  • Excel on Mac Mini OS X Version 10.7.2 - Create text file named after a cell containing other cell data from other cells

    I tried using the code below for the Excel program on my `Mac Mini using the OS X Version 10.7.2 and it keeps saying Error due to file name / path: (The Excel fiel I am creating is going to be a template with my formulas and macros installed which will be used over and over). Sub CreateFile() Do While Not IsEmpty(ActiveCell.Offset(0, 1)) MyFile = ActiveCell.Value & ".txt" fnum = FreeFile() Open MyFile For Output As fnum Print #fnum, ActiveCell.Offset(0, 1) & " " & ActiveCell.Offset(0, 2) Close #fnum ActiveCell.Offset(1, 0).Select Loop End Sub What Im trying to do: 1st Objective I would like to have the following data to be used to create a text file. A:A is what I need the name of the file to be. B:2 is the content I need in the text file. So, A2 - "repair-video-game-Glassboro-NJ-08028.txt" is the file name and B2 to be the content in the file. Next, A3 is the file name and B3 is the content for the file, etc. ONCE the content reads what is in cell A16 and B16 (length will vary), the file creation should stop, if not then I can delete the additional files created. This sheet will never change. Is there a way to establish the excel macro to always go to this sheet instead of have to select it with the mouse to identify the starting point? 2nd Objective I would like to have the following data to be used to create a text file. A:1 is what I need the name of the file to be. B:B is the content I want in the file. So, A2 - is the file name "geo-sitemap.xml" and B:B to be the content in the file (ignore the .xml file extension in the photo). ONCE the content cell reads what is in cell "B16" (length will vary), the file creation should stop, if not then I can adjust the cells that have need content (formulated content you see in the image is preset for 500 rows). This sheet will never change. Is there a way to establish the excel macro to always go to this sheet instead of have to select it with the mouse to identify the starting point? I can Provide the content in the cells that are filled in by excel formulas that are not not to be included in the .txt files. It is ok if it is not possible.     I have an Excel Spreadsheet with a ZIP code column. For some dumb reason the original spreadsheet I got had all the zip codes stored as numbers, so a ZIP code like 01234 was stored as 1234. Easy to fix with "Format Column" as "Special = ZIP Code". All values like 1234, show up as 01234. Great! When I import it into Word via Mail Merge (to print address labels), the ZIP codes on all the addresses starting with a leading zero (like 01234) revert to their old form (1234). How do I fix this?

  • Redundant Microsoft server solution for small company

    I'm planning to change one server Microsoft SBS 2003 with SharePoint, Exchange and SQL database into something that will provide me with some redundancy and won't be single point of failure. I was thinking to buy 2x exactly the same physical servers and put 2 virtualized servers on HyperV or VMWare on each. Then i would put SharePoint, Exchange and SQL on that 1 physical server (shared onto 2x VM's). I would like 2nd physical server to be exact duplicate of the first one so that when 1st server goes down (for reboot or hw failure), 2nd takes care of everything so that users don't even see anything changed (in terms all their emails, sharepoint stuff is available). My questions are: Will I have to pay for licenses for both servers even thou only one instance of SharePoint, Exchange, SQL will be used at same time? What are proposed solutions to do that? Any additional hardware I would need, any complicated software configuration to be expected to configure such redundancy so that when one physical server goes down 2nd one is taking care of rest? What problems should I expect? This solution is for 60 people. Later on it may or may expand.

Problem: When a user conducts a search with results on the web page - the user would have to select the criteria again then click the create excel button to create the sheet. How can I work it, so the user after conducting a search can just click one button to create the excel sheet? (Using "Post" for the form)

  • Microsoft Access: computer freezes when user tries to update record

    A colleague and I have developed an Access 2003 database which is used throughout our department. Currently about four dozen people do data entry using one of two very similar forms. If 47 of us use them, they work perfectly. If Mr. 48 clicks the "Save" button, Windows XP freezes and a hard reset is needed. The problem has to be on his specific computer (Dell latitude D630) and not in the code because this problem only affects him. Complicating the matter: I don't work for IS, and this project is not supported by IS. If I'm going to get our tech support to fix the problem I had better be able to explain exactly what to do and how to do it, because they aren't going to invest any resources. I don't even have admin rights on the computer (and neither does its regular user). I've asked him to bring his laptop the next time he visits my building. (Just to make matters worse, he doesn't usually work in the same location as me or the other developer.) Any suggestions on debugging the problem? My first try will be to uninstall and reinstall Office, which I can do using corporate utilities without being admin. Note: yes, those are old versions of Office and Windows. We expect to upgrade later this year.

