But, if the length is not const size_t LengthC = 30; std::bitset< LengthC > bitsetC; // Line 30, say I face the following compilation error 'LengthC' cannot appear in a constant-expression template argument 1 is invalid What is the reason for that? What would be the problem, for compiler and for user code, if line 30 was to be accepted? Is it because LengthC might have some alias?

  I'm looking for a good profiler for vs2008 professional edition, free or reasonably priced. I've already checked previous posts and tried about 8 profilers, but most of them are too basic or too detailed. Kindly suggest something, my requirements are as follows: It can be compiled, so that its well integrated with my application. I'm not shying away from instrumenting my methods. The output should be simple, i only need call count and time taken by methods and nothing else. I am mostly concerned about things INSIDE a method, you may call it line by line profiling. I want to select a method and know which line (expression / method call) is eating most of the time.

• How can I evaluate a deferred Linq statement when debugging?

  I'm debugging in VS2010, and I want to inspect a string value but all I can get the debugger to show me (through watches, hovering, locals, etc.) is: "System.Linq.Enumerable+<TakeIterator>d__3a`1[System.Char]" I don't care if there are side effects from premature evaluation or whatever, I just want to see what the expression would evaluate to if I evaluate it right now at the current breakpoint. How is this done? Also can I change my code in such a way that it evaluates earlier? Not that I care when I'm not debugging... but just wondering. In case it is relevant... (I doubt it.) I'm stuffing a new entity object before saving it to the database... some fields are assigned with LINQ statements, I'm not sure when they get evaluated under the covers of EF. The DB update fails with 'string or binary data would be truncated... So I'm trying to find the too-long field.

• Searching for simple variable names like 'c' or 'x' in Emacs.

  I often wish to search for variables that are simply called 'c' or 'count'. For example int c, count; Unfortunately when I use an incremental search for 'c' or 'count' I get a lot of unnecessary hits like the 'c' in 'choice', or the 'count' in 'wordcount' which do not interest me. I know Emacs can do i-searches with regular expressions but I don't know the correct regular expression needed to match just 'c' and 'count'. These words are often surrounded by any number of white spaces. Anyone know the regex I can use to narrow my search?

I have a problem in my asp.net 3.5 application (C#) when I try to render in my pages characters like 'è' which are shown in a very strange manner (if i'm lucky i get a ? mark in my web page). in fact Expression Web, when i open my web site, substitutes the è char with �... How can I tell asp.net that I want to use a particular charset so that i can write in the html source letters like è without using hexadecimal codes?????? I tried in the web.config this: inside the system.web namespace of the file but nothing works.... Can anyone tell me how to do? THANKS in advance

  Hi, I'm using ColdFusion's reReplace() function for regular expression pattern replacement. I'd like to use a function call for the replacement string, and pass a matched backreference to it. Something like this: <cfset s = "STARTDATE_2010-05-07 00:05:00.0_ENDDATE" /> <cfset s = reReplace(s, "STARTDATE_([\s-.:0-9]*)_ENDDATE", dateAdd("h", 1, "\1")) /> But that fails because "The value of parameter 3, which is currently \1, must be a class java.util.Date value."   I have a user control (ascx) that I have added two public properties to: RequestTypeId and GroupId. Both have the attribute set. In my aspx page, I have a ListView, and in the ItemTemplate, I place my control reference, like so: <ctrl:ServiceTypeGroup runat="server" RequestTypeId="<%#RequestType.RequestTypeId%>" GroupId='<%#Eval("Id").ToString()%>' /> Setting the RequestTypeId works fine. Setting the GroupId fails with the following error: "Databinding methods such as Eval(), XPath(), and Bind() can only be used in the context of a databound control." What do I need to do to my user control code to allow binding a Eval() expression to one of its properties? Or is it not possible?

  So, I basically would like to test to see if a string contains a range of alphanumeric characters. It's to be used as a client-side validation and I don't want to prevent users from entering whatever they want. Best to give examples of what should/should not pass validation: So to be specific, the expression I'm looking for is to test to make sure string contains anywhere from 3 to 10 alphanumeric characters. I'd like to plug into an ASP.NET client side validator. NOTE: quotes not part of input (but could be!) • Can you use regular expressions in struts-config.xml?

