TarpIds (Observable Collection of Integer). I need to allow the user to change the TarpID in the combo box for each list item displayed and catch the selection change. I created a DataTemplate that styles the DisplayText property from the Audio object and adds a ComboBox to display the available TarpIDs for this audio (These are dynamic and unique to each Audio). The DisplayText works great, but I can not get the TarpIDs to display in the ComboBox. Here is what I have so far and thanks for any help. • How can several different datatypes be saved in one table

  This is my situation: I am constructing an ad-like application in Django and Mysql. I am using a flexible-ad approach where we have: a table with ad categories (several categories such as home, furniture, cars, etc.) id_category name a table with details for the ad categories (home: area, squared meters. car: seats, color.) id_detail id_category (the categ the detail describes) name type (boolean, char, int, long, etc.) the ad table (i am selling a house. i am selling a car.) id_ad id_category text date a table where i plan to consolidate the details of the ads (home: A-area, 500 sq-meters. car: 5 seats, red.) id_detail_ad id_ad id_detail value Is this possible? Can I have a table of details for all the ads, even if details include numbers, texts, booleans, etc? Or would I have to save them all as text and then interpret them via code accordingly? • Why are changes to classes ignored after dom changes?

  I have a price grid that uses relative positioning to move a field around, beneath a box with: overflow: hidden;. In this is field, there are absolute-positioned boxes containing prices. When this box is hovered, the matching values above and left of the will change color. In order to achieve this, a class is toggled using jQuery. This initially works. However, after the grid is moved, the class change doesn't affect the block above the grid anymore. In the Chrome console, i can see the class being added, but it's css-styling isn't applied. No other styles for the element have changed. I am 100% sure there is no other style-rule influencing the element, it just stops responding to the change in class after the DOM has been altered. Can i 'refresh' the DOM somehow? • Recommendations for IPC between parent and child processes in .NET?

  My .NET program needs to run an algorithm that makes heavy use of 3rd party libraries (32-bit), most of which are unmanaged code. I want to drive the CPU as hard as I can, so the code runs several threads in parallel to divide up the work. I find that running all these threads simultaneously results in temporary memory spikes, causing the process' virtual memory size to approach the 2 GB limit. This memory is released back pretty quickly, but occasionally if enough threads enter the wrong sections of code at once, the process crosses the "red line" and either the unmanaged code or the .NET code encounters an out of memory error. I can throttle back the number of threads but then my CPU usage is not as high as I would like. I am thinking of creating worker processes rather than worker threads to help avoid the out of memory errors, since doing so would give each thread of execution its own 2 GB of virtual address space (my box has lots of RAM). I am wondering what are the best/easiest methods to communicate the input and output between the processes in .NET? The file system is an obvious choice. I am used to shared memory, named pipes, and such from my UNIX background. Is there a Windows or .NET specific mechanism I should use?

  Hi, This is working, but how??? I have a controller action for a post: [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post )] public ActionResult Edit(Person person) { bool isvalid = ModelState.IsValid; etc. The Person object has a property BirthDate, type DateTime. When i enter some invalid data in the form, say 'blabla' which is obvious not a valid Datetime, it fills all the (other) Person properties with the correct data and the BirthDate property with a new blank DateTime. The bool isvalid has the value 'false'. So far so good. Then i do this: return View(p); and in the view i have this: <%= Html.TextBox("BirthDate", String.Format("{0:g}", Model.BirthDate)) %> <%= Html.ValidationMessage("BirthDate", "*") %> Ant there it comes: i EXPECTED the model to contain the new, blank DateTime because i didn't put any new data in. Second, when the View displays something, it must be a DateTime, because Model.BirthDate can't hold anything but a DateTime. But to my surprise, it shows a textbox with the 'blabla' value! (and the red * behind it) Which ofcourse is nice because the user can seee what he typed wrong, but how can that (blabla)string be transferred to the View in a DateTime field?

• Returning JSON object from an ASP.NET page

  Hi, In my particular situation, I have couple of solutions to my problem. I want to find out which one is more feasible. In this case, I can also achieve my goal by returning a JSON object from my server side code, however, I do not know how it is done and what is the best way of doing it. First off, I don't need a full aspx page as I only need a response returned from code. So, do I use web services? handler? or is there any other specific way you people do this? Is this solution feasible? do I build the JSON string using the StringBuilder class and inject that string into the target aspx page? are there any precautions? or things that I should be aware of? I appreciate your ideas. Also if I wanted to fire a jquery event when a new item is added to this list, how is this achieved?

