SharePoint 2010 Server Configuration Error -> "Cannot connect to database master"

I recieve the following error when I try to configure SharePoint 2010 Server: "Cannot connect to the database master at SQL server at [computer.domain]. The database might not exist, or the current user does not have permission to connect to it." Can't access internet using a domain joined computer outside the domain environment

We had an unused box at work so took it home. It had been joined to the domain and hasn't been unjoined. When I try to use it at home (logging in with a local admin account) I can't seem to access internet pages. It gets correct IP and gateway for the local network and correct DNS servers for the home ADSL connection. I can happily ping the home router (which doesn't have any tricky firewall settings). Can't seem to ping outside, get any DNS to resolve, or (obviously) get any web pages. Is there some problem here with this having been joined to the domain?

Share laptop Wi-Fi with router set up as access point via ethernet cables

I have an ADSL modem which serves as a wireless router. There's a laptop connected to it through cable. On the other room I have a laptop which is connected through the router wirelessly. Since I have other appliances that need to get connected but are not Wi-Fi capable I have another Wi-Fi router. How can I share the second laptop's Wi-Fi with the second router so that the router can then serve as an access point to give internet to my other appliances through ethernet cables? I want something like this: INTERNETMODEM (WIFI)LAPTOP 1 (WIFI)LAPTOP 2 (WIFI)Router 2 (ETHERNET)DREAMBOX & WDTV What I've tried so far is opened the admin interface of router 2 then set static IP 192.168.100.13 and disabled the DHCP. The DHCP of the main router starts with 192.168.100.1 then I hooked up router 2 with the laptop 2 through Cat5 cable but for some reason it's not working.

Trying To Uninstall Exchange 2007 From Server - Stuck On "Mailbox Role Checks"

Hi All, I am trying to uninstall Exchange 2007 on a secodary server which has been decommissioned for quite a while (cleaning up after an old Network Admin). The only roll the server had was "Mailbox Role" (the primary server also has this). I have tried uninstalling using Programs and Features GUI tool but that hung on Mailbox Role Checks. I then tried uninstalling Exchange by running Setup.com /mode:uninstall. It has been stuck on 1% of "Mailbox Role Checks" for over 3 hours now. Is there any other options I have for uninstalling Exchange 2007 so the old server can be removed from the Exchange Management console?

I works great currently, but I would like to add some security: People from LAN should be able to Read files present and Add new ones, but not delete files. I want to keep this privilege for me ;-) How should-I do this? I have set up a "admin" account having full access even to deletion. There is just left to configure the "guest" acount. Google isn't helping that much right now...

Authenticating Mountain Lion over Ubuntu 12 LDAP [closed]

Possible Duplicate: Ubuntu OpenLDAP and Mac OS X Roaming Profiles I've installed slapd on Ubuntu 12 after a long long day of trial and error. I've added the apple.ldif schema, and the samba.ldif schema, plus a test user. Last week, I had installed slapd on Ubuntu 11, and was able to authenticate against it from OS X Lion after finding the following blog post: Fixing OpenLDAP Authentication on OS X Lion This suggests running the following commands to fix the authentication problem /usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c "add ':module options:ldap:Denied SASL Methods:' string CRAM-MD5" /Library/Preferences/OpenDirectory/Configurations/LDAPv3/yourldapserver.plist /usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c "add ':module options:ldap:Denied SASL Methods:' string NTLM" /Library/Preferences/OpenDirectory/Configurations/LDAPv3/yourldapserver.plist /usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c "add ':module options:ldap:Denied SASL Methods:' string GSSAPI" /Library/Preferences/OpenDirectory/Configurations/LDAPv3/yourldapserver.plist However, I ran these commands on OS X Mountain Lion, and I am still unable to authenticate. Remote call script as administrator

I created a Windows XP bat script to modify etc/hosts file. I want to share this script at other machine, then from another computer I want to invoke these script to modify hosts file at first computer (via LAN). I need some example. I didn't find any example. Is this possible? I try: runas/user:username block.bat On the same machine login as guest but it doesn't work. No errors just "Attempting to call block.bat" and end of invocation. As admin script works ok. Could someone give me any advice?

