• LDAP object class violation: attribute ou not allowed in suffix?

  I am about to set up a LDAP directory. It is used as a tool to communicate user permissions from a web application to WebDav file system access, e.g. adding a user to the web platform shall allow login to the file system with the same credentials. There are no other usages intended. Following this German tutorial which encourages the use of the attributes c, o, ou etc. over dc, I configured the following suffix and root: suffix "ou=webtool,o=myOrg,c=de" rootdn "cn=ldapadmin,ou=webtool,o=myOrg,c=de" Server starts and I can connect to it by LDAP Admin, which reports “LDAP error: Object lacks”. Well, there aren’t any objects yet. I now want to create the root and admin elements from shell. I created an init.ldif file: dn: ou=webtool,o=myOrg,c=de objectclass: dcObject objectclass: organization dc: webtool o: webtool dn: cn=ldapadmin,ou=webtool,o=myOrg,c=de objectclass: organizationalRole cn: ldapadmin Trying to load the file runs into an error, telling me that ou is not allowed: server:~ # ldapadd -x -D "cn=ldapadmin,ou=webtool,o=myOrg,c=de" -W -f init.ldif Enter LDAP Password: adding new entry "ou=webtool,o=myOrg,c=de" ldap_add: Object class violation (65) additional info: attribute 'ou' not allowed I am not using ou anywhere except in the suffix, so the question: Isn’t it allowed here? What is allowed here? Here is my answer. I am not allowed to post it as answer for 8 hours, so don’t mind that it is part of the question by now. I will move it outside some day, if I don’t forget to do so. There are numberous dependencies for the creation of elements, and error messages are rather confusing if you don’t know of the concept. The objectclass isn’t necessarily dcObject for the databases’ root node, as it is likely to guess when you read several tutoriales. Instead, it must correspond to the object’s type: Here, for a name starting with ou=, it must be organizationalUnit. I found this piece of information in these tables [Link removed due to restriction: Oops! Link is below]. Further on, the object class dictates which properties must and can be added in the record. Here, organizationalUnit must have an ou: entry and must not have neither dc: nor o: entry. The healthy init.ldif file looks like that: dn: ou=webtool,o=myOrg,c=de objectclass: organizationalUnit ou: LDAP server for my webtool dn: cn=ldapadmin,ou=webtool,o=myOrg,c=de objectclass: organizationalRole cn: ldapadmin Note: The page also states: “While many objectClasses show no MUST attributes you must (ouch) follow any hierarchy […] to determine if this is the really case.” I thought that would mean my root record would have to provide the must fields for c= and o= (c: and o:, respectively) but this isn’t the case. • WiX 3 Tutorial: Custom EULA License and MSI localization

