• Removable Disk Drives Not Appearing

  OS: Vista, SP1 My SD/MMC drive does not appear anywhere (MyComputer, Disk Manager). In My Computer the only available drives ar C:\, D:\ and J:. I can no longer view any removable disk drives. When I put my SD card into its slot, it doesn't get read at all. I can't load pictures from my card to my PC. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  I've received an email with an embedded table. I want to put some marks inside that table (i.e., edit the contentof the table) and send it back. Unfortunately, the Gmail interface doesn't seem to have table editing capabilities: after I hit reply, I see the table in the quoted text of the original message, but is not editable... If this is not possible in Gmail, how do I export the HTML source of this messsage and edit in another installed word processor?

• Tape vs SSDs backups regarding long-term storage reliability

  My question is very specifically about solid state drives, not regular hard drives. I would like to put in place a grandfather-father-son backup scheme, with the SSDs being used for the grandfather and father portions, and the yearly grandfather would be locked in a safe offsite for maybe 5-10 years. Can I expect that after this period of time the data would be preserved as well as it would be on a tape?

  Hello. I have a friend who's put himself in that age-old position: His OS partition has turned out to be too small for his needs. He'd really like to be able to repartition his harddrive without formatting it. In the past Partition Magic would have leapt to mind, but apparently Symantec bought that in 2003 and never updated it (and then officially discontinued it). Is there a "modern day" Partition Magic that every uses for desperate situations like this, that also works under Windows 7? Thanks

  I wonder if there is an option (inside of Evernote or outside of it, manually with the help of 3rd party tools) to locate the biggest notes inside of Evernote? I want to remove those or put them into another system. Basically a "order after note(file) size" option is what I need. • Is there a better way to get dd-wrt to ignore my ISP's 3rd DNS server?

  My ISP's DHCP server specifies 3 DNS servers that provide ads on mistyped domain names. I'm using a third party DNS provider that only has 2 DNS servers, but unless I put something in the third box dd-wrt fills it with the ISP's 3rd crappy DNS server and mistyped domain names go to their ad page. I've used an unused IP address on the LAN. Is this the best solution?

• cpu fan keeps getting faster after removing battery

  Hi all, I have recently pulled the battery out of the motherboard on an old Acer desktop to reset the bios, but when I put the battery back in after about 3-4 hours, and start it up, the cpu fan just keeps getting faster and faster, like it won't stop at all.   I need a cheap netbook for "router" functions. [OpenBSD/Scientific Linux/whatever will be on it on OS level]. So once I configure it I will put it somewhere down for YEARS. The Question is: What is the lifespan difference of the netbook if it will be [for years]: with opened lid with closed lid I don't think there will be heat problems, because netbooks doesn't produce too much heat. But will ex.: a closed lid [for years] decrease the lifespan of a netbook?

He set it up as not exportable for security reasons: I'm not suposed to be able to put my hands on the certificate. This configuration would allow me to use the certificate with microsoft products, but not to go away with the certificate. Q: It there a way to configure Apache 2 to use this certificate "the windows way"?

• Ubuntu 10.04 live cd keyboard problem.

  Today I downloaded the Ubuntu 10.04 x64 .iso but when trying it out in live cd the keyboard of both my laptop and a microsoft branded one didn't work. I was planning into installing Ubuntu in a partition but I couldn't even put my info in the installation process to do it. Is this a problem with the .iso or the driver? because I'm afraid that if I can actually go ahead with the installation then the keyboard won't work after that too.

  I hear that Windows 8 Pro can use full disk encryption. I also understand that Win8 is targeting the "slate" / "tablet" form factor specifically. But all my previous experience with BitLocker requires you to put in some kind of PIN or password at boot time -- how can I do this without a (hardware) keyboard? This preview of an upcoming Win8 tablet mentions BitLocker but doesn't address the PIN issue. Am I missing something?

Can we use NLB + Mirroring together? So if one of the servers died (ie power plug removed), everything will continue to work (after the timeout for the mirror to become the principal)?

• Hard Drive Physical Disc Swap

  Is it possible, and if so, what would it take to do a hard drive disc swap? If a HD has a damaged PCB board, but the actual disc inside the drive where all the information is stored is not damaged, is it possible to take that disc and put it in another hard drive whose PCB board is not damaged? (as long as both are the same type, SATA to SATA, etc.) Can this be done at home? Any special requirements?
