  • Why cant I get a Thumb to be larger on a styled scrollbar in WPF.

    I have taken the MSDN templates for styling a scrollbar and have been trying to apply my different styles (Image on each track repeater and separate Image on the thumb) but I am unable to make the thumb change size. I have tried setting the Width on the Track.Thumb style and also in the ControlTemplate of the Thumb itself. For some reason the default size is only ever rendered even when the thumb actually occupies much more space. Does anyone know how to make the thumb render at the size that I want?   • How to change disclosure style when user enters in edit mode of a UITableView?

    Hello, guys. I have a UITableView that in 'normal' mode, show a UITableViewCellAccessoryDisclosureIndicator meaning if the user taps the row, another list is showed, like HIG says: "Disclosure indicator. When this element is present, users know they can tap anywhere in the row to see the next level in the hierarchy or the choices associated with the list item. Use a disclosure indicator in a row when selecting the row results in the display of another list. Don’t use a disclosure indicator to reveal detailed information about the list item; instead, use a detail disclosure button for this purpose." When the user tap the edit button in the top bar of the UITableView, I think I have to change the disclosure because if the user tap it, a view for changing the information of the current row is showed (see the bold line above), again, like HIG says: "Detail disclosure button. Users tap this element to see detailed information about the list item. (Note that you can use this element in views other than table views, to reveal additional details about something; see “Detail Disclosure Buttons” for more information.) In a table view, use a detail disclosure button in a row to display details about the list item. Note that the detail disclosure button, unlike the disclosure indicator, can perform an action that is separate from the selection of the row. For example, in Phone Favorites, tapping the row initiates a call to the contact; tapping the detail disclosure button in the row reveals more information about the contact." Have I miss understood the HIG, or I really do have to change the disclosure style in edit mode of UITableView? If yes, how I can intercept the edit mode when the user taps the Edit button?   • How to pass binary data between two apps using Content Provider?

    I need to pass some binary data between two android apps using Content Provider (sharedUserId is not an option). I would prefer not to pass the data (a savegame stored as a file, small in size < 20k) as a file (ie. overriding openFile()) since this would necessitate some complicated temp-file scheme to cope with concurrency with several content provider accesses and a running game. I would like to read the file into memory under a mutex lock and then pass the binary array in the simplest way possible. How do I do this? It seems creating a file in memory is not a possibility due to the return type of openFile(). query() needs to return a Cursor. Using MatrixCursor is not possible since it applies toString() to all stored objects when reading it. What do I need to do? Implement a custom Cursor? This class has 30 abstract methods. Do I read the file, put it in a SQLite db and return the cursor? The complexity of this seemingly simple task is mindboggling.

I tried forcing an app.Calculate() or app.CalculateFullRebuild() but nothing updates in the other application. The change event does not get fired when formulas change (i.e. a slider control causes a SheetCalculate event and not a SheetChange event) Is there a way to see what formulas were updated? Or is there an easier way to sync two workbooks programmatically in real time?

  • % style macros not supported in some C++/CLI project property pages under VS2010?

    We're currently evaluating VS2010 and have upgraded our VS2008 C++/CLI project to the new .vcxproj format. I've noticed that a certain property we had set in the project settings did not get translated properly. Under Configuration Properties - Managed Resources - Resource Logical Name, we used to have (in VS2008) the setting: $(IntDir)\$(RootNamespace).$(InputName).resources which indicated that all .resx files were to compile into OurLib.SomeForm.resources inside of the assembly. (the Debug portion is dropped when assembled) According to MSDN, the $(InputName) macro no longer exists and should be replaced with %(Filename). However, when translating the above line to swap those macros, it does not seem to ever expand. The second .resx file it tries to compile, I get a "LINK : fatal error LNK1316: duplicate managed resource name 'Debug\OurLib.%(Filename).resources". This indicates to me that the % style macros are not being expanded here, at least in this specific property. If we don't set anything in that property, the default behavior seems to be to add the subdirectory as a prefix, such as: OurLib.Forms.SomeForm.resources where Forms is the subdir of our project that the .resx file lives. This only occurs when the .resx file is in an immediate subdirectory of the project being built. If a .resx file exists somewhere else on disk (aka ..\OtherLib\Forms\SomeForm2.resx) this prefix is NOT added. This is causing an issue with loading form resources, as it does not account for this possible prefix, even though we are using the standard Forms Designer method of getting at resources: System::ComponentModel::ComponentResourceManager^ resources = (gcnew System::ComponentModel::ComponentResourceManager(SomeForm::typeid)); and do not specify the .resources file by name. The issue I've just described may not be the same as the original question, but if I were to fix the Resource Logical Name issue I think this would all go away. Does anyone have any information about these % macros and where they are allowed to be used?