• Eclipse cannot find existing project in build path

  Here is probably one of the idiosyncrasies of Eclipse and its handling of build paths, which cannot be fixed despite all sorts of workarounds tested so far. The issue relates to a workspace of several projects, each of which compiles into its own JAR. Dependencies among the projects are resolved by adding the relevant ones to the build path (no Maven or other external tool or plugin is used), via Project -> Properties -> Java Build Path -> Projects Among all these projects, a couple (say, com.example.p1 and com.example.p2) refuse to recognize a third (and simple) one (say, com.example.p3), while all other projects do. So, although P3 is added to the build path, all related classes from P3 are imported properly and the source code of each such class is accessible by hitting F3, Eclipse keeps complaining that The import com.example.p3 cannot be resolved and SomeClass cannot be resolved to a type where com.example.p3.SomeClass is one of the P3 classes. If instead of the P3 project I put its compiled JAR in the build path, the issue disappears. However, code in P3 changes frequently and it is a time waste to keep compiling and refreshing the workspace so that the change is picked up, not to mention that this should not happen in an IDE anyway (and it does not for the other projects using P3). Among the workarounds tried are things like: Removing and adding again P1, P2, P3 Cleaning up and recompiling everything Checking whether any other project loads the P3 JAR Putting P3 at the top of the Eclipse build path "Order and Export" list Using the "Fix project setup" suggestion of Eclipse (available when hovering the mouse over the red-underlined-error compilation line). Actually, this option offers adding to the build path either P3 or its JAR, but if P3 is added, the issue reappears. Any ideas?

• QTCreator 3.1 design tab not working

  I’m currently using QtCreator 3.1 and qt-everywhere-opensource-src-5.2.1 on Ubuntu 12.04 My project is correctly working, i.e., i can build it and run without any trouble. But i’ve got some problems with the design tab inside Qtcreator. First, on all qml file (even with example projects), i have an error message “Using Qt Quick code model instead of Qt Quick2 (M324) (4:1)” and i can’t use the design editor. Second, on qml files with other import than QtQuick 2.2 (for me QtQml.Models 2.1 and QtQuick.Controls 1.1), the import is underlined in red with the error message “QML module not found”. I’ve tried to edit the .pro file by adding QML2_IMPORT_PATH=/home/user/qt-everywhere-opensource-src-5.2.1/qtquickcontrols/qml/QtQuick/Controls/ (also tried with QML_IMPORT_PATH), it doesn’t work. Then, I tried to add it to my path in a terminal using “export QML_IMPORT_PATH=/home/user/qt-everywhere-opensource-src-5.2.1/qtquickcontrols/qml/QtQuick/Controls/” and this time, in the error message, i can see the added path in the error message, but it still doesn’t work. Anyone has an idea to help me ? Thx !

• How can I make VS2010 insert using statements in the order dictated by StyleCop rules.

  The related default StyleCop rules are: Place using statements inside namespace. Sort using statements alphabetically. But ... System using come first (still trying to figure out if that means just using System; or using System[.*];). So, my use case: I find a bug and decide that I need to at least add an intelligible Assert to make debugging less painful for the next guy. So I start typing Debug.Assert( and intellisense marks it in Red. I hover mouse over Debug and between using System.Diagnostics; and System.Diagnostics.Debug I choose the former. This inserts using System.Diagnostics; after all other using statements. It would be nice if VS2010 did not assist me in writing code that won't build due to warnings as errors. How can I make VS2010 smarter? Is there some sort of setting, or does this require a full-fledged add-in of some sort?

• what can cause large discrepancy between minor GC time and total pause time?

  We have a latency-sensitive application, and are experiencing some GC-related pauses we don't fully understand. We occasionally have a minor GC that results in application pause times that are much longer than the reported GC time itself. Here is an example log snippet: 485377.257: [GC 485378.857: [ParNew: 105845K-621K(118016K), 0.0028070 secs] 136492K-31374K(1035520K), 0.0028720 secs] [Times: user=0.01 sys=0.00, real=1.61 secs] Total time for which application threads were stopped: 1.6032830 seconds The total pause time here is orders of magnitude longer than the reported GC time. These are isolated and occasional events: the immediately preceding and succeeding minor GC events do not show this large discrepancy. The process is running on a dedicated machine, with lots of free memory, 8 cores, running Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES Release 4 Update 8 with kernel 2.6.9-89.0.1EL-smp. We have observed this with (32 bit) JVM versions 1.6.0_13 and 1.6.0_18. We are running with these flags: -server -ea -Xms512m -Xmx512m -XX:+UseConcMarkSweepGC -XX:NewSize=128m -XX:MaxNewSize=128m -XX:+PrintGCDetails -XX:+PrintGCTimeStamps -XX:+PrintGCApplicationStoppedTime -XX:-TraceClassUnloading Can anybody offer some explanation as to what might be going on here, and/or some avenues for further investigation?