  I'm trying to route these two url's to different Actions. We are using Struts 1.2: /abc-def/products /abc-def I tried putting this action first: <action path="/abc*/products" type="com.business.exampleAction"> <forward name="success" path="/go"/> </action> and then this one after: <action path="/abc*" type="com.business.differentExampleAction"> <forward name="success" path="/goElsewhere"/> </action> but it always goes to the second action (differentExampleAction in this case). I've tried various iterations for the , like . or (.*), but haven't found anything that actually works yet. From what I've read, it seems like the only regular-expression-like characters allowed in struts-config are the wildcard symbols (* and **), but I hope I am wrong.

• GUID.TryParse() ?

  Obviously there is no public GUID.TryParse() in .NET CLR 2.0. So, I was looking into regular expressions [aka googling around to find one] and each time I found one there was a heated argument in the comments section about RegEx A doesn't work, use RegEx B. Then someone would write Regex C yadda yadda So anyway, What I decided to do was this, but I feel bad about it. public static bool IsGuid (string possibleGuid) { try { Guid gid = new Guid(possibleGuid); return true; } catch (Exception ex) { return false; } } Obviously I don't really like this since it's been drilled into me since day one to avoid throwing exceptions if you can defensibly code around it. Does anyonek now why there is no public Guid.TryParse() in the .NET Framework? Does anyone have a real Regular Expression that will work for all GUIDs?

  Oracle's NEAR operator for full text search returns a score based on the proximity of two or more query terms. For example: near((dog, bite), 6) matches if 'dog' and 'bite' occurs within 6 words. What if I'd like it to match if either 'dog' or 'cat' or any other type of animal occurs within 6 words of the word 'bite'? I tried: near(((dog OR cat OR animal), bite), 6) but I got: NEAR operand not a phrase, equivalence or another NEAR expression Rather than expanding all possible combination into multiple NEAR and 'or' them together, what is the proper way to write such query?

  In my database I have three tables: Users: UserID (Auto Numbering), UserName, UserPassword and a few other unimportant fields. PrivateMessages: MessageID (Auto Numbering), SenderID and a few other fields defining the message content. MessageStatus: MessageID, ReceiverID, MessageWasRead (Boolean) What I need is a query to which I input a user's id and I get all the private messages he has received. In addition, I also need to receive each message's sender UserName. For this I wrote the following query: SELECT Users.*, PrivateMessages.*, MessageStatus.* FROM PrivateMessages INNER JOIN Users ON PrivateMessages.SenderID = Users.UserID INNER JOIN MessageStatus ON PrivateMessages.MessageID = MessageStatus.MessageID WHERE MessageStatus.ReceiverID=[@userid]; But for some reason when I try saving it in my Access database, I get the following error (translated to English by me, since my office is in a different language): Syntax error (missing operator) at expression: "PrivateMessages.SenderID = Users.UserID INNER JOIN MessageStatus ON PrivateMessages.MessageID = MessageStatus.MessageI". Any ideas what could cause this? Thanks.

• WPF: How do I bind a Control to a formula composed of several dependency properties?

  Hi all, I'm working on Expression Blend and I'm currently designing a custom control which has a Grid with 5 rows inside, and also has two Dependency properties: "Value", and "Maximum". Three of the rows have fixed height, and what I'm trying to do is set the remaining rows height to "Value/Maximum" and "1-Value/Maximum" respectively. How do I go and do that? When I set the height to "Value" it seems to react, but when I go and set it to "Value/Maximum" it stops working. I'm still a bit new around WPF, so there must be another way to achieve what I'm intending, but after searching I couln't find my problem elsewhere.   I'm starting out in the world of SpecFlow and I have come across my first problem. In terms of keeping my code DRY I'd like to do the following: Have two scenarios: Given I am on a product page And myfield equals todays date Then... Given I am on a product page And myfield equals todays date plus 4 days Then... I was hoping to use the following Step Definition to cover both variants of my And clause: [Given(@"myfield equals todays date(?: (plus|minus) (\d+) days)?")] public void MyfieldEqualsTodaysDate(string direction, int? days) { //do stuff } However I keep getting exceptions when SpecFlow tries to parse the int? param. I've checked the regular expression and it definitely parses the scenario as expected. I'm aware that I could so something as crude as method overloading etc, I was just wondering if SpecFlow supported the idea of default parameter values, or indeed another way to achieve the same effect. • Writing an Eval Procedure in Scheme?