    This is a less a question with a simple, practical answer and more a question to foster discussion on the real-time data exchange topic. I'll begin with an example: Google Wave is, at its core, a real-time asynchronous data synchronization engine. Wave supports (or plans to support) concurrent (real-time) document collaboration, disconnected (offline) document editing, conflict resolution, document history and playback with attribution, and server federation. A core part of Wave is the Operational Transformation engine: http://www.waveprotocol.org/whitepapers/operational-transform The OT engine manages document state. Changes between clients are merged and each client has a sane and consistent view of the document at all times; the final document is eventually consistent between all connected clients. My question is: is this system abstract or general enough to be used as a library or generic framework upon which to build web apps that synchronize real-time, asynchronous state in each client? Is the Wave protocol directly used by any current web applications (besides Google's client)? Would it make sense to directly use it for generic state synchronization in a web app? What other existing libraries or frameworks would you consider using when building such a web app? How much code in such an app might be domain-specific logic vs generic state synchronization logic? Or, put another way, how leaky might the state synchronization abstractions be? Comments and discussion welcomed!

  • How do I bind an iTunes style source list to an NSTableView using Core Data?

    I have an iTunes style interface in my application: Source list (NSOutlineView) on the left that contains different libraries and playlists with an NSTableView on the right side of the interface displaying information for "Presentations". Similar to iTunes, I am showing the same type of information in the table view whether a library or playlist is selected (title, author, date created, etc). I currently have an NSArrayController connected to my NSTableView and was setting the fetch predicate based on what was selected in the source list. This works fine when selecting a library because I can just set the fetch predicate to filter by the "type" field in my Presentation Core Data entity. When I try to adjust the fetch predicate for the playlist however, it doesn't look like there is any way to set the fetch predicate because I've got a table in between Playlists and Presentations to keep up with the order within the Playlist. According to the Apple docs, these type of predicates are not doable with Core Data (it basically doesn't multiple inner joins). Below is the relevant portion of my Data Model. Is my data model setup incorrectly? Should I drop the NSArrayController and handle connecting the NSTableView up by hand? I'm trying to figure out if there is a simple fix, or really a design flaw.

  • How do I do MongoDB console-style queries in PHP?

    I'm trying to get a MongoDB query from the javascript console into my PHP app. What I'm trying to avoid is having to translate the query into the PHP "native driver"'s format... I don't want to hand build arrays and hand-chain functions any more than I want to manually build an array of MySQL's internal query structure just to get data. I already have a string producing the exact content I want in the Mongo console: db.intake.find({"processed": {"$exists": "false"}}).sort({"insert_date": "1"}).limit(10); The question is, is there a way for me to hand this string, as is, to MongoDB and have it return a cursor with the dataset I request? Right now I'm at the "write your own parser because it's not valid json to kinda turn a subset of valid Mongo queries into the format the PHP native driver wants" state, which isn't very fun. I don't want an ORM or a massive wrapper library; I just want to give a function my query string as it exists in the console and get an Iterator back that I can work with. I know there are a couple of PHP-based Mongo manager applications that apparently take console-style queries and handle them, but initial browsing through their code, I'm not sure how they handle the translation. I absolutely love working with mongo in the console, but I'm rapidly starting to loathe the thought of converting every query into the format the native writer wants...

  • iPhone or Android apps that use SMS based authentication?

    What are some iPhone or Android applications that use SMS as their primary means of user authentication? I'm interested to see such apps in action. SMS-auth seems like a natural approach that is well-situated to mobile contexts. The basic workflow is: to sign up, a user provides a phone number; the app calls a backend webservice which generates a signed URL and sends it to the phone number via an SMS gateway; the user receives the SMS, clicks the link, and is thus verified and logged in. This results in a very strong user identity that is difficult to spoof yet fairly easy. It can be paired with a username or additional account attributes as needed for the product requirements. Despite the advantages, this does not seem to be in much use - hence my question. My initial assumption is that this is because products and users are wary of asking for / providing phone numbers, which users consider sensitive information. That said, I hope this becomes an increasingly more commonplace approach.

