• Poll database using jQuery/Ajax

  Hi guys, I am trying to use jQuery (latest version) & ajax to poll a mysql db every x seconds, post.php does a simple search query on the table and limits to 1 row. (eg SELECT id FROM TABLE LIMIT 1) I've got some other jQuery UI (using v1.8) code that displays some modal/dialog boxes on the screen, simply put if post.php returns something from the db I need to initialise the dialog to pop up onto the screen. I've done all the popup stuff I am just having issues joining all these bits together - i've added some pseudo code of how i expect this to work. • ASP.Net MVC - which is the best approach for multi select grouping using JQuery Dialog

  This is my scenario I have an view(page) with list of items, a user could select single or multiple items from this page and click on a "Add to Group" button. Then a modal dialog(JQuery dialog) will be shown, from that he could select group, then press the add button. Which causes the items selected in the parent page is added to that particular group. So, which is the best way to pass the selected items to the modal pop-up? Though the query string ? - what happens if the no:of items selected is large, will the url support that much characters Keep the list in the parent page in a javascript variable and return the selected group from the modal pop-up?   Hi all, I'm writing an Android application and I would like to place a dialog or view over the home screen so that a user can enter text without jumping into my full application. I can't seem to get this to work. If I present a dialog (even in a transparent activity), my application launches. If you don't know what I'm talking about, take a look at the Facebook widget. I want to replicate a similar behavior to the clicking on the "What's on your mind?" box. Thanks for any help in advance! -Brian

• jQuery UI Slider Problem

  I have been using jQuery sliders for about a week now without issues in my project, but I just hit an issue. I am adding 3 sliders to my page All 3 are added exact same way (like this): $('#slider_id').slider({value:100,'slide':function(e, ui){// some code}}); 2 work properly One does not work (it gives me a fiebug error 'f is undefined') when I drag the slider handle The only glaring difference I can see is that the one giving the error is inside of a jQuery UI dialog(). Interestingly, when I place it outside of the dialog, it works! So, wondering if there are known issues with sliders inside dialogs, and/or if there are any workarounds. Thanks

  Hi, I have been monitoring the parameters a website receives when a file is uploaded (via an input type="file"). Surprisingly, the parameter and its value were looking like this : parameter: upfile value: filename="this is the name of the uploaded file.png" Content-type: image/x-png Now in this POST request to the server page, the file name and its type is passed into a parameter, but what about the path to that filename? Where is that path stored so that the server page can upload the file at the good location? Also, I would like to know if it would be possible by any way to specify a path, NOT to the input type="file" since its impossible, but to the server (though this question probably depends a lot on how the server-side page is scripted). • How to remove the file which has opened handles?

  PROBLEM HISTORY: Now I use Windows Media Player SDK 9 to play AVI files in my desktop application. It works well on Windows XP but when I try to run it on Windows 7 I caught an error - I can not remove AVI file immediately after playback. The problem is that there are opened file handles exist. On Windows XP I have 2 opened file handles during the playing file and they are closed after closing of playback window but on Windows 7 I have already 4 opened handles during the playing file and 2 of them remain after the closing of playback window. They are become free only after closing the application. QUESTION: How can I solve this problem? How to remove the file which has opened handles? May be exists something like "force deletion"?   Hi Everyone! I get files in different formats coming from different systems that I need to import into our database. Part of the import process it to check the line length to make sure the format is correct. We seem to be having issues with files coming from UNIX systems where one character is added. I suspect this is due to the return carriage being encoded differently on UNIX and windows platform. Is there a way to detect on which file system a file was created, other than checking the last character on the line? Or maybe a way of reading the files as text and not binary which I suspect is the issue? Thanks Guys !

• Transparent Dialog Alignment

  I'm trying to get a custom dialog with a transparent background doing this way: this.getWindow().setBackgroundDrawableResource(R.drawable.transparent); (where "R.drawable.transparent" is a reference to the color "#00000000") The weird issue on this is that I can't align my dialog window. It's always aligned to the left, even if I implicit set the Gravity of the window using: this.getWindow().setGravity(Gravity.CENTER); And if I just comment the line which set the transparent background, the alignment works fine. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks.

