• Using a AWS EC2 Server to host a busy website and I need to set up a loadbalancing

  My company has one EC2 server running on AWS with a MYSQL-DB and Apache on the same instance. This one instance hosts a website built on PHP Zend Framework. The site runs like crap when it starts to get busy with a lot of traffic so I'm looking for some advice on how to set up something that can handle the load better. My first question is should I move the mysql DB on to a separate EC2 instance or perhaps use AWS's RDS service which looks like a nice option. I'm sort of new to some of this but I'm guessing I'll need at least two EC2 instances for serving the website from and some sort of load balancing mechanism to distribute traffic. But maybe not, I'm not sure. Also what are some best practices for how to replicate the data so that they stay in sync on both instances? Okay I know these are a lot of questions. But I don't know where to start so any advice will help.

• What are the risks in putting website files in the "root" folder of a shared web hosting server?

  A site I've been asked to manage is hosted (shared) on GoDaddy, with this folder structure: / public_html public_ftp mail stats logs etc... However, the website files are stored in the / folder, and NOT in public_html. I'm not sure if this is how GoDaddy sets up their customers' accounts, or if the old web developer accidentally changed it from public_html to root. But when we call up GoDaddy to tell them to correct this (move files to public_html), they won't change it and insist that there is no security risk unless someone gets a hold of the FTP password. Is this true? (I have always read that website files should be inside public_html.) If not, where could this setting be changed? The .htaccess is empty.

  I'm trying to offer services over the MobiTex network (also see wiki) and want to reduce double-work. I'm trying to understand if it is a good idea to WAP enable my website. Given that WAP usage is increasing (since MMS is a hybrid of SMS + WAP), and the FCC has required every operator in the 700Mhz range to implement it I'd like to fully understand if there are benefits to the technology for certain critical applications. For example, if GPRS allows SMS traffic, voice, and Data, presumably they are handled by different Gateways. If there is another gateway for WAP traffic I would think that it would act as a backup if the data gateway was overloaded. Are there resiliency benefits to using WAP on a critical website? i.e. Content delivery (push or pull)

  Virtual Dedicated Server hosts 10 websites. 1 firewall made with iptables If one of those 10 websites gets hit by too many ping requests coming from one IP address, how do I limit or drop it without dropping it for the other 9 websites? Do I create a firewall for every website ? If so, how? Or is it better to change my rules? If so, how? Thank you.   There is a specific website that loads up without problem on all machines on my network (both wired and wireless) except one laptop. This laptop is a Windows 7 machine that was just recovered using the recovery partition, so it is fresh. The site will not load in Firefox 3.6 or IE 8. The website is http://www.weightwacthers.com The site loads fine on my desktop, iPhone, and Droid, but not the laptop. In all my years in this business I've honestly never seen this happen. Also, 'Is it down for me or everyone' reports that it is indeed only me. What would cause this to happen?

As i made full website in java(JSP + Servlet + mysql + Node.js), its been expensive to host. So i thought that why not to host on own server so that i will be fully dependent on my resources, not on any one else. And i know, in future i need to pay more and more to the other hosting company(because of uploading images and number of incoming users). So my question is, On initial stage what kind of hardware i will required. What can be the cost of that hardware? I already have 12MBPS broadband connection, will it be sufficient? For example, if my website is getting 1000 users visiting my website from Canada and only 100 users visiting my website from the USA, does that mean my website will be ranked higher on Google.ca and lower on Google.com? And, if a website is using Google Analytics will it be ranked higher for the organic search engine keywords?

  I m a graphic designer and have created a website in Joomla that uses a "lightbox" (ignite gallery) plugin to view images from the site. I have created a facebook 'website' app that allows for comments to be posted via facebook in the lightbox (also a like button) - all of which are really just options that you allow in the ignite gallery options. Everything seems to work fine, I can comment and it will appear under the photo in the lightbox, as I asked it too, it also sends a copy of the comment to the commenter's facebook page with links. How do I also get the comments from the website (lightbox plugin) to also appear on the clients "fan page" that already exists?? Much appreciate any help..
