• How can i distinguish revenue from different folders in Adsense?

  I am currently running three websites using adsense. Since i do this more to be useful than to earn something, i have a subdomain of a free hoster and my websites live in subfolders e.q. mydomain.hoster.com/website1, mydomain.hoster.com/website2, to which i link with .tk aliases. Is there a way to distinguish adsense income from website1 to website 2? I tried using custom channels, but somehow this part of adsense eludes me. Can someone shed some light on this?

• 12.04 reboots rather than shutting down

  I have a ruvo with a fresh installation of 12.04. When I try and shutdown the computer reboots. Until I upgraded (by doing a fresh install) I ran it with Ubuntu 10.04 and I didn't have this issue. I have tried sudo shutdown -h now sudo shutdown -P now sudo init 0 sudo poweroff All of these cause a reboot. I have added acpi=norq to my grub file as suggested by someone in the first post below. This is being used as a mythtv frontend and I would like the power button to shut it down. I have modified the button to perform a shutdown -h now, but this too causes a reboot. I have studied the posts below and tried some of these ideas, but with no luck so far. Why do I get a reboot instead of a shutdown? • How to stop running pidgin at logins and disable window hiding feature?

  Every time I login into my desktop, pidgin start behind, and sometimes it's bothering me - e.g. when I'm not connected to Internet or when I don't want to be on-line - I check startup application list and there's no pidgin listed. another thing that is very bothering is hiding window feature or what ever it called. assume that you're using MusicTracker plug-in, your status is Busy and you're chatting with someone. when music change, status will change, and then buddy-list will disappear and chat window will minimize. Buddy-list is not important but minimizing chat window when you're chatting is bothering, Is there any way to make pidgin stop that?

• Learning Java for electrical engineering [closed]

  I'm an electrical engineering student ( Power, control & instrumentation). 2 months ago I started learning C, and I found programming something really enjoyable and I'd like to continue learning C and few other programming languages along with my electrical engineering degree. So my university is offering an extensive Java Oracle course for 7 days (like 5-6 hours a day) for a really decent price, do you think as an electrical engineer this would help me in my future career? What are the benefits of learning Java for an electrical engineer of my specialization? Do you think it's a good idea for someone in my case to take such an extensive course? I'm hardworker and I really enjoy these things, so I don't think that would be a problem for me.

  When building a public facing website that allows visitors to post comments, link to media and/or upload media (e.g. audio, video, images) ... what should I do to protect myself legally in the case such visitors link to or upload content that they shouldn't (e.g. adult oriented media, copyrighted images and/or media owned by someone else, etc...)? Some questions that come to mind in particular: Should I allow folks to post anonymously? If I make visitors agree to some kind of statement whereby they take full responsibility for what they upload, what should the copy of such a statement be? I picked most of my C# by following the code-base or random google searches on what I wanted to do at that point (like threading in C#). • Why did Windows XP disappear from the menu on my triple-boot system?

  I have WIN XP installed, followed by Mint 12 and finally Ubuntu 12.04. I did a sudo grub-install /dev/sda followed by sudo update-grub. On rebooting all was fine and the boot menu had Ubuntu 12.04, mem, windows, and finally Mint 12. All was fine till now. Today wanted to boot into windows BUT found win XP missing from Boot Menu. Tried sudo grub-install /dev/sda followed by sudo update-grub BUT win XP is NOT FOUND. Can someone help with what to do to restore WIN XP in Boot Menu, Please?

  Say you have an acyclic directed graph with weighted edges and create N workers. My goal is to calculate the optimal way those workers can traverse the entire graph in parralel. However, edge costs may change along the way.   I am trying to add an application to my site where I can post job openings with my company and allow people to apply online. Can someone recommend a service or app already in existence for this purpose? I tried googling it, but could not find a set of search terms that did not return endless sites for job seekers. This is a (very) small business and I do not expect to have more than a few openings at any time, but what I am actually interested in is having a repository of interested job seekers to have on file. Then when people ask me about openings, I could just refer them to the page and they could apply. Then, if we have an opening, we could look through the list of candidates and if we can't fill the position(s) from that list, we could post the job and advertise to fill the position.

• Ubuntu for Internet radio

  I am planning to set up a streaming server purely for internet radio using Icecast2. what software packages do i require during Ubuntu installation and any third party apps i may require. I am going to use BUTT(Broadcast using this tool) Encoder and would like to be able to run BUTT on any computer so that other people can broadcast to my server from anywhere. I am looking for tips or tutorials on how to achieve the above. I mainly need info on cofiguring Ubuntu Server and icecast2. Also GUI? if so what one. Preferablly lightweight. • Different set of workspaces for each monitor? Ubuntu 13.04 with Unity

  currently for my new setup, I have a 3 monitor setup. With an NVIDIA Geforce GTX 770(if this matters for this). What I'm wanting to do, is to create a separate set of workspaces for each monitor. For instance: Monitor 1 has a set of 4 workspaces, that are specific to monitor 1, and change independently of the other monitors. Then the other 2 monitors also have their own set of 4 workspaces. So in total I would have 12 workspaces, but each monitor would have it's own set of 4 that work independently from the others. I've read things about Xmonad and Xinerama, but I'm not really sure where to go from here. I haven't ventured to far into different window managers and everything. I'm sure there's not a tool that does this, but if someone could point me in the right direction(I've been using Ubuntu for about 4 years so I can figure some things out on my own too).

