  I have a /root/.my.cnf file which stores the mysql root user's password: [client] password = "my password" When I log in as system root and enter mysql, I get a passwordless login: myuser@local:$ sudo su root@local:$ mysql mysql> But when I try to do the same just using sudo, I get access denied: myuser@local:$ sudo mysql ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO) How can I get sudo mysql to log me in as the mysql root user, without entering a password?

• How should I configure my Active Directory servers so that if one goes down, users are not kicked off SQL?

  Today, we shut down one of our Active Directory servers during office hours to check the loading on a UPS. Since all the server did was provide Active Directory in a separate building incase the main building caught fire, or whatever, we didn't think it would have any effect on our users. Seconds after the server was shut down, we had a dozen phone calls from users experiencing this issue:- [Microsoft SQL Server Login] SQLState: '28000' [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Login failed. The login is from an untrusted domain and cannot be used with authentication. Once we realized what had happened, we quickly rebooted the down Active Directory server. Problem solved. But why did this happen. And what if one day a server has a breakdown and is offline for hours, or days? Shouldn't the other Active Directory servers in the domain service authentication requests without disruption to users? We have 3 Windows Server 2003 Standard servers running Active Directory as Domain Controllers with Global Catalogs, all physically located on the same network at Gigabit speeds. I believe the domain was originally Windows Server 2000, or maybe even NT 4.0. Could the issue be to down to old Group Policies inherited from these old server OS's, or some default setting in Active Directory that needs changing?

• ldap login form works, but need to add active-directory group access

  I created a form that asks you to log in, then verifies the user/pass against the ldap server/active-directory, if successful, it creates a session, which will be checked on every page. Now I want to check the session, which is the username of the person who is logged in, and do a search for them using ldap_search, so I can check what group they belong to and pass that group thru a function to verify that they can view that page. Each page will accessible to a certain group or groups of users, which those groups are defined within Active Directory. I am unsure on how I can do that using ldap_search, or maybe that is just one piece of the puzzle I am trying to solve. Any help is appreciated - thank you!   I have a very strange problem with our Sharepoint 2007 implementation. I went in today to grant access to a user and was greeted with "The user does not exist or is not unique." Let me start off by saying that this user is not on our domain we have a 2 way trust connecting to one of our subsidiaries. I can see the users in the people pick but can't add them into Sharepoint. This problem flared up after we had some trust issues last two days ago. So I must ask has anyone came across this error and if so what steps did you take to resolve it? • SBS 2008 - Add user not seeing AD users (reconnecting or creating new mailbox)

  Using SBS 2008 - completely updated. I was originally trying to create a spam mailbox for quarantine purposes, and when I bring up the "select an existing user" it does not display any of the domain users (other than QB database user accounts installed on their server). I have tried changing the scope and still nothing. Searching reveals nothing either. Then later I noticed that we had (1) disconnected mailbox, and I tried to reconnect it to the AD user - and I got the same results. Help would be much appreciated.

Let me start off by saying that this user is not on our domain we have a 2 way trust connecting to one of our subsidiaries. I can see the users in the people pick but can't add them into Sharepoint. • Add Bookmark to IE automatically for new users on a computer

  When I set up a PC, I would like to be able to have it so when anyone logs into that PC from the domain a couple of IT bookmarks will be in IE. I read I can do this with a Domain-Level group policy, but unfortunately, with my current domain group policies have not gone well, so I have fear (Rather not get into this in this question). Can I do this at the PC level when I deploy a new computer? So any domain users who log into the PC will have these bookmarks added when their profile is created (no roaming profiles). These are XP machines, and the domain is run by 2003 controllers.

• Handling deleted users - separate or same table?

  The scenario is that I've got an expanding set of users, and as time goes by, users will cancel their accounts which we currently mark as 'deleted' (with a flag) in the same table. If users with the same email address (that's how users log in) wish to create a new account, they can signup again, but a NEW account is created. (We have unique ids for every account, so email addresses can be duplicated amongst live and deleted ones). What I've noticed is that all across our system, in the normal course of things we constantly query the users table checking the user is not deleted, whereas what I'm thinking is that we dont need to do that at all...! [Clarification1: by 'constantly querying', I meant that we have queries which are like: '... FROM users WHERE isdeleted="0" AND ...'. For example, we may need to fetch all users registered for all meetings on a particular date, so in THAT query, we also have FROM users WHERE isdeleted="0" - does this make my point clearer?] (1) continue keeping deleted users in the 'main' users table (2) keep deleted users in a separate table (mostly required for historical book-keeping) What are the pros and cons of either approach?

