• Using Beyond Compare for Visual Diff in TortoiseHg

  I am trying to use Beyond Compare for Visual Diff in TortoiseHg. eg Right click on a modified file in explorer and select Visual Diff from TortoiseHg context menu... BeyondCompare opens but only shows the 'welcome' screen and not the file I want to diff. Am I missing something? • Android 2.1 address bar causes change in viewport dimensions

  Hi, I have a page that has a 100% width and height div in it (all surrounding elements are sized accordingly so that it does actually achieve 100% width and height). Below that div I have a second div with a fixed height. In mobile safari and blackberry everything is fine, when the page loads the dimensions are applied correctly (the top div filling the viewport) and the user can scroll down to reveal the second div. Android 2.1 also applies the dimensions correctly, but with an added quirk; when the user scrolls down and removes the address bar from the page, the dimensions of the div are recalculated to fill the viewport, causing the content to jump. Ideally I would like the dimensions of the div to remain static when the page is scrolled, but remain 100% so that it will fill the viewport regardless of device size or orientation. Does anyone know of any way to disable this recalculation? Thanks for any help you can provide.

• Tool for response time analysis on JBoss server?

  I am running a pretty high traffic cluster of JBoss servers serving REST requests and I am interested in tools reading the access logs in Tomcat format (with %D parameter) to provide a detailed analysis of the response time on a per-call basis. Ideally this tool would generate a chart showing the progression of the response time throughout the day, hour per hour, then a weekly view with averages on the day, and monthly with average on the weeks (CACTI style). I've looked for such tools and couldn't find anything. Is any of you guys aware of something close to that before I start writing my own? I haven't looked into CACTI extensions yet, but that be an option?

• Triggering CSV download using Javascript?

  I have an url /reportcsv that generates a plain text csv with Content-type: text/csv and Content-disposition: attachment; filename=report.csv. I want trigger this csv to be downloaded using Javascript. I'm considering two methods: 1) Setting location.href = /reportcsv 2) Setting an iframe url to /reportcsv Both seem to work in Safari. I was wondering if there is any difference between them, or if one is recommended over the other. My main requirement is that I don't want the user to leave the current page.

• Problem with Juggernaut and transparent wmode in Adobe AIR

  Hi, I am trying to use juggernaut in Adobe AIR application, however the big issue with this is that the juggernaut flash file should have wmode parameter set to 'transparent'. This is a bit of a problem for juggernaut because it seems that it doesn't work with that parameter included. The interesting part is that it is working under Linux on all browsers and in air application, but on Windows it's working only with Safari all other browsers including the AIR application are not even connecting to the juggernaut server. So the question is, what is the cause of this and if anyone had similar problem I would be interested to hear about solutions or workarounds. Thanks, Peco

• Firefox HTML5 video playback inconsistancy

  Hey all, I've got an HTML5 video on a page. When tested locally, Chrome, Safari, and Opera work beautifully. Firefox plays it, but doesn't loop as efficiently as the others. The real problem is when it's tested off a server. Firefox doesn't play the video, but recognizes there is one there. I was wondering if all that open ended three-different-ways syntax can be swung in Firefox's favor. Thanks! • WAMP server suddenly stopped running scripts

  I have been working on a website for some months now. Every day, I open up the PHP scripts in the same manner, and every day they work just fine. Today, I go to open one up the same as I always do, except the page just comes up as the text file. All pages are the same, I have not changed most of them for many weeks now. WAMP is giving me no errors. I just installed the latest version, and it still won't work. There is no problem with file extensions, The only problem I can find is in the Apache Error Log: [Fri Oct 25 10:42:40.029691 2013] [mime:warn] [pid 4860:tid 1508] AH01599: Cannot get media type from 'x-httpd-php53' What does this mean?

• VIM Disable Automatic Newline At End Of File

  So I work in a PHP shop, and we all use different editors, and we all have to work on windows. I use vim, and everyone in the shop keeps complaining that whenever I edit a file there is a newline at the bottom. I've searched around and found that this is a documented behavior of vi & vim... but I was wondering if there was some way to disable this feature. (It wouldbe best if I could disable it for specific file extensions). If anyone knows about this, that would be great!

• Appropriate high level language to deal with binary data

  Hi, I need to write a small tool that parses a textual input and generates some binary encoded data. I would prefer to stay away from C and the like, in favour of a higher level, (optionally) safer, more expressive and faster to develop language. My language of choice for this kind of tasks usually is Python, but for this case dealing with binary raw data can be problematic if one isn't very careful with the numbers being promoted to bignums, sign extensions and such. Ideally I would like to have records with named bitfields that are portable to be serialised in a consistent manner. (I know that there's a strong point in doing it in a language I already master, although it isn't optimal, but I think this could be a good opportunity to learn something new). Thanks.

