  • MVC Page not showing up, 404 not found

    I have a very simple MVC site that is returning a 404 not found error when trying to load a page at the very beginning. I'm looking for some direction to troubleshoot this problem since there is really nothing to go on from the error message. The error I'm getting is: Description: HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. Please review the following URL and make sure that it is spelled correctly. Requested URL: /Views/Other/Index.aspx Below I have included the code for the various pieces, routing rules are default: routes.MapRoute( "Default", // Route name "{controller}/{action}/{id}", // URL with parameters new { controller = "Home", action = "Index", id = UrlParameter.Optional} // Parameter defaults ); The site is using nested MasterPages, not sure if this is involved with the problem but trying to include as much detail as possible.   • Custom flash uploader breaks only on Media Temple

    I've built a flash uploader to upload files up to 100MB using a php backend. It works wonderfully on our dev server, on a hostgator vps, and on one of our clients' servers running Debian. It will not work on our Media Temple (dv)3.5 and I don't know why. The upload will start but will choke after a few seconds with this flash error message: ioerror: [IOErrorEvent type="ioError" bubbles=false cancelable=false eventPhase=2 text="Error #2038: File I/O Error. URL: http://..._upload.php"] The problem seems to be specific to the asynchronous nature of the flash uploader because if I try a straight php upload it works fine. The php.ini settings are set to allow such a large upload as well. Also, I've thoroughly googled flash, 2038, I/O error, etc but have yet to find anything that helped. Here's the weird part though: We work in Seattle. It won't work from the office. It won't work from home. But, while on the phone with MT's support, they were able to upload a file through our flash uploader just fine. I'm not sure where his office was located but I think it was Atlanta. So the problem also seems specific to physical location. Has anyone run into this sort of problem before?

  • can canonical links be used to make 'duplicate' pages unique?

    We have a website that allows users to list items for sale. Think ebay - except we don't actually deal with selling the item, we just list it for sale and provide a way to contact the seller. Anyhow, in several cases sellers maybe have multiple units of an item for sale. We don't have a quantity field, so they upload each item as a separate listing (and using a quantity field is not an option). So we have a lot of pages which basically have the exact same info and only the item # might be different. The SEO guy we've started using has said we should put a canonical link on each page, and have the canonical link point to itself. So for example, www.mysite.com/something/ would have a canonical link of href="www.mysite.com/something/" This doesn't really seem kosher to me. I thought canonical links we're suppose to point to other pages. The SEO guy claims doing it this way will tell google all these pages are indeed unique, even if they do basically have the same content. This seems a little off to me since what's to stop a spammer from putting up a million pages and doing this as well? Can anyone tell me if the SEO guy's suggestion is valid or not? If it's not valid, then do i need to figure out some way to check for duplicated items and automatically pick one of the duplicates to serve as an original and generate canonical links based off that?   • Problem using custom HttpHandler to process requests for both .aspx and non-extension pages in IIS7

    I am trying to process both ".aspx" and non-extension page requests (i.e. both contact.aspx and /contact/) using a custom HttpHandler in IIS7. My handler works just fine in either one case or the other, but as soon as I try to process both cases, it only works for one. Please see Handlers snippet from my web.config below: If i keep only mapping to "*.aspx" then all .aspx requests are processed correctly, but obviously extensionless requests won't work: <add name="AllPages.ASPX" path="*.aspx" verb="*" type="Test.PageHandlerFactory, Test" preCondition="" /> If i change the mapping to "*" then all extensionless requests are processed correctly, but ".aspx" requests that should still be handled by this handler stop working. Note that i added the StaticFiles entry in order to process files that are on disk like images, css, js, etc. <add name="WebResource" path="WebResource.axd" verb="GET" type="System.Web.Handlers.AssemblyResourceLoader" /> <add name="StaticFiles" verb="GET,HEAD" path="*.*" type="System.Web.StaticFileHandler" resourceType="File" /> <add name="AllPages" path="*" verb="*" type="Test.PageHandlerFactory, Test" preCondition="" /> The crazy thing is that when i load an ".aspx" request (with the 2nd configuration shown) IIS7 gives a 404 not found error. The error also says that the request is processed by the StaticFiles handler. But I made sure to add resourceType="File" to the StaticFileHandler in order to avoid this. According to MS this means the request is only for "physical files on disk". Am i misreading/interpreting the "on disk" part? My .aspx file isn't on disk, that's why i want to use the handler in the first place.

