    I would like to have one of my PCs available to the rest of my home network for file sharing and VNC access, but I want to block any Internet traffic going to and from the PC. In other words, I want all local PCs I have connected to the router functioning as any normal LAN would, but when it comes to the Internet I want one particular PC to be "safe" from the Internet. My guess is that this is some sort of port blocking or some other router function, but I'm not quite sure.

If I install a virtual machine (VirtualBox) to test, and it does get infected with viruses, will it also infect my host system? In other words, can I use the virtual machine for testing without being concerned about a virus on the virtual machine infecting my host?

    I'm setting up a Squid forward proxy and I'm wondering if I could configure Squid in such a way that the connection from my web browser to squid is https regardless of whether the connection from squid to the destination website is http or https. In other words, I want my connection from my web browser to my forward proxy to be encrypted even though I'm just surfing normal http website through that proxy. Can it be done?

    Ever since i installed windows 8, I'm unable to use Ctrl + Shift + Arrow Keys (to select words and phrases quickly in text editors) with any program. Ive found the same issue with other models of Logitech keyboards (not with any other brand, though) however, the solutions provided to those other models aren't working for me (or are impossible to complete, because of the difference in the model) If you have a possible solution, please reply!     For an Microsoft Exchange server, is it possible to encrypt the email database such that the sysadmin cannot see the emails? In other words, the admin would be responsible for all aspects of running the Windows server and Exchange process, but would not be able to see the contents of any one email (except those sent to him, obviously). Only another individual (e.g. company owner) would be able to see all emails contained in the database.

    I would like to create a rule that moves anything with the words "SUCCESS * BenchmarResults", where the * indicates a wildcard to a specific folder. We have multiple systems that will be put in place of the *. We have emails that will return "WARNING * BenchmarkResults" that I don't want the rule applied to. I know I can create a seperate rule for each of our systems, but I want this rule to be dymanic where I can add new benchmark emails without creatting a new rule.

    Already working: Debian box DHCP with send host-name me.company.com in dhclient.conf DNS updates automatically with an entry for me.company.com What I want to add: Send a second host-name, so both are automatically registered with DNS In other words: I want a DHCP client to register with DNS twice using different names, preferably without having to maintain DNS records manually. Is this even possible with DHCP?

  • How to allow only specific directories to use htaccess?

    Currently in apache2.conf I have AllowOverride all set for /var/www which simply allows htaccess for all the sites on the server (which is Ubuntu, 9.04). However, I'd rather only allow overrides in each site root directory and nothing else. In other words, /var/www/site1, /var/www/site2, etc. can have a htaccess, but all other directories including /var/www and /var/www/site1/content cannot. Is there a way to do this without having to write a rule for every site on the server?

In other words, say I have a device, /dev/mouse0 and I want to find out which kernel module is installed to service that device. How do I do that? Another way to look at this is, some loaded kernel modules associate themselves with a device in /dev. How does one find out which device(s) a module is "attached" to?

  • Weird cyrillic characters behavior after uploading to Ubuntu production server

    When i upload my rails app via SFTP to production server which is running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS all cyrillic characters in my files look like this: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/347209/chars.png As you can see, only parts of words are broken. And because of this rails app doesn't start with syntax error. Also i'm getting errors like ActionView::Template::Error (incompatible character encodings: ASCII-8BIT and UTF-8)
