  • PHP AJAX mysql event calendar - UI for events spanning multiple days

    I have built a PHP calendar system and have pretty much everything done but not sure how to deal with a UI issue involving how the events that stretched out over a couple of days. I want to be able to stretch an event that stretches over couple of days in a div that spans those days in the calendar. Basically I would like to know how to achieve what these guys have achieved with the event that stretches out from 21st to 22nd with the yellow div background. I have been trying to see how I can do it with PHP but I feel like I might be trying the wrong thing. Perhaps this is done with javascript?

  • Setting useLegacyV2RuntimeActivationPolicy At Runtime

    Version 4.0 of the .NET Framework included a new CLR which is almost entirely backwards compatible with the 2.0 version of the CLR.  However, by default, mixed-mode assemblies targeting .NET 3.5sp1 and earlier will fail to load in a .NET 4 application.  Fixing this requires setting useLegacyV2RuntimeActivationPolicy in your app.Config for the application.  While there are many good reasons for this decision, there are times when this is extremely frustrating, especially when writing a library.  As such, there are (rare) times when it would be beneficial to set this in code, at runtime, as well as verify that it’s running correctly prior to receiving a FileLoadException. For full details on what’s happening here and why, I recommend reading Mark Miller’s detailed explanation of this attribute and the reasoning behind it. Before I show any code, let me say: I strongly recommend using the official approach of using app.config to set this policy. That being said, there are (rare) times when, for one reason or another, changing the application configuration file is less than ideal. While this is the supported approach to handling this issue, the CLR Hosting API includes a means of setting this programmatically via the ICLRRuntimeInfo interface.  Normally, this is used if you’re hosting the CLR in a native application in order to set this, at runtime, prior to loading the assemblies.  However, the F# Samples include a nice trick showing how to load this API and bind this policy, at runtime.  This was required in order to host the Managed DirectX API, which is built against an older version of the CLR. In my case, this was quite useful – I am working on a library purely for internal use which uses a numerical package that is supplied with both a completely managed as well as a native solver.  The native solver uses a CLR 2 mixed-mode assembly, but is dramatically faster than the pure managed approach.  By checking RuntimePolicyHelper.LegacyV2RuntimeEnabledSuccessfully at runtime, I can decide whether to enable the native solver, and only do so if I successfully bound this policy. There are some tricks required here – To enable this sort of fallback behavior, you must make these checks in a type that doesn’t cause the mixed mode assembly to be loaded.  In my case, this forced me to encapsulate the library I was using entirely in a separate class, perform the check, then pass through the required calls to that class.  Otherwise, the library will load before the hosting process gets enabled, which in turn will fail. This code will also, of course, try to enable the runtime policy before the first time you use this class – which typically means just before the first time you check the boolean value.  As a result, checking this early on in the application is more likely to allow it to work. Finally, if you’re using a library, this has to be called prior to the 2.0 CLR loading.  This will cause it to fail if you try to use it to enable this policy in a plugin for most third party applications that don’t have their app.config setup properly, as they will likely have already loaded the 2.0 runtime.   • Need an ASP.NET MVC long running process with user feedback

    I've been trying to create a controller in my project for delivering what could turn out to be quite complex reports. As a result they can take a relatively long time and a progress bar would certainly help users to know that things are progressing. The report will be kicked off via an AJAX request, with the idea being that periodic JSON requests will get the status and update the progress bar. I've been experimenting with the AsyncController as that seems to be a nice way of running long processes without tying up resources, but it doesn't appear to give me any way of checking on the progress (and seems to block further JSON requests and I haven't discovered why yet). After that I've tried resorting to storing progress in a static variable on the controller and reading the status from that - but to be honest that all seems a bit hacky! All suggestions gratefully accepted!

  • Using RouteExistingFiles to block access to existing files even if no route exists

    In ASP.net MVC 2, I can use routes.RouteExistingFiles = true; to send all requests through the routing system, even if they exist on the file system. Usually, this ends up hitting the "{controller}/{action}/{id}" route and throws an exception as the controller cannot be found. I do not want to use that route though (I have only a few URLs and they are specifically mapped), yet I would still like to prevent access to the file system. Basically I want to Whitelist pages using IgnoreRoute. Is there a built-in way to do this? My current approach is to still have the "{controller}/{action}/{id}" route and generate a 404 when this is hit, but I'm just wondering if something is built-in already?

  • Is using jquery to call a WCF Data Service from the UI violating the MVC pattern.

