• Javascript is freezing the browser when running this code

  I am trying to get the value of a text input and check if there is any links in it and then take those links and make them into tags. But when I run this code, something is going wrong and it completely freezes the page. Basically, I want it to check for "http://" and if that exists, to keep on adding to the substr length until the end of the string/link. Millions of people around the world, use tablets and smartphones to view the contents of websites,e-shops and portals.ASP.Net MVC 4.0 includes a new mobile project template and the ability to render a different set of views for different types of devices.There is a new feature that is called browser overriding which allows us to control exactly what a user is going to see from your web application regardless of what type of device he is using.In order to follow along this post you must have Visual Studio 2012 and .Net Framework 4.5 installed in your machine.Download and install VS 2012 using this link.My machine runs on Windows 8 and Visual Studio 2012 works just fine.It will work fine in Windows 7 as well so do not worry if you do not have the latest Microsoft operating system.1) Launch VS 2012 and create a new Web Forms application by going to File - >New Project - > ASP.Net MVC 4 Web Application and then click OKHave a look at the picture below  2) From the available templates select Mobile Application and then click OK.Have a look at the picture below 3) When I run the application I get the mobile view of the page. I would like to show you what a typical ASP.Net MVC 4.0 application looks like. So I will create a new simple ASP.Net MVC 4.0 Web Application. When I run the application I get the normal page view.Have a look at the picture below.On the left is the mobile view and on the right the normal view. As you can see we have more or less the same content in our mobile application (log in,register) compared with the normal ASP.Net MVC 4.0 application but it is optimised for mobile devices. 4) Let me explain how and when the mobile view is selected and finally rendered.There is a feature in MVC 4.0 that is called Display Modes and with this feature the runtime will select a view.If we have 2 views e.g contact.mobile.cshtml and contact.cshtml in our application the Controller at some point will instruct the runtime to select and render a view named contact.The runtime will look at the browser making the request and will determine if it is a mobile browser or a desktop browser. So if there is a request from my IPhone Safari browser for a particular site, if there is a mobile view the MVC 4.0 will select it and render it. If there is not a mobile view, the normal view will be rendered.5) In the  ASP.Net MVC 4.0 (Internet application) I created earlier (not the first project which was a mobile one) I can run it once more and see how it looks on the browser. If I want to view it with a mobile browser I must download one emulator like Opera Mobile.You can download Opera Mobile hereWhen I run the application I get the same view in both the desktop and the mobile browser. That was to be expected. Have a look at the picture below 6) Then I create another version of the _Layout.mobile.cshtml view in the Shared folder.I simply copy and paste the _Layout.cshtml  into the same folder and then rename it to _Layout.mobile.cshtml and then just alter the contents of the _Layout.mobile.cshtml.When I run again the application I get a different view on the desktop browser and a different one on the Opera mobile browser.Have a look at the picture below ?he Controller will instruct the ASP.Net runtime to select and render a view named _Layout.mobile.cshtml when the request will come from a mobile browser.?he runtime knows that a browser is a mobile one through the ASP.Net browser capability provider. Hope it helps!!!

  I've been playing with jQuery in an ASP.NET project and am finding some odd behavior with the .fadeIn() and fadeOut() functions. In the below example, a click on the button (ID Button1) is supposed to cause both the span of text with ID Label1 and the the button with the ID TextBox1 to do the following things: Fade Out Change the text of both the text box and the span of text to be You clicked the button Fade In Based on the browser I'm using, I get 3 different scenarios, and each element functions differently in each situation. Here's what happens when I actually click the button: TextBox1: In IE8, the text box fades out, changes text, then fades back in In IE8 Compatibility View, the text box fades out, changes text, then fades back in. However, the text in the box looks a little different than before the button was clicked. In FireFox 3.5.8, the text box doesn't fade out (but it does "pause" for the amount of time the fade would take), does change the text, then seems to "pause" again where it would be fading in. Label1: In IE8, the label doesn't fade out (but it does "pause" for the amount of time the fade would take), does change the text, then seems to "pause" again where it would be fading in. In IE8 Compatibility View, the label does fade out, change text, and fades back in, but the text looks a little different than before the button was clicked. Two questions: What's going in to make each element to behave differently in different browsers? Is there a better way to get the functionality I'm looking for across multiple platforms? • What's the problem of this piece of JavaScript code?

  Hi guys, The following piece of JavaScript code is a cross browser way to add/remove event handler. It will save a deleting method as a property of an HTML element object. Now it works well in FireFox but not in IE6. I can't find out why so I came here for help. • Is trailing slash automagically added on click of home page URL in browser?

  I am asking this because whenever I mouseover a link to a home page (e.g. http://www.example.com), I notice that a trailing slash is always added (as observed on the status bar of the browser) whether the home page link contains a href attribute that ends with a slash or not. But whenever I am on the home page, the URL on display will not have a trailing slash. I tried entering a slash to the URL in the URL bar. And with Firebug enabled, I notice that the site always return a 200 OK status. An article here discussing this states that having a slash at the end will avoid a 301 redirection. But I am not seeing any redirection, even on this page. Could this be a browser feature that is appending the slash?

• How to test the render speed of my solution in a web browser?

  Ok, I need to test the speed of my solution in a web browser, but I have some problems, there are 2 versions of the web solution, the original one that is on server A and the "fixed" version that is on server B. I have VS2010 Ultimate, so I can make a web and load test on solution B, but I can't load the A solution on my IDE. I was trying to use fiddle2 and jmeter, but they only gave me the times of the request and response of the browsers with the server, I also want the time it takes to the browser to render the whole page. Maybe I'm misusing some of this tools... I don't know if this could be usefull but: Solution A is on VB 6.0 Solution B is on VB.Net Thanks in advance!

• Possible to set equal height for divs in pairs but only if browser width 960 or wider?

  I'm working on a responsive site where I've found that I've got pairs of divs with heights that I would like to be equal, but only if the browser width is equal to or greater than 960px. Any smaller than that and the divs stack so different heights do not make a difference. DIV 1 | DIV 2 DIV 3 | DIV 4 DIV 5 | DIV 6 DIV 7 | DIV 8 Based on the above set up, Div 1 and Div 2 need to be equal height as do Div 3 and Div 4, but both pairs do not need to be equal to each other. i.e. the pair sets can have different heights but each pair must be equal. Is this possible and if so what is the best approach to take? My javascript/jQuery is rather elementary. I'm sure I could do equal heights alone, but with the pair sets I'm not sure and then adding in the need to set this to only happen if the browser is 960 or wider and I'm lost.

  I've created a basic web server for a school project, and it serves static content without a problem. I thought of having the server parse all htm/html files for links to .js/.css/image files, and send these files to the client without these files being requested by the client later. eg. The browser requests: index.htm The server responds with intex.htm and image.jpg I modified the server to send two distinct http responses for a "GET /index.html HTTP1.1" (one for the html page and one for the image), but the browser ended up requesting the image when it was good and ready. Is there any way to bypass this? (use a multipart response, perhaps) Will these files be accepted by most browsers, or will they be rejected for security reasons?

• How to let the browser prefer IPv6 over IPv4?

  I installed miredo and have IPv6 up and running it seems. I can ping6 hosts and download webpages with wget or my webbrowser when I specify IPv6 addresses, however whenever I specify a hostname that is offered over both IPv4 and IPv6 the browser picks the IPv4 address for the connection. How can I change that and let the browser use IPv6 instead of IPv4 if available? Googling around I found a hint that browsers will prefer IPv4 over IPv6 for 6to4/teredo tunnels, but so far I haven't found an explanation why or how to change that.