No win 7 users available for login after dell datasafe factory reset

I created install discs using the Dell datasafe 2.0 backup utility in order to re-install windows on a friend's laptop (dell inspiron n5110). I ran the discs to do a factory reset. after the whole process, it booted, started loading windows 7, displayed the messages "setup is preparing your computer for first use" and "setup is checking video performance," and showed the login screen. However, there don't seem to be any active users on the machine - I opened a command prompt window to check the users on the machine. Using the command prompt (again, from the login window), i activated/enabled the administrator account, and even created another admin account, and upon logging in received several errors, couldn't load any mmc's, etc. any help would be appreciated.

OS X Server App ail not accept login credentials

I cannot login to the server app and i know for sure all the login info is right. every time i enter my password the name window shakes to tell me it's invalid. I never post unless I'm out of ideas and I need it to be up so I can host my splash page tonight. i've spoken with "certified apple" specialists at some local mac stores and they are stumped too. Something is going on with the apache server, that's all i know for sure. I'll be monitoring this closely so any requests for info, etc. can be filled instantly. Thanks in advance. here's a few things i've noticed: I can ssh successfully into the server address as both root and admin. I've been fussing with the workgroup manager and could use guidance if that's where the problem lies. console shows this message repeatedly (org.apache.httpd[1890]) Exited with code: 1). I can log into iSeries Navigator, navigate to schema functions permissions and change the permission for public from Exclude to All. bam it works. How do I grant permission to all, either in the CREATE FUNCTION or after?

Should I install Windows Management Framework 3.0?

I'm posting this as a BIG CAVEAT to everyone. I know it's not a standard Q&A, but I think this is someone every Windows admin should know. There is a very real risk of falling into Big Troubles. Microsoft has recently released Windows Management Framework 3.0 for Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2 systems, which includes some nice things native to Windows Server 2012 (like PowerShell 3.0) and lots of improvements to WMI, WinRM and other management technologies. Windows Update is advertising it as an optional update. Should I install it on my servers?

Snippets between desktop and laptop

The Situation: At work, I have a nice beefy desktop running Windows Server 2008 R2 (SharePoint dev machine). My handy ThinkPad is right next to it. Every once in a while I'd like to cut and paste or share something (usually text) between the machines: for example, I might be headed out and I'd like to take send the URL I'm reading from the desktop to the laptop. Of course I can create a share or use the Admin shares and create files to get stuff back and forth, but that seems heavyweight for what I'm thinking of. I'm thinking more along the lines of sending myself an IM. How do you get little things from machine to machine? Keep a shared folder pinned to the taskbar? Send an email to yourself? Bookmark sync? While on it, I'm looking for a decent multiple clipboard handler: maybe these two functions are combined in some nice little utility? I suspect I'm missing something simple here... Thanks... Is it Secure to Grant Apachie User Ownership of Directories & Files for Wordpress

I'm currently setting up WordPress on an Ubuntu server 12 everything runs fine but there is an issue when it comes to automatically updating and uploading media via WP as Apache "www-data" user does not have permissions to write to the directories. "user1" has full permission All my directories have permissions of 0755 and files 644 my directories setup is as follows: /home/user1/public_html All WP files and directories are in "public_html" In order to work around the auto updating and uploading media I've granted Apache user ownership to the following directories sudo chown www-data:www-data wp-content -R sudo chown www-data:www-data wp-includes -R sudo chown www-data:www-data wp-admin -R I would like to know security wise how secure this is and if it is not secure what would be the best solution? That will allow me to keep all files and directories owned by user1 and still allow wp to be able to automatically update and uploading media

Can't SSH to remote server,how to avoid this

From time to time,we suffer problems like we can not remote connect to our server via ssh.So we have to send someone on site to restart the computer for this problem.It causes a lot of pain.The situation is we have to remote connect to our server,which are very important like database server and application server and etc.We have met problems like ssh hang,like command ssh [email protected] with no response. when using ssh -v debug mode, it says : debug1: Connection established. debug1: identity file /.ssh/identity type -1 debug1: identity file /.ssh/id_rsa type -1 debug1: identity file /.ssh/id_dsa type -1 debug1: loaded 3 keys and we met this situation many times with no clue how to solve it.Is any log which can identify this problem? or Is there a tool for this problem? help needed!Any idea are appreciated.

