• Open PDF Content files in ASP.NET MVC 2

  I want to provide simple href links to my PDF forms that reside in my Forms folder. I have a created a simple Index.aspx and FormController Index action that simple iterates through the list of PDF files using my FormMetaData.xml file. The links get created just fine but when you click on the links I get a 404 exception. That looks like this: Server Error in '/' Application. The resource cannot be found. Description: HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. Please review the following URL and make sure that it is spelled correctly. Requested URL: /Forms/ccindteamgolfform.pdf Version Information: Microsoft .NET Framework Version:2.0.50727.4927; ASP.NET Version:2.0.50727.4927 This seems like this should open up a new browser window with the PDF in it but perhaps I am making a bad assumption. The PDF content files have Build Action of Content and Copy to Output set to Copy Always. Do I need to add a MapRoute for these documents? Or am I missing something else with the routing? This seems like it should not be that difficult.

• Xcode 5 - remove storyboard and start app with a .xib

  I've tried to follow the instructions on this Question. But I must not be doing something correctly because I am still getting a SIGABRT before I even get into the ViewController methods. Here are the steps: Copied all items on the view in the story board and pasted into the new xib view. Copied all contents of .h and .m view controller files into the new ones for the xib. Changed the Main nib file base name to the new xib name in the info.plist file. Tried to change the owner but I don't know if I'm doing that correctly. Edited the appdelegate didFinishLaunchingWithOptions file as follows: - (BOOL)application:(UIApplication *)application didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:(NSDictionary *)launchOptions { self.window = [[UIWindow alloc] initWithFrame:[[UIScreen mainScreen] bounds]] ; // Override point for customization after application launch. Has Apple made it impossible to remove the storyboard? I'm creating an SDK. I don't want a storyboard. But I do need one xib that is rotatable. Help?

• Alternate widgets and logic for ManyToManyField with Django forms

  In my Django project, I have a simple ticket system. When creating a ticket, certain users have the ability to assign the ticket to other users, and to email the ticket to other users as well (this is used as an FYI for those users, so they're aware of the ticket, even though it's not assigned to them.) At the moment, the form for adding a ticket is simply the default Django form, with the "assigned_to" and "email_to" fields being ManyToManyFields, and therefore displayed as MultipleSelect widgets, each with a list of all users. Due to the relatively large number of users, and general awkwardness of the MultipleSelect widget, and alternate layout is now required. The desired layout is a pair of simple Select widgets side-by-side. The first has the option of "Assign to" or "Email to" and the second is a list of the users. Essentially, like this: [Assign to] [John Doe] [Email to] [Jane Roe] [Jack Smith], etc. Of course, since an arbitrary number of users can be assigned or emailed a ticket, there's a simple button that runs some Javascript to add another set of widgets, to allow the user to assign and email as many people as they need to. So far all of that is fairly simple and straight forward. However, the problem I have is using this widget setup/logic setup with Django forms. Instead of lists of users to assign to and email, instead we're getting back pairs of information, one a user and the other which list that user should be placed in. What I'm looking for, but have yet to find, is a way to offload the translation between how the user uses the form, and how Django understands the model to the form itself, so I don't have to manually do the processing of the data before passing it to the form in each place this form is used. Additionally, there's a review screen with the option to go back and change the form before submitting it, so a way to have the form translate both to and from this format would be extremely helpful.

• Raising C# events with an extension method - is it bad?

  We're all familiar with the horror that is C# event declaration. To ensure thread-safety, the standard is to write something like this: public event EventHandler SomethingHappened; protected virtual void OnSomethingHappened(EventArgs e) { var handler = SomethingHappened; if (handler != null) handler(this, e); } Recently in some other question on this board (which I can't find now), someone pointed out that extension methods could be used nicely in this scenario.   I've been beating my head on the desk tring to figure this one out. I have a table that stores job information, and reasons for a job not being completed. The reasons are numeric,01,02,03,etc. You can have two reason for a pending job. If you select two reasons, they are stored in the same column, seperated by a comma. This is anExample from the JOBID table: Job_Number User_Assigned PendingInfo 1 user1 01,02 Now, there is another table named Pending, that stores what those values actually represent. 01=Not enough info, 02=Not enough time, 03=Waiting Review. Example: Pending_Num PendingWord 01 Not Enough Info 02 Not Enough Time What I'm trying to do is query the database to give me all the job numbers, users, pendinginfo, and pending reason. I can break out the first value, but can't figure out how to do the second. • Rails does not display error messages on a form in a custom method

  Hi all, I've created a custom method called checkout in my app. I create an order (which is done my adding products to my "cart"), assign it to my client, and then I head to my checkout screen where I confirm the items and enter their customer order number and complete the order (submit). Everything works great except that it doesn't display error messages. I'm able to display a flash error notice (seen in complete_order method) when things go wrong but it doesn't specify the details like a normal form would. The error messages should appear if the customer order number is not unique for that client. Below is the custom method (checkout) related code.   Hi, I have written what I hope is a lightweight alternative to using the ManualResetEvent and AutoResetEvent classes in C#/.NET. The reasoning behind this was to have Event like functionality without the weight of using a kernel locking object. Although the code seems to work well in both testing and production, getting this kind of thing right for all possibilities can be a fraught undertaking and I would humbly request any constructive comments and or criticism from the StackOverflow crowd on this. Hopefully (after review) this will be useful to others. Usage should be similar to the Manual/AutoResetEvent classes with Notify() used for Set().   hi, For the development process I have involved so far, most have teams of SINGLE member, or occasionally two. We used python + django for the major development, the development process is actually very fast, and we do have code reviews, design pattern discussions, and constant refactoring. Though team size is small, I do think there are some development processes / best practices that could be enforced. For example, using svn would be definitely better than regular copy backup. I did read some articles & books about Agile, XP & continuous integration, I think they are nice, but still too heavy for this case (team of 1 or 2, and fast coding). For example, IMHO, with nice design pattern, and iterative development + refactoring, the TDD MIGHT be an overkill, or at least the overhead does not out-weight the advantages. And so is the pair programming. The automated testing is a nice idea, but it seems not technically feasible for every project. our current practices are: svn + milestone + code review I wonder if there are development processes / best practices specifically targeted on such super light teams? thanks.