  My problem isn't with the built-in eval procedure but how to create a simplistic version of it. Just for starters I would like to be able to take this in '(+ 1 2) and have it evaluate the expression + where the quote usually takes off the evaluation. I have been thinking about this and found a couple things that might be useful: Unquote: , (quasiquote) (apply) My main problem is regaining the value of + as a procedure and not a symbol. Once I get that I think I should just be able to use it with the other contents of the list. Any tips or guidance would be much appreciated.

I have two options, create a new script that runs through and deletes all occurances of ", and then run the above script or modify the above script to ignore the " and contiue running. Can anyone help ?

  If I create this collection: IEnumerable<_TITLE> _titles = null; How can I set the result set from Netflix in this expression: _titles = from t in Titles where t.Id == "ApUFq" select new {t, t.Cast} I am getting: Cannot implicitly convert type 'System.Linq.IQueryable' to 'System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable<_Title'. An explicit conversion exists (are you missing a cast?) I understand it's because I am using an anonymous type. _TITLE is a custom complex object I create that exposes a subset of Netflix properties. If I add "_TITLE" in front the of the "new" it says that my object does not implement IENUMBERABLE. If then _TITLE implements IENUMBERABLE, it says _TITLE does not contain a definition for ADD and still getting conversion error. Basically, I want to set the _TITLE properties with the data returned from Netflix. I have defined _TITLE to contain the fields I need, plus a collection of PERSON (for Cast).

  I've got a vs2010 solution containing an ASP.Net 4 website, and a Silverlight 4 project. The website is linked to the Silverlight project ('Map') and the ClientBin folder contains a Map.xap file. The Map project is very simple. It contains the default App.xaml and App.xaml.cs files. However, I cannot break on any breakpoints set in the MainPage.xaml.cs file (in IE). I have checked the correct settings for Silverlight debugging. And see that Exception I'm throwing in the MainPage constructor? I'm not seeing that either. In fact, nothing I put in there seems to be run at all, but I know the xaml is rendering because I can see my canvas background. What am I not getting here?

• Issue with transparent texture on 3D primitive, XNA 4.0

  I need to draw a large set of cubes, all with (possibly) unique textures on each side. Some of the textures also have parts of transparency. The cubes that are behind ones with transparent textures should show through the transparent texture. However, it seems that the order in which I draw the cubes decides if the transparency works or not, which is something I want to avoid. Look here: cubeEffect.CurrentTechnique = cubeEffect.Techniques["Textured"]; Block[] cubes = new Block[4]; cubes[0] = new Block(BlockType.leaves, new Vector3(0, 0, 3)); cubes[1] = new Block(BlockType.dirt, new Vector3(0, 1, 3)); cubes[2] = new Block(BlockType.log, new Vector3(0, 0, 4)); cubes[3] = new Block(BlockType.gold, new Vector3(0, 1, 4)); foreach(Block b in cubes) { b.shape.RenderShape(GraphicsDevice, cubeEffect); } This is the code in the Draw method. It produces this result: As you can see, the textures behind the leaf cube are not visible on the other side. When i reverse index 3 and 0 on in the array, I get this: It is clear that the order of drawing is affecting the cubes. I suspect it may have to do with the blend mode, but I have no idea where to start with that.

• Using report viewer, how do I pull from two seperate Datasets

  I have two datasets I need to pull from, A base that both reports use and then a separate one that only one report pulls from. I get the error Error 12 The Value expression for the text box ‘Textbox9’ refers to the field ‘Name’. Report item expressions can only refer to fields within the current dataset scope or, if inside an aggregate, the specified dataset scope. My best guess is I have to associate them with the correct dataset but I have not been able to find any documentation on this. Can someone please tell me where in the rdlc document I need to code something like name.value, "dataset1" or something similar?
