• Strategy in exporting to Excel with formatting from ASP.NET?

  So this is another exporting to Excel question. I have a page that has a table with formatting by stylesheet. When I export the page by setting the ContentType to application/excel and Content-Disposition to attachment, I can export the table to Excel (not CSV). However, it loses all formatting. I think it's because Excel does not load CSS and I guess that's reasonable. So, in a scenario where I have to show the table on the web and also export to Excel, both with similar (even if not exact) formatting, what would be the best approach without using something like NPOI? I am trying to minimize the work and keep the single template if possible. Is it necessary for me to create two separate templates: one with stylesheet, the other with embedded style in the table itself for Excel? Having a single template with conditional formatting inside would be very messy. Any ideas?

• Selecting an entire photo album with UIImagePickerController

  Hello all, I was wondering if there's a way to select an entire photo album with UIImagePickerController. What I have now is a UIImagePickerController with sourceType of PhotoLibrary. It shows the Albums, and navigates inside an album to select a single image... What I want to do is when the user selects the Album, instead of going inside the album, I want to load all the images to an array so I could do a timed slideshow of them. The delegate (DidFinishPickingImage) lets me run code only after the user has already gone into the album and selected a single image. Is there a way to do it? I couldn't find any information on this. Thanks!

I am glad that Microsoft published a white paper about a case-study using one of these scenarios: An Analysis Services Case Study: Using Tabular Models in a Large-scale Commercial Solution. Alberto Ferrari is the author of the white paper and many people contributed to it. The final result is a very technical document based on a case study, which provides a level of detail that I don’t see often in other case studies (which are usually more marketing-oriented). • Leadership does not see value in standard process for machine configuration and new developer orientation

  About 3 months ago our lead web developer and designer(same person) left the company, greener pastures was the reason for leaving. Good for them I say. My problem is that his department was completely undocumented. Things have been tough since the lead left, there is a lot of knowledge both theoretical knowledge we use to quote new projects and technical/implementation knowledge of our existing products that we have lost as a result of his departure. My normal role is as a product manager (for our products themselves) and as a business analyst for some of our project based consulting work. I've taught myself to code over the past year and in an effort to continue moving forward I've taken on the task of setting my laptop up as a development machine with hopes of implementing some of the easier feature requests and fixing some of the no brainer bugs that get submitted into our ticketing system. But, no one knows how to take a fresh Windows machine and configure it to work seamlessly with our production apps. I have requested my boss, who is still in contact with the developer who left, ask them to document and create a process to onboard a new developer, software installation, required packages, process to deploy to the productions application servers, etc. None of this exists, and I'm spinning my wheels trying to get my computer working as a functional development machine. But she does not seem to understand the need for such a process to exist. Apparently the new developer who replaced the one who left has been using a machine that was pre-configured for our environment, so even the new developer could not set up a new machine if we added another developer. My question is two part: Am I wrong in assuming a process to on-board and configure a new computer to be part of our development eco-system should exist? Am I being a whinny baby and should I figure the process out and create a document on my own?

• Sync a WinForm with DatagridView

  I have a Form with a DataGridView which DataSource is a BindingSource to a table. This view will have a single row selection and a button to delete, edit the current selected row in a popup Form and a insert button that will use the same Form as well. My question is how can I sync the pop Form with the current row? I tryied to use the RowStateChanged event to get and store the current selected Row to be used in the Form but I coudnt. After the event I get the row that was selected before. Other thing I dont understand yet in C# how to have a single recordSet and know wich is the current record even if its a new being inserted in a way that once in the Form all data being entered will show up at the same time in the DataGridView.

I now got the following code which read all numbers except single numbers (1, 2, 3...) • setIncludesSubentities: in an NSFetchRequest is broken for entities across multiple persistent store

