• basic sql group by with percentage

  I have an issue and NO it is not homework, it's just a programmer who has been away from SQL for a long time having to solve a problem. I have the following table: create table students( studentid int identity(1,1), [name] varchar(200), [group] varchar(10), grade numeric(9,2) ) go The group is something arbitrary, assume it's the following "Group A", "Group B"... and so on. The grade is on a scale of 0 - 100. If there are 5 students in each group with grades randomly assigned, what is the best approach to getting the top 3 students (the top 80%) based on their grade? To be more concrete if I had the following: Ronald, Group A, 84.5 George H, Group A, 82.3 Bill, Group A, 92.0 George W, Group A, 45.5 Barack, Group A, 85.0 I'd get back Ronald, Bill, and Barack. I'd also need to do this over other groups.

• Selecting data from SQL Server table according to Month

  I have to come up with a way to get data from a SQL server table given it's month There's a smalldatetime type field called "date" in the "events" table and a field from it looks like this: 29/01/2003 17:00:00 It should be one among those that appear in the gridview when I select jan/03 in a given DropDownList control in ASP.NET. What would be the best way to do this? Assuming I only want to go as long as 10 years to the past, wouldn't making a dictionary be a good way? How do I change it so the top month is always the current, and each month another options appeaars in the dropdown ? It should be a common issue, so that shall not be a trick, but I want a good and clean way of doing this, and (since I'm new to asp.net) I myself would come up with something messy after a long time trying. So what I want is: -Select -Best way of populating DropDownList (with the current month always at the top) -Best way to bind the DropDownList user-friendly way of writing months to the select query-friendly way of writing datetimes Info: ASP.NET, (C# or VB.NET), SQL Server 2005

• HTML/CSS layout question

  Guys, I just need a little help with some CSS layout if you don't mind. I've got three things I'm trying to play around with and I need some help making this work the way I was hoping. I've got the element of a page, which I'd like to be 100% of the browser window, obviously. Then I've got two elements which I'd like to stack on top of each other, but the trick is this, I'd like the bottom div, (a menu which should really be a fixed height) to determine the height of the top div. Is there a way to lay this out in CSS?

• MTN WMS Implementation Story

  MTN is Africa's largest cellular phone company serving millions of customers across 21 countries. MTN uses Oracle WMS to manage its distribution activities and its sizzling growth. Just for perspective, since 2004, Africa has been the fastest growing mobile phone market in the world. If you want to know more about MTN and the WMS Project at MTN, a summarized view of MTN WMS project is here. The WMS Project at MTN was presented at Oracle Open World in 2007. The extensive automation at MTN includes interface with Conveyor for item transport, High Speed Sorter for item routing, Put to Light for packing accuracy, ASRS Carousel/Lift for inventory Security and Storage Optimization, Check Weight Scale for shipping accuracy, Automated Carton Erectors for package creation and Automated Carton Labeling. Subsequent to this presentation and their go-live in 2007, the MTN warehouse has scaled new heights. The volume has grown manifolds (as can be expected in a fast growing cellular market). Oracle WMS has been able to scale very well to the increase in volume, just as it was designed to do. • Move Image or Div Up As Window Resizes?

  Hi, I have an image in my html with a class of "stretch". Currently, with css, this image re-sizes as the window re-sizes to be 100% of the screen width. I would also like it to move upwards as the window is being re-sized. I'm assuming this can be done with jQuery but I am not quite sure. Basically the "top" css value just needs to change as the screen width does. Here is the css that is currently re-sizing it: .stretch { width: 100%; height: auto; min-height: 420px; position: absolute; top: -200px; } Thanks, Wade

• Z-Index and javascript for rollover

  I have a container (div) with a background image. In this div there is a menu - a horizontal list. What I need is to insert an image onMouseOver, positioning it absolutely, and showing it behind the text (of course!) AND on top of the div's background image. I also use jQuery, but I think this doesn't matter. The problem can be viewed online. • Jquery Cycle issue or css issue in Chrome/Safari for Mac

  Hi i have used the jquery cycle plugin to create multiple simple sliding galleries. In Chrome/Safair on Mac the browser is not loading the images. • Getting filtered results with subquery

  I have a table with something like the following: ID Name Color 1 Bob Blue 2 John Yellow 1 Bob Green 3 Sara Red 3 Sara Green What I would like to do is return a filtered list of results whereby the following data is returned: ID Name Color 1 Bob Blue 2 John Yellow 3 Sara Red i.e. I would like to return 1 row per user. (I do not mind which row is returned for the particular user - I just need that the [ID] is unique.) I have something already that works but is really slow where I create a temp table adding all the ID's and then using a "OUTER APPLY" selecting the top 1 from the same table, i.e. CREATE TABLE #tb ( [ID] [int] ) INSERT INTO #tb select distinct [ID] from MyTable select T1.[ID], T2.[Name], T2.Color from #tb T1 OUTER APPLY ( SELECT TOP 1 * FROM MyTable T2 WHERE T2.[ID] = T1.[ID] ) AS V2 DROP TABLE #tb Can somebody suggest how I may improve it? I'm fairly new to python, so I suspect it's some language feature that I'm misunderstanding. Can you help me understand why the field declarations at the top of the class don't add the fields to the class? In a possibly related note, when these classes are instantiated, instance.media returns nothing even though some fields have widgets with associated media. Thanks, Pete

• How do you position a background image inside a <div>?

