  • how do i do very fast inserts to SQL Server 2008

    I have a project that involves recording data from a device directly into a sql table. I do very little processing in code before writing to sql server (2008 express by the way) typically i use the sqlhelper class's ExecuteNoneQuery method and pass in a stored proc name and list of parameters that the SP expects. This is very convenient, but i need a much faster way of doing this. Thanks.

I'm doing an educational project in which 1) I record voice commands on a separate device and after appropriate processing etc... 2) I send 16-bit samples encapsulated in UDP packets over Ethernet to the PC. After receiving the packets and "extracting" data (samples) from them, I need to assemble the samples to a WAV file. Any example code? Any suggestions? Thank you in advance!

Finding and extracting the ClassName and MethodName is easy, but is there any simple way to extract the body of the method? With all possible '{' and '}' inside it? Or are regexes unsuitable for such task?

    Anyone know if ffmpeg does asynchronous file io? That is, the input file is read in a separate thread as to avoid io blocking the processing thread? Basically what I want to figure out is whether or not i need to do calls to "av_read_frame" inside a separate thread (to avoid blocking) or if ffmpeg alrdy handles this issue? How might I figure this out? I've tried downloading the ffmpeg source but haven't been able to find anything useful.

The Problem I'm Having is during the conversion, the ffmpeg process(es) use up so much CPU/Processing Power (near 100%), which slows down the response of my webserver.   • Broken cups installation on a ubuntu server 64

    Hi, I am having trouble with an cups installation. It seems to be in a broken state. When i try to reinstall it it stalls, the same if i try to remove it completely. I am running the server version 64 bit of Ubuntu 10.10 with kernel Linux version 2.6.35-22-server. When i try to start the cups daemon with the following command sudo service cups start It just stays there and nothing happens. I have tried to remove it, to be able to reinstall it, with the following command sudo apt-get purge cups It finally stalls with the following message Removing cups ... After that nothing happens.   • Varnish cached 'MISS status' object?

    My site uses nginx, varnish, jboss. And some url will be cached by varnish, it depends a response header from jboss. The first time, jboss tells varnish doesn't cache this url. Then the second request, jboss tells varnish to cache, but varnish won't cache it. I used varnishstat and found that 1 object is cached in Varnish, is that the 'MISS status' object? I remove grace code and the problem still exists. When I PURGE this url, varnish works fine and cache the url then. But I can't PURGE so much urls every startup time, how can I fix this?     I'm looking for a reliable backup solution on Windows, something with a feature set similar to Yadis. I've been using CrashPlan for 2 months, but their software lost more than 1TB of my data, that's why I'm looking for alternatives. Requirements: Real-time folder-to-folder backup: I don't need online features, I want to use this to duplicate my files between my local disks. Versioning support: Should be able to choose how many versions to keep of the files. Plain backup: I'd like to be able to open the backup without special software. No proprietary file format. External disk support: Shouldn't have any problem using external disks, at least on the source side. Backup every file, even locked/system files. (Yadis fails this one) Should start automatically, and have a comfortable GUI. Should use actively maintained and/or popular software. I don't want to use discontinued products. Optional requirements: Low RAM usage I'm not really comfortable with something that eats 1GB of my RAM. Compression support Preferably ZIP, but I'm not picky about this. Any ordinary everyday format is acceptable. Freeware or Open Source Preferred, but not necessary. I can do a one-time payment within reasonable bounds. (preferably under $100) I only need Windows support, but if it works on Linux, that's a plus. I've already searched and tried lots of software, most of them failed at the plain backup, the versioning or the locked file backup requirements.

    Should be another easy one here, but I need clarification on what they define as "heavy utilization" for Reserved Instance types. From their Website: Heavy Utilization RIs – Heavy Utilization RIs offer the most absolute savings of any Reserved Instance type. They’re most appropriate for steady-state workloads where you’re willing to commit to always running these instances in exchange for our lowest hourly usage fee. With this RI, you pay a little higher upfront payment than Medium Utilization RIs, a significantly lower hourly usage fee, and you’re charged that lower hourly rate for every hour in the Reserved Instance term you purchase. Using Heavy Utilization RIs, you can save up to 41% for a 1-year term and 58% for a 3-year term vs. running On-Demand Instances. If you’re trying to find a break-even utilization, you’re economically advantaged using Heavy Utilization RIs (vs. On-Demand Instances) if you plan to use your instance more than 43% of a 1-year term or 79% of a 3-year term. I'm assuming that, if I'm planning on running a 24/7 Web Server, then regardless of how many resources I consume (bandwidth, cpu cycles, memory), I would want to go with a Heavy Utilization Reserved Instance? This one Web Server in particular will likely barely budge the cpu, but it needs to be up and running 24/7. Not 100% on what they're defining as "heavy".