    I'm fairly new to ASP.Net MVC 2 and understand the MVC pattern in itself. But my question is what's the best way to populate dropdownlists in the UI sticking to the MVC pattern. Should I be going through the controller? Every article I've seen to do this shows how to do it using javascript and jquery. I have a test application that I'm re-writing in MVC2 I have my dropdowns working with jquery basically calling a WCF Data Service that returns JSON which populates the dropdowns. Seems to me though that this is bypassing the controller and going straight to the model therefore strictly violating the MVC pattern. Or am I missing something obvious here. You thoughts or best practices would be greatly welcome here. Thanks

  • Google Maps: openInfoWindowTabsHtml + GDownloadUrl (Ajax call) question

    I am facing the following problem. On an Google Map I want to add info windows with tabs, where content is loaded from an external file using the GDownloadUrl method. The code works about fine, but with two problems. a) The first time I click on a marker, nothing hapens. I need to click twice to get an info box. After that it works ok. b) When I close an info box and open it again, the tabs repeat themselves. Every time I reopen the info box, those tabs get repeated. So, if using the code below and open the info box 3 times, I get 6 tabs (Info, Photos, Info, Photos, Info, Photos). Any idea of what I am doing wrong here?   • Best placement for javascript in Asp.net MVC app that heavily uses partial views

    What is the best place for javascript that is specific to a partial view? For example, if I have a partial view (loaded via ajax call) with some divs and I want to turn those divs into an accordian, would it be better put the $("#section").accordion() in script tags inside of the partial view, or in a .js file in the function that retrieves that partial view and inserts it into the DOM? Obviously, common methods I will be keeping in a .js file, however I am more talking about javascript very specific to the partial view itself. Most things I find on the net seem to say to put all javascript into a separate .js but nothing addresses the idea of partial views.

  • ResolveURL not resolving in a user control

    I'm trying to use ResolveUrl() to set some paths in the code behind of a custom ASP.NET user control. The user control contains a navigation menu. I'm loading it on a page that's loading a master page. When I call ResolveUrl("~") in my user control it returns "~" instead of the root of the site. When I call it in a page I get the root path as expected. I've stepped through with the debugger and confirmed, ResolveUrl("~") returns "~" in my user control code behind. Is there some other way I should be calling the function in my user control code behind to get the root path of the site?

    Hello, I've been playing around with using MySql as the membership provider for asp.net mvc forms authentication. I've got things configured correctly as far as i can tell, and i can create users via both the register action and asp.net web config site. however, when i try to login with one of the users, it does not work. it returns an error as if i had entered a wrong password, or if the account doesn't exist. i have verified in the database that the account does exist. UPDATE So after debugging the login process in the code of the membership provider itself, i discovered that there is a bug in the provider. There is a discrepancy between the password hash that is stored in the database, and the has that is generated based on the inputted password. As a workaround for my issue, i changed the password format to 'encrpyted' and added a machine key to my web.config. I am still interested in figuring out the issue with the hashed format in the provider, and will spend some more time debugging it, and if i can figure out the problem, i will put together a patch and submit it.

    I've got the JSON coming back like this: {"responseData": [{"responseData":{"translatedText":"elefante"},"responseDetails":null,"responseStatus":200},{"responseData":{"translatedText":"Burro"},"responseDetails":null,"responseStatus":200}], "responseDetails": null, "responseStatus": 200} And I need to parse it into a ResponseData object I have set-up: public class ResponseData { public string translatedText = string.Empty; public object responseDetails = null; public HttpStatusCode responseStatus = HttpStatusCode.OK; public List<ResponseData> responseData { get; set; } } I Deserialize it like this: JavaScriptSerializer serializer = new JavaScriptSerializer(); ResponseData translation = serializer.Deserialize<ResponseData>(responseJson); But no matter what the translated text is always empty.

    Hi guys... Hope this isn't a waste of your time. I'm working on a project, and it occured to me that there's a chunk of code out there, that should allow me to see how others have implemented this. I've got a project where I'm going to have a page, with a sel box. the user will select an item from the selList, and based on the item selected, a separate section of the page (areaB) will change in terms of the content/tbls being displayed. i then want to allow the user to go through a series of subpages in areaB, where the user goes through a submit/cancel/confirm process, where the stuff in areaB changes, with the rest of the page remaining the same... i'm trying to figure out the best approach to implement the on both client/server side. i could just have an ugly "if block" where i have abunch of logic, and i completely regen the page each time the user selects an action.. i could have an approach that might involve divs/frames, where i then just regen the targeted frame/div area.. is this even possible?? i could have some form of ajaxy process, which would only alter the targeted section(s) of the page... so.. i'm trying to talk to anyone who has ideas on how to do this, or more ideally, if you know of a good code (client/server) side example of this... that i can examine. i'd really appreciate it!! i've got a more detailed overview but didn't know if it would be cool to post it here... thanks.. tom