  Prior art which doesn't quite address this: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1774359/core-data-migration-error-message-model-does-not-contain-configuration-xyz I have narrowed this down to a specific issue. It takes a minute to set up, though; please bear with me. The gist of the issue is that a persistentStoreCoordinator (apparently) cannot preserve the part of an object graph where a managedObject is marked as a subentity of another when they are stored in different files. Here goes... 1) I have 2 xcdatamodel files, each containing a single entity. In runtime, when the managed object model is constructed, I manually define one entity as subentity of another using setSubentities:. This is because defining subentities across multiple files in the editor is not supported yet. I then return the complete model with modelByMergingModels. //Works! [mainEntity setSubentities:canvasEntities]; NSLog(@"confirm %@ is super for %@", [[[canvasEntities lastObject] superentity] name], [[canvasEntities lastObject] name]); //Output: "confirm Note is super for Browser" 2) I have modified the persistentStoreCoordinator method so that it sets a different store for each entity. When inserting objects of either entity, they both are added to the context and they both are fetched by the fetchedResultsController and displayed in the tableView as expected. // Create the fetch request for the entity. [fetchRequest setAffectedStores:[[managedObjectContext persistentStoreCoordinator] persistentStores]]; [fetchRequest setReturnsObjectsAsFaults:NO]; Here is where it starts misbehaving: after closing and relaunching the app, ONLY THE PARENT ENTITY is fetched. If I change the entity of the request using setEntity: to the entity for 'Note', all notes are fetched. If I change it to the entity for 'Browser', all the browsers are fetched. Let me reiterate that during the run in which an object is first inserted into the context, it will appear in the list. It is only after save and relaunch that a fetch request fails to traverse the hierarchy. Therefore, I can only conclude that it is the storage of the inheritance that is the problem. Let's recap why: - Both entities can be created, inserted into the context, and viewed, so the model is working - Both entities can be fetched with a single request, so the inheritance is working - I can confirm that the files are being stored separately and objects are going into their appropriate stores, so saving is working - Launching the app with either entity set for the request works, so retrieval from the store is working - This also means that traversing different stores with the request is working - By using a single store instead of multiple, the problem goes away completely, so creating, storing, fetching, viewing etc is working correctly. This leaves only one culprit (to my mind): the inheritance I'm setting with setSubentities: is effective only for objects creating during the session. Either objects/entities are being stored stripped of the inheritance info, or entity inheritance as defined programmatically only applies to new instances, or both. Either of these is unacceptable. Either it's a bug or I am way, way off course. I have been at this every which way for two days; any insight is greatly appreciated. The current workaround - just using a single store - works completely, except it won't be future-proof in the event that I remove one of the models from the app etc. It also boggles the mind because I can't see why you would have all this infrastructure for storing across multiple stores and for setting affected stores in fetch requests if it by core definition (of setSubentities:) doesn't work.

  Quite some time ago I remember reading an article from 'Joel on Software' that mentioned collocation of information in code was important. By collocation, I mean that relevant information about the code is present when the code is. I'm currently writing an article that has a small bit in it about collocation so I went searching for sources and found the quote in the article 'Making Wrong Code Look Wrong' In order to make code really, really robust, when you code-review it, you need to have coding conventions that allow collocation. In other words, the more information about what code is doing is located right in front of your eyes, the better a job you’ll do at finding the mistakes. When you have code that says For me, collocation isn't just about the code itself, but the tool used to view the code. If it can help with the 'collocation factor' (term coined by me?) I believe it can help with the programmers productivity. Take for example the modern IDEs that show you the variables type by hovering over it. Are their any other articles written about collocation in code and/or are their other terms that this is known by?

• Why is Magento 1.4 including javascript files by filesystem path?

  I am in the process of testing a Magento 1.3 site using Magento 1.4. I am seeing very weird and inconsistent behavior. Instead of including the URL of my javascript files, Magento is creating tags with the full filesystem path of the js files, as so: <script type="text/javascript" src="/home/my_username/public_html/js/prototype/prototype.js"></script> I believe this is related to the new "Themes JavaScript and CSS files combined to one file" function. In fact, when I log into the admin and click "Flush JavaScript/CSS Cache", then the first page load is successful, and I see a single JS include similar to: <script type="text/javascript" src="/media/js/5b8cfac152fcb2a5f93ef9571d338c54.js"></script> But subsequent age loads load every single JS file, with the full path names. Which obviously isn't going to work. Anyone have any ideas on what could be wrong or how to fix this issue?

• Asp.Net MVC style routing in Django

  I've been programming in Asp.Net MVC for quite some time now and to expand a little bit beyond the .Net world I've recently began learning Python and Django. I am enjoying Django but one thing I am missing from Asp.Net MVC is the automatic routing from my urls to my controller actions. In Asp.Net MVC I can build much of my application using this single default route: routes.MapRoute( "Default", // Route name "{controller}/{action}/{id}", // URL with parameters new { controller = "Home", action = "Index", id = "" } // Parameter defaults ); In Django I've found myself adding an entry to urls.py for each view that I want to expose which leads to a lot more url patterns than I've become used to in Asp.Net MVC. Is there a way to create a single url pattern in Django that will handle "[Application]/view/[params]" in a way similar to Asp.Net MVC? Perhaps at the main web site level?

  I was working with a certain XML where there were no redundancies <person> <eye> <eye_info> <eye_color> blue </eye_color> </eye_info> </eye> <hair> <hair_info> <hair_color> blue </hair_color> </hair_info> </hair> </person> As you can see, the sub-tag eye-color makes reference to eye in it's name, so there was no need to avoid redundancies, I could get the eye color in a single line after loading the XML into a dataset: dataset.ReadXml(path); value = dataset.Tables("eye_info").Rows(0)("eye_color"); I do realise it's not the smartest way of doing so, and this situation I'm having now wasn't unforeseen. Now, let's say I have to read xml's that are in this format: <person> <eye> <info> <color> blue </color> </info> </eye> <hair> <info> <color> blue </color> </info> </hair> </person> So If I try to call it like this: dataset.ReadXml(path); value = dataset.Tables("info").Rows(0)("color"); There will be a redundancy, because I could only go as far as one up level to identify a single field in a XML with my previous method, and the 'disambiguator' is three levels above. Is there a practical way to reach with no mistake a single field given all the above (or at least a few) fields ?