  • Why is purchasing Microsoft licences such a daunting task? [closed]

    I've spent 2 frustrating days jumping through hoops and browsing through different local e-shops for VS (Visual Studio) 2010 Pro. And WHS (Windows Home Server) FPP 2011 licenses. I found jack .. - or to be more precise, the closest I found in my country was WHS OEM 2011 licenses after multiple emails sent to individuals found on Microsoft partners page. Question being, why is it so difficult to get your hands on Microsoft licenses as an individual? Sure, you can get the latest end user operating systems from most shops, but when it comes to development tools or server software you are left dry. And companies that do sell licenses most of the time don't even put up pricing or a self service environment for buying the licenses, you need to have an hawk's eye for that shiny little Microsoft partner logo and spam through bunch of emails not knowing, if you can count on them to get the license or not. Sure, i could whip out my credit card and buy the VS 2010 license on the online Microsoft Shop. Well whippideegoddamndoo, they sell that, but they don't sell WHS 11 licenses. Why does a company make it so hard to buy their products? Let's not even talk about the licensing itself being a pain.

    Take a simple table like below: Column Headings: || Agent's Name || Time Logged In || Center || Row 1: Andrew || 12:30 PM || Home Base Row 2: Jeff || 7:00 AM || Virtual Base Row 3: Ryan || 6:30 PM || Test Base Now lets say that a single cell is deleted so the table now looks like this: Column Headings: || Agent's Name || Time Logged In || Center || Row 1: Andrew || 12:30 PM || Row 2: Jeff || 7:00 AM || Virtual Base Row 3: Ryan || 6:30 PM || Test Base Notice that "Home Base" is missing. Now in excel you can delete the cell and shift the rest so the finished product looks like below: Column Headings: || Agent's Name || Time Logged In || Center || Row 1: Andrew || 12:30 PM || Virtual Base Row 2: Jeff || 7:00 AM || Test Base Row 3: Ryan || 6:30 PM || And you can see we are left with a blank cell last row. How do I code this procedure of shifting the cells up in SQL? I've been struggling on this problem for weeks! Thank you!

  • Excel get_Range missing when interop assembly is embedded in .NET 4.0

    I build an assembly referencing a COM interop DLL. If I embed the COM interop types by setting Embed Interop Types to True in the Reference's properties (VS2010), at run-time an error occurs "object does not contain a definition for get_Range". If COM interop types are not embedded then no error occurs. Does anyone know why a particular method, Worksheet.get_Range should be ommitted or how to work around this or have any other relevant insights? I should be grateful for any help. The interop dll contains a reference to Worksheet.get_Range(object, [object]). Using reflector on my calling assembly there is no mention of get_Range under Worksheet. The interop assembly I am embedding is generated from Excel9.olb. I am not using PIAs as the application targets multiple Excel versions.

EDIT: This is my VBA function signature: Public Function MyCustomFunction(str As String) As String The function sits in the ThisWorkbook module. If I try to use it in the worksheet as shown above, I get the #NAME? error. Solution (Thanks, codeape): The function is not accessible when it is defined ThisWorkbook module. It must be in a "proper" module, one that has been added manually to the workbook.

  • Excel - Looping through data till it finds the right one

    I'm pulling data from one Excel table into another using an IF statement. I want it to check two fields and if it is a match I want it to print something and if it doesn't then I want it to continue searching. If there is no absolute match then leave the field blank. I believe I'm running into an syntax issue but after numerous iterations I can't get it to pull everything over.   • Data refresh and drill down problem with SSAS cube and excel services

    I have a SSAS cube which I am using in an excel document, prepare a report which has drill-down etc and i am publishing it to a sharepoint site. It gets published alright but when I try to drill down it throws an error "Data Refresh failed" etc.The data source and the sharpoint site are on the same machine(running windows server 2008) and we have windows authentication running. From what I have been able to find on the internet there is a problem with passing the windows authentication credentials to the database etc.But I have not been able to find the exact way to sort out these problem. What is the solution for this????