OSX 10.8 Corrupted User Account Using Launchctl

I used the following command: launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchAgents/com.apple.notificationcenterui.plist in an attempt to disable notification center. I'm not sure that I got all of the commands right and appear to have corrupted the account that I executed it from - I get a grey screen when I try to login on that account. Fortunately I have another account on the machine with admin privileges so I can still use the machine. I would however like to restore the account to a working condition preferably without having to resort to a complete system restore from my time machine backup. Is there a way of diagnosing the current status of this launchagent and returning it to its original state?

Securing a Windows Server 2008 R2 Public Web Server

I'm setting up a public web server: Windows Server 2008 R2, IIS7.5. Does anyone have a tutorial / walkthrough / tips on properly securing a public web server? I've seen a few tutorials but mostly focused on Windows Server 2003. What I've done so far: Created a specific user account for the website / app pool, Renamed Admin account, Installed FTPS, Configured firewall to block any non-public service (web / https), Configured firewall to allow access to management interfaces only from specific IP addresses (rdp, IIS management, ftp) Maybe a few other things but can't remember at the moment... ICMP is allowed... Should I disable all except ping? Port scan reveals only web and https ports. Any other suggestions? Thanks

Apache Server access log shows another domain's request and got redirected

I am anxious about: 1. is the server acting as open proxy? 2. why http 301 is returned? Thx.

Default permissions for courier imap folders

I'm using courier imap. When a mail client creates a new folder, it's created on the filesystem with 640 permission. I need it to be writable by the group, or 660. I currently have /etc/courier/imapd IMAP_UMASK=007, but that's not enough. I'm not sure what else to try. Any ideas? I'm using ubuntu server 12.04. EDIT: I added a 50pt bounty to this. For an acceptable answer, I need a way to make it work from a package in a standard repo. If I download source and compile it myself, it won't be automatically kept up to date with security fixes. If I don't find a better answer, I'll add code to the admin script to call another sudo approved script to chmod -R the whole directory before every change. But this is kind of hack-ish.

What FTP clients securely handle FTP/TLS where the server has a self-signed cert?

I'm trying to connect to an FTP server that uses TLS on port 990. Unfortunately, the server uses a self-signed cert. What FTP clients for Windows handle this type of connection securely, such that I can securely verify the cert before continuing with the connection and logging in? (The server admin has supplied me with the expected certificate thumbprint to look for.) As an example of doing it wrongly, Core FTP LE 2.2 presents a dialog with basic information about the cert presented, inviting me to accept-once, accept-always or cancel. The dialog does not include the cert's hash/thumbprint and without that thumprint, I can't verify if the cert I'm being presented is the right one.

How can you make a Windows USB HDD Modify All for All Users

Hi, I use a USB HDD a lot between lots of different Windows Boxes. What I find after a while is that there get to be lots of different Permission on the files in some cases stopping me looking at files or removing them. They want Admin rights or even sometimes you need to put the disk back into the original machine with the original user. This is a right pain. Is there away of making the disk have Modify All for All Users and making this the default for all files on the disk. Thanks

Need help connecting to NAS externally-port forwarding and DDNS newbie

Hi folks, I just picked up a synology NAS, and I'm loving it for internal use, but I want to be able to access the NAS externally-both from my iPhone (3G) and from the net. I have a Linksys WRT54G-TM router. My first question is whether I have set up the dyndns correctly. On my computer that is on my network, if I put in mydomain.dyndns.org, I am taken to a password popup and when I enter my router login and password, my router admin page opens up. On the same computer, I get the same results if I use my external IP address, and if I use my internal IP 192.168.0.1 So that is all as expected. However, when I go to my iphone and turn off wifi, and try to connect with 3g to the external IP or the dnydns domain, I just get an error "Safari could not open the page because the server stopped responding". What's up?