  I came across this post from Beimond on how to do identity propagation using OWSM.As I have mentioned in the past here, here and here - Beimond has a number of excellent posts on OWSM. However I found one part of his comment puzzling. I quote: "OWSM allows you to pass on the identity of the authenticated user to your OWSM protected web service ( thanks to OPSS ), this username can then be used by your service. This will work on one or between different WebLogic domains. Off course when you don't want to use OWSM you can always use Oracle Access Manager OAM which can do the same." The sentence in red highlights the issue i find puzzling. In fact I just discussed this particular topic recently here. So let me try and clarify on a few points: a) OAM is used for Web SSO. b) OWSM is used for securing Web Services. You cannot do identity propagation using OAM for Web Services. c) You use SAML to do identity propagation across Web Services. OAM also supports SAML - but that is the browser profile of SAML relevant in the context of Web SSO and is not related to the SAML Token Profile defined as part of the WS-Security spec.

  Okay, I have been looking into MVVM pattern, and each time I have previously tried looking into it, I gave up for a number of reasons: Unnecessary Extra Long Winded Coding No apparent advantages for coders (no designers in my office. Currently only myself soon to be another coder) Not a lot of resources/documentation of good practices! (Or at least hard to find) Cannot think of a single scenario where this is advantageous. I'm about to give up on it yet again, and thought I'd ask to see if someone answer the reasons above. I honestly can't see an advantage of using this for a single/partner coding.   Most Pascal control structures make sense to me, like: for ... do {statement}; if (condition) then {statement}; while (condition) do {statement}; where the {statement} is either a single statement, or a begin ... end block. I have a problem with: repeat {statement-list} until (expression); try {statement-list} except {statement-list} end; Wouldn't it be better that repeat and try have the same general structure, accepting only a single statement or a begin ... end block, instead of having a statement-list that's not formally blocked with a begin and an end?

In my application I have one huge GtkComboBox created with one long for loop which eats up so much of time and I am using this combo at two places in one single screen. So, what I want to do is create this combo for one time and duplicate/copy it in another one so it will save my time. If I try to add same combo box pointer two times, gtk gives me error "child-paren != NULL" cause in gtk widget can have only single parent. So what to do? Thanks, PP.

  I'm looking for some software to monitor a single server for performance alerts. Preferably free and with a reasonable default configuration. Edit: To clarify, I would like to run this software on a Windows machine and monitor a remote Windows server for CPU/memory/etc. usage alerts (not a single application). Edit: I suppose its not necessary that this software be run remotely, I would also settle for something that ran on the server and emailed me if there was an alert. It seems like Windows performance logs and alerts might be used for this purpose somehow but it was not immediately obvious to me. • Javascript - Concatenate Multiple NodeLists Together

  I was originally asking for an elegant way to simulate the Array.concat() functionality in IE or older browsers, because it seemed that concat was not supported. Only, of course it is and the reason the object didn't support it is because it wasn't an array. Oops! getElementsByTagName returns a NodeList, not an array. The real question, then, is: what's a good way to get a single list of all the form elements in a document (input, select, textarea, button) to loop through them? An array isn't required... a single NodeList would be perfect, too. Note that I'm using IE6 as this is for a corporate intranet (soon IE8 though).

My question first question is: do you know any jquery plug-in that is able to do this? My second question: is this possible using a single table.   WARNING Retrying Bulk Insert for file:sqlldr due to Communication Error:256 I am running my engine on Linux and am receiving an intermittent message "WARNING Retrying bulk insert for file: sqlldr due to communication Error: 256" The engine seems to have completed successfully, but it is not clear if this error caused some of the forecast to not complete. It is also not clear what caused the error. Generally if you see only the WARNING of it, it means that next retries of the same load request have eventually succeeded and so the run a a whole is not affected. In order to know more about what happens, look for .log/.bad files left in the engines bin directory or possibly a quote of them within the specific engine log that had the issue.  The sqlnet.log file may also have some information about it and perhaps at the database server side there may be some log/alert regarding what happened.  Look at the alert.log. In general it could be that the database server/network was over loaded at the time and somehow the connection was rejected/failed/aborted either due to specific setting on concurrent connections/sessions or inadvertently due to glitch in network/os/hardware. If this repeats and becomes more frequent during the run you should look further into it as mentioned above. You can also track this using either SQL*Trace or java.util.logging.  - Globally enable logging by setting the oracle.jdbc.Trace system property java -Doracle.jdbc.Trace=true - Client Side Tracing: Your SQLNET.ORA file should contain the following lines to produce a client side trace file: trace_level_client = 10 trace_unique_client = on trace_file_client = sqlnet.trc trace_directory_client = <path_to_trace_dir> Server Side Tracing: To enable server side tracing, use the following parameters: trace_level_server = 10 trace_file_server = server.trc trace_directory_server = <path_to_trace_dir> Tracing Levels: The following values can be used for TRACE_LEVEL* parameters:     16 or SUPPORT — WorldWide Customer Support trace information     10 or ADMIN — Administration trace information     4 or USER — User trace information     0 or OFF — no tracing, the default Additional information is readily available via the web.