  I was wondering if there is anyway you can block or exclude people from submitting multiple fake ip's online . For example I have a google pay-per-click campaign set up on adwords. I downloaded a program in minutes which enabled me to hide or give out a fake ip address which also allows you to use a different ip each time. I tried this out on my own link on google which in turn got through adwords and I was charged for the click. My question is how would you be able to counter or block someone who continuosly clicks on your link with a different fake ip each time?

• Change the output of the facebook like button [migrated]

  I've tied in the code for the facebook like button from the facebook dev site (I currently use the iframe version) directly into the html of a node (or content post). I want to be able to manipulate what text is sent when someone hits the like button. you can see the site and buttons here www.masteringmoneybasics.org I've tried both the iframe and html5 versions of the button and can't see where to alter what is sent. If there is no way to directly alter what is sent, does anyone know what it looks for in content to be sent so I can structure the node correctly? If you notice, when you like the page, it doesn't get the first sentence of the content, but all content after it, and I've tried putting different content in between the two lines (in its own <p>) and it still grabs the latter. Also how it figures out which image to grab from the page? Most times it doesn't take any image, however twice it's grabbed the middle school image.

• GPL question : web application using Imagick and GhostScript => Which would be the final licence?

  I am a bit confusing and I need your help to undertand my problem. I have developed a web application (PHP, JQuery) for one of my customer. Recently, my customer ask me to add a new feature permitting PDF to JPG conversion. After web browsing, I have discovered that iMagick (Apache licence) PHP extension with GhostScript (GPL licence) is the only solution. But, as my customer want to sell the web application to others companies, I have to use non-GPL licences. By the way, this feature is OPTIONAL and the final user must download and install manually iMagick and GhostScript if he his interesting by using the PDF conversion. Is there someone to tell me if the fact to use Imagick to convert PDF to JPG (and therefore use GhostScript) turns my current proprietary licence to GPL? And what about if I don't use Imagick but call GhostScript using PHP exec() function? Is there others non-GPL projects to convert PDF to JPG that I could use with PHP? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• How can I tell what error grub has when I can't read what it's saying?

  Grub won't allow me to get into any systems on my HP dv7 (it runs 12.10). As the screen is broken, I can't read what the error is. Nothing works, not even the recovery mode. It gives me some error about "cannot find" (I think) and Press any (I guess key?) When a press a key I'm dropped back to the menu. At the moment I'm trying all the recovery options I know. However, it would be great if someone could tell me how to know what error grub is facing from a live cd or something (maybe a log file or something could help)? NB: I can view the filesystem from a liveCD, and I did check the filesystem - it was clean.

• Advice on what to learn? [closed]

  Currently I work as a .NET C# programmer, quite fresh faced at that (only been working professionally for 8 months) I'm enjoying what I'm doing, but I'm now thinking ahead for other languages to learn. I've heard from quite a few seasoned developers that they reckon it's worth getting in to HTML5. Before I asked this question I read a few of the other questions similar to this, but most were dated back a few years. I'm wondering what your advice would be to an aspiring programmer, what I should avoid going for (i.e. as I understand it Flash is essentially going to be phased out due to HTML5) I was looking in to WPF and the more updated .NET technologies, but someone advised me that WPF stuff will probably be redundant in the future. • Generic Content Player?

  The general idea on the web appears to be that video/audio are to be separated with plain text. By separated, I mean you have a place that plays video/audio and a place that you read text. This is because it is widely understood that they are vastly different. However, audio and video are just another way of communication, just like text. So why do we separate the two even if they are nearly the same thing? Correct me if I'm wrong but, most tutorials are either plain text how-to's (wiki-style) or visual/auditory instructional videos (YouTube). Why aren't the two combined? Or, if it's already been done can someone reply with the link? This might be bordering off-topic and if it is off-topic then please point me to the right place so it won't be. This might also appear to be an obvious question, however I'm not sure if this subject has really been deeply thought-out by more than a few individuals.

• How do I add restrictions for users to sign up before they can access web site?

  How do I get my webpage not to go back when they hit the back button and are logged out and how can I add a web page to be blocked like FACEBOOK doesn't let you get into their site with out having a page or a account with them, and if you try to put something in the url and try to go to something on their site it gives you a web page that says "you have to be logged in first" . Like I don't want someone going to the url of the "index" page before they have signed up as a member they need to make an account first then they can have access to the "index" page. How do I do this. I have a website so far that has a database and the website has 5 pages so far and two of them which is the login and sign up page which are both used with php and mysql and they work fine. How do I restrict access to the main website by first having the users sign up with me for an account.

• Help with google pages; using them in general

  Is there any way someone could help me with building a website using google pages? I cannot for the life of me figure out how to do much more than create a new page, and I have been up all night. I thought I knew computers and websites but apparently I need a refresher course. Please, if you can help, I would be most appreciative. -Sugarcube Edit: Seems this is too vague. But honestly, I don't even know where to begin with the way Google has it set up. I tried to set one up with a template and a layout, but the layout has pages that I did not create and that I don't know how to edit to make them suitable to my website. • Unity freezes when laptop screen is closed

  I have an Asus laptop running Ubuntu 12.04. It's configured to do nothing when the laptop screen is closed. But sometimes, when I close the screen and when I reopen it, after I move the mouse to reactivate the screen, my Unity interface is frozen and I can't click on anything. I can move the cursor, and if there's a music playing it keeps playing, but I can't click on anything. I can open a bash shell typing Ctrl+Alt+F2, but there I don't know what to do, I can only login and type sudo reboot to reboot the machine... Is there someone that has the same problem or that knows the solution?