    How do I reliably get the size of a C-style array? The method often recommended seems to be to use sizeof, but it doesn't work in the foo function, where x is passed in: #include <iostream> void foo(int x[]) { std::cerr << (sizeof(x) / sizeof(int)); // 2 } int main(){ int x[] = {1,2,3,4,5}; std::cerr << (sizeof(x) / sizeof(int)); // 5 foo(x); return 0; } Answers to this question recommend sizeof but they don't say that it (apparently?) doesn't work if you pass the array around. So, do I have to use a sentinel instead? (I don't think the users of my foo function can always be trusted to put a sentinel at the end. Of course, I could use std::vector, but then I don't get the nice shorthand syntax {1,2,3,4,5}.)

  • Div's are not filtered as :hidden when display:none; is appended as style

I have jQuery code to toggle between displaying these, but I need to store as a cookie which one was used last time the user was logged in (i.e. which one was visible). The storing of the cookie is not the problem. The problem is that I for some reason am not able to detect which one is the hidden one, using .is(":hidden"), and not able to detect which one is visible using .is(":visible") When I use those two selectors, I always get both. "true" and "true" for both, eventhough one has display: none; and the other doesn't. Please note that they are NOT placed inside a hidden container which otherwise would hide both, so there are not any hidden ancestor containers.   • fastest public web app framework for quick DB apps?

    I'd like to pick up a new tech for my toolbox - something for rapid prototyping of web apps. Brief requirements: public access (not hosted on my machine) - like Google's appengine, etc no tricky configuration necessary to build a simple web app host DB access (small storage provided) including some kind of SQLish query language easy front end HTML templating ability to access as a JSON service C# or Java,PHP or Python - or a fun new language to learn is OK free! An example app, very simple: render an AJAXy editable (add/delete/edit/drag) list of rich-data list items via some template language, so I can quickly mock up a UI for a client. ie. I can do most of the work client-side, but need convenient back end to handle the permanent storage. (In fact I suppose it doesn't even need HTML templating if I can directly access a DB via AJAX calls.) I realize this is a bit vague but am wondering if anyone has recommendations. A Rails host might be best for this (but probably not free) or maybe App Engine, or some other choice I'm not aware of? I've been doing everything with heavyweight servers (ASP.NET etc) for so long that I'm just not up on the latest... Thanks - I'll follow up on comments if this isn't clear enough :)

  • In Email, Image (img) Source (src) Tags are rewritten as relative links. How to fix?

    I'm working on sending out an html based email, and every time it sends the image src tags and some of the anchor href tags are modified to be relative url's. Update 2: This is happening between when the body of the email is generated and sent and when it arrives in my inbox. Update: I am using Postfix on a LAMPP server. In addition, I am using Zend_Mail to send the emails out. For example, I have a link: src="http://www.furnituretrainingcompany.com/images/email/highpoint_2009_04/header.jpg" And it gets rewritten as: src="../../../../images/email/highpoint_2009_04/header.jpg" What can cause this to occur and how is it corrected?   • How can I load style resources from a dynamically loaded Silverlight application (XAP)?

    I've followed Tim Heuer's video for dynamically loading other XAP's (into a 'master' Silverlight application), as well as some other links to tweak the loading of resources and am stuck on the particular issue of loading style resources from within the dynamically loaded XAP (i.e. the contents of Assets\Styles.xaml). When I run the master/hosting applcation, it successfully streams the dynamic XAP and I can read the deployment info etc. and load the assembly parts. However, when I actuall try to create an instance of a form from the Dynamic XAP, it fails with Cannot find a Resource with the Name/Key LayoutRootGridStyle which is in it's Assets\Styles.xaml file (it works if I run it directly so I know it's OK). For some reason these don't show up as application resources - not sure if I've totally got the wrong end of the stick, or am just missing something?   • Can't change text color in Microsoft Word 2010

    I have Microsoft Office 2010 32-bit running on Windows 7 32-bit. When text is highlighted and a color is selected from the mini-toolbar or the ribbon, the text does not change color. If I change the color for multiple words, and select a different color for each word, the toolbar and ribbon will reflect each of the different colors that I chose, however it is not displayed in the document. So it appears that Word is aware of the text color and not as if it is simply not applying the change. What may be causing this inability to view text colors and how might I fix it? My only troubleshooting attempt so far has been to perform a repair installation of Office. EDIT 1 I created a document, typed a word, selected it and changed the color. I then saved the document as HTML. The text did not change color. a word Selected the word Changed the color. Oddly, I had some strange issues while the macro was recorded. I could not select text with my cursor. I had to select the text with control a and then apply the color change. I then couldn't deselect the selected text. Nonetheless, the text showed that it had a different color in the toolbar, but the color did not display in the document. Here's the macro: Sub Change_Text_Color() ' ' Change_Text_Color Macro ' ' Selection.TypeText Text:="Test Text" Selection.WholeStory Selection.WholeStory End Sub EDIT 3 I opened WordPad and created some text and was able to successfully change the color. If I copy and paste the colored text into a Word 2010 document, the color is lost. However, if you place the I-beam in the text and then look at the color selection drop-down menu on the ribbon or mini-toolbar, you can see that the proper color that the text should be in is highlighted. Edit 4 I uninstalled the entire Office 2010 Suite, rebooted and then reinstalled the suite. No change in behavior. Edit 5 Text cannot be colored in Excel either.