  • Deploying ASP.NET MVC to IIS6: pages are just blank

    I have an MVC app that is actually on a couple other servers but I didn't do the deploy. For this deploy I have added the wildcard to aspnet_isapi.dll which has gotten rid of the 404 error. But the pages are not pulling up, rather everything is just blank. I can't seem to find any IIS configuration differences. The Global asax.cs file does have routing defined, but as I've seen on a working server, that file isn't just hanging out in the root or anything so obvious. What could I be missing here? All of the servers are running IIS6 and I have compared the setups and they look the same to me at this point. Thanks...   • MP3 player mpman TS300 not recognized

    I just received a mpman ts300 mp3 player for Christmas. But when I try to connect it to ubuntu (10.10) through usb it doesn't seem to be recognized. I searched for a linuxdriver but came up with nothing. I even tried installing mpman manager from the software center, but still the same problem... Has anybody got any ideas about how to fix this?     I'm trying to link my project with fftw and so far, I've gotten it to compile, but not link. As the site said, I generated all the .lib files (even though I'm only using double precision), and copied them to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\VC\lib, the .h file to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\VC\include and the .dll to C:\windows\system32.     I have this seemingly-innocent code on my main JSF page: <a4j:outputPanel id="sidebarContainer"> <a4j:include viewId="#{UserSession.currentSidebar}"/> </a4j:outputPanel> Here is how the sidebar changes: A jsFunction calls a backing-bean method which sets the page (like "sidebar2.jsp") in UserSession The jsFunction has "rerender='sidebarContainer'", so that the correct page is loaded in the sidebar When the web application is initially started in JBoss 5, when I call the jsFunction to change pages, sidebar2 appears, but the original sidebar (sidebar1.jsp) appears below it. The sidebar switching works just fine after this initial wierdness. Any thoughts??

    I'm trying to convert a database-driven multiple-choice-style study website (written in JSP) into an iPhone app using JQTouch. If I load all of the Q&A's into their own divs in the same file I can easily link and animate between them using links to hashtags, like: a class="button" href="#question22" Unfortunately this isn't practical. The logic of the website as it currently works requires calls to a number of dynamically generated pages; I can't include every question in its own div in the same flat file. How would I go about dynamically (pre)loading the next question (a JSP page like AskQuestion.jsp?questionId=Kzhctand ) then serving that up within the app after the user presses a button?   • Urlrewriting.net pages are not causing postbacks

    I'm using webforms with UrlRewriting.Net to rewrite pages, e.g. http://www.example.com/stuff.aspx?c=30 becomes http://www.example.com/stuff/30-this-stuff.aspx. It works in so far as the correct content is loading; however, none of the postbacks are working (mostly buttons on the page). If I set up a breakpoint on Page_Load, I see that IsPostBack is always false. Any ideas on how to fix this? Right now I'm just on Visual Studio 2008. EDIT: I have since switched to UrlRewriter.Net, which worked after a few tweaks (see Scott Gu's article). Besides here, I have posted my original problem to the developer's forum: if I ever get an answer, I'll post it here (unless else posts it here first).

    I have a facebook Iframe application with multiple PHP pages in it. I have some links that point relatively to the files inside my "iframe folder". Having some issues with session variables inside the iframe. I set some session variables but they do not persist from one page to another. This does work on other browsers. I've been reading that Safari does not support Cross-Domain cookies and this might be the problem , but im not sure how to fix this. Any help?

  • AJAX binds jquery events multiple times

    Hi... I have a masterpage setup, with a pageLoad in the topmost masterpage, which calls pageLoad2 for nested masterpages which calls pageLoad3 for content pages. In my content page I have a jquery click event and in my nested masterpage I have a web user control. Whenever I use the user control in the nested masterpage, it rebinds the click event in the content page (undoubtedly because the pageLoad3 is called again), but this makes the click event fire twice on a single click. The problem gets worse the higher up masterpages you go (eg. fires 3 times if user control from topmost masterpage is called). Can anyone tell me how to make sure it only binds the jquery events once?

    I have got an application that is not compatible to work using IE8 browser. I am looking for a way to to configure Tomcat on which this application run, so the pages could be read by IE8 and treated as if they are IE7 or IE6 By googling so far I found a possible suggestion which say to add to the http response the header: X-UA-Compatible: IE=EmulateIE7 here that tell IE8 to be like IE7. The problem is that this way requires adding a filter that should be added on application level. I'd like to know if any of you is familiar with a more generic way that Tomcat enables to send its http content to be IE7 (or IE6) compatible ?

    Hi! Im trying to implement a UIScrollView including multiple images, using paginate. The problem is that I want more then one page to be visible in the UIScrollView, but only one page should be selected. I found several solutions in which you handle touch down/up (touchesBegan and touchesEnded) myself and scrollRectToVisible, but I want to avoid this if possible. A sample solution for that can be found at: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=634462 I dont get why its so easy if you only need to display one page at a time in the UIScrollView , but seems really hard if you want to show more pages.