  I am developing a simple ASP.NET website that will run on the intranet on a WS2008(IIS7) box and respond to users running XP/IE8. Everything is domain connected and I am trying to automatically login the users much like SharePoint does. On my dev machine (XP), when running the site through VS, everything works. I can pickup on the user perfectly. I am using the following settings: <authentication mode="Windows"/> <identity impersonate="true"/> <anonymousIdentification enabled="false"/> <authorization> <allow users="*"/> <deny users="?"/> </authorization> However, when I publish to the WS2008 box, it doesn't work. Clearly I am missing a setting in IIS7 to support this. I have the following set for Authentication on the site: Anon Auth - Enabled ASP.NET Impersonation - Enabled Basic Auth - Disabled Forms Auth - Disabled Windows Auth - Disabled What am I missing? • Why does switching users completely hang my system every time?

  I have a fresh install of 11.04 64bit, with 2 administrator accounts and 4 normal accounts. The 4 normal accounts (the kids' accounts) don't have passwords, they can login simply by clicking on their names. When any of the users -- either admin or normal -- tries to switch to another account by clicking in the top-right corner of the screen and selecting another user, the screen goes black and the entire system locks up. Even CTRL+ALT+F1 through F7 does nothing. This is reproducible 100% of the time on this system. I can ssh into the box when the console locks up, and by running top, I see that Xorg is consuming about 100% of the CPU. • Automatically switch to workspace with active application

  Hi, I currently have 4 workspaces. If I have a pidgin chat window open on one workspace that is currently not active and I get a message in that already open chat window, I want do be able to click on the green envelope symbol in the upper menu-bar and be switched to the workspace the window is situated. Currently if I click on the green envelope symbol there will be appear a button on the lower menu-bar on which I have to click to be switched to the other workspace. Same with opening links. If in some application I click on a link the last activated Firefox window will open the link. Even this last active firebox window is on a currently not active workspace, and there is a Firefox window on the currently active workspace. So either open the link in the Firefox on the currently active workspace, or switch to the workspace on which the link was opened. Is/are there any solution(s) to this problem?

• Can I link proxy users from a single LDS instance to multiple domains?

  I have an Active Directory Lightweight Directory Services set up. I have objects that represent users in the Active Directory (Domain_A). I have set their objectSID attribute, and users can authenticate to LDS with their Active Directory password. I love it. I want to bring in new users, from a different Active Directory (Domain_B) that has not trust relationship whatsoever with the Active Directory from Domain_A. Is there a way to tell LDS in which domain to look for users or does it always look in the domain it is in, maybe by using another protocol than Kerberos ? +I figured out user provisionning, no need to mention it. • Fast user switching is logging users off instead of switching users

  I have a netbook running Windows 8.1 Pro that will no longer allow more than one user to be logged in at the same time. The steps necessary to reproduce this are as follows: The current user presses WIN to bring up the start screen. The user clicks his name in the corner and a list of other users appears. As soon as one of the other names is clicked, the user is unceremoniously logged off without any prompts. This behavior seems to have started some time after upgrading to Windows 8.1 from Windows 8. Before that point, everything worked fine and more than one user could be logged in at the same time. I've tried searching for others experiencing similar problems but this appears to be unique. System Details: CPU: Intel Atom N455 @ 1.66 GHz RAM: 1 GB OS: Windows 8.1 Pro w/ Media Center 32-bit

  I need to find a solution for a website which is struggling under load. The site gets ~500 simultaneous connections during peak time, and counts around 42k hits per day. It's a wordpress based site bridged with a vbulletin forum with a lot of contents and a fairly complex structure which makes intensive use of the database. I already implemented code level full page caching (without this the server just crashes), and configured all other caching directives as well as combining css files and the like to limit http requests as much as possible. I need to understand if there is more that can be done via software or if the load is just too much for the server to handle and it needs to be upgraded, because the server goes down occasionally during peak times. Can't access the server now, but it's a dedicated CentOS machine (I think 4GB ram, can't say what CPU) running apache/mysql. So back to the main question: how can I know when the users are just too many?

Change Notification Control 2. DirSync Control Both of these method give us the attribute that are changed and we can compare new values with some dump in SQL Server to get old values.