  I've created a custom UIViewController that mimics the UISplitViewController. It manages two child view controllers that get displayed in the left & right body area while in landscape and hides the left to show in a popover when in portrait. It works fine, using the didRotateFromInterfaceOrientation: and willRotateToInterfaceOrientation: messages to reset the location and sizing of the child views. All the views and child controllers are loaded from a nib. This custom view controller is shown inside a UINavigationController. The trouble arises after one of the child view controllers uses presentModalViewController. If the device was rotated after the views were initialized (but before the modal controller is shown), after the modal dialog is dismissed, the left and/or body views will be re-rendered in a different rotation than they were before the modal dialog was changed. I'm wondering if folks have had a similar problem, and what the solution is. I'm sure sample code would be helpful, but it'll take a bunch of work to distill it into a runnable sample.

  hey guys, i've a problem with progress dialog on opening an activity (called activity 2 in example). The activity 2 has a lot of code to execute in this OnCreate event. final ProgressDialog myProgressDialog = ProgressDialog.show(MyApp.this,getString(R.string.lstAppWait), getString(R.string.lstAppLoading), true); new Thread() { public void run() { runOnUiThread(new Runnable() { @Override public void run() { showApps(); } }); myProgressDialog.dismiss(); } }.start(); The showApps function launch activity 2. if i execute this code on my button click event on activity 1, i see the progress, but she doesn't move and afeter i have a black screen during 2 or 3 seconds the time for android to show the activity. If i execute this code in the OnCreate of Activity2 and if i replace the showApps by the code on OnCreate, Activity1 freeze 2 seconds, i don't see the progress dialog, and freeze again 2 seconds on activity 2 before seeing the result. An idea ?

• ASP.NET JavaScript Routing for ASP.NET MVC–Constraints

A routing constraint is essentially a way for the routing engine to filter out route patterns based on the day from the URL. For example, if I have a route where all the parameters are required, I could use a constraint on the required parameters to say that the parameter is non-empty. Here’s what the constraint would look like: Notice that this is a class that inherits from IRouteConstraint, which is an interface provided by System.Web.Routing. The match method returns true if the value is a match (and can be further processed by the routing rules) or false if it does not match (and the route will be matched further along the route collection). Because routing constraints are so essential to the route matching process, it was important that they be part of my JavaScript routing engine. But the problem is that we need to somehow represent the constraint in JavaScript. I made a design decision early on that you MUST put this constraint into JavaScript to match a route. I didn’t want to have server interaction for the URL generation, like I’ve seen in so many applications. While this is easy to maintain, it causes maintenance issues in my opinion. So the way constraints work in JavaScript is that the constraint as an object type definition is set on the route manager. When a route is created, a new instance of the constraint is created with the specific parameter. In its current form the constraint function MUST return a function that takes the route data and will return true or false. You will see the NotEmpty constraint in a bit. Another piece to the puzzle is that you can have the JavaScript exist as a string in your application that is pulled in when the routing JavaScript code is generated. There is a simple interface, IJavaScriptAddition, that I have added that will be used to output custom JavaScript. Let’s put it all together. Here is the NotEmpty constraint. There’s a few things at work here. The constraint is called “notEmpty” in JavaScript. When you add the constraint to a parameter in your C# code, the route manager generator will look for the JsConstraint attribute to look for the name of the constraint type name and fallback to the class name. For example, if I didn’t apply the “JsConstraint” attribute, the constraint would be called “NotEmpty”. The JavaScript code essentially adds a function to the “constraintTypeDefs” object on the “notEmpty” property (this is how constraints are added to routes). The function returns another function that will be invoked with routing data. Here’s how you would use the NotEmpty constraint in C# and it will work with the JavaScript routing generator. The only catch to using route constraints currently is that the following is not supported: The constraint will work in C# but is not supported by my JavaScript routing engine. (I take pull requests so if you’d like this… go ahead and implement it).   I just wanted to take this post to explain a little bit about the background on constraints. However, the last step which says to change the CHMOD of a folder, I got an error saying that the directory does not exist. Open Office now appears in my Ubuntu start menu, but clicking on it does nothing. I tried a reboot. Below is what I could copy from my terminal. I am running the latest Ubuntu. I have not uninstalled Libreoffice as suggested somewhere. • Permission denied error when trying to install with wubi

  I run into problem when tried to install Ubuntu 11.04 on Windows 7 using wubi installer . It downloads the image for sometime and ends up with the error that says Permission denied: for more details see the log file In the log it seems to be like DownloadError: Problem connecting to tracker - urlopen error (10060, 'Operation timed out') but my network is good and I checked it. Tried using wubi several times, but ends up with same problem. • MySQL Workbench will not open on my Ubuntu 12.04

  I have install mysql-workbench version 5.2.38+dfsg-3 via Ubuntu Software Center on my Ubuntu 12.04 laptop for some week ago, This work fine until now! Now when I press in the mysql-workbench icon in the Unity lanuncher, It just start opening and then nothing happens :( If I try start it via the terminal: I get this: http://paste.ubuntu.com/1004428/ UPDATE: I can open it via: sudo mysql-workbench But then is can save my passwords.. it says: voidcode@voidcode-Aspire-5750:~$ sudo mysql-workbench [sudo] password for voidcode: ** Message: Gnome keyring daemon seems to not be available.