  There's a convoluted backstory involving how I came across this, but why is the self property not exactly equal to the window itself? In Safari and Firefox and friends, the results are as I'd expect: > window == window.self true > window === window.self true The same isn't true in Internet Explorer, though: >> window == window.self true >> window === window.self false Can anybody account for the inconsistency? To exactly what is the self property of the window object pointing? It casts to something with equality, which is even more vexing.

  I've a webpage with one text-box and one button. Click on button will show a popup for searching. On popup page,has 2 buttons, "Search" and "Close". Input the text and click Search, the result will display on a list on this popup, click on a row will close the popup and fill the value to text-box on main-page. On Destop browser, it works fine On Safari on iPad, it will open new tab instead of a popup but work fine. UIWebview in my app, on main-page, click the button, I will go to Search page, but when click Search button and close button, nothing happened, I know because 2 buttons will close the popup or the tab, but I don't know how to handle on my Webview, and also I can fill data to main-page or not? • How can you implement a jQuery feature without having IE prompt users with an Active X warning?

  Essentially, I want to implement a jQuery feature on a site that I'm building, but I don't want Internet Explorer users to have to click "Allow Blocked Content". The feature works fine with Safari, Chrome, and Firefox. It's only IE that prompts the users with the Active X warning. I'm using the following jQuery cycle plugin: http://malsup.com/jquery/cycle/ I thought that I might simply have to live with the fact that users have to click on the Active X message when they use the site, but Zendesk (www.zendesk.com) is using the same implementation and that site doesn't prompt me with the warning. Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong would be appreciated.

  Hi guys, i'm studying the fastcgi developement kit because i'm writing a new scripting language and i'd like to write a fastcgi version of the interpreter to run scripts as webpages. I'm using this example from the sdk, located at /srv/http/bin/echocpp So, in my httpd.conf file, i have the following lines : FastCgiServer /srv/http/bin/echocpp -idle-timeout 120 -processes 4 ScriptAlias / /srv/http/bin/echocpp/ ... ... AddHandler fastcgi-script hy Where 'hy' is the extensions of my scripts. Then, when i try browse, for instance http://localhost/~evilsocket/prime.hy I see all the environment variables as expected from the echo-cpp.cpp programm, except for the SCRIPT_NAME that is empty. Is there something i'm missing out of this? How am i supposed to obtain the full path of the script to run it inside my fastcgi version of the interpreter? Thanks

• Using 'Copy as cURL' from Chrome in windows command line

  So, Google Chrome as this great 'copy as cURL' option under 'Network' of the Chrome DevTools. Works great in command lines for linux but not in windows. Apparently it has something to do with the single quotes as the error I get is protocol 'http not supported In other words its reading that single quote. Is there a simple way to make this formatable for windows? I tried replacing all the single quotes with double quotes but then nothing happens at all.   This is a question to all web-developers working in the industry more than a few years. Today the server guy at my work told me that his browser didnt render a google font I used on a site properly, so I checked his browser - it was firefox 3.5. (google font Raleway).. This made me think.. I know for some of our sites its a requirement to support IE6 (larger corperate sites) but for the rest (personal sites) should I be looking at developing for all incrments of firefox, chrome, IE and safari???? Does your company still support IE6? Does your company support previous versions of modern browsers or just the latest ones? and finally, has anyone else had this problem with FF 3.5 and Google Hosted font Raleway..(the font displays extra extra thing so the font is almost unreadable) If anyones interested I found a working solution to my font problem here: http://www.jshsolutions.net/google-webfonts-cross-browser-fix-howto/ Sam

However, if you want to do anything useful you have to know what service provider(s) you need to implement your super awesoem extension. Unfortunately, this information is often spread out all over the place, not well documented or both. What I'd really love to see is a comprehensive list of all service providers that you can import into your VS extension, and what those providers... um, provide. Has anybody seen something like that?

  Hey everyone. I am having some issues on my end and hopefully it's just something on my end but, could someone take a look at THIS PAGE in IE and let me know if you can see what is wrong. Please check it out first in FF or Chrome or Safari because it all works fine in those browsers. The two scripts I am using are a custom-ish dropdown menu and another using jcarousel lite. • Why won't this HTML work?

  I have a span text block inside a paragraph. Inside this span block I have two paragraph breaks. On webkit, the browser renders the first paragraph correctly but fails back to browser default settings on the last two.   I want to detect an extended mousedown. The following code works in Firefox and Safari... var mousedownTimeout; $('#testButton').mousedown(function(){ mousedownTimeout = window.setTimeout(function(){ alert("Hey, let go."); }, 2000); }); $('#testButton').mouseup(function(){ window.clearTimeout(mousedownTimeout); }); ... but not on the iPhone because (quoting quirksmore.org)... The iPhone fires the mousedown, mouseup and click events in the correct order on a click (tap), but it either fires all three or none at all. Is there a way around this?