  • Excel VSTO ->Hide/Unhide Ribbon Button based on another Ribbon Button click

    We are creating Excel 2007 AddIn using VSTO. Now we have a scenario where in there are 2 buttons. Button 'A' and Button 'B'. Button 'B'needs to be hidden based on the click on the button 'A'. But since the ribbon bar is not getting refreshed dynamically we are unable to see the change on the Ribbon Bar. I heard from some blods we need to use callback methods for the same. Could you please explain and put some code snippet on how to do that ? Will highly appreciate if anyone can help asap ...

  • Open an Excel htm URL via iFrame in a separate browser

    I have some URLs in an Excel file which I have saved as a .htm (webpage) file. I then view these in a browser via our wiki (MediaWiki). This is done using an iFrame embedded in the wiki page. So, just for clarity, the link is in a htm file viewed via an iFrame in a wiki page. When I click on that link, it opens inside the iFrame. What I want is for it to open in a new browser window. (This should be the user's default browser since some use Internet Explorer and some Firefox.) The final twist is that some users have Windows XP and some Solaris. Help greatly appreciated.

  • How to effectively use WorkbookBeforeClose event correctly?

    On a daily basis, a person needs to check that specific workbooks have been correctly updated with Bloomberg and Reuters market data ie. all data has pulled through and that the 'numbers look correct'. In the past, people were not checking the 'numbers' which led to inaccurate uploads to other systems etc. The idea is that 'something' needs to be developed to prevent the use from closing/saving the workbook unless he/she has checked that the updates are correct/accurate. The numbers look correct action is purely an intuitive exercise, thus will not be coded in any way. The simple solution was to prompt users prior to closing the specific workbook to verify that the data has been checked. Using VSTO SE for Excel 2007, an Add-in was created which hooks into the WorkbookBeforeClose event which is initialised in the add-in ThisAddIn_Startup private void wb_BeforeClose(Xl.Workbook wb, ref bool cancel) { //.... snip ... if (list.Contains(wb.Name)) { DailogResult result = MessageBox.Show("some message", "sometitle", MessageBoxButtons.YesNo); if (result != DialogResult.Yes) { cancel = true; // i think this prevents the whole application from closing } } } I have found the following ThisApplication.WorkbookBeforeSave vs ThisWorkbook.Application.WorkbookBeforeSave which recommends that one should use the ThisApplication.WorkbookBeforeClose event which I think is what I am doing since will span all files opened. The issue I have with the approach is that assuming that I have several files open, some of which are in my list, the event prevents Excel from closing all files sequentially. It now requires each file to be closed individually. Am I using the event correctly and is this effective & efficient use of the event? Should I use the Application level event or document level event? Is there a way to prevent the above behaviour? Any other suggestions are welcomed VS 2005 with VSTO SE

    Hi, I have just migrated an older ASP solution to a windows 2008 server and everything works out fine except for using ADOX.Catalog to list all the worksheets in an uploaded xls file.     Hi I have a function to return a DataView containing info on sheets in an Excel Workbook, as follows: Public Function GetSchemaInfo() As DataView Using connection As New OleDbConnection(GetConnectionString()) connection.Open() Dim schemaTable As DataTable = connection.GetOleDbSchemaTable(OleDbSchemaGuid.Tables, Nothing) connection.Close() Return New DataView(schemaTable) End Using End Function This works fine except that if the workbook has linked data (i.e. pulls its data from another workbook), duplicate sheet names are returned. For example, Workbook1 has a single worksheet, Sheet1. I get 2 rows in the DataView, with the TABLE_NAME field being "Sheet1$" and "Sheet1$_". OK, I could use a RowFilter, but wondered whether there was a better way or why this extra row is returned? thanks Richard

I dont know what to put as 4th and 5th parameters. The first 3 are Excel constants equivalent to xlValidateList, xlValidAlertStop and xlBetween respectively. $ws.Range("A1").Validation.Add(3, 1, 1, "=STATE", 0) Please help. Thanks.