  In this part of the ongoing Wix tutorial series we’ll take a look at how to localize your MSI into different languages. We’re still the mighty SuperForm: Program that takes care of all your label color needs. :) Localizing the MSI With WiX 3.0 localizing an MSI is pretty much a simple and straightforward process. First let look at the WiX project Properties->Build. There you can see "Cultures to build" textbox. Put specific cultures to build into the testbox or leave it empty to build all of them. Cultures have to be in correct culture format like en-US, en-GB or de-DE. Next we have to tell WiX which cultures we actually have in our project. Take a look at the first post in the series about Solution/Project structure and look at the Lang directory in the project structure picture. There we have de-de and en-us subfolders each with its own localized stuff. In the subfolders pay attention to the WXL files Loc_de-de.wxl and Loc_en-us.wxl. Each one has a <String Id="LANG"> under the WixLocalization root node. By including the string with id LANG we tell WiX we want that culture built. For English we have <String Id="LANG">1033</String>, for German <String Id="LANG">1031</String> in Loc_de-de.wxl and for French we’d have to create another file Loc_fr-FR.wxl and put <String Id="LANG">1036</String>. WXL files are localization files. Any string we want to localize we have to put in there. To reference it we use loc keyword like this: !(loc.IdOfTheVariable) => !(loc.MustCloseSuperForm) This is our Loc_en-us.wxl. Please call user support.</String> </WixLocalization>   As you can see from the file we can use localization variables in other variables like we do for SuperFormNewerVersionInstalled string. ProductKeyCheckDialog* strings are to localize a custom dialog for Product key check which we’ll look at in the next post. Built in dialog text localization Under the de-de folder there’s also the WixUI_de-de.wxl file. This files contains German translations of all texts that are in WiX built in dialogs. It can be downloaded from WiX 3.0.5419.0 Source Forge site. Download the wix3-sources.zip and go to \src\ext\UIExtension\wixlib. There you’ll find already translated all WiX texts in 12 Languages. Localizing the custom EULA license Here it gets ugly. We can override the default EULA license easily by overriding WixUILicenseRtf WiX variable like this: <WixVariable Id="WixUILicenseRtf" Value="License.rtf" /> where License.rtf is the name of your custom EULA license file. The downside of this method is that you can only have one license file which means no localization for it. That’s why we need to make a workaround. License is checked on a dialog name LicenseAgreementDialog. What we have to do is overwrite that dialog and insert the functionality for localization. This is a code for LicenseAgreementDialogOverwritten.wxs, an overwritten LicenseAgreementDialog that supports localization. We’ve changed the original license text source to "$(var.ProjectDir)\!(loc.LicenseRtf)". var.ProjectDir is the directory of the project file. The !(loc.LicenseRtf) is where the magic happens. Scroll up and take a look at the wxl localization file example. We have the LicenseRtf declared there and it’s been made overridable so developers can change it if they want. The value of the LicenseRtf is the path to our localized EULA relative to the WiX project directory. With little hacking we’ve achieved a fully localizable installer package.   The final step is to insert the extended LicenseAgreementDialogOverwritten license dialog into the installer GUI chain. • iPad UISplitView initial state in portrait: how to display popover controller widget?

  Hi, I'm working on an iPad app that uses a UISplitView. Inspired by http://blog.blackwhale.at/2010/04/your-first-ipad-split-view-application/, I display a button in my detail view when in portrait mode that shows the popover controller. This works great. However, the appropriate UISplitViewControllerDelegate message is only sent when the device rotates. So, when the app first loads (in portrait mode), my navigation button is not visible. Is it possible to somehow convince the UISplitViewController to send that message on load or something, or do I need to re-implement my own popover logic to get things working? Thanks, -Patrick

  Hi all, I'm against it as I'm sure ALL of you are, but my client wants background music on their website. I'm very new to this, so was wondering how should I do that? I know I should use iframes, but what's the actual way of using them? eg: do I just create the home page with 2 frames (one for the music, one for the rest of the website), and then every time the user clicks on a link I can load the usual destination page - or should I update all pages in some way to make sure they are 'frames enabled'? Also, I do I style the frame to make sure it's hidden? thanks, Patrick ps please don't reopen the discussion about why background music is not good - I do know that and personally hate it.   Ok, I am like other and new to jUnit and having a difficult time trying to get it working. I have searched the forum but the answers provided; I am just not getting. If anyone out there could lend me a hand I would greatly appreciate it.   Hi, MSDN states that it is possible in .NET to capture the output of a process and display it in the console window at the same time. Normally when you set StartInfo.RedirectStandardOutput = true; the console window stays blank. As the MSDN site doesn't provide a sample for this I was wondering if anyone would have a sample or could point me to a sample? When a Process writes text to its standard stream, that text is normally displayed on the console. By redirecting the StandardOutput stream, you can manipulate or suppress the output of a process. For example, you can filter the text, format it differently, or write the output to both the console and a designated log file. MSDN This post is similar to http://stackoverflow.com/questions/786726/capture-standard-output-and-still-display-it-in-the-console-window by the way. I'm trying to plot around 6500 points and the line y = x on the same graph but am having some trouble in doing so. I can only seem to get the points to render and not the line itself. I know matplotlib doesn't plot equations as such rather just a set of points so I'm trying to use and identical set of points for x and y co-ordinates to produce the line.   I'm trying to parse a string containing milliseconds like this: string s = "11.05.2010 15:03:08.7718687"; // culture: de-CH DateTime d = DateTime.Parse(s); // works However, for example under the de-DE locale, the decimal separator is a comma (not a dot). So the example becomes: string s = "11.05.2010 15:03:08,7718687"; // culture: de-DE (note the comma) DateTime d = DateTime.Parse(s); // throws a FormatException It is weird to me that DateTime.Parse(s) should throw a FormatException now as it is supposed to use the CultureInfo.CurrentCulture to do the parsing. Even passing the CurrentCulture as an argument explicitly does not help neither. Does anybody have an idea why this does not work? Doesn't parsing take the NumberFormatInfo.NumberDecimalSeparator into account?