  • Work at Oracle as a Fresh Student by Ang Sun

    The past months have flown by since I started working at Oracle; but at the same time it feels like I’ve been here forever. I came to Beijing to find a job after I graduated from The University of Southampton with a MSc in Software Engineering. I got an offer the next day after I had an interview with my manager. This new style of working life hasn’t been a problem with me. The atmosphere here is fantastic and everyone is so friendly and easy to talk to. I am the first member in our AIE China Team. We do appreciate those colleagues from Core I/O team who helped us a lot to familiarize ourselves with the new environment. After hire orientation training I got to know many new people from various teams including Middleware, People Soft and Solaris. Also Oracle provides weekly system online training as additional training for those people who need it. The best thing about working at Oracle is that there is a balance between work and rest. It’s good to have a really nice park and green space near the Oracle buildings. Most of us like to walk around the riverside after lunch before we get back to work. I like to grab a cup of latte before discussing issues and the schedule of our projects in a weekly conference call with my US colleagues. It has been great experience; I am working alongside talented colleagues from different countries and nationalities.   • Which StackOverflow-style MarkDown (WMD) javascript editor should I use?

    Background I'm working on an application which requires user-entered content, and I've decided to use a StackOverflow-style MarkDown editor. After researching this topic for the last few days, I realize there are numerous forks of the base WMD editor, some with a few basic enhancements and some with serious differences from the StackOverflow one. Since this will be the heart of the application, I'd like to start with the best code base I can. I'd be happy if anyone can recommend which one of the many solutions out there best fits my needs. Below is requirements, plus what I've managed to find already. I'm hoping this question will help me decide which version to go with, and maybe help me discover a port out there that's an even better fit for my needs. The requirements for my project Live Preview Multiple editors on the same page (not know how many in advance, since the user can dynamically add another editing box). Ability to extend with extra buttons (I'd like a button to upload a picture, instead of just adding an img url). Ability to dynamically show/hide the edit box (and only see the preview box). Not an absolute must, but I'd prefer to stick as close to StackOverflow's look and feel, since it's well known. Don't know if this matters, but the backend is written in Django. Editors I've looked at Here are a few of the code bases I've looked at, with thoughts. Obviously, I might be missing another solution out there. The derobins version. From what I can tell, this is the official StackOverflow version. Seems like it doesn't support multiple editors on one page. JQuery.MarkEdit. Looks very good, but is pretty different from the StackOverflow version. MooWMD. Looks like the winner right now, but I'm a little concerned since it looks less active/hackable than MarkEdit. The wmd-new version. Not sure, looks like an old codebase without much use. The SocialSite branch. Seems like it's not for public use.

I have absolutely no idea why, as I know all the surrounding functions execute, and First_Array is populated.     Hi guys! As a CSS newbie I'm wondering if it's recommended by professionals to repeat specific style attributes and their not inherited but default properties for every relevant selector? For example, should I rather use body {background:transparent none no-repeat; border:0 none transparent; margin:0; padding:0;} img {background:transparent none no-repeat; border:0 none transparent; margin:0; outline:transparent none 0; padding:0;} div#someID {background:transparent none no-repeat; border:0 none; margin:0 auto; padding:0; text-align:left; width:720px; ...} or body {background:transparent; border:0; margin:0; padding:0;} img {background:transparent; border:0; margin:0; outline:0; padding:0;} div#someID {background:transparent; border:0; margin:0 auto; padding:0; text-align:left; width:720px; ...} or just what (I think) I really need body {background:transparent; margin:0; padding:0;} img {border:0; outline:0;} div#someID {margin:0 auto; width:720px; ...} If it's best practice to go with the first or second one what do you think about defining a class like .foo {background:transparent; border:0; margin:0; padding:0;} and then applying it to every relevant selector: <div id="someID" class="foo">...</div> Yep, now I'm totally confused... so please advise!
