    Suppose I have a string that contains '¿'. How would I find all those unicode characters? Should I test for their code? How would I do that? I want to detect it to avoid sax parser exception which I am getting it while parsing the xml saved as a clob in oracle 10g database. Exception javax.servlet.ServletException: org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: Invalid byte 1 of 1-byte UTF-8 sequence.

    Hi As i started programming by jdk6, i had no problem in text components neither in awt nor in swing. Unfortunately, opposed to other situations i encountered before, here there is no way to avoid using awt and make use of Swing in this case. And this was just an SSCCE i made to show the problem and my recent (also first) application suffers from this subject. And i think should have to let you know I posted this question a while ago in SDN and "the Java Ranch" forums and other native forums and still I'm watching... By the way i am using latest version of Netbeans IDE... I will be so grateful if anybody has a solution to this damn AWT components never rendered any Farsi character for me... Thanks in advance

    I'm trying to write a method that uses recursion to print the string formed by "interleaving" the strings str1 and str2. In other words, it should alternate characters from the two strings: the first character from str1, followed by the first character from str2, followed by the second character from str1, followed by the second character from str2, etc. How would I go about this?     I want to archive all .ctl files in a folder, recursively. tar -cf ctlfiles.tar `find /home/db -name "*.ctl" -print` The error message : tar: Removing leading `/' from member names tar: /home/db/dunn/j: Cannot stat: No such file or directory tar: 74.ctl: Cannot stat: No such file or directory I have these files: /home/db/dunn/j 74.ctl and j 75. Notice the extra space. What if the files have other special characters? How do I archive these files recursively?

    I am passing in command line arguments to my Lisp program and they are formatted like this when they hit my main function: ("1 1 1" "dot" "2 2 2") I have a dot function and would like to call it directly from the argument, but first I must strip the " characters. I tried variations of this function: (defun remove-quotes (s) (setf (aref s 0) '"")) to no avail, Lisp complains that "" is not a member of base-char. Thanks!

  • PHP - ___ encoding to UTF-8 - is there an end-all solution?

    I've looked across the web, I've looked through SO, through PHP documentation and more. It seems like a ridiculous problem not to have a standard solution to. If you get an unknown character set, and it has strange characters (like english quotes), is there a standard way to convert them to UTF-8? I've seen many messy solutions using a plethora of functions and checking and none of them are definitely going to work. Has anyone come up with their own function or a solution that always works?

    Hello, please, does any of you knows and can share an easy/clean way to find a substring within a string, but ignoring some specified characters to find it. I think an example would explain things better: string: "Hello, -this- is a string" substring to find: "Hello this" chars to ignore: "," and "-" found the substring, result: "Hello, -this" Using Regex it's not a requirement for me, just added the tag because it feels related.