  My code currently looks like this: <div style="position: fixed; width: 35.25%; height: 6.75%; left: 0%; top: 4.625%; right: 64.75%; bottom: 88.625%; color: #D1E231; text-align: center; background-color: #666666; background-image: url('FleurTR.png'); background-position: right top;"> <div> The <div> shows up just fine, with the grey background color, but the background image won't show up at all. What am I missing here? There's no reason I should have to specify background-attachment or background-repeat, right? (I don't want it to repeat.)

• Is there a way to construct HTML/CSS in an HTML email such that if image X does not load, text Y will appear?

  I'm looking for something a little more sophisticated than the alt="Newsletter Heading text" attribute of <img> tag. So if the Masthead.png image doesn't load for whatever reason, I want the display text, say Font: 60px Helvetica Neue Black, Helvetica, ..., Sans Serif text-align: center to appear in the middle of the table cell that is my masthead instead of just the alt text in some small default font in top right corner. One idea I had was to use to put the image on-top of the text display but I don't know if z-depth is something I can use in email HTML(?4)?

• Need multiple views to respond to a touch event in an iPhone app

  Setup: I have two views that I need to respond to the touch event, and they are layered out on top of one another. View 1 is on top of View 2. View 2 is a UIWebView. View 1 is sublclassed to capture the touch event. My problem is that if I try to call the UIWebView event handlers (touchesBegan: and touchesEnded:) from within the event handlers of View 1, which is the first responder, nothing happens. However if I set View 1 to userInteractionEnabled = NO, then the touch goes through that view and is processed properly by the 2nd view. Any ideas on how I can have 2 views respond to a touch event? Unfortunately the 2nd view is a UIWebView, so I need to actually call the event handler and not a different method, etc... Thanks in advance for any advice, Joel

  Like happens to all of us sometimes, I inherited some crappy code I have to fix. • Sun2Oracle: Upgrading from DSEE to the next generation Oracle Unified Directory - webcast follow up

  Thanks to all of the guest speakers on our Sun2Oracle webcast: Steve from Hub City Media, Albert from UCLA and our own Scott Bonell. During the webcast, we tried to answer as many questions as we could, but there were a few that we needed a bit more time to answer.  Albert from UCLA sent me the following information: Alternate Directory EvaluationWe were happy with Sun DSEE. OUD, based on the research we had done, was a logical continuation of DSEE.  If we moved away, it was to to go open source. UCLA evaluated OpenLDAP, OpenDS, Red Hat's 389 Directory. We also briefly entertained Active Directory. Ultimately, we decided to stay with OUD for the Enterprise Directory, and adopt OpenLDAP for the non-critical edge directories.HardwareFor Enterprise Directory, UCLA runs 3 Dell PowerEdge R710 servers. Each server has 12GB RAM and 2 2.4GHz Intel Xeon E5 645 processors. We run 2 of those servers at UCLA's Data Center in a semi active-passive configuration. The 3rd server is located at UCLA Berkeley. All three are multi master replicated. At run time, the bulk of LDAP query requests go to 1 server. Essentially, all of our authn/authz traffic is being handled by 1 server, with the other 2 acting as redundant back ups.

• Are programmers a bunch of heartless robots who are lacking of empathy? [closed]

  OK, the provocative title got your attention. My experience as a programmer and dealing with my fellow programmers is that, a programmer is also usually someone who is so consumed by his programming work, so absorbed in his algorithmic construction that he has little passion/ time left for anything else, which includes empathy for other people, love and care for the people whom he love or should love ( such as their spouses, parents, kids, colleagues etc). The better a person is in terms of his programming powers, the more defective he is in terms of love/care because both honing programming skills and loving the surrounding takes time and one has only so much time to be allocated among so many different things. Also, programming ( especially INTERESTING programming job, like, writing an AI to predict the future search trend) is a highly consuming job; it doesn't just consume you from 9 to 5, it will also consume you after 5 and practically every second of your waking hours because a good programmer can't just magically switch off his thinking hat after the office lights go off ( If you can then I don't really think you are a passionate programmer, and the prerequisite of a good programmer is passion). So, a good programmer is necessarily someone who can't love as much as others do because the very nature of the programming job prevents him from loving others as much as he wants to. Do you concur with my observation/ reasoning?

• Positioning divs inside a container div without the content of an upper div affecting the position o

  Hi. I'm trying to accomplish the following layout, and I'm almost there, except for the last green div, which is going lower and lower depending on the content of the content (white) div. If I set a value for the TOP property for the green div, and then I add some more text to the content div, the green div goes lower and lower. Since the green div is child to the main container div, and the green div is relatively positioned, isn't it supposed to be placed specifically at the position indicated by the TOP value of it? If I'm incorrect...can someone please tell me how can i make it so that the green div is always displayed at the same spot within the container (gray) div, regardless of the height of the content/white div? I tried to paste the css code here but was having problems with the brower. you can see the test site source/css at http://www.rae-mx.com/test tia for the help.