• Web service can't open named pipe - access denied

  Hi All, I've got a C++ service which provides a named pipe to clients with a NULL SECURITY_ATTRIBUTES as follows: hPipe = CreateNamedPipe( lpszPipename, PIPE_ACCESS_DUPLEX | FILE_FLAG_OVERLAPPED, PIPE_TYPE_BYTE | PIPE_READMODE_BYTE | PIPE_WAIT, PIPE_UNLIMITED_INSTANCES, BUFSIZE, BUFSIZE, 0, NULL); There is a dll which uses this pipe to get services. There is a c# GUI which uses the dll and works fine. There is a .net web site which also uses this dll (the exact same one on the same PC) but always gets permission denied when it tries to open the pipe. Any one know why this might happen and how to fix it? Also does anyone know of a good tutorial on SECURITY_ATTRIBUTES because I haven't understood the msdn info yet. Thanks, Patrick

  After executing some new code, my C++ application started to behave strange (incorrect or incomplete screen updates, sometimes no screen updates at all). After a while we found out that the new code is causing an Access Violation. Strange enough, the application simply keeps on running (but with the incorrect screen updates). At first we thought the problem was caused by a "try-catch(...)" construction (put there by an overactive ex-colleague), but several hours later (carefully inspecting the call stacks, adding many breakpoints, ...) we found out that if there's an Access Violation in a paint event, Windows catches it, and simply continues running the application. Is this normal behavior? Is it normal that Windows catches exceptions/errors during a paint event? Is there a way to disable this? (if not, it would mean that we have to always run in the debugger with all exceptions enabled while testing our code). Patrick

• Are there any modern platforms with non-IEEE C/C++ float formats?

  Hi all, I am writing a video game, Humm and Strumm, which requires a network component in its game engine. I can deal with differences in endianness easily, but I have hit a wall in attempting to deal with possible float memory formats. I know that modern computers have all a standard integer format, but I have heard that they may not all use the IEEE standard for floating-point integers. Is this true? While certainly I could just output it as a character string into each packet, I would still have to convert to a "well-known format" of each client, regardless of the platform. The standard printf() and atod() would be inadequate. Please note, because this game is a Free/Open Source Software program that will run on GNU/Linux, *BSD, and Microsoft Windows, I cannot use any proprietary solutions, nor any single-platform solutions. After some research, I found that I have 2 options:- IronPython + .NET Framework Python + PyQt May I know which one is better for Windows Application development? Which option has more features (e.g. database support, etc)? Other than the .NET support, is there any big difference between IronPython and Python? Which one is a better choice for me? Thank you. • How to build a Windows Forms email-aware text box?

  Hi, I'm building a C# client app that allows a user to communicate with one or more existing users in a system via an email-like metaphor. I'd like to present the user with a text entry box that auto-completes on known email addresses, and allows multiple delimiter-separated addresses to be entered. Ideally, I'd also like the email addresses to turn into structured controls once they've been entered and recognized. Basically, I'm modeling the UI interaction for adding users after Facebook's model. Are there any Windows Forms controls out there with the ability to do something like this? Is there any well-established terminology for a hybrid textbox / control list box (no, not a ComboBox) or something that I should be searching for? Thanks, -Patrick

• Stacking a View with the Editor Area?

  Hello everybody, :-) Is it possible, when developing an Eclipse RCP Application, to stack a view with the editor area? Like this? http://www.fotos-hochladen.net/stackingaviewwithane9e1fdbvp.png I have multiple lists / tables. I want to create a kind of preview composite. When an Item on a list is selected by single mouse click, i want my preview composite to show the data of the item. If the user double clicks an item, i want to open an editor in the stack behind the preview composite. Is there anyway to achieve this? Thanks Patrick :-)

• dumpbin equivalent in Qt

  Is there any utility similar to dumpbin(Visual Studio) in Qt that allows me to check the functions that are exposed in a Qt-Creator compiled dll ?? I need to know what methods are exposed in a given dll so that I can load the method dynamically at runtime using QLibrary. Thanks, De Costo