What i want to do now is to create a ranking of the most active users in the last 4 weeks. Of course good reviews should be weighted more than good comments. But also e.g. 10 good comments should be weighted more than just one good review. • UITableViewCell imageView images loading small even when they are the correct size!

  Im having an issue whilst loading images into a UITableViewCell after an asynchronous download and placement into an UIImage variable.. The images appear smaller than they actually are! But when scrolled down and scrolled back up to the image, or the whole table is reloaded, they appear at the correct size... • Creating a smart text generator

  I'm doing this for fun (or as 4chan says "for teh lolz") and if I learn something on the way all the better. I took an AI course almost 2 years ago now and I really enjoyed it but I managed to forget everything so this is a way to refresh that. Anyway I want to be able to generate text given a set of inputs. Basically this will read forum inputs (or maybe Twitter tweets) and then generate a comment based on the learning. Now the simplest way would be to use a Markov Chain Text Generator but I want something a little bit more complex than that as the MKC basically only learns by word order (which word is more likely to appear after word x given the input text). I'm trying to see if there's something I can do to make it a little bit more smarter. For example I want it to do something like this: Learn from a large selection of posts in a message board but don't weight it too much For each post: Learn from the other comments in that post and weigh these inputs higher Generate comment and post See what other users' reaction to your post was. If good weigh it positively so you make more posts that are similar to the one made, and vice versa if negative. It's the weighing and learning from mistakes part that I'm not sure how to implement. I thought about Artificial Neural Networks (mainly because I remember enjoying that chapter) but as far as I can tell that's mainly used to classify things (i.e. given a finite set of choices [x1...xn] which x is this given input) not really generate anything. I'm not even sure if this is possible or if it is what should I go about learning/figuring out. What algorithm is best suited for this? To those worried that I will use this as a bot to spam or provide bad answers to SO, I promise that I will not use this to provide (bad) advice or to spam for profit. I definitely will not post it's nonsensical thoughts on SO. I plan to use it for my own amusement. Thanks!

• Project management: Implementing custom errors in VS compilation process

  Like many architects, I've developed coding standards through years of experience to which I expect my developers to adhere. This is especially a problem with the crowd that believes that three or four years of experience makes you a senior-level developer.Approaching this as a training and code review issue has generated limited success. So, I was thinking that it would be great to be able to add custom compile-time errors to the build process to more strictly enforce this and other guidelines. For instance, we use stored procedures for ALL database access, which provides procedure-level security, db encapsulation (table structure is hidden from the app), and other benefits. (Note: I am not interested in starting a debate about this.) Some developers prefer inline SQL or parametrized queries, and that's fine - on their own time and own projects. I'd like a way to add a compilation check that finds, say, anything that looks like string sql = "insert into some_table (col1,col2) values (@col1, @col2);" and generates an error or, in certain circumstances, a warning, with a message like Inline SQL and parametrized queries are not permitted. Or, if they use the var keyword var x = new MyClass(); Variable definitions must be explicitly typed. Do Visual Studio and MSBuild provide a way to add this functionality? I'm thinking that I could use a regular expression to find unacceptable code and generate the correct error, but I'm not sure what, from a performance standpoint, is the best way to to integrate this into the build process. We could add a pre- or post-build step to run a custom EXE, but how can I return line- and file-specifc errors? Also, I'd like this to run after compilation of each file, rather than post-link. Is a regex the best way to perform this type of pattern matching, or should I go crazy and run the code through a C# parser, which would allow node-level validation via the parse tree? I'd appreciate suggestions and tales of prior experience.

  Hello, I have started to review callbacks. It's going ok (a lot of the use of this isn't making sense) but am a little stuck in terms of how I would remove a form / html from the dom.   Hi, I keep receiving this error in my ASP.NET web app (below). I give the Network Service account rights to the specified folder, it runs fine for a while, but then within a day or two the error reoccurs, as the Network Service account has been removed from the rights for the folder. Adding it again fixes it, but why does it keep reocurring? Could it be anything to do with using Interop components (such as WMI)? Here's the full error: Server Error in '/DriveMonitor' Application. On the new machine I grabbed the latest version of the code using sourcesafe. • How to have current page selection using inludes navigation

  I am using php includes to limit redundancy on my pages, how can I have my navigation have the current page selected with say a certain color for the HOME button when my navigation is called from a header.php file. If i were to say to add a "active" class to the home.php item and add a style so it looked different, that would happen across the board for all my pages, which is why I am using includes in the first place, how can I have one header.php file with my navigation, that also allows each page the ability to show the current page you are on reflected in the navigation?
