  • How to add .plugins to flat-packages

    I'm rewriting my installers to use flat-packages instead of the old package format. pkgbuild doesn't accept my .plugin bundles though. The error is pkgbuild: error: Path "/tmp/installroot/MIDIDriver.plugin" is not a valid bundle component (using destination path "/tmp/installroot)" I tried a lot of different bundles which all were recognized as they should. (.kext, .vst etc.). This problem only appears with .plugin-bundles. Does anyone know what is wrong with these?

    I have Microsoft Project Professional 2003 installed (11.2.2005.1801.15, SP2). I have been trying to open a MPP file created in a newer version so need the converter, which is part of SP3. But when I try to install the SP3 package (as downloaded from Microsoft's site) I get an error message box: --------------------------- Project 2003 Service Pack 3 (SP3) --------------------------- The expected version of the product was not found on your system. --------------------------- OK --------------------------- Project (and Office) are licensed and otherwise work correctly.   • Dell Studio 15 Broadcom wireless drivers not working in Linux Mint

    I installed Linux Mint 12 on my Dell Studio 15 and everything worked perfectly up until I tried updating the STA Driver for the Broadcom (BCM4312) wireless controller. I've tried these bash commands in order and I still don't have wireless. sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter firmware-b43-installer I've also tried uninstalling everything with synaptic package manager including broadcom-sta-common and broadcom-sta-source, then restarting and running the above commands which didn't work either. What's the best way to do this on a Dell Studio 15?

    How to find a (ie., Portable single executable) software requires a particular OS (Win98, Win98SE, WinME, Win2000, WinXP, Linux). I am using Win98SE in one pc and WinXP in another PC. If I copy/install a portable software or package in win98se, only after installing / executing that software, that program tell us it requires WinXP,. Is any software to find a particular software needs to run only in win98SE or greater. I tried Dependency Walker by Steve Miller but no results. Kindly help to solve this problem.

Currently the product roll out and updates are handled by Group Policy however I would like to control the updates via ClickOnce deployment now. What I would like to know is, how should I initially roll out the package to make sure that all users have got it. Can I use a combination of Group Policy (the roll out) and then rely on the ClickOnce deployment model for any further updates?

On Ubuntu it's been easy but now OpenJDK is a preferred option and easier to install... I wonder: is there any reason not to use it instead?   • autocomplete not working on one sever, works on others

    I have Ubuntu 10.10 x64 and x86 running on various servers and auto complete works on all of them bar one. The issue: apt-<tab> would show a list of options but sudo apt-<tab> would not. After fiddling with it for a few hours i've found that /etc/bash_autocomplete did not exist. on the broken server. Copying the one from a working one it now works. but still not properly. sudo apt-get ins<tab> does not show do anything. listing the files in /etc/bash_autocomplete.d/ on the working server has about 50 files, and the broken one only two or three. i dont think that i can just copy these files though as it might show commands for things that are not even installed. TL;DR autocomplete broken, how can i fix it. Seems like its disabled somewhere, why is this EDIT: Ok, it was not ever installed... $ sudo apt-get install bash-completion Reading package lists...   • How can I install both mod-perl2 and mod-php5 on Ubuntu?

    From Ubuntu's package libary, I find the two modules I need. However: mod-perl2 requires apache2-mpm-worker mod-php5 requires apache2-mpm-prefork The two apache modules are mutually exclusive and ask me to un-install the other in order to install each. Which means I can't get a server running with both mod-perl2 and mod-php5. Any help greatly appreciated.

    I have two new models to support, Optiplex 790 and Lenovo L520. I need to add their chipset drivers to the Windows Deployment server and Intel's driver package is a suite of chipset drivers. WDS discovers way too many: Prior to installing the chipset, SM_Bus shows a yellow exclamation in the Device Manager. When I install Intel's suite, the drivers are installed and SM_Bus is gone. How can I identify which drivers are being used?

  • Splitting an internet connection between multiple separate subnetworks

    Problem I have an internet connection that I want to split between four separate networks. My requirements are: I need to be able to monitor the amount of bandwidth and data being used by each network, and notify or control as necessary. The four networks should only be able to connect to the internet, not each other. My parents need to be able to operate it, so it needs a simple, preferably Windows-based GUI. Progress so far Server I have a mini-ITX server with six Gigabit ethernet ports - one for the ethernet internet connection, one for each of the four networks, and one for remote access to the server for administration. Bandwidth control I spent a long time researching solutions here. The majority of the control systems/software I found could control bandwidth usage via QOS, but could not monitor or control the amount of data being used. Eventually I found the SoftPerfect Bandwidth Manager, which has everything I need in terms of monitoring and control - per-interface quota management, usage statistics, a web interface for checking usage, and email notifications when quotas are exceeded. It is also Windows-based and has a simple GUI. Internet sharing This is where I am having issues. I am currently using Windows XP Pro SP2 for the server (yes, I know this is far from ideal, but it's the only spare Windows OS I currently have). I can't use the built-in Internet Connection Sharing for several reasons: The upstream internet router has an IP of 192.168.0.1 which ICS clashes with, and I cannot change the router settings. ICS can only share an internet connection with a single interface, but I have four. I have tried bridging the four network cards, but then the Bandwidth Manager cannot see the four individual interfaces - it only sees the bridge. I have tried setting up Dual DHCP DNS server (and am having issues getting DHCP offers to be received by clients), but that would still require gateway software of some sort, which I have been unable to find. My current attempt is to use OpenVPN, with a server for the internet NIC and a separate client for each of the four networks. My thought is that I could bridge the OpenVPN TAP devices to each NIC, meaning that the Bandwidth Manager would control traffic from the bridge instead of the interface. I have not made much progress here though - I've never used OpenVPN before. Questions Is there a Windows software package that does everything I need? (Unlikely, I know) Is there a Windows software package that will share internet between multiple NICs without bridging? Are either of my about attempts feasible? Would it help to have a newer/server version of Windows? Is there a non-Windows alternative that is easy to use?
