  • Optimize code perfromance when odd/even threads are doing different things in CUDA

I have two large vectors, I am trying to do some sort of element multiplication, where an even-numbered element in the first vector is multiplied by the next odd-numbered element in the second vector .... and where the odd-numbered element in the first vector is multiplied by the preceding even-numbered element in the second vector Ex. vector 1 is V1(1) V1(2) V1(3) V1(4) vector 2 is V2(1) V2(2) V2(3) V2(4) V1(1) * V2(2) V1(3) * V2(4) V1(2) * V2(1) V1(4) * V2(3) I have written a Cuda code to do this: (Pds has the elements of the first vector in shared memory, Nds the second Vector) //instead of using %2 .. i check for the first bit to decide if number is odd/even -- faster if ((tx & 0x0001) == 0x0000) Nds[tx+1] = Pds[tx] * Nds[tx+1]; else Nds[tx-1] = Pds[tx] * Nds[tx-1]; __syncthreads(); Is there anyway to further accelerate this code or avoid divergence ..   • Writing a JavaScript zip code validation function

    I would like to write a JavaScript function that validates a zip code, by checking if the zip code actually exists. Here is a list of all zip codes: http://www.census.gov/tiger/tms/gazetteer/zips.txt (I only care about the 2nd column) This is really a compression problem. I would like to do this for fun. OK, now that's out of the way, here is a list of optimizations over a straight hashtable that I can think of, feel free to add anything I have not thought of: Break zipcode into 2 parts, first 2 digits and last 3 digits. Make a giant if-else statement first checking the first 2 digits, then checking ranges within the last 3 digits. Or, covert the zips into hex, and see if I can do the same thing using smaller groups. Find out if within the range of all valid zip codes there are more valid zip codes vs invalid zip codes. Write the above code targeting the smaller group. Break up the hash into separate files, and load them via Ajax as user types in the zipcode. So perhaps break into 2 parts, first for first 2 digits, second for last 3. Lastly, I plan to generate the JavaScript files using another program, not by hand. Edit: performance matters here. I do want to use this, if it doesn't suck. Performance of the JavaScript code execution + download time. Edit 2: JavaScript only solutions please. I don't have access to the application server, plus, that would make this into a whole other problem =)

    Hi I've searched some other posts, but most of them assumed that people knew what they were doing in their unit testing, and frankly I don't. I see the idea behind unit testing, and I'm coding an silverlight application much in the blind right now, and I'd like to write some unit tests to kind of be sure I'm on the right path. I'd like to be able to use the SL4 vs 2010 silverlight unit test project template, to keep it simple and not use external tools. So what I need an answer for are questions like: what are the methods of unit testing? what are the differences between unit tests, and automated unit tests? How do I meaningfully unit test in silverlight? What should I be aware of while unit testing (in silverlight) ? Also should I implement some kind of IRepository pattern in my silverlight app to make unit testing easier?

    So I am creating a fading gallery and am a bit of a noob to javascript (but not to programming). I have no idea what is wrong though. I am using firebugs console.log for debugging, plus have a class set for s_current (bright border) but nothing happens at all. The firebug console log says: Adding New Class Incrementing Existing Current Found Incrementing Existing Current Found Incrementing Existing Current Found Incrementing Existing Current Found ... to infinity The function is called on a setInterval timer, and as far as I can tell it should be working (and I have done something similar before), but it just isn't happening :(

    According the the Perl documentation on regexes: By default, the "^" character is guaranteed to match only the beginning of the string ... Embedded newlines will not be matched by "^" ... You may, however, wish to treat a string as a multi-line buffer, such that the "^" will match after any newline within the string ... you can do this by using the /m modifier on the pattern match operator. The "after any newline" part means that it will only match at the beginning of the 2nd and subsequent lines. What if I want to match at the beginning of any line (1st, 2nd, etc.)?

  • How to return all aspnet_compiler errors (not just those in first directory)

    Hi there! Is there a way to get the aspnet_compiler to go through all views and return all errors, rather than just the errors in the current view directory? For example, lets say I have a project that has a bunch of folders... Views Folder1 Folder2 Folder3 Folder4 Two of them (Folder2 and Folder3) have errors. aspnet_compiler will run, and only return the errors it comes across in Folder2. It won't return those in Folder3 at the same time. Once I fix the errors in Folder2 and run it again, it'll then pick up the ones in the Folder3. I fix those. And then have to run the tool again, and again until it's all fixed. This is getting annoying!! For reference, here's the command I use: C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_compiler -v / -p "C:\path\to\project" Thanks in advance!

    I generate a dynamic assembly with CSharpCodeProvider, from a C# source saved into a string. I can run the synamic code at runtime, but if I pause the execution Visual Studio doesn't show me the dinamic source code in the call stack. It says "External code" and I can't step into that source code. I think VS can't find PDB or other debug info. Can you help me?

  • Android "first time" app user tutorial

    I'm trying to create an opening tutorial that consists of four panes for my application, but since I'm new to Android, I want to make sure I'm considering all of my options before marking this task as "complete". I know of three ways, I can only really accomplish one. There are no requirements for this tutorial, but some "wanted features" would be a sliding action to each pane would be nice as well as the image and the bottom (navigation circles) not moving and the title on top not moving. One Way 4 separate activities and 4 separate layouts The red circled items are textViews that are centered horizontally and pushed off the top. The white circled items are imageViews that are centered horizontally and vertically. The purple circled are imageViews that are centered horizontally and pushed off the bottom. Second Way 4 fragments on one activity Fragments were difficult to learn, but the more I read about them/see tutorials on them, they seem to only really be used for tablets. Would it be a valid way to accomplish this? Third Way ViewPager? http://android-developers.blogspot.com/2011/08/horizontal-view-swiping-with-viewpager.html I've never used this before, but I know it's an option. Final Question Which way is used more often/what's the proper way to implement this? Is there any way to only have the middle part (the image) slide in, but the title (top) and the navigation images (bottom) just change once the image slides in?

    Hi! I have configured svnserve (1.6.5,plain, without apache) on Fedora 12. I could ran the following svn subcommands which access the repository after configuration. Such as, commit, update,checkout, list. But, when next time ( after stopping,ctrl-c and then starting svnserve)I tried above commands, could not access the repository. This is happening both from local and remote machine. I ran svn and svnserve as below. 'svn commit svn://127.0.0.1/myrepository/' from local client. 'svnserve -d --foregorund --listen-port=3690 -r /path-to-repository/mypository/' To understand the problem better, I created another repository and found similar behavior . Frist I could access the repository and next I could not. I tried doing strace on svnserve, but don't uderstand much of it.     Hi, I want to use Christian Bach's tableSorter client-side table sorting jQuery plugin with my asp.Net GridView control. But the problem is, in the documentation it writes: tablesorter works on standard HTML tables. You must include THEAD and TBODY tags: And unfortunately asp.net renders my GridView only with tags and header row stays within as the 1st row. I have tried: dgvRate.HeaderRow.TableSection = TableRowSection.TableHeader; after calling .DataBind(); It only helped to have <TH></TH> within the header . But still everything is inside <tbody> Can I accomplish this, I mean moving my 1st row from <tbody></tbody> to <thead></thead> ? I do not want to add it manually on PreRender stage; I am sure this could be handled much simpler, isn't it? thanks
